1. நீ உன் சத்துருக்களுக்கு எதிராக யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டுப்போகையில், குதிரைகளையும், இரதங்களையும், உன்னிலும் பெரிய கூட்டமாகிய ஜனங்களையும் கண்டால், அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படாயாக; உன்னை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார்.

1. When you go out to war against other nations, and come face to face with horses and war-carriages and armies greater in number than yourselves, have no fear of them: for the Lord your God is with you, who took you up out of the land of Egypt.

2. நீங்கள் யுத்தஞ்செய்யத் தொடங்கும்போது, ஆசாரியன் சேர்ந்து வந்து, ஜனங்களிடத்தில் பேசி:

2. And when you are on the point of attacking, let the priest come forward and say to the people,

3. இஸ்ரவேலரே, கேளுங்கள்; இன்று உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுடன் யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் போகிறீர்கள்; உங்கள் இருதயம் துவளவேண்டாம்; நீங்கள் அவர்களைப் பார்த்துப் பயப்படவும் கலங்கவும் தத்தளிக்கவும் வேண்டாம்.

3. Give ear, O Israel: today you are going forward to the fight; let your heart be strong; do not let uncontrolled fear overcome you because of those who are against you;

4. உங்களுக்காக உங்கள் சத்துருக்களோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணவும் உங்களை இரட்சிக்கவும் உங்களோடேகூடப் போகிறவர் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

4. For the Lord your God goes with you, fighting for you to give you salvation from those who are against you.

5. அன்றியும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: புதுவீட்டைக் கட்டி, அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டை பண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டைப்பண்ணவேண்டியதாகும்.

5. And let the overseers say to the people, If there is any man who has made for himself a new house and has not gone into it, let him go back to his house, so that in the event of his death in the fight, another may not take his house for himself.

6. திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தை நாட்டி, அதை அனுபவியாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதை அநுபவிக்கவேண்டியதாகும்.

6. Or if any man has made a vine-garden without taking the first-fruits of it, let him go back to his house, so that in the event of his death in the fight, another may not be the first to make use of the fruit.

7. ஒரு பெண்ணைத் தனக்கு நியமித்துக்கொண்டு, அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணவேண்டியதாகும் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

7. Or if any man is newly married and has had no sex relations with his wife, let him go back to his house, so that in the event of his death in the fight, another man may not take her.

8. பின்னும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களுடனே பேசி: பயங்காளியும் திடனற்றவனுமாயிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் சகோதரரின் இருதயத்தைத் தன் இருதயத்தைப்போலக் கரைந்துபோகப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கு, தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகக்கடவன் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

8. And let the overseers go on to say to the people, If there is any man whose heart is feeble with fear, let him go back to his house before he makes the hearts of his countrymen feeble.

9. அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களோடே பேசி முடிந்தபின்பு, ஜனங்களை நடத்தும்படி சேனைத்தலைவரை நியமிக்கக்கடவர்கள்.

9. Then, after saying these words to the people, let the overseers put captains over the army.

10. நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண நெருங்கும்போது, அந்தப் பட்டணத்தாருக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறக்கடவாய்.

10. When you come to a town, before attacking it, make an offer of peace.

11. அவர்கள் உனக்குச் சமாதானமான உத்தரவு கொடுத்து, வாசலைத் திறந்தால், அதிலுள்ள ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் உனக்குப் பகுதிகட்டுகிறவர்களாகி, உனக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்யக்கடவர்கள்.

11. And if it gives you back an answer of peace, opening its doors to you, then all the people in it may be put to forced work as your servants.

12. அவர்கள் உன்னோடே சமாதானப்படாமல், உன்னோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுவார்களானால், நீ அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு,

12. If however it will not make peace with you, but war, then let it be shut in on all sides:

13. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் அதை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிலுள்ள புருஷர்கள் எல்லாரையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி,

13. And when the Lord your God has given it into your hands, let every male in it be put to death without mercy.

14. ஸ்திரீகளையும் குழந்தைகளையும் மிருகஜீவன்களையும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடே வைத்து, பட்டணத்திலுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் கொள்ளையிட்டு, உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த உன் சத்துருக்களின் கொள்ளைப்பொருளை அநுபவிப்பாயாக.

14. But the women and the children and the cattle and everything in the town and all its wealth, you may take for yourselves: the wealth of your haters, which the Lord your God has given you, will be your food.

15. இந்த ஜாதிகளைச்சேர்ந்த பட்டணங்களாயிராமல், உனக்கு வெகுதூரத்திலிருக்கிற சகல பட்டணங்களுக்கும் இப்படியே செய்வாயாக.

15. So you are to do to all the towns far away, which are not the towns of these nations.

16. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கிற ஏத்தியர், எமோரியர், கானானியர், பெரிசியர், ஏவியர், எபூசியர் என்னும் ஜனங்களின் பட்டணங்களிலேமாத்திரம் சுவாசமுள்ளதொன்றையும் உயிரோடே வைக்காமல்,

16. But in the towns of these peoples whose land the Lord your God is giving you for your heritage, let no living thing be kept from death:

17. அவர்களை உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே சங்காரம்பண்ணக்கடவாய்.

17. Give them up to the curse; the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, as the Lord your God has given you orders:

18. அவர்கள் தங்கள் தேவர்களுக்குச் செய்கிற தங்களுடைய சகல அருவருப்புகளின்படியே நீங்களும் செய்ய உங்களுக்குக் கற்றுக்கொடாமலும், நீங்கள் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்யாமலும் இருக்கும்படி இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும்.

18. So that you may not take them as your example and do all the disgusting things which they do in the worship of their gods, so sinning against the Lord your God.

19. நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி அதைப் பிடிக்க அநேகநாள் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டிருக்கும்போது, நீ கோடரியை ஓங்கி, அதின் மரங்களை வெட்டிச் சேதம்பண்ணாயாக; அவைகளின் கனியை நீ புசிக்கலாமே; ஆகையால் உனக்குக் கொத்தளத்திற்கு உதவும் என்று அவைகளை வெட்டாயாக; வெளியின் விருட்சங்கள் மனுஷனுடைய ஜீவனத்துக்கானவைகள்.

19. If in war a town is shut in by your armies for a long time, do not let its trees be cut down and made waste; for their fruit will be your food; are the trees of the countryside men for you to take up arms against them?

20. புசிக்கிறதற்கேற்ற கனிகொடாத மரம் என்று நீ அறிந்திருக்கிற மரங்களை மாத்திரம் வெட்டியழித்து, உன்னோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிற பட்டணம் பிடிபடுமட்டும் அதற்கு எதிராகக் கொத்தளம் போடலாம்.

20. Only those trees which you are certain are not used for food may be cut down and put to destruction: and you are to make walls of attack against the town till it is taken.
