1. நீ உன் சத்துருக்களுக்கு எதிராக யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டுப்போகையில், குதிரைகளையும், இரதங்களையும், உன்னிலும் பெரிய கூட்டமாகிய ஜனங்களையும் கண்டால், அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படாயாக; உன்னை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார்.

1. When you go to war against your enemy and see horses and chariots and soldiers far outnumbering you, do not recoil in fear of them; GOD, your God, who brought you up out of Egypt is with you.

2. நீங்கள் யுத்தஞ்செய்யத் தொடங்கும்போது, ஆசாரியன் சேர்ந்து வந்து, ஜனங்களிடத்தில் பேசி:

2. When the battle is about to begin, let the priest come forward and speak to the troops.

3. இஸ்ரவேலரே, கேளுங்கள்; இன்று உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுடன் யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் போகிறீர்கள்; உங்கள் இருதயம் துவளவேண்டாம்; நீங்கள் அவர்களைப் பார்த்துப் பயப்படவும் கலங்கவும் தத்தளிக்கவும் வேண்டாம்.

3. He'll say, 'Attention, Israel. In a few minutes you're going to do battle with your enemies. Don't waver in resolve. Don't fear. Don't hesitate. Don't panic.

4. உங்களுக்காக உங்கள் சத்துருக்களோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணவும் உங்களை இரட்சிக்கவும் உங்களோடேகூடப் போகிறவர் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

4. GOD, your God, is right there with you, fighting with you against your enemies, fighting to win.'

5. அன்றியும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: புதுவீட்டைக் கட்டி, அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டை பண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டைப்பண்ணவேண்டியதாகும்.

5. Then let the officers step up and speak to the troops: 'Is there a man here who has built a new house but hasn't yet dedicated it? Let him go home right now lest he die in battle and another man dedicate it.

6. திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தை நாட்டி, அதை அனுபவியாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதை அநுபவிக்கவேண்டியதாகும்.

6. And is there a man here who has planted a vineyard but hasn't yet enjoyed the grapes? Let him go home right now lest he die in battle and another man enjoy the grapes.

7. ஒரு பெண்ணைத் தனக்கு நியமித்துக்கொண்டு, அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணவேண்டியதாகும் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

7. Is there a man here engaged to marry who hasn't yet taken his wife? Let him go home right now lest he die in battle and another man take her.'

8. பின்னும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களுடனே பேசி: பயங்காளியும் திடனற்றவனுமாயிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் சகோதரரின் இருதயத்தைத் தன் இருதயத்தைப்போலக் கரைந்துபோகப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கு, தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகக்கடவன் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும்.

8. The officers will then continue, 'And is there a man here who is wavering in resolve and afraid? Let him go home right now so that he doesn't infect his fellows with his timidity and cowardly spirit.'

9. அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களோடே பேசி முடிந்தபின்பு, ஜனங்களை நடத்தும்படி சேனைத்தலைவரை நியமிக்கக்கடவர்கள்.

9. When the officers have finished speaking to the troops, let them appoint commanders of the troops who shall muster them by units.

10. நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண நெருங்கும்போது, அந்தப் பட்டணத்தாருக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறக்கடவாய்.

10. When you come up against a city to attack it, call out, 'Peace?'

11. அவர்கள் உனக்குச் சமாதானமான உத்தரவு கொடுத்து, வாசலைத் திறந்தால், அதிலுள்ள ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் உனக்குப் பகுதிகட்டுகிறவர்களாகி, உனக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்யக்கடவர்கள்.

11. If they answer, 'Yes, peace!' and open the city to you, then everyone found there will be conscripted as forced laborers and work for you.

12. அவர்கள் உன்னோடே சமாதானப்படாமல், உன்னோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுவார்களானால், நீ அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு,

12. But if they don't settle for peace and insist on war, then go ahead and attack.

13. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் அதை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிலுள்ள புருஷர்கள் எல்லாரையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி,

13. GOD, your God, will give them to you. Kill all the men with your swords.

14. ஸ்திரீகளையும் குழந்தைகளையும் மிருகஜீவன்களையும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடே வைத்து, பட்டணத்திலுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் கொள்ளையிட்டு, உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த உன் சத்துருக்களின் கொள்ளைப்பொருளை அநுபவிப்பாயாக.

14. But don't kill the women and children and animals. Everything inside the town you can take as plunder for you to use and eat--GOD, your God, gives it to you.

15. இந்த ஜாதிகளைச்சேர்ந்த பட்டணங்களாயிராமல், உனக்கு வெகுதூரத்திலிருக்கிற சகல பட்டணங்களுக்கும் இப்படியே செய்வாயாக.

15. This is the way you deal with the distant towns, the towns that don't belong to the nations at hand.

16. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கிற ஏத்தியர், எமோரியர், கானானியர், பெரிசியர், ஏவியர், எபூசியர் என்னும் ஜனங்களின் பட்டணங்களிலேமாத்திரம் சுவாசமுள்ளதொன்றையும் உயிரோடே வைக்காமல்,

16. But with the towns of the people that GOD, your God, is giving you as an inheritance, it's different: don't leave anyone alive.

17. அவர்களை உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே சங்காரம்பண்ணக்கடவாய்.

17. Consign them to holy destruction: the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, obeying the command of GOD, your God.

18. அவர்கள் தங்கள் தேவர்களுக்குச் செய்கிற தங்களுடைய சகல அருவருப்புகளின்படியே நீங்களும் செய்ய உங்களுக்குக் கற்றுக்கொடாமலும், நீங்கள் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்யாமலும் இருக்கும்படி இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும்.

18. This is so there won't be any of them left to teach you to practice the abominations that they engage in with their gods and you end up sinning against GOD, your God.

19. நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி அதைப் பிடிக்க அநேகநாள் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டிருக்கும்போது, நீ கோடரியை ஓங்கி, அதின் மரங்களை வெட்டிச் சேதம்பண்ணாயாக; அவைகளின் கனியை நீ புசிக்கலாமே; ஆகையால் உனக்குக் கொத்தளத்திற்கு உதவும் என்று அவைகளை வெட்டாயாக; வெளியின் விருட்சங்கள் மனுஷனுடைய ஜீவனத்துக்கானவைகள்.

19. When you mount an attack on a town and the siege goes on a long time, don't start cutting down the trees, swinging your axes against them. Those trees are your future food; don't cut them down. Are trees soldiers who come against you with weapons?

20. புசிக்கிறதற்கேற்ற கனிகொடாத மரம் என்று நீ அறிந்திருக்கிற மரங்களை மாத்திரம் வெட்டியழித்து, உன்னோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிற பட்டணம் பிடிபடுமட்டும் அதற்கு எதிராகக் கொத்தளம் போடலாம்.

20. The exception can be those trees which don't produce food; you can chop them down and use the timbers to build siege engines against the town that is resisting you until it falls.
