1. But Job answered, and said:

2. என் சஞ்சலம் நிறுக்கப்பட்டு, என் நிர்ப்பந்தம் எல்லாம் தராசிலே வைக்கப்பட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

2. O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.

3. அப்பொழுது அது கடற்கரை மணலைப்பார்க்கிலும் பாரமாயிருக்கும்; ஆகையால் என் துக்கம் சொல்லிமுடியாது.

3. As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow:

4. சர்வவல்லவரின் அம்புகள் எனக்குள் தைத்திருக்கிறது; அவைகளின் விஷம் என் உயிரைக் குடிக்கிறது; தேவனால் உண்டாகும் பயங்கரங்கள் எனக்கு முன்பாக அணியணியாய் நிற்கிறது.

4. For the arrows of the Lord are in me, the rage whereof drinketh up my spirit, and the terrors of the Lord war against me.

5. புல்லிருக்கிற இடத்திலே காட்டுக்கழுதை கத்துமோ? தனக்குத் தீவனமிருக்கிற இடத்திலே எருது கதறுமோ?

5. Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?

6. ருசியில்லாத பதார்த்தத்தை உப்பில்லாமல் சாப்பிடக்கூடுமோ? முட்டையின் வெள்ளைக்கருவில் சுவை உண்டோ?

6. Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?

7. உங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை என் ஆத்துமா தொடமாட்டேன் என்கிறது; அவைகள் அரோசிகமான போஜனம்போல் இருக்கிறது.

7. The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.

8. ஆ, என் மன்றாட்டு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டு, நான் வாஞ்சிப்பதை தேவன் எனக்குத் தந்து,

8. Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?

9. தேவன் என்னை நொறுக்கச் சித்தமாய், தம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி என்னைத் துண்டித்துப்போட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

9. And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?

10. அப்பொழுதாவது எனக்கு ஆறுதல் இருக்குமே; அப்பொழுது என்னைத் தப்பவிடாத நோவிலே மரத்திருப்பேன்; பரிசுத்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளை நான் மறைத்துவைக்கவில்லை, அவர் என்னைத் தப்பவிடாராக.

10. And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.

11. நான் காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்க என் பெலன் எம்மாத்திரம்? என் ஜீவனை நீடித்திருக்கப்பண்ண என் முடிவு எப்படிப்பட்டது?

11. For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?

12. என் பெலன் கற்களின் பெலனோ? என் மாம்சம் வெண்கலமோ?

12. My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.

13. எனக்கு உதவியானது ஒன்றும் இல்லையல்லவோ? சகாயம் என்னைவிட்டு நீங்கிற்றே.

13. Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.

14. உபாதிக்கப்படுகிறவனுக்கு அவனுடைய சிநேகிதனால் தயை கிடைக்கவேண்டும்; அவனோ சர்வவல்லவருக்குப் பயப்படாதே போகிறான்.

14. He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.

15. என் சகோதரர் காட்டாறுபோல மோசம்பண்ணுகிறார்கள்; ஆறுகளின் வெள்ளத்தைப்போலக் கடந்து போகிறார்கள்.

15. My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.

16. அவைகள் குளிர்காலப் பனிக்கட்டியினாலும், அதில் விழுந்திருக்கிற உறைந்த மழையினாலும் கலங்கலாகி,

16. They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.

17. உஷ்ணங்கண்டவுடனே உருகி வற்றி, அனல்பட்டவுடனே தங்கள் ஸ்தலத்தில் உருவழிந்து போகின்றன.

17. At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.

18. அவைகளுடைய வழிகளின் போக்குகள் இங்குமங்கும் பிரியும்; அவைகள் விருதாவிலே பரவி ஒன்றும் இல்லாமற்போகும்.

18. The paths of their steps are entangled: they shall walk in vain, and shall perish.

19. தேமாவின் பயணக்காரர் தேடி, சேபாவின் பயணக்கூட்டங்கள் அவைகள்மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து,

19. Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.

20. தாங்கள் இப்படி நம்பினதினாலே வெட்கப்படுகிறார்கள்; அவ்விடமட்டும் வந்து கலங்கிப்போகிறார்கள்.

20. They are confounded, because I have hoped: they are come also even unto me, and are covered with shame.

21. அப்படியே நீங்களும் இப்பொழுது ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாமற்போனீர்கள்; என் ஆபத்தைக் கண்டு பயப்படுகிறீர்கள்.

21. Now you are come: and now seeing my affliction you are afraid.

22. எனக்கு ஏதாகிலும் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றும், உங்கள் ஆஸ்தியிலிருந்து எனக்கு யாதொரு வெகுமானம் கொடுங்கள் என்றும்;

22. Did I say: Bring to me, and give me of your substance?

23. அல்லது சத்துருவின் கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவியுங்கள், வல்லடிக்காரரின் கைக்கு என்னை நீங்கலாக்கி மீட்டுவிடுங்கள் என்றும் நான் சொன்னதுண்டோ?

23. Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?

24. எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணுங்கள், நான் மவுனமாயிருப்பேன்; நான் எதிலே தவறினேனோ அதை எனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துங்கள்.

24. Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and if I have been ignorant in any thing, instruct me.

25. செம்மையான வார்த்தைகளில் எவ்வளவு வல்லமை உண்டு? உங்கள் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலினால் காரியம் என்ன?

25. Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?

26. கடிந்துகொள்ள நீங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை யோசித்து, நம்பிக்கையற்றவனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் காற்றிலே விட்டுவிடுகிறீர்களோ?

26. You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.

27. இப்படிச் செய்து திக்கற்றவன்மேல் நீங்கள் விழுந்து, உங்கள் சிநேகிதனுக்குப் படுகுழியை வெட்டுகிறீர்கள்.

27. You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.

28. இப்போதும் உங்களுக்குச் சித்தமானால் என்னை நோக்கிப் பாருங்கள்; அப்பொழுது நான் பொய்சொல்லுகிறேனோ என்று உங்களுக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாய் விளங்கும்.

28. However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.

29. நீங்கள் திரும்புங்கள்; அக்கிரமம் காணப்படாதிருக்கும்; திரும்புங்கள் என் நீதி அதிலே விளங்கும்.

29. Answer, I beseech you, without contention: and speaking that which is just, judge ye.

30. என் நாவிலே அக்கிரமம் உண்டோ? என் வாய் ஆகாதவைகளைப் பகுத்தறியாதோ?

30. And you shall not And iniquity in my tongue, neither shall folly sound in my mouth.
