2. என் சஞ்சலம் நிறுக்கப்பட்டு, என் நிர்ப்பந்தம் எல்லாம் தராசிலே வைக்கப்பட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

2. 'Oh, if only my grief could be weighed, and my misfortune laid on the scales too!

3. அப்பொழுது அது கடற்கரை மணலைப்பார்க்கிலும் பாரமாயிருக்கும்; ஆகையால் என் துக்கம் சொல்லிமுடியாது.

3. But because it is heavier than the sand of the sea, that is why my words have been wild.

4. சர்வவல்லவரின் அம்புகள் எனக்குள் தைத்திருக்கிறது; அவைகளின் விஷம் என் உயிரைக் குடிக்கிறது; தேவனால் உண்டாகும் பயங்கரங்கள் எனக்கு முன்பாக அணியணியாய் நிற்கிறது.

4. For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks their poison; God's sudden terrors are arrayed against me.

5. புல்லிருக்கிற இடத்திலே காட்டுக்கழுதை கத்துமோ? தனக்குத் தீவனமிருக்கிற இடத்திலே எருது கதறுமோ?

5. 'Does the wild donkey bray when it is near grass? Or does the ox low near its fodder?

6. ருசியில்லாத பதார்த்தத்தை உப்பில்லாமல் சாப்பிடக்கூடுமோ? முட்டையின் வெள்ளைக்கருவில் சுவை உண்டோ?

6. Can food that is tasteless be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

7. உங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை என் ஆத்துமா தொடமாட்டேன் என்கிறது; அவைகள் அரோசிகமான போஜனம்போல் இருக்கிறது.

7. I have refused to touch such things; they are like loathsome food to me.

8. ஆ, என் மன்றாட்டு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டு, நான் வாஞ்சிப்பதை தேவன் எனக்குத் தந்து,

8. 'Oh that my request would be realized, and that God would grant me what I long for!

9. தேவன் என்னை நொறுக்கச் சித்தமாய், தம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி என்னைத் துண்டித்துப்போட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

9. And that God would be willing to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and kill me.

10. அப்பொழுதாவது எனக்கு ஆறுதல் இருக்குமே; அப்பொழுது என்னைத் தப்பவிடாத நோவிலே மரத்திருப்பேன்; பரிசுத்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளை நான் மறைத்துவைக்கவில்லை, அவர் என்னைத் தப்பவிடாராக.

10. Then I would yet have my comfort, then I would rejoice, in spite of pitiless pain, for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

11. நான் காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்க என் பெலன் எம்மாத்திரம்? என் ஜீவனை நீடித்திருக்கப்பண்ண என் முடிவு எப்படிப்பட்டது?

11. What is my strength, that I should wait? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

12. என் பெலன் கற்களின் பெலனோ? என் மாம்சம் வெண்கலமோ?

12. Is my strength like that of stones? or is my flesh made of bronze?

13. எனக்கு உதவியானது ஒன்றும் இல்லையல்லவோ? சகாயம் என்னைவிட்டு நீங்கிற்றே.

13. Is not my power to help myself nothing, and has not every resource been driven from me?

14. உபாதிக்கப்படுகிறவனுக்கு அவனுடைய சிநேகிதனால் தயை கிடைக்கவேண்டும்; அவனோ சர்வவல்லவருக்குப் பயப்படாதே போகிறான்.

14. 'To the one in despair, kindness should come from his friend even if he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.

15. என் சகோதரர் காட்டாறுபோல மோசம்பண்ணுகிறார்கள்; ஆறுகளின் வெள்ளத்தைப்போலக் கடந்து போகிறார்கள்.

15. My brothers have been as treacherous as a seasonal stream, and as the riverbeds of the intermittent streams that flow away.

16. அவைகள் குளிர்காலப் பனிக்கட்டியினாலும், அதில் விழுந்திருக்கிற உறைந்த மழையினாலும் கலங்கலாகி,

16. They are dark because of ice; snow is piled up over them.

17. உஷ்ணங்கண்டவுடனே உருகி வற்றி, அனல்பட்டவுடனே தங்கள் ஸ்தலத்தில் உருவழிந்து போகின்றன.

17. When they are scorched, they dry up, when it is hot, they vanish from their place.

18. அவைகளுடைய வழிகளின் போக்குகள் இங்குமங்கும் பிரியும்; அவைகள் விருதாவிலே பரவி ஒன்றும் இல்லாமற்போகும்.

18. Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the wasteland and perish.

19. தேமாவின் பயணக்காரர் தேடி, சேபாவின் பயணக்கூட்டங்கள் அவைகள்மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து,

19. The caravans of Tema looked intently for these streams; the traveling merchants of Sheba hoped for them.

20. தாங்கள் இப்படி நம்பினதினாலே வெட்கப்படுகிறார்கள்; அவ்விடமட்டும் வந்து கலங்கிப்போகிறார்கள்.

20. They were distressed, because each one had been so confident; they arrived there, but were disappointed.

21. அப்படியே நீங்களும் இப்பொழுது ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாமற்போனீர்கள்; என் ஆபத்தைக் கண்டு பயப்படுகிறீர்கள்.

21. For now you have become like these streams that are no help; you see a terror, and are afraid.

22. எனக்கு ஏதாகிலும் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றும், உங்கள் ஆஸ்தியிலிருந்து எனக்கு யாதொரு வெகுமானம் கொடுங்கள் என்றும்;

22. 'Have I ever said, 'Give me something, and from your fortune make gifts in my favor'?

23. அல்லது சத்துருவின் கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவியுங்கள், வல்லடிக்காரரின் கைக்கு என்னை நீங்கலாக்கி மீட்டுவிடுங்கள் என்றும் நான் சொன்னதுண்டோ?

23. Or 'Deliver me from the enemy's power, and from the hand of tyrants ransom me'?

24. எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணுங்கள், நான் மவுனமாயிருப்பேன்; நான் எதிலே தவறினேனோ அதை எனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துங்கள்.

24. 'Teach me and I, for my part, will be silent; explain to me how I have been mistaken.

25. செம்மையான வார்த்தைகளில் எவ்வளவு வல்லமை உண்டு? உங்கள் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலினால் காரியம் என்ன?

25. How painful are honest words! But what does your reproof prove?

26. கடிந்துகொள்ள நீங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை யோசித்து, நம்பிக்கையற்றவனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் காற்றிலே விட்டுவிடுகிறீர்களோ?

26. Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat the words of a despairing man as wind?

27. இப்படிச் செய்து திக்கற்றவன்மேல் நீங்கள் விழுந்து, உங்கள் சிநேகிதனுக்குப் படுகுழியை வெட்டுகிறீர்கள்.

27. Yes, you would gamble for the fatherless, and auction off your friend.

28. இப்போதும் உங்களுக்குச் சித்தமானால் என்னை நோக்கிப் பாருங்கள்; அப்பொழுது நான் பொய்சொல்லுகிறேனோ என்று உங்களுக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாய் விளங்கும்.

28. 'Now then, be good enough to look at me; and I will not lie to your face!

29. நீங்கள் திரும்புங்கள்; அக்கிரமம் காணப்படாதிருக்கும்; திரும்புங்கள் என் நீதி அதிலே விளங்கும்.

29. Relent, let there be no falsehood; reconsider, for my righteousness is intact!

30. என் நாவிலே அக்கிரமம் உண்டோ? என் வாய் ஆகாதவைகளைப் பகுத்தறியாதோ?

30. Is there any falsehood on my lips? Can my mouth not discern evil things?
