1. மெதுவான பிரதியுத்தரம் உக்கிரத்தை மாற்றும்; கடுஞ்சொற்களோ கோபத்தை எழுப்பும்.

1. Anger slays even wise men, yet a submissive answer turns away wrath; but a grievous word stirs up anger.

2. ஞானிகளின் நாவு அறிவை உபயோகப்படுத்தும்; மூடரின் வாயோ புத்தியீனத்தைக் கக்கும்.

2. The tongue of the wise knows what is good, but the mouth of the foolish speaks evil things.

3. கர்த்தரின் கண்கள் எவ்விடத்திலுமிருந்து, நல்லோரையும் தீயோரையும் நோக்கிப்பார்க்கிறது.

3. The eyes of the Lord behold both the evil and the good in every place.

4. ஆரோக்கியமுள்ள நாவு ஜீவவிருட்சம்; நாவின் மாறுபாடோ ஆவியை நொறுக்கும்.

4. The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, and he that keeps it shall be filled with understanding.

5. மூடன் தன் தகப்பன் புத்தியை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கவனித்து நடக்கிறவனோ விவேகி.

5. A fool scorns his father's instruction, but he that keeps his commandments is more prudent. In abounding righteousness is great strength, but the ungodly shall utterly perish from the earth.

6. நீதிமானுடைய வீட்டில் அதிக பொக்கிஷமுண்டு; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வருமானத்திலோ துன்பமுண்டு.

6. In the houses of the righteous is much strength, but the fruits of the ungodly shall perish.

7. ஞானிகளின் உதடுகள் அறிவை இறைக்கும்; மூடரின் இருதயமோ அப்படியல்ல.

7. The lips of the wise are bound by discretion, but the hearts of the foolish are not safe.

8. துன்மார்க்கருடைய பலி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; செம்மையானவர்களின் ஜெபமோ அவருக்குப் பிரியம்.

8. The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

9. துன்மார்க்கருடைய வழி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; நீதியைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனையோ அவர் நேசிக்கிறார்.

9. The ways of an ungodly man are an abomination to the Lord, but He loves those that follow after righteousness.

10. வழியை விட்டு விலகுகிறவனுக்குப் புத்திமதி விசனமாயிருக்கும்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை வெறுக்கிறவன் சாவான்.

10. The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.

11. பாதாளமும் அழிவும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்க, மனுபுத்திரருடைய இருதயம் அதிக பிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்குமல்லவோ?

11. Hell and destruction are manifest to the Lord, how shall not the hearts of men be, also?

12. பரியாசக்காரன் தன்னைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளுகிறவனை நேசியான்; ஞானவான்களிடத்தில் போகவுமாட்டான்.

12. An uninstructed person will not love those that reprove him, neither will he associate with the wise.

13. மனமகிழ்ச்சி முகமலர்ச்சியைத் தரும்; மனோதுக்கத்தினாலே ஆவி முறிந்துபோகும்.

13. When the heart rejoices, the countenance is cheerful, but when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad.

14. புத்திமானுடைய மனம் அறிவைத்தேடும்; மூடரின் வாயோ மதியீனத்தை மேயும்.

14. An upright heart seeks discretion, but the mouth of the uninstructed will experience evils.

15. சிறுமைப்பட்டவனுடைய நாட்களெல்லாம் தீங்குள்ளவைகள்; மனரம்மியமோ நித்திய விருந்து.

15. The eyes of the wicked are always looking for evil things, but the good are always quiet.

16. சஞ்சலத்தோடு கூடிய அதிகப்பொருளிலும், கர்த்தரைப் பற்றும் பயத்தோடு கூடிய கொஞ்சப்பொருளே உத்தமம்.

16. Better is a small portion with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without the fear [of the Lord].

17. பகையோடிருக்கும் கொழுத்த எருதின் கறியைப்பார்க்கிலும், சிநேகத்தோடிருக்கும் இலைக்கறியே நல்லது.

17. Better is an entertainment of herbs with friendliness and kindness, than a feast of calves, with enmity.

18. கோபக்காரன் சண்டையை எழுப்புகிறான்; நீடியசாந்தமுள்ளவனோ சண்டையை அமர்த்துகிறான்.

18. A passionate man stirs up strife; but [he that is] slow to anger appeases even a rising one. [ 15:18A] A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs [them] up.

19. சோம்பேறியின் வழி முள்வேலிக்குச் சமானம்; நீதிமானுடைய வழியோ ராஜபாதை.

19. The ways of sluggards are strewn with thorns, but those of the diligent are made smooth.

20. ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனைச் சந்தோஷப்படுத்துகிறான்; மதியற்ற மனுஷனோ தன் தாயை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்.

20. A wise son gladdens his father, but a foolish son sneers at his mother.

21. மூடத்தனம் புத்தியீனனுக்குச் சந்தோஷம்; புத்திமானோ தன் நடக்கையைச் செம்மைப்படுத்துகிறான்.

21. The ways of a foolish man are void of sense, but a wise man walks straight.

22. ஆலோசனையில்லாமையால் எண்ணங்கள் சித்தியாமற்போகும்; ஆலோசனைக்காரர் அநேகர் இருந்தால் அவைகள் உறுதிப்படும்.

22. They that honor not councils put off deliberation, but counsel abides in the hearts of counselors.

23. மனுஷனுக்குத் தன் வாய்மொழியினால் மகிழ்ச்சியுண்டாகும்; ஏற்றகாலத்தில் சொன்ன வார்த்தை எவ்வளவு நல்லது!

23. A bad man will by no means obey counsel, neither will he say anything seasonable, or of good report.

24. கீழான பாதாளத்தை விட்டு விலகும்படி, விவேகிக்கு ஜீவவழியானது உன்னதத்தை நோக்கும் வழியாம்.

24. The thoughts of the wise are ways of life, that he may turn aside and escape from hell.

25. அகங்காரியின் வீட்டைக் கர்த்தர் பிடுங்கிப்போடுவார்; விதவையின் எல்லையையோ நிலைப்படுத்துவார்.

25. The Lord pulls down the houses of scorners, but He establishes the border of the widow.

26. துன்மார்க்கருடைய நினைவுகள் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்; சுத்தவான்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளோ இன்பமானவைகள்.

26. An unrighteous thought is an abomination to the Lord, but the sayings of the pure are held in honor.

27. பொருளாசைக்காரன் தன் வீட்டைக் கலைக்கிறான்; பரிதானங்களை வெறுக்கிறவனோ பிழைப்பான்.

27. A receiver of bribes destroys himself, but he that hates the receiving of bribes is safe. [ 15:27A] By alms and by faithful dealings sins are purged away, but by the fear of the Lord everyone departs from evil.

28. நீதிமானுடைய மனம் பிரதியுத்தரம் சொல்ல யோசிக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வாயோ தீமைகளைக் கொப்பளிக்கும்.

28. The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness, but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. [ 15:28A] The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord, and through them even enemies become friends.

29. துன்மார்க்கருக்குக் கர்த்தர் தூரமாயிருக்கிறார்; நீதிமான்களின் ஜெபத்தையோ கேட்கிறார்.

29. God is far from the ungodly, but He hears the prayers of the righteous. [ 15:29A] Better are small receipts with righteousness, than abundant fruits with unrighteousness. [ 15:29B] Let the heart of a man think justly, that his steps may be rightly ordered of God.

30. கண்களின் ஒளி இருதயத்தைப் பூரிப்பாக்கும்; நற்செய்தி எலும்புகளைப் புஷ்டியாக்கும்.

30. The eye that sees rightly rejoices the heart, and a good report fattens the bones.

31. ஜீவனுக்கேதுவான கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் காது ஞானிகளிடத்தே தங்கும்.

32. புத்திமதியைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவை வெறுக்கிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கேட்கிறவனோ ஞானமடைவான்.

32. He that rejects instruction hates himself, but he who heeds rebuke loves his soul.

33. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஞானத்தைப் போதிக்கும்; மேன்மைக்கு முன்னானது தாழ்மை.

33. The fear of the Lord is instruction and wisdom, and the highest honor will correspond therewith.
