1. மெதுவான பிரதியுத்தரம் உக்கிரத்தை மாற்றும்; கடுஞ்சொற்களோ கோபத்தை எழுப்பும்.

1. A SOFT answer turneth away wrath: but a grievous word stirreth up anger.

2. ஞானிகளின் நாவு அறிவை உபயோகப்படுத்தும்; மூடரின் வாயோ புத்தியீனத்தைக் கக்கும்.

2. The tongue of the wise uttereth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out folly.

3. கர்த்தரின் கண்கள் எவ்விடத்திலுமிருந்து, நல்லோரையும் தீயோரையும் நோக்கிப்பார்க்கிறது.

3. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good.

4. ஆரோக்கியமுள்ள நாவு ஜீவவிருட்சம்; நாவின் மாறுபாடோ ஆவியை நொறுக்கும்.

4. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit.

5. மூடன் தன் தகப்பன் புத்தியை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கவனித்து நடக்கிறவனோ விவேகி.

5. A fool despiseth his fathers correction: but he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.

6. நீதிமானுடைய வீட்டில் அதிக பொக்கிஷமுண்டு; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வருமானத்திலோ துன்பமுண்டு.

6. In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7. ஞானிகளின் உதடுகள் அறிவை இறைக்கும்; மூடரின் இருதயமோ அப்படியல்ல.

7. The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish {cf15i doeth} not so.

8. துன்மார்க்கருடைய பலி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; செம்மையானவர்களின் ஜெபமோ அவருக்குப் பிரியம்.

8. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9. துன்மார்க்கருடைய வழி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; நீதியைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனையோ அவர் நேசிக்கிறார்.

9. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10. வழியை விட்டு விலகுகிறவனுக்குப் புத்திமதி விசனமாயிருக்கும்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை வெறுக்கிறவன் சாவான்.

10. There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way: {cf15i and} he that hateth reproof shall die.

11. பாதாளமும் அழிவும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்க, மனுபுத்திரருடைய இருதயம் அதிக பிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்குமல்லவோ?

11. Sheol and Abaddon are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men!

12. பரியாசக்காரன் தன்னைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளுகிறவனை நேசியான்; ஞானவான்களிடத்தில் போகவுமாட்டான்.

12. A scorner loveth not to be reproved: he will not go unto the wise.

13. மனமகிழ்ச்சி முகமலர்ச்சியைத் தரும்; மனோதுக்கத்தினாலே ஆவி முறிந்துபோகும்.

13. A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

14. புத்திமானுடைய மனம் அறிவைத்தேடும்; மூடரின் வாயோ மதியீனத்தை மேயும்.

14. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.

15. சிறுமைப்பட்டவனுடைய நாட்களெல்லாம் தீங்குள்ளவைகள்; மனரம்மியமோ நித்திய விருந்து.

15. All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a cheerful heart {cf15i hath} a continual feast.

16. சஞ்சலத்தோடு கூடிய அதிகப்பொருளிலும், கர்த்தரைப் பற்றும் பயத்தோடு கூடிய கொஞ்சப்பொருளே உத்தமம்.

16. Better is little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17. பகையோடிருக்கும் கொழுத்த எருதின் கறியைப்பார்க்கிலும், சிநேகத்தோடிருக்கும் இலைக்கறியே நல்லது.

17. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18. கோபக்காரன் சண்டையை எழுப்புகிறான்; நீடியசாந்தமுள்ளவனோ சண்டையை அமர்த்துகிறான்.

18. A wrathful man stirreth up contention: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19. சோம்பேறியின் வழி முள்வேலிக்குச் சமானம்; நீதிமானுடைய வழியோ ராஜபாதை.

19. The way of the sluggard is as an hedge of thorns: but the path of the upright is made an highway.

20. ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனைச் சந்தோஷப்படுத்துகிறான்; மதியற்ற மனுஷனோ தன் தாயை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்.

20. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21. மூடத்தனம் புத்தியீனனுக்குச் சந்தோஷம்; புத்திமானோ தன் நடக்கையைச் செம்மைப்படுத்துகிறான்.

21. Folly is joy to him that is void of wisdom: but a man of understanding maketh straight his going.

22. ஆலோசனையில்லாமையால் எண்ணங்கள் சித்தியாமற்போகும்; ஆலோசனைக்காரர் அநேகர் இருந்தால் அவைகள் உறுதிப்படும்.

22. Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23. மனுஷனுக்குத் தன் வாய்மொழியினால் மகிழ்ச்சியுண்டாகும்; ஏற்றகாலத்தில் சொன்ன வார்த்தை எவ்வளவு நல்லது!

23. A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth: and a word in due season, how good is it!

24. கீழான பாதாளத்தை விட்டு விலகும்படி, விவேகிக்கு ஜீவவழியானது உன்னதத்தை நோக்கும் வழியாம்.

24. To the wise the way of life {cf15i goeth} upward, that he may depart from Sheol beneath.

25. அகங்காரியின் வீட்டைக் கர்த்தர் பிடுங்கிப்போடுவார்; விதவையின் எல்லையையோ நிலைப்படுத்துவார்.

25. The LORD will root up the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26. துன்மார்க்கருடைய நினைவுகள் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்; சுத்தவான்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளோ இன்பமானவைகள்.

26. Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD: but pleasant words {cf15i are} pure.

27. பொருளாசைக்காரன் தன் வீட்டைக் கலைக்கிறான்; பரிதானங்களை வெறுக்கிறவனோ பிழைப்பான்.

27. He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house: but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28. நீதிமானுடைய மனம் பிரதியுத்தரம் சொல்ல யோசிக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வாயோ தீமைகளைக் கொப்பளிக்கும்.

28. The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29. துன்மார்க்கருக்குக் கர்த்தர் தூரமாயிருக்கிறார்; நீதிமான்களின் ஜெபத்தையோ கேட்கிறார்.

29. The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30. கண்களின் ஒளி இருதயத்தைப் பூரிப்பாக்கும்; நற்செய்தி எலும்புகளைப் புஷ்டியாக்கும்.

30. The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: {cf15i and} good tidings make the bones fat.

31. ஜீவனுக்கேதுவான கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் காது ஞானிகளிடத்தே தங்கும்.

31. The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

32. புத்திமதியைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவை வெறுக்கிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கேட்கிறவனோ ஞானமடைவான்.

32. He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul: but he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.

33. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஞானத்தைப் போதிக்கும்; மேன்மைக்கு முன்னானது தாழ்மை.

33. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour {cf15i goeth} humility.
