1. அக்காலத்திலே யெரொபெயாமின் குமாரனாகிய அபியா வியாதியில் விழுந்தான்.

1. At about this time Jeroboam's son Abijah came down sick.

2. அப்பொழுது யெரொபெயாம் தன் மனைவியைப் பார்த்து: நீ எழுந்து, நீ யெரொபெயாமின் மனைவியென்று ஒருவரும் அறியாதபடிக்கு வேஷம்மாறி சீலோவுக்குப் போ; இந்த ஜனத்தின்மேல் நான் ராஜாவாவேன் என்று என்னோடே சொன்ன தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய அகியா அங்கே இருக்கிறான்.

2. Jeroboam said to his wife, 'Do something. Disguise yourself so no one will know you are the queen and go to Shiloh. Ahijah the prophet lives there, the same Ahijah who told me I'd be king over this people.

3. நீ உன் கையிலே பத்து அப்பங்களையும், பணியாரங்களையும், ஒரு கலசம் தேனையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவனிடத்துக்குப் போ; பிள்ளைக்குச் சம்பவிக்கப்போகிறது இன்னதென்று அவன் உனக்கு அறிவிப்பான் என்றான்.

3. Take along ten loaves of bread, some sweet rolls, and a jug of honey. Make a visit to him and he'll tell you what's going on with our boy.'

4. அப்படியே யெரொபெயாமின் மனைவி செய்தாள்; அவள் எழுந்து சீலோவுக்குப் போய், அகியாவின் வீட்டிற்குள் பிரவேசித்தாள்; அகியாவோ முதிர் வயதானதினால் அவன் கண்கள் மங்கலடைந்து பார்க்கக்கூடாதிருந்தான்.

4. Jeroboam's wife did as she was told; she went straight to Shiloh and to Ahijah's house. Ahijah was an old man at this time, and blind,

5. but GOD had warned Ahijah, 'Jeroboam's wife is on her way to consult with you regarding her sick son; tell her this and this and this.' When she came in she was disguised.

6. ஆகையால் வாசற்படிக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும் அவளுடைய நடையின் சத்தத்தை அகியா கேட்டவுடனே, அவன்: யெரொபெயாமின் மனைவியே, உள்ளே வா; உன்னை அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயாகக் காண்பிக்கிறதென்ன? துக்கசெய்தியை உனக்கு அறிவிக்க நான் அனுப்பப்பட்டேன்.

6. Ahijah heard her come through the door and said, 'Welcome, wife of Jeroboam! But why the deception? I've got bad news for you.

7. Go and deliver this message I received firsthand from GOD, the God of Israel, to Jeroboam: I raised you up from obscurity and made you the leader of my people Israel.

8. நான் ராஜ்யபாரத்தைத் தாவீது வம்சத்தாரின் கையிலிருந்து பிடுங்கி உனக்குக் கொடுத்தேன்; ஆனாலும் என் கற்பனைகளைக் கைக்கொண்டு, என் பார்வைக்குச் செம்மையானதையே செய்ய, தன் முழு இருதயத்தோடும் என்னைப் பின்பற்றின என் தாசனாகிய தாவீதைப்போல நீ இராமல்,

8. I ripped the kingdom from the hands of David's family and gave it to you, but you weren't at all like my servant David who did what I told him and lived from his undivided heart, pleasing me.

9. உனக்கு முன்னிருந்த எல்லாரைப்பார்க்கிலும் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்தாய்; எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்க, நீ போய் உனக்கு அந்நிய தேவர்களையும் வார்க்கப்பட்ட விக்கிரகங்களையும் உண்டுபண்ணி, உனக்குப் புறம்பே என்னைத் தள்ளிவிட்டாய்.

9. Instead you've set a new record in works of evil by making alien gods--tin gods! Pushing me aside and turning your back--you've made me mighty angry.

10. ஆகையால் இதோ, நான் யெரொபெயாமுடைய வீட்டின்மேல் பொல்லாப்பை வரப்பண்ணி, யெரொபெயாமுக்கு, சுவர்மேல் நீர்விடும் ஒரு நாய் முதலாயிராதபடிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேலிலே அடைபட்டவனையும் விடுபட்டவனையும் சங்காரம்பண்ணி, குப்பை கழித்துப்போடப்படுகிறதுபோல யெரொபெயாமின் பின்னடியாரை அவர்கள் கட்டோடே அற்றுப்போகுமட்டும் கழித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றார்.

10. 'And I'll not put up with it: I'm bringing doom on the household of Jeroboam, killing the lot of them right down to the last male wretch in Israel, whether slave or free. They've become nothing but garbage and I'm getting rid of them.

11. யெரொபெயாமின் சந்ததியாரில் பட்டணத்திலே சாகிறவனை நாய்கள் தின்னும்; வெளியிலே சாகிறவனை ஆகாயத்தின் பறவைகள் தின்னும்; கர்த்தர் இதை உரைத்தார்.

11. The ones who die in the city will be eaten by stray dogs; the ones who die out in the country will be eaten by carrion crows. GOD's decree!

12. ஆகையால் நீ எழுந்து, உன் வீட்டுக்குப்போ, உன் கால்கள் பட்டணத்திற்குள் பிரவேசிக்கையில் பிள்ளையாண்டான் செத்துப்போவான்.

12. 'And that's it. Go on home--the minute you step foot in town, the boy will die.

13. அவனுக்காக இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் துக்கங்கொண்டாடி அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணுவார்கள்; யெரொபெயாமின் வீட்டாரில் இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக அவனிடத்திலே நல்ல காரியம் காணப்பட்டதினால், யெரொபெயாமின் சந்ததியில் அவன் ஒருவனே கல்லறைக்குட்படுவான்.

13. Everyone will come to his burial, mourning his death. He is the only one in Jeroboam's family who will get a decent burial; he's the only one for whom GOD, the God of Israel, has a good word to say.

14. ஆனாலும் கர்த்தர் தமக்கு இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ஒரு ராஜாவை எழும்பப்பண்ணுவார்; அவன் அந்நாளிலே யெரொபெயாமின் வீட்டாரைச் சங்கரிப்பான்; இப்போதே இது நடந்தேறும்.

14. 'Then GOD will appoint a king over Israel who will wipe out Jeroboam's family, wipe them right off the map--doomsday for Jeroboam!

15. He will hit Israel hard, as a storm slaps reeds about; he'll pull them up by the roots from this good land of their inheritance, weeding them out, and then scatter them to the four winds. And why? Because they made GOD so angry with Asherah sex-and-religion shrines.

16. யெரொபெயாம் செய்ததும் இஸ்ரவேலைச் செய்யப்பண்ணினதுமான பாவத்தினிமித்தம் இஸ்ரவேலை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்துவிடுவார் என்றான்.

16. He'll wash his hands of Israel because of Jeroboam's sins, which have led Israel into a life of sin.'

17. அப்பொழுது யெரொபெயாமின் மனைவி எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு திர்சாவுக்கு வந்தாள்; அவள் வாசற்படியிலே வருகையில் பிள்ளையாண்டான் செத்துப்போனான்.

17. Jeroboam's wife left and went home to Tirzah. The moment she stepped through the door, the boy died.

18. கர்த்தர் தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய அகியா என்னும் தமது ஊழியக்காரனைக் கொண்டு சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே, அவர்கள் அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணி, இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அவனுக்காகத் துக்கங்கொண்டாடினார்கள்.

18. They buried him and everyone mourned his death, just as GOD had said through his servant the prophet Ahijah.

19. யெரொபெயாம் யுத்தம்பண்ணினதும் ஆண்டதுமான அவனுடைய மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்கள் இஸ்ரவேல் ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

20. He ruled for twenty-two years. He died and was buried with his ancestors. Nadab his son was king after him.

21. சாலொமோனின் குமாரனாகிய ரெகொபெயாம் யூதாவிலே ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணினான்; ரெகொபெயாம் ராஜாவாகிறபோது நாற்பத்தொரு வயதாயிருந்து, கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய நாமம் விளங்கும்படி இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலெல்லாம் தெரிந்துகொண்ட நகரமாகிய எருசலேமிலே பதினேழு வருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம் பண்ணினான்; அம்மோன் ஜாதியான அவனுடைய தாயின் பேர் நாமாள்.

21. Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he took the throne and was king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city GOD selected from all the tribes of Israel for the worship of his Name. Rehoboam's mother was Naamah, an Ammonite.

22. யூதா ஜனங்கள் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்து, தாங்கள் செய்து வருகிற தங்களுடைய பாவங்களினால் தங்கள் பிதாக்கள் செய்த எல்லாவற்றைப்பார்க்கிலும் அவருக்கு அதிக எரிச்சலை மூட்டினார்கள்.

22. Judah was openly wicked before GOD, making him very angry. They set new records in sin, surpassing anything their ancestors had done.

23. அவர்களும் உயர்ந்த சகல மேட்டின் மேலும், பச்சையான சகல மரத்தின் கீழும், மேடைகளையும் சிலைகளையும் தோப்புவிக்கிரகங்களையும் தங்களுக்கு உண்டாக்கினார்கள்.

23. They built Asherah sex-and-religion shrines and set up sacred stones all over the place--on hills, under trees, wherever you looked.

24. தேசத்திலே இலச்சையான புணர்ச்சிக்காரரும் இருந்தார்கள்; கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்திவிட்ட ஜாதிகளுடைய அருவருப்புகளின்படியெல்லாம் செய்தார்கள்.

24. Worse, they had male sacred prostitutes, polluting the country outrageously--all the stuff that GOD had gotten rid of when he brought Israel into the land.

25. ரெகொபெயாம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணும் ஐந்தாம் வருஷத்திலே, எகிப்தின் ராஜாவாகிய சீஷாக் எருசலேமுக்கு விரோதமாய் வந்து,

25. In the fifth year of King Rehoboam's rule, Shishak king of Egypt made war against Jerusalem.

26. கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தின் பொக்கிஷங்களையும், ராஜாவுடைய அரமனையின் பொக்கிஷங்களையும், சாலொமோன் செய்வித்த பொன் பரிசைகள் ஆகிய சகலத்தையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போய்விட்டான்.

26. He plundered The Temple of GOD and the royal palace of their treasures, cleaned them out--even the gold shields that Solomon had made.

27. அவைகளுக்குப் பதிலாக ராஜாவாகிய ரெகொபெயாம் வெண்கலப் பரிசைகளைச் செய்வித்து, அவைகளை ராஜாவின் வாசற்படியைக் காக்கிற சேவகருடைய தலைவரின் கையில் ஒப்புவித்தான்.

27. King Rehoboam replaced them with bronze shields and outfitted the royal palace guards with them.

28. ராஜா கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, அரமனைச்சேவகர் அவைகளைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டுபோய், திரும்பத் தங்கள் அறையிலே வைப்பார்கள்.

28. Whenever the king went to GOD's Temple, the guards carried the shields but always returned them to the guardroom.

29. ரெகொபெயாமின் மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்களும், அவன் செய்தவை யாவும், யூதாவுடைய ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் அல்லவோ எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

30. ரெகொபெயாமுக்கும் யெரொபெயாமுக்கும் அவர்கள் இருந்த நாட்களிலெல்லாம் யுத்தம் நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது.

30. There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam the whole time.

31. ரெகொபெயாம் தன் பிதாக்களோடே நித்திரையடைந்து, தாவீதின் நகரத்தில் தன் பிதாக்களண்டையில் அடக்கம் பண்ணப்பட்டான்; அம்மோன் ஜாதியான அவன் தாய்க்கு நாமாள் என்று பேர்; அவன் குமாரனாகிய அபியாம் அவன் ஸ்தானத்தில் ராஜாவானான்.

31. Rehoboam died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. His mother was Naamah, an Ammonite. His son Abijah ruled after him.
