1. எரிகோவின் அருகே யோர்தானைச் சேர்ந்த மோவாபின் சமனான வெளிகளிலே கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

1. And the LORD spake unto Moses in the fields of Moab by Jordan Jericho saying:

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்கள் காணியாட்சியாகிய சுதந்தரத்திலே லேவியருக்குக் குடியிருக்கும்படி பட்டணங்களைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடு; அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற வெளிநிலங்களையும் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

2. command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession: cities to dwell in. And ye shall give also unto the cities of the Levites, suburbs round about them.

3. அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் அவர்கள் குடியிருப்பதற்கும், அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் அவர்களுடைய ஆடு மாடுகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய ஆஸ்திகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய சகல மிருக ஜீவன்களுக்கும் குறிக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

3. The cities shall be for them to dwell in, and the suburbs for their cattle, possession and all manner beasts of theirs.

4. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் பட்டணத்தின் மதில்தொடங்கி, வெளியிலே சுற்றிலும் ஆயிரமுழ தூரத்துக்கு எட்டவேண்டும்.

4. And the suburbs of the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city outward, a thousand cubits round about.

5. பட்டணம் மத்தியில் இருக்க, பட்டணத்தின் வெளிப்புறந்தொடங்கி, கிழக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், தெற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், வடக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் மேற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் அளந்துவிடக்கடவீர்கள்; இது அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களுக்கு வெளிநிலங்களாயிருப்பதாக.

5. And ye shall measure without the city, and make the utmost border of the east side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the south side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the west side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the north side: two thousand cubits also: and the city shall be in the midst. And these shall be the suburbs of their cities.

6. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் இருக்கவேண்டும்; கொலை செய்தவன் அங்கே தப்பி ஓடிப்போகிறதற்கு அவைகளைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்; அவைகளையல்லாமல், நாற்பத்திரண்டு பட்டணங்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

6. And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, there shall be six cities of franchise which ye shall give to that intent that he which killeth, may fly thither. And to them ye shall add forty two cities more:(mo)

7. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய பட்டணங்களெல்லாம் நாற்பத்தெட்டுப் பட்டணங்களும் அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்களுமே.

7. so that all the cities which ye shall give the Levites shall be forty eight with their suburbs.

8. நீங்கள் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சுதந்தரத்திலிருந்து அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைப் பிரித்துக் கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிகமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து அதிகமும், கொஞ்சமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து கொஞ்சமும் பிரித்துக்கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவரவர் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொண்ட சுதந்தரத்தின்படியே தங்கள் பட்டணங்களில் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

8. And of the cities which ye shall give out of the possessions of the children of Israel, ye shall give many out of their possessions that have much and few out of their possessions that have little: so that every tribe shall give of his cities unto the Levites, according to the inheritance which he inheriteth.

9. பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

9. And the LORD spake unto Moses saying:

10. நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, கானான் தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது,

10. speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them: when ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan,

11. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போட்டவன் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கத்தக்க அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாகச் சில பட்டணங்களைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்.

11. ye shall build cities which shall be privileged towns for you: that he which slayeth a man unawares, may fly thither.

12. கொலைசெய்தவன் நியாயசபையிலே நியாயம் விசாரிக்கப்படுமுன் சாகாமல், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கைக்குத் தப்பிப்போயிருக்கும்படி, அவைகள் உங்களுக்கு அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கக்கடவது.

12. And the cities shall be to flee from the executer of blood, that he which killed die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgement.

13. நீங்கள் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக இருக்கவேண்டும்.

13. And of these six free cities

14. யோர்தானுக்கு இப்புறத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும், கானான்தேசத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவைகள் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாம்.

14. which ye shall give three ye shall give on this side Jordan and three in the land of Canaan.

15. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்றவன் எவனோ, அவன் அங்கே ஓடிப்போயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, அந்த ஆறு பட்டணங்களும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கும் உங்கள் நடுவே இருக்கும் பரதேசிக்கும் அந்நியனுக்கும் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

15. And these six free cities shall be for the children of Israel and for the stranger and for him that dwelleth among you, that all they which kill any person unawares, may flee thither.

16. ஒருவன் இருப்பு ஆயுதத்தினால் ஒருவனை வெட்டினதினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், வெட்டினவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

16. If any man smite another with a weapon of iron that he die, then he is a murderer, and shall die for it.

17. ஒருவன் ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவன்மேல் எறிகிறதினாலே அவன் செத்துப்போனால் கல்லெறிந்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

17. If he smite him with a throwing stone that he die therewith, then he shall die: For he is a murderer and shall be slain therefore.

18. ஒருவன் தன் கையில் ஒரு மர ஆயுதத்தை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவனை அடித்ததினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

18. If he smite him with a hand weapon of wood that he die therewith, then he shall die: for he is a murderer and shall be slain therefore.

19. பழிவாங்கவேண்டியவனே கொலைபாதகனைக் கொல்லவேண்டும்; அவனைக் கண்டமாத்திரத்தில் அவனைக் கொன்று போடலாம்.

19. The judge(justice) of blood shall slay the murderer, as soon as he findeth him:

20. ஒருவன் பகையினால் ஒருவனை விழத்தள்ளினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிருந்து அவன் சாகத்தக்கதாய் அவன்மேல் ஏதாகிலும் எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

20. If he thrust him of hate, or hurl at him with laying of wait that he die

21. அவனைப் பகைத்து, தன் கையினால் அடித்ததினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகன்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலைபாதகனைக் கண்ட மாத்திரத்தில் கொன்றுபோடலாம்.

21. or smite him with his hand of envy that he die, he that smote him shall die, for he is a murderer. The justice of blood shall slay him as soon as he findeth him.

22. ஒருவன் பகையொன்றும் இல்லாமல் சடுதியில் ஒருவனைத் தள்ளி விழப்பண்ணினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிராமல் யாதொரு ஆயுதத்தை அவன்மேல் பட எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

22. But and if he pushed him by chance and not of hate or cast at him with any manner of thing and not of laying of wait:

23. அவனுக்குப் பகைஞனாயிராமலும் அவனுக்குத் தீங்கு செய்ய நினையாமலும் இருக்கையில், ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போடத்தக்க ஒரு கல்லினால் அவனைக்காணாமல் எறிய, அது அவன்மேல் பட்டதினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால்,

23. or cast any manner of stone at him that he die therewith, and saw him not: And he cast it upon him and he died, but was not his enemy, neither sought him any harm:

24. அப்பொழுது கொலைசெய்தவனையும் பழிவாங்குகிறவனையும் சபையார் இந்த நியாயப்படி விசாரித்து,

24. Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the executer of blood in such cases.

25. கொலைசெய்தவனைப் பழிவாங்குகிறவனுடைய கைக்குத் தப்புவித்து, அவன் ஓடிப்போயிருந்த அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு அவனைத் திரும்பப் போகும்படி செய்யக்கடவர்கள்; பரிசுத்த தைலத்தினால் அபிஷேகம் பெற்ற பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அவன் அதிலே இருக்கக்கடவன்.

25. And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the judge of blood, and shall restore him again unto the franchised city, whither he was fled. And he shall bide there unto the death of the high priest which was anointed with holy oil.

26. ஆனாலும் கொலைசெய்தவன் தான் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கிற அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்தின் எல்லையை விட்டு வெளிப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது,

26. But and if he came without the borders of his privileged city whither he was fled,

27. பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலை செய்தவனை அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு வெளியே கண்டுபிடித்துக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அவன்மேல் இரத்தப்பழி இல்லை.

27. if the blood avenger find him without the borders of his free town, he shall slay the murderer and be guiltless,

28. கொலைசெய்தவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அடைக்கலப் பட்டணத்திலிருக்கவேண்டும்; பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடைந்தபின்பு, தன் சுதந்தரமான காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகலாம்.

28. because he should have bidden in his free town until the death of the high priest, and after the death of the high priest, he shall return again unto the land of his possession.

29. இவைகள் உங்கள் வாசஸ்தலங்களிலெங்கும் உங்கள் தலைமுறைதோறும் உங்களுக்கு நியாயவிதிப் பிரமாணமாயிருக்கக்கடவது.

29. And this shall be an ordinance and a law unto you, among your children after you in all your habitations.

30. எவனாகிலும், ஒரு மனிதனைக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அப்பொழுது சாட்சிகளுடைய வாக்குமூலத்தின்படியே அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனைக் கொலைசெய்யக்கடவர்கள்; ஒரே சாட்சியைக்கொண்டுமாத்திரம் ஒரு மனிதன் சாகும்படி தீர்ப்புச்செய்யலாகாது.

30. Whosoever slayeth, shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses. For one witness shall not answer against one person to put him to death.

31. சாகிறதற்கேற்ற குற்றஞ்சுமந்த கொலைபாதகனுடைய ஜீவனுக்காக நீங்கள் மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது; அவன் தப்பாமல் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

31. Moreover ye shall take none amends for the life of the murderer which is worthy to die: But he shall be put to death.

32. தன் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போனவன் ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையாததற்கு முன்னே தன் நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிவரும்படி நீங்கள் அவனுக்காக மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது.

32. Also ye shall take none atonement for him that is fled to a free city, that he should come again and dwell in the land before the death of the high priest.

33. நீங்கள் இருக்கும் தேசத்தைப் பரிசுத்தக் குலைச்சலாக்காதிருங்கள்; இரத்தம் தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தும்; இரத்தம் சிந்தினவனுடைய இரத்தத்தினாலேயொழிய, வேறொன்றினாலும் தேசத்திலே சிந்துண்ட இரத்தத்திற்காகப் பாவநிவிர்த்தியில்லை.

33. And see that ye pollute not the land which ye are in, for blood defileth the land. And the land can none otherwise be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of it that shed it.

34. நீங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் என் வாசஸ்தலமாகிய தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தவேண்டாம்; கர்த்தராகிய நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் நடுவே வாசம்பண்ணுகிறேன் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

34. Defile not therefore the land which ye inhabit, and in the midst of which I also dwell, for I am, the LORD which dwell among the children of Israel.
