1. எரிகோவின் அருகே யோர்தானைச் சேர்ந்த மோவாபின் சமனான வெளிகளிலே கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

1. And the Lord spoke these things also to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, over against Jericho:

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்கள் காணியாட்சியாகிய சுதந்தரத்திலே லேவியருக்குக் குடியிருக்கும்படி பட்டணங்களைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடு; அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற வெளிநிலங்களையும் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

2. Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites out of their possessions,

3. அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் அவர்கள் குடியிருப்பதற்கும், அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் அவர்களுடைய ஆடு மாடுகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய ஆஸ்திகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய சகல மிருக ஜீவன்களுக்கும் குறிக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

3. Cities to dwell in, and their suburbs round about: that they may abide in the towns, and the suburbs may be for their cattle and beasts:

4. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் பட்டணத்தின் மதில்தொடங்கி, வெளியிலே சுற்றிலும் ஆயிரமுழ தூரத்துக்கு எட்டவேண்டும்.

4. Which suburbs shall reach from the walls of the cities outward, a thousand paces on every side:

5. பட்டணம் மத்தியில் இருக்க, பட்டணத்தின் வெளிப்புறந்தொடங்கி, கிழக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், தெற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், வடக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் மேற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் அளந்துவிடக்கடவீர்கள்; இது அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களுக்கு வெளிநிலங்களாயிருப்பதாக.

5. Toward the east shall be two thousand cubits: and toward the south in like manner shall be two thousand cubits: toward the sea also, which looketh to the west, shall be the same extent: and the north side shall be bounded with the like limits. And the cities shall be in the midst, and the suburbs without.

6. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் இருக்கவேண்டும்; கொலை செய்தவன் அங்கே தப்பி ஓடிப்போகிறதற்கு அவைகளைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்; அவைகளையல்லாமல், நாற்பத்திரண்டு பட்டணங்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

6. And among the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, six shall be separated for refuge to fugitives, that he who hath shed blood may flee to them: and besides these there shall be other forty-two cities,

7. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய பட்டணங்களெல்லாம் நாற்பத்தெட்டுப் பட்டணங்களும் அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்களுமே.

7. That is, in all forty-eight with their suburbs.

8. நீங்கள் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சுதந்தரத்திலிருந்து அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைப் பிரித்துக் கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிகமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து அதிகமும், கொஞ்சமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து கொஞ்சமும் பிரித்துக்கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவரவர் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொண்ட சுதந்தரத்தின்படியே தங்கள் பட்டணங்களில் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

8. And of these cities which shall be given out of the possessions of the children of Israel, from them that have more, more shall be taken: and from them that have less, fewer. Each shall give towns to the Levites according to the extent of their inheritance.

9. பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

9. The Lord said to Moses:

10. நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, கானான் தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது,

10. Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: When you shall have passed over the Jordan into the land of Chanaan,

11. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போட்டவன் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கத்தக்க அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாகச் சில பட்டணங்களைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்.

11. Determine what cities shall be for the refuge of fugitives, who have shed blood against their will.

12. கொலைசெய்தவன் நியாயசபையிலே நியாயம் விசாரிக்கப்படுமுன் சாகாமல், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கைக்குத் தப்பிப்போயிருக்கும்படி, அவைகள் உங்களுக்கு அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கக்கடவது.

12. And when the fugitive shall be in them, the kinsman of him that is slain may not have power to kill him, until he stand before the multitude, and his cause be judged.

13. நீங்கள் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக இருக்கவேண்டும்.

13. And of those cities, that are separated for the refuge of fugitives,

14. யோர்தானுக்கு இப்புறத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும், கானான்தேசத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவைகள் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாம்.

14. Three shall be beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Chanaan,

15. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்றவன் எவனோ, அவன் அங்கே ஓடிப்போயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, அந்த ஆறு பட்டணங்களும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கும் உங்கள் நடுவே இருக்கும் பரதேசிக்கும் அந்நியனுக்கும் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

15. As well for the children of Israel as for strangers and sojourners, that he may flee to them, who hath shed blood against his will.

16. ஒருவன் இருப்பு ஆயுதத்தினால் ஒருவனை வெட்டினதினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், வெட்டினவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

16. If any man strike with iron, and he die that was struck: he shall be guilty of murder, and he himself shall die.

17. ஒருவன் ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவன்மேல் எறிகிறதினாலே அவன் செத்துப்போனால் கல்லெறிந்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

17. If he throw a stone, and he that is struck die: he shall be punished in the same manner.

18. ஒருவன் தன் கையில் ஒரு மர ஆயுதத்தை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவனை அடித்ததினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

18. If he that is struck with wood die: he shall be revenged by the blood of him that struck him.

19. பழிவாங்கவேண்டியவனே கொலைபாதகனைக் கொல்லவேண்டும்; அவனைக் கண்டமாத்திரத்தில் அவனைக் கொன்று போடலாம்.

19. The kinsman of him that was slain, shall kill the murderer: as soon as he apprehendeth him, he shall kill him.

20. ஒருவன் பகையினால் ஒருவனை விழத்தள்ளினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிருந்து அவன் சாகத்தக்கதாய் அவன்மேல் ஏதாகிலும் எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

20. If through hatred any one push a man, or fling any thing at him with ill design:

21. அவனைப் பகைத்து, தன் கையினால் அடித்ததினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகன்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலைபாதகனைக் கண்ட மாத்திரத்தில் கொன்றுபோடலாம்.

21. Or being his enemy, strike; him with his hand, and he die: the striker shall be guilty of murder: the kinsman of him that was slain as soon as he findeth him, shall kill him.

22. ஒருவன் பகையொன்றும் இல்லாமல் சடுதியில் ஒருவனைத் தள்ளி விழப்பண்ணினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிராமல் யாதொரு ஆயுதத்தை அவன்மேல் பட எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

22. But if by chance medley, and without hatred,

23. அவனுக்குப் பகைஞனாயிராமலும் அவனுக்குத் தீங்கு செய்ய நினையாமலும் இருக்கையில், ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போடத்தக்க ஒரு கல்லினால் அவனைக்காணாமல் எறிய, அது அவன்மேல் பட்டதினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால்,

23. And enmity, he do any of these things,

24. அப்பொழுது கொலைசெய்தவனையும் பழிவாங்குகிறவனையும் சபையார் இந்த நியாயப்படி விசாரித்து,

24. And this be proved in the hearing of the people, and the cause be debated between him that struck, and the next of kin:

25. கொலைசெய்தவனைப் பழிவாங்குகிறவனுடைய கைக்குத் தப்புவித்து, அவன் ஓடிப்போயிருந்த அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு அவனைத் திரும்பப் போகும்படி செய்யக்கடவர்கள்; பரிசுத்த தைலத்தினால் அபிஷேகம் பெற்ற பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அவன் அதிலே இருக்கக்கடவன்.

25. The innocent shall be delivered from the hand of the revenger, and shall be brought back by sentence into the city, to which he had fled, and he shall abide there until the death of the high priest, that is anointed with the holy oil.

26. ஆனாலும் கொலைசெய்தவன் தான் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கிற அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்தின் எல்லையை விட்டு வெளிப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது,

26. If the murderer be found without the limits of the cities that are appointed for the banished,

27. பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலை செய்தவனை அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு வெளியே கண்டுபிடித்துக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அவன்மேல் இரத்தப்பழி இல்லை.

27. And be struck by him that is the avenger of blood: he shall not be guilty that killed him.

28. கொலைசெய்தவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அடைக்கலப் பட்டணத்திலிருக்கவேண்டும்; பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடைந்தபின்பு, தன் சுதந்தரமான காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகலாம்.

28. For the fugitive ought to have stayed in the city until the death of the high priest: and after he is dead, then shall the manslayer return to his own country.

29. இவைகள் உங்கள் வாசஸ்தலங்களிலெங்கும் உங்கள் தலைமுறைதோறும் உங்களுக்கு நியாயவிதிப் பிரமாணமாயிருக்கக்கடவது.

29. These things shall be perpetual, and for an ordinance in all your dwellings.

30. எவனாகிலும், ஒரு மனிதனைக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அப்பொழுது சாட்சிகளுடைய வாக்குமூலத்தின்படியே அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனைக் கொலைசெய்யக்கடவர்கள்; ஒரே சாட்சியைக்கொண்டுமாத்திரம் ஒரு மனிதன் சாகும்படி தீர்ப்புச்செய்யலாகாது.

30. The murderer shall be punished by witnesses: none shall be condemned upon the evidence of one man.

31. சாகிறதற்கேற்ற குற்றஞ்சுமந்த கொலைபாதகனுடைய ஜீவனுக்காக நீங்கள் மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது; அவன் தப்பாமல் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

31. You shall not take money of him that is guilty of blood, but he shall die forthwith.

32. தன் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போனவன் ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையாததற்கு முன்னே தன் நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிவரும்படி நீங்கள் அவனுக்காக மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது.

32. The banished and fugitives before the death of the high priest may by no means return into their own cities.

33. நீங்கள் இருக்கும் தேசத்தைப் பரிசுத்தக் குலைச்சலாக்காதிருங்கள்; இரத்தம் தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தும்; இரத்தம் சிந்தினவனுடைய இரத்தத்தினாலேயொழிய, வேறொன்றினாலும் தேசத்திலே சிந்துண்ட இரத்தத்திற்காகப் பாவநிவிர்த்தியில்லை.

33. Defile not the land of your habitation, which is stained with the blood of the innocent: neither can it otherwise be expiated, but by his blood that hath shed the blood of another.

34. நீங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் என் வாசஸ்தலமாகிய தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தவேண்டாம்; கர்த்தராகிய நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் நடுவே வாசம்பண்ணுகிறேன் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

34. And thus shall your possession he cleansed, myself abiding with you. For I am the Lord that dwell among the children of Israel.
