1. எரிகோவின் அருகே யோர்தானைச் சேர்ந்த மோவாபின் சமனான வெளிகளிலே கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

1. And the Lord said to Moses in the lowlands of Moab by Jordan at Jericho,

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்கள் காணியாட்சியாகிய சுதந்தரத்திலே லேவியருக்குக் குடியிருக்கும்படி பட்டணங்களைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடு; அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற வெளிநிலங்களையும் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

2. Give orders to the children of Israel to give to the Levites, from the heritage which is theirs, towns for themselves, with land on the outskirts of the towns.

3. அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் அவர்கள் குடியிருப்பதற்கும், அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் அவர்களுடைய ஆடு மாடுகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய ஆஸ்திகளுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய சகல மிருக ஜீவன்களுக்கும் குறிக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

3. These towns are to be their living-places, with land round them for their cattle and their food and all their beasts,

4. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்கள் பட்டணத்தின் மதில்தொடங்கி, வெளியிலே சுற்றிலும் ஆயிரமுழ தூரத்துக்கு எட்டவேண்டும்.

4. Stretching from the wall of the towns a distance of a thousand cubits all round.

5. பட்டணம் மத்தியில் இருக்க, பட்டணத்தின் வெளிப்புறந்தொடங்கி, கிழக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், தெற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும், வடக்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் மேற்கே இரண்டாயிரமுழமும் அளந்துவிடக்கடவீர்கள்; இது அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களுக்கு வெளிநிலங்களாயிருப்பதாக.

5. The measure of this space of land is to be two thousand cubits outside the town on the east, and two thousand cubits on the south and on the west and on the north, the town being in the middle. This space will be the outskirts of their towns.

6. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் இருக்கவேண்டும்; கொலை செய்தவன் அங்கே தப்பி ஓடிப்போகிறதற்கு அவைகளைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்; அவைகளையல்லாமல், நாற்பத்திரண்டு பட்டணங்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

6. And the towns which you give the Levites are to be the six safe places to which the taker of life may go in flight; and in addition you are to give them forty-two towns.

7. நீங்கள் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய பட்டணங்களெல்லாம் நாற்பத்தெட்டுப் பட்டணங்களும் அவைகளைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலங்களுமே.

7. Forty-eight towns are to be given to the Levites, all with land round them.

8. நீங்கள் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சுதந்தரத்திலிருந்து அந்தப் பட்டணங்களைப் பிரித்துக் கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிகமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து அதிகமும், கொஞ்சமுள்ளவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து கொஞ்சமும் பிரித்துக்கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவரவர் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொண்ட சுதந்தரத்தின்படியே தங்கள் பட்டணங்களில் லேவியருக்குக் கொடுக்கக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

8. And these towns are to be given out of the heritage of the children of Israel, taking the greater number from those who have much, and a smaller number from those who have little: everyone, in the measure of his heritage, is to give of his property to the Levites.

9. பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

9. And the Lord said to Moses,

10. நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, கானான் தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது,

10. Say to the children of Israel, when you have gone over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

11. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போட்டவன் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கத்தக்க அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாகச் சில பட்டணங்களைக் குறிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்.

11. Then let certain towns be marked out as safe places to which anyone who takes the life of another in error may go in flight.

12. கொலைசெய்தவன் நியாயசபையிலே நியாயம் விசாரிக்கப்படுமுன் சாகாமல், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கைக்குத் தப்பிப்போயிருக்கும்படி, அவைகள் உங்களுக்கு அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கக்கடவது.

12. In these towns you may be safe from him who has the right of punishment; so that death may not overtake the taker of life till he has been judged by the meeting of the people.

13. நீங்கள் கொடுக்கும் பட்டணங்களில் ஆறு பட்டணங்கள் அடைக்கலத்துக்காக இருக்கவேண்டும்.

13. Six of the towns which you give will be such safe places;

14. யோர்தானுக்கு இப்புறத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும், கானான்தேசத்தில் மூன்று பட்டணங்களையும் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவைகள் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாம்.

14. Three on the other side of Jordan and three in the land of Canaan, to be safe places for flight.

15. கைப்பிசகாய் ஒருவனைக் கொன்றவன் எவனோ, அவன் அங்கே ஓடிப்போயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, அந்த ஆறு பட்டணங்களும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கும் உங்கள் நடுவே இருக்கும் பரதேசிக்கும் அந்நியனுக்கும் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணங்களாய் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

15. For the children of Israel and for the man from another country who is living among them, these six towns are to be safe places, where anyone causing the death of another through error may go in flight.

16. ஒருவன் இருப்பு ஆயுதத்தினால் ஒருவனை வெட்டினதினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், வெட்டினவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

16. But if a man gives another man a blow with an iron instrument, causing his death, he is a taker of life and is certainly to be put to death.

17. ஒருவன் ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவன்மேல் எறிகிறதினாலே அவன் செத்துப்போனால் கல்லெறிந்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

17. Or if he gives him a blow with a stone in his hand, causing his death, he is a taker of life and is certainly to be put to death.

18. ஒருவன் தன் கையில் ஒரு மர ஆயுதத்தை எடுத்து, சாகத்தக்கதாக ஒருவனை அடித்ததினால் அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; கொலைபாதகன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

18. Or if he gave him blows with a wood instrument in his hands, causing his death, he is a taker of life and is certainly to be put to death.

19. பழிவாங்கவேண்டியவனே கொலைபாதகனைக் கொல்லவேண்டும்; அவனைக் கண்டமாத்திரத்தில் அவனைக் கொன்று போடலாம்.

19. He whose right it is to give punishment for blood, may himself put to death the taker of life when he comes face to face with him.

20. ஒருவன் பகையினால் ஒருவனை விழத்தள்ளினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிருந்து அவன் சாகத்தக்கதாய் அவன்மேல் ஏதாகிலும் எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

20. If in his hate he put a sword through him, or waiting secretly for him sent a spear or stone at him, causing his death;

21. அவனைப் பகைத்து, தன் கையினால் அடித்ததினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால், அடித்தவன் கொலைபாதகன்; அவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும், பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலைபாதகனைக் கண்ட மாத்திரத்தில் கொன்றுபோடலாம்.

21. Or in hate gave him blows with his hand, causing death; he who gave the death-blow is to be put to death; he is a taker of life: he whose right it is to give punishment for blood may put to death the taker of life when he comes face to face with him.

22. ஒருவன் பகையொன்றும் இல்லாமல் சடுதியில் ஒருவனைத் தள்ளி விழப்பண்ணினதினாலாயினும், பதுங்கியிராமல் யாதொரு ஆயுதத்தை அவன்மேல் பட எறிந்ததினாலாயினும்,

22. But if a man has given a wound to another suddenly and not in hate, or without design has sent something against him,

23. அவனுக்குப் பகைஞனாயிராமலும் அவனுக்குத் தீங்கு செய்ய நினையாமலும் இருக்கையில், ஒருவனைக் கொன்று போடத்தக்க ஒரு கல்லினால் அவனைக்காணாமல் எறிய, அது அவன்மேல் பட்டதினாலாயினும், அவன் செத்துப்போனால்,

23. Or has given him a blow with a stone, without seeing him, so causing his death, though he had nothing against him and no desire to do him evil:

24. அப்பொழுது கொலைசெய்தவனையும் பழிவாங்குகிறவனையும் சபையார் இந்த நியாயப்படி விசாரித்து,

24. Then let the meeting of the people be judge between the man responsible for the death and him who has the right of punishment for blood, acting by these rules:

25. கொலைசெய்தவனைப் பழிவாங்குகிறவனுடைய கைக்குத் தப்புவித்து, அவன் ஓடிப்போயிருந்த அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு அவனைத் திரும்பப் போகும்படி செய்யக்கடவர்கள்; பரிசுத்த தைலத்தினால் அபிஷேகம் பெற்ற பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அவன் அதிலே இருக்கக்கடவன்.

25. And let the people keep the man responsible for the death safe from the hands of him who has the right of punishment for blood, and send him back to his safe town where he had gone in flight: there let him be till the death of the high priest who was marked with the holy oil.

26. ஆனாலும் கொலைசெய்தவன் தான் ஓடிப்போயிருக்கிற அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்தின் எல்லையை விட்டு வெளிப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது,

26. But if ever he goes outside the walls of the safe town where he had gone in flight,

27. பழிவாங்குகிறவன் கொலை செய்தவனை அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு வெளியே கண்டுபிடித்துக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அவன்மேல் இரத்தப்பழி இல்லை.

27. And the giver of punishment, meeting him outside the walls of the town, puts him to death, he will not be responsible for his blood:

28. கொலைசெய்தவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையுமட்டும் அடைக்கலப் பட்டணத்திலிருக்கவேண்டும்; பிரதான ஆசாரியன் மரணமடைந்தபின்பு, தன் சுதந்தரமான காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகலாம்.

28. Because he had been ordered to keep inside the safe town till the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the taker of life may come back to the place of his heritage.

29. இவைகள் உங்கள் வாசஸ்தலங்களிலெங்கும் உங்கள் தலைமுறைதோறும் உங்களுக்கு நியாயவிதிப் பிரமாணமாயிருக்கக்கடவது.

29. These rules are to be your guide in judging through all your generations wherever you may be living.

30. எவனாகிலும், ஒரு மனிதனைக்கொன்றுபோட்டால், அப்பொழுது சாட்சிகளுடைய வாக்குமூலத்தின்படியே அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனைக் கொலைசெய்யக்கடவர்கள்; ஒரே சாட்சியைக்கொண்டுமாத்திரம் ஒரு மனிதன் சாகும்படி தீர்ப்புச்செய்யலாகாது.

30. Anyone causing the death of another is himself to be put to death on the word of witnesses: but the word of one witness is not enough.

31. சாகிறதற்கேற்ற குற்றஞ்சுமந்த கொலைபாதகனுடைய ஜீவனுக்காக நீங்கள் மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது; அவன் தப்பாமல் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

31. Further, no price may be given for the life of one who has taken life and whose right reward is death: he is certainly to be put to death.

32. தன் அடைக்கலப்பட்டணத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போனவன் ஆசாரியன் மரணமடையாததற்கு முன்னே தன் நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிவரும்படி நீங்கள் அவனுக்காக மீட்கும் பொருளை வாங்கக்கூடாது.

32. And no price may be offered for one who has gone in flight to a safe town, for the purpose of letting him come back to his place before the death of the high priest.

33. நீங்கள் இருக்கும் தேசத்தைப் பரிசுத்தக் குலைச்சலாக்காதிருங்கள்; இரத்தம் தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தும்; இரத்தம் சிந்தினவனுடைய இரத்தத்தினாலேயொழிய, வேறொன்றினாலும் தேசத்திலே சிந்துண்ட இரத்தத்திற்காகப் பாவநிவிர்த்தியில்லை.

33. So do not make the land where you are living unholy: for blood makes the land unholy: and there is no way of making the land free from the blood which has come on it, but only by the death of him who was the cause of it.

34. நீங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் என் வாசஸ்தலமாகிய தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தவேண்டாம்; கர்த்தராகிய நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் நடுவே வாசம்பண்ணுகிறேன் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

34. Do not make unclean the land where you are living and in which is my House: for I the Lord am present among the children of Israel.
