1. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

1. And the Lord said to Moses,

2. நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்ப்பதற்கு நீ மனிதரை அனுப்பு; ஒவ்வொரு பிதாக்களின் கோத்திரத்திலும் ஒவ்வொரு பிரபுவாகிய புருஷனை அனுப்பவேண்டும் என்றார்.

2. Send men to get knowledge about the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from every tribe of their fathers you are to send a man, every one a chief among them.

3. மோசே கர்த்தருடைய வாக்கின்படியே அவர்களைப் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து அனுப்பினான்; அந்த மனிதர் யாவரும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் தலைவர்கள்.

3. And Moses sent them from the waste land of Paran as the Lord gave orders, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

4. அவர்களுடைய நாமங்களாவன: ரூபன் கோத்திரத்தில் சக்கூரின் குமாரன் சம்முவா.

4. And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur.

5. சிமியோன் கோத்திரத்தில் ஓரியின் குமாரன் சாப்பாத்.

5. Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori.

6. யூதா கோத்திரத்தில் எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேப்.

6. Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

7. இசக்கார் கோத்திரத்தில் யோசேப்பின் குமாரன் ஈகால்.

7. Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph.

8. எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தில் நூனின் குமாரன் ஓசேயா.

8. Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, the son of Nun.

9. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தில் ரப்பூவின் குமாரன் பல்த்தி.

9. Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu.

10. செபுலோன் கோத்திரத்தில் சோதியின் குமாரன் காதியேல்.

10. Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi.

11. யோசேப்பின் கோத்திரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மனாசே கோத்திரத்தில் சூசின் குமாரன் காதி.

11. Of the tribe of Joseph, that is of the family of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi.

12. தாண் கோத்திரத்தில் கெமல்லியின் குமாரன் அம்மியேல்.

12. Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli.

13. ஆசேர் கோத்திரத்தில் மிகாவேலின் குமாரன் சேத்தூர்.

13. Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael

14. நப்தலி கோத்திரத்தில் ஒப்பேசியின் குமாரன் நாகபி.

14. Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi.

15. காத் கோத்திரத்தில் மாகியின் குமாரன் கூவேல்.

15. Of the tribe of Gad, Gevel, the son of Machi.

16. தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி மோசே அனுப்பின மனிதரின் நாமங்கள் இவைகளே: நூனின் குமாரனாகிய ஓசேயாவுக்கு யோசுவா என்று மோசே பேரிட்டிருந்தான்.

16. These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to get knowledge about the land. And Moses gave to Hoshea, the son of Nun, the name of Joshua.

17. அவர்களை மோசே கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி அனுப்புகையில், அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படித் தெற்கே போய், மலையில் ஏறி,

17. So Moses sent them to have a look at the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up into the South and into the hill-country;

18. தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அங்கே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்களோ பலவீனர்களோ, கொஞ்சம்பேரோ அநேகம்பேரோ என்றும்,

18. And see what the land is like; and if the people living in it are strong or feeble, small or great in number;

19. அவர்கள் குடியிருக்கிற தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டது, அது நல்லதோ கெட்டதோ என்றும், அவர்கள் பட்டணங்கள் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ கோட்டைகளில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ என்றும்,

19. And what sort of land they are living in, if it is good or bad; and what their living-places are, tent-circles or walled towns;

20. நிலம் எப்படிப்பட்டது அது வளப்பமானதோ இளப்பமானதோ என்றும்; அதில் விருட்சங்கள் உண்டோ இல்லையோ என்றும் பாருங்கள்; தைரியங்கொண்டிருந்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளிலே சிலவற்றைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அக்காலம் திராட்சச்செடி முதற்பழம் பழுக்கிற காலமாயிருந்தது.

20. And if the land is fertile or poor, and if there is wood in it or not. And be of good heart, and come back with some of the produce of the land. Now it was the time when the first grapes were ready.

21. அவர்கள் போய், சீன் வனாந்தரந்தொடங்கி, ஆமாத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாகிய ரேகொப்மட்டும், தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து,

21. So they went up and got a view of the land, from the waste land of Zin to Rehob, on the way to Hamath.

22. தெற்கேயும் சென்று, எபிரோன்மட்டும் போனார்கள்; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய அகீமானும் சேசாயும் தல்மாயும் இருந்தார்கள். எபிரோன் எகிப்திலுள்ள சோவானுக்கு ஏழுவருஷத்திற்குமுன்னே கட்டப்பட்டது.

22. They went up into the South and came to Hebron; and Ahiman and Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak, were living there. (Now the building of Hebron took place seven years before that of Zoan in Egypt.)

23. பின்பு, அவர்கள் எஸ்கோல் பள்ளத்தாக்குமட்டும் போய், அங்கே ஒரே குலையுள்ள ஒரு திராட்சக்கொடியை அறுத்தார்கள்; அதை ஒரு தடியிலே இரண்டு பேர் கட்டித் தூக்கிக்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள்; மாதளம் பழங்களிலும் அத்திப்பழங்களிலும் சிலவற்றைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

23. And they came to the valley of Eshcol, and cutting down a vine-branch with its grapes, two of them took it on a rod between them; and they took some pomegranates and figs.

24. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அங்கே அறுத்த திராட்சக்குலையினிமித்தம், அவ்விடம் எஸ்கோல் பள்ளத்தாக்கு என்னப்பட்டது.

24. That place was named the valley of Eshcol because of the grapes which the children of Israel took from there.

25. அவர்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து, நாற்பதுநாள் சென்றபின்பு திரும்பினார்கள்.

25. At the end of forty days they came back from viewing the land.

26. அவர்கள் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற காதேசுக்கு வந்து, மோசே ஆரோன் என்பவர்களிடத்திலும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் எல்லாரிடத்திலும் சேர்ந்து, அவர்களுக்கும் சபையார் அனைவருக்கும் சமாசாரத்தை அறிவித்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளை அவர்களுக்குக் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

26. And they came back to Moses and Aaron and all the children of Israel, to Kadesh in the waste land of Paran; and gave an account to them and to all the people and let them see the produce of the land.

27. அவர்கள் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை அனுப்பின தேசத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போய் வந்தோம்; அது பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற தேசந்தான்; இது அதினுடைய கனி.

27. And they said, We came to the land where you sent us, and truly it is flowing with milk and honey: and here is some of the produce of it.

28. ஆனாலும், அந்த தேசத்திலே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்கள்; பட்டணங்கள் அரணிப்பானவைகளும் மிகவும் பெரியவைகளுமாய் இருக்கிறது; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரரையும் கண்டோம்.

28. But the people living in the land are strong, and the towns are walled and very great; further, we saw the children of Anak there.

29. அமலேக்கியர் தென்புறமான தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; ஏத்தியரும், எபூசியரும், எமோரியரும் மலைநாட்டில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; கானானியர் கடல் அருகேயும் யோர்தானண்டையிலும் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றார்கள்.

29. And the Amalekites are in the South; and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill-country; and the Canaanites by the sea and by the side of Jordan.

30. அப்பொழுது காலேப் மோசேக்கு முன்பாக ஜனங்களை அமர்த்தி: நாம் உடனே போய் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவோம்; நாம் அதை எளிதாய் ஜெயித்துக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான்.

30. Then Caleb made signs to the people to keep quiet, and said to Moses, Let us go up straight away and take this land; for we are well able to overcome it.

31. அவனோடேகூடப் போய்வந்த மனிதரோ: நாம் போய் அந்த ஜனங்களோடே எதிர்க்க நம்மாலே கூடாது; அவர்கள் நம்மைப்பார்க்கிலும் பலவான்கள் என்றார்கள்.

31. But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.

32. நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து வந்த அந்த தேசம் தன் குடிகளைப் பட்சிக்கிற தேசம்; நாங்கள் அதிலே கண்ட ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மிகவும் பெரிய ஆட்கள்.

32. And they gave the children of Israel a bad account of the land they had been to see, saying, This land through which we went is a land causing destruction to those living in it; and all the people we saw there are men of more than common size.

33. அங்கே இராட்சதப் பிறவியான ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய இராட்சதரையும் கண்டோம்; நாங்கள் எங்கள் பார்வைக்கு வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் இருந்தோம், அவர்கள் பார்வைக்கும் அப்படியே இருந்தோம் என்று சொல்லி, இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குள்ளே தாங்கள் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து வந்த தேசத்தைக்குறித்து துர்ச்செய்தி பரம்பச்செய்தார்கள்.

33. There we saw those great men, the sons of Anak, offspring of the Nephilim: and we seemed to ourselves no more than insects, and so we seemed to them.
