1. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

1. The Lord said to Moses,

2. நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்ப்பதற்கு நீ மனிதரை அனுப்பு; ஒவ்வொரு பிதாக்களின் கோத்திரத்திலும் ஒவ்வொரு பிரபுவாகிய புருஷனை அனுப்பவேண்டும் என்றார்.

2. Send men to spy out the land of Canaan which I am going to give to the people of Israel. Send a man from each of their fathers' families, every one a leader among them.'

3. மோசே கர்த்தருடைய வாக்கின்படியே அவர்களைப் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து அனுப்பினான்; அந்த மனிதர் யாவரும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் தலைவர்கள்.

3. So Moses sent them from the desert of Paran, as the Lord had told him. All of the men were heads of the people of Israel.

4. These were their names. There was Shammua the son of Zaccur from the family of Reuben,

5. Shaphat the son of Hori from the family of Simeon,

6. யூதா கோத்திரத்தில் எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேப்.

6. Caleb the son of Jephunneh from the family of Judah,

7. இசக்கார் கோத்திரத்தில் யோசேப்பின் குமாரன் ஈகால்.

7. and Igal the son of Joseph from the family of Issachar.

8. எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தில் நூனின் குமாரன் ஓசேயா.

8. There was Hoshea the son of Nun from the family of Ephraim,

9. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தில் ரப்பூவின் குமாரன் பல்த்தி.

9. Palti the son of Raphu from the family of Benjamin,

10. செபுலோன் கோத்திரத்தில் சோதியின் குமாரன் காதியேல்.

10. Gaddiel the son of Sodi from the family of Zebulun,

11. யோசேப்பின் கோத்திரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மனாசே கோத்திரத்தில் சூசின் குமாரன் காதி.

11. and Gaddi the son of Susi from the family of Joseph, from the family of Manasseh.

12. தாண் கோத்திரத்தில் கெமல்லியின் குமாரன் அம்மியேல்.

12. There was Ammiel the son of Gemalli from the family of Dan,

13. ஆசேர் கோத்திரத்தில் மிகாவேலின் குமாரன் சேத்தூர்.

13. Sethur the son of Michael from the family of Asher,

14. நப்தலி கோத்திரத்தில் ஒப்பேசியின் குமாரன் நாகபி.

14. Nahbi the son of Vophsi from the family of Naphtali,

15. காத் கோத்திரத்தில் மாகியின் குமாரன் கூவேல்.

15. and Geuel the son of Machi from the family of Gad.

16. தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி மோசே அனுப்பின மனிதரின் நாமங்கள் இவைகளே: நூனின் குமாரனாகிய ஓசேயாவுக்கு யோசுவா என்று மோசே பேரிட்டிருந்தான்.

16. These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. But Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

17. அவர்களை மோசே கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி அனுப்புகையில், அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படித் தெற்கே போய், மலையில் ஏறி,

17. Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan. He said to them, 'Go up there into the Negev. Then go up into the hill country.

18. தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அங்கே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்களோ பலவீனர்களோ, கொஞ்சம்பேரோ அநேகம்பேரோ என்றும்,

18. See what the land is like. See if the people who live in it are strong or weak, and if they are few or many.

19. அவர்கள் குடியிருக்கிற தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டது, அது நல்லதோ கெட்டதோ என்றும், அவர்கள் பட்டணங்கள் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ கோட்டைகளில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ என்றும்,

19. Find out if the land they live in is good or bad. See if the cities they live in are open or if they have walls.

20. நிலம் எப்படிப்பட்டது அது வளப்பமானதோ இளப்பமானதோ என்றும்; அதில் விருட்சங்கள் உண்டோ இல்லையோ என்றும் பாருங்கள்; தைரியங்கொண்டிருந்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளிலே சிலவற்றைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அக்காலம் திராட்சச்செடி முதற்பழம் பழுக்கிற காலமாயிருந்தது.

20. Find out if the land is rich or poor, and if there are trees in it or not. Then try to get some of the fruit of the land.' Now this was the gathering time of the first grown grapes.

21. அவர்கள் போய், சீன் வனாந்தரந்தொடங்கி, ஆமாத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாகிய ரேகொப்மட்டும், தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து,

21. So they went up and spied out the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

22. தெற்கேயும் சென்று, எபிரோன்மட்டும் போனார்கள்; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய அகீமானும் சேசாயும் தல்மாயும் இருந்தார்கள். எபிரோன் எகிப்திலுள்ள சோவானுக்கு ஏழுவருஷத்திற்குமுன்னே கட்டப்பட்டது.

22. When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron. Anak's sons Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23. Then they came to the valley of Eshcol. They cut down a branch from there with some grapes on it. And they carried it on a long piece of wood between two men, with some pomegranates and figs.

24. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அங்கே அறுத்த திராட்சக்குலையினிமித்தம், அவ்விடம் எஸ்கோல் பள்ளத்தாக்கு என்னப்பட்டது.

24. That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of much fruit the men of Israel cut down from there.

25. அவர்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து, நாற்பதுநாள் சென்றபின்பு திரும்பினார்கள்.

25. They returned from looking over the land after forty days.

26. அவர்கள் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற காதேசுக்கு வந்து, மோசே ஆரோன் என்பவர்களிடத்திலும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் எல்லாரிடத்திலும் சேர்ந்து, அவர்களுக்கும் சபையார் அனைவருக்கும் சமாசாரத்தை அறிவித்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளை அவர்களுக்குக் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

26. And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the people of Israel in the desert of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought news to them and to all the people, and showed them the fruit of the land.

27. அவர்கள் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை அனுப்பின தேசத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போய் வந்தோம்; அது பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற தேசந்தான்; இது அதினுடைய கனி.

27. They told Moses, 'We went to the land where you sent us. It does flow with milk and honey. This is its fruit.

28. ஆனாலும், அந்த தேசத்திலே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்கள்; பட்டணங்கள் அரணிப்பானவைகளும் மிகவும் பெரியவைகளுமாய் இருக்கிறது; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரரையும் கண்டோம்.

28. But the people who live in the land are strong. The cities have walls and are very large. And we saw the children of Anak there.

29. அமலேக்கியர் தென்புறமான தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; ஏத்தியரும், எபூசியரும், எமோரியரும் மலைநாட்டில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; கானானியர் கடல் அருகேயும் யோர்தானண்டையிலும் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றார்கள்.

29. Amalek is living in the land of the Negev. The Hittites and Jebusites and Amorites are living in the hill country. And the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.'

30. அப்பொழுது காலேப் மோசேக்கு முன்பாக ஜனங்களை அமர்த்தி: நாம் உடனே போய் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவோம்; நாம் அதை எளிதாய் ஜெயித்துக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான்.

30. Then Caleb told the people in front of Moses to be quiet. And he said, 'Let us go up at once and take the land. For we are well able to take it in battle.'

31. அவனோடேகூடப் போய்வந்த மனிதரோ: நாம் போய் அந்த ஜனங்களோடே எதிர்க்க நம்மாலே கூடாது; அவர்கள் நம்மைப்பார்க்கிலும் பலவான்கள் என்றார்கள்.

31. But the men who had gone up with him said, 'We are not able to go against the people. They are too strong for us.'

32. நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து வந்த அந்த தேசம் தன் குடிகளைப் பட்சிக்கிற தேசம்; நாங்கள் அதிலே கண்ட ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மிகவும் பெரிய ஆட்கள்.

32. So they brought the people of Israel bad news about the land they had spied out, saying, 'The land we have gone to spy out is a land that destroys those who go there to live. All the people we saw in it are very large.

33. அங்கே இராட்சதப் பிறவியான ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய இராட்சதரையும் கண்டோம்; நாங்கள் எங்கள் பார்வைக்கு வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் இருந்தோம், அவர்கள் பார்வைக்கும் அப்படியே இருந்தோம் என்று சொல்லி, இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குள்ளே தாங்கள் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து வந்த தேசத்தைக்குறித்து துர்ச்செய்தி பரம்பச்செய்தார்கள்.

33. We saw the Nephilim there. (The sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim.) We looked like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.'
