1. ஞானம் தன் வீட்டைக் கட்டி, தன் ஏழு தூண்களையும் சித்திரந்தீர்த்து,

1. Wisdom hath built her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2. தன் கொழுத்த ஜந்துக்களை அடித்து, திராட்சரசத்தை வார்த்துவைத்து, தன் போஜனபந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி,

2. She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

3. தன் பணிவிடைக்காரிகளை அனுப்பி, பட்டணத்தின் உயர்ந்த மேடைகளின்மேல் நின்று கூப்பிட்டு,

3. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

4. புத்தியீனனை நோக்கி: எவன் பேதையோ அவன் இவ்விடத்தில் வரக்கடவன்.

4. Whoever {is} simple, let him turn in hither: {as for} him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

5. நீங்கள் வந்து என் அப்பத்தைப் புசித்து, நான் வார்த்த திராட்சரசத்தைப் பானம்பண்ணுங்கள்.

5. Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine {which} I have mingled.

6. பேதமையை விட்டு விலகுங்கள், அப்பொழுது பிழைத்திருப்பீர்கள்; புத்தியின் வழியிலே நடவுங்கள் என்று விளம்புகிறது.

6. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

7. பரியாசக்காரனைக் கண்டிக்கிறவன் இலச்சையடைகிறான்; துன்மார்க்கனைக் கண்டிக்கிறவன் தன்னைக் கறைப்படுத்திக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.

7. He that reproveth a scorner, getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked {man getteth} himself a blot.

8. பரியாசக்காரனைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளாதே, அவன் உன்னைப் பகைப்பான்; ஞானமுள்ளவனைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் உன்னை நேசிப்பான்.

8. Reprove not a scorner, lest he shall hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9. ஞானமுள்ளவனுக்குப் போதகம்பண்ணு, அவன் ஞானத்தில் தேறுவான்; நீதிமானுக்கு உபதேசம் பண்ணு, அவன் அறிவில் விருத்தியடைவான்.

9. Give {instruction} to a wise {man}, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just {man}, and he will increase in learning.

10. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதலே ஞானத்தின் ஆரம்பம்; பரிசுத்தரின் அறிவே அறிவு.

10. The fear of the LORD {is} the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy {is} understanding.

11. என்னாலே உன் நாட்கள் பெருகும்; உன் ஆயுசின் வருஷங்கள் விருத்தியாகும்.

11. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12. நீ ஞானியானால் உனக்கென்று ஞானியாவாய்; நீ பரியாசக்காரனானால் நீயே அதின் பயனை அநுபவிப்பாய் என்று சொல்லுகிறது.

12. If thou art wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but {if} thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear {it}.

13. மதியற்ற ஸ்திரீ வாயாடியும் ஒன்றுமறியாத நிர்மூடமுமாயிருக்கிறாள்.

13. A foolish woman {is} clamorous: {she is} simple, and knoweth nothing.

14. அவள் தன் வீட்டுவாசற்படியிலும் பட்டணத்தின் மேடைகளிலும் ஆசனம் போட்டு உட்கார்ந்து,

14. For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15. தங்கள் வழிகளை நோக்கி நேரே போகும் வழிப்போக்கரைப் பார்த்து:

15. To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16. எவன் பேதையோ அவன் இவ்விடத்தில் வரக்கடவன் என்றும்,

16. Whoever {is} simple, let him turn in hither: and {as for} him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17. மதியீனனை நோக்கி: திருட்டுத்தண்ணீர் தித்திக்கும், அந்தரங்கத்தில் புசிக்கும் அப்பம் இன்பமாயிருக்கும் என்றும் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடுகிறாள்.

17. Stolen waters are sweet, and bread {eaten} in secret is pleasant.

18. ஆயினும் மரித்தவர்கள் அவ்விடத்தில் உண்டென்றும், அவளுடைய விருந்தாளிகள் நரகபாதாளங்களில் கிடக்கிறார்களென்றும் அவன் அறியான்.

18. But he knoweth not that the dead {are} there; {and that} her guests {are} in the depths of hell.
