1. பின்னொருநாளிலே தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றான்.

1. When the day came for the heavenly beings to appear before the LORD again, Satan was there among them.

2. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார்; சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

2. The LORD asked him, 'Where have you been?' Satan answered, 'I have been walking here and there, roaming around the earth.'

3. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: நீ என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமான மனுஷனாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனுமில்லை; முகாந்தரமில்லாமல் அவனை நிர்மூலமாக்கும்படி நீ என்னை ஏவினபோதிலும், அவன் இன்னும் தன் உத்தமத்திலே உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறான் என்றார்.

3. 'Did you notice my servant Job?' the LORD asked. 'There is no one on earth as faithful and good as he is. He worships me and is careful not to do anything evil. You persuaded me to let you attack him for no reason at all, but Job is still as faithful as ever.'

4. சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: தோலுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தோலையும், தன் ஜீவனுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தனக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும், மனுஷன் கொடுத்துவிடுவான்.

4. Satan replied, 'A person will give up everything in order to stay alive.

5. ஆனாலும் நீர் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி, அவன் எலும்பையும் அவன் மாம்சத்தையும் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான்.

5. But now suppose you hurt his body---he will curse you to your face!'

6. So the LORD said to Satan, 'All right, he is in your power, but you are not to kill him.'

7. அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, யோபின் உள்ளங்கால் தொடங்கி அவன் உச்சந்தலைமட்டும் கொடிய பருக்களால் அவனை வாதித்தான்.

7. Then Satan left the LORD's presence and made sores break out all over Job's body.

8. அவன் ஒரு ஓட்டை எடுத்து, தன்னைச் சுறண்டிக்கொண்டு சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்தான்.

8. Job went and sat by the garbage dump and took a piece of broken pottery to scrape his sores.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன் மனைவி அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீர் இன்னும் உம்முடைய உத்தமத்தில் உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறீரோ? தேவனைத் தூஷித்து ஜீவனை விடும் என்றாள்.

9. His wife said to him, 'You are still as faithful as ever, aren't you? Why don't you curse God and die?'

10. அதற்கு அவன்: நீ பயித்தியக்காரி பேசுகிறதுபோலப் பேசுகிறாய்; தேவன் கையிலே நன்மையைப் பெற்ற நாம் தீமையையும் பெறவேண்டாமோ என்றான்; இவைகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு தன் உதடுகளினால் பாவஞ்செய்யவில்லை.

10. Job answered, 'You are talking nonsense! When God sends us something good, we welcome it. How can we complain when he sends us trouble?' Even in all this suffering Job said nothing against God.

11. யோபுடைய மூன்று சிநேகிதராகிய தேமானியனான எலிப்பாசும், சூகியனான பில்தாதும், நாகமாத்தியனான சோப்பாரும், யோபுக்கு நேரிட்ட தீமைகள் யாவையும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவனுக்காகப் பரிதபிக்கவும், அவனுக்கு ஆறுதல் சொல்லவும், ஒருவரோடொருவர் யோசனை பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, அவரவர் தங்கள் ஸ்தலங்களிலிருந்து வந்தார்கள்.

11. Three of Job's friends were Eliphaz, from the city of Teman, Bildad, from the land of Shuah, and Zophar, from the land of Naamah. When they heard how much Job had been suffering, they decided to go and comfort him.

12. While they were still a long way off they saw Job, but did not recognize him. When they did, they began to weep and wail, tearing their clothes in grief and throwing dust into the air and on their heads.

13. Then they sat there on the ground with him for seven days and nights without saying a word, because they saw how much he was suffering.
