1. பின்னொருநாளிலே தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றான்.

1. Then another day came for the angels to meet with the Lord. Satan was also there with them.

2. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார்; சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

2. The Lord said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' Satan answered the Lord, 'I have been roaming around the earth, going from place to place.'

3. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: நீ என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமான மனுஷனாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனுமில்லை; முகாந்தரமில்லாமல் அவனை நிர்மூலமாக்கும்படி நீ என்னை ஏவினபோதிலும், அவன் இன்னும் தன் உத்தமத்திலே உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறான் என்றார்.

3. Then the Lord said to Satan, 'Have you noticed my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him. He is a good, faithful man. He respects God and refuses to do evil. He is still faithful, even though you asked me to let you destroy, without reason, everything he has.'

4. சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: தோலுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தோலையும், தன் ஜீவனுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தனக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும், மனுஷன் கொடுத்துவிடுவான்.

4. Satan answered, 'Skin for skin! A man will give everything he has to protect himself.

5. ஆனாலும் நீர் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி, அவன் எலும்பையும் அவன் மாம்சத்தையும் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான்.

5. I swear, if you attack his flesh and bones, he will curse you to your face!'

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: இதோ, அவன் உன் கையிலிருக்கிறான்; ஆகிலும் அவன் பிராணனைமாத்திரம் தப்பவிடு என்றார்.

6. So the Lord said to Satan, 'All right, Job is in your hands, but you are not allowed to kill him.'

7. அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, யோபின் உள்ளங்கால் தொடங்கி அவன் உச்சந்தலைமட்டும் கொடிய பருக்களால் அவனை வாதித்தான்.

7. So Satan left the meeting with the Lord and gave Job painful sores all over his body, from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head.

8. அவன் ஒரு ஓட்டை எடுத்து, தன்னைச் சுறண்டிக்கொண்டு சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்தான்.

8. Job sat on the pile of ashes where he was mourning and used a piece of broken pottery to scrape his sores.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன் மனைவி அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீர் இன்னும் உம்முடைய உத்தமத்தில் உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறீரோ? தேவனைத் தூஷித்து ஜீவனை விடும் என்றாள்.

9. His wife said to him, 'Are you still holding on to your faith? Why don't you just curse God and die!'

10. அதற்கு அவன்: நீ பயித்தியக்காரி பேசுகிறதுபோலப் பேசுகிறாய்; தேவன் கையிலே நன்மையைப் பெற்ற நாம் தீமையையும் பெறவேண்டாமோ என்றான்; இவைகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு தன் உதடுகளினால் பாவஞ்செய்யவில்லை.

10. Job answered, 'You sound like one of those fools on the street corner! How can we accept all the good things that God gives us and not accept the problems?' So even after all that happened to Job, he did not sin. He did not accuse God of doing anything wrong.

11. யோபுடைய மூன்று சிநேகிதராகிய தேமானியனான எலிப்பாசும், சூகியனான பில்தாதும், நாகமாத்தியனான சோப்பாரும், யோபுக்கு நேரிட்ட தீமைகள் யாவையும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவனுக்காகப் பரிதபிக்கவும், அவனுக்கு ஆறுதல் சொல்லவும், ஒருவரோடொருவர் யோசனை பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, அவரவர் தங்கள் ஸ்தலங்களிலிருந்து வந்தார்கள்.

11. Job's three friends heard about all the bad things that happened to him, so Eliphaz came from Teman, Bildad from Shuah, and Zophar from Naamah. They met together and went to comfort Job and show him their sympathy.

12. அவர்கள் தூரத்தில் வருகையில் தங்கள் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்த்தபோது, அவனை உருத்தெரியாமல், சத்தமிட்டு அழுது, அவரவர் தங்கள் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, வானத்தைப் பார்த்து: தங்கள் தலைகள்மேல் புழுதியைத் தூற்றிக்கொண்டு,

12. But his friends didn't even recognize him when they first saw him in the distance! They began to cry loudly. They tore their clothes and threw dirt in the air over their heads to show how sad they were.

13. வந்து, அவன் துக்கம் மகாகொடிய துக்கம் என்று கண்டு, ஒருவரும் அவனோடு ஒரு வார்த்தையையும் பேசாமல், இரவு பகல் ஏழு நாள், அவனோடுகூடத் தரையிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.

13. Then they sat on the ground with Job for seven days and seven nights. They didn't say a word, because they saw he was in so much pain.
