1. யெகூவின் ஏழாம் வருஷத்தில் யோவாஸ் ராஜாவாகி, எருசலேமிலே நாற்பது வருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம் பண்ணினான்; பெயெர்செபா ஊராளாகிய அவனுடைய தாயின் பேர் சிபியாள்.

1. In the seventh year of Jehu's rule, Jehoash became king; and he was ruling for forty years in Jerusalem; his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

2. ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா யோவாசைப் போதகம்பண்ணின நாளெல்லாம் அவன் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குச் செம்மையானதைச் செய்தான்.

2. Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days, because he was guided by the teaching of Jehoiada the priest.

3. மேடைகளை மாத்திரம் அகற்றவில்லை; ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் மேடைகள்மேல் பலியிட்டுத் தூபங்காட்டி வந்தார்கள்.

3. But the high places were not taken away; the people went on making offerings and burning them in the high places.

4. யோவாஸ் ஆசாரியரை நோக்கி: பிரதிஷ்டையாக்கப்பட்ட பொருள்களாகிய கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்படுகிற எல்லாப் பணங்களையும், இலக்கத்திற்குட்படுகிறவர்களின் பணத்தையும், மீட்புக்காக மதிக்கப்படுகிற ஆட்களின் பணத்தையும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரும்படி, அவரவர் தம்தம் மனதிலே நியமித்திருக்கும் எல்லாப் பணத்தையும்,

4. And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the holy things, which comes into the house of the Lord, (the amount fixed for every man's payment,) and all the money given by any man freely from the impulse of his heart,

5. ஆசாரியர்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமானவர்கள் கையில் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு, ஆலயத்தில் எங்கெங்கே பழுது காண்கிறதோ, அங்கேயெல்லாம் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

5. Let the priests take, every man from his friends and neighbours, to make good what is damaged in the house, wherever it is to be seen.

6. ஆனாலும் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாசின் இருபத்துமூன்றாம் வருஷமட்டும் ஆசாரியர்கள் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராதேபோனபடியினால்,

6. But in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had not made good the damaged parts of the house.

7. ராஜாவாகிய யோவாஸ் ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தாவையும் மற்ற ஆசாரியர்களையும் அழைப்பித்து: நீங்கள் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராதேபோனதென்ன? இனி நீங்கள் உங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமானவர்கள் கையிலே பணத்தை வாங்காமல், அதை ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிறதற்காக விட்டுவிடுங்கள் என்றான்.

7. Then King Jehoash sent for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said to them, Why have you not made good what is damaged in the house? now take no more money from your neighbours, but give it for the building up of the house.

8. அப்பொழுது ஆசாரியர்கள் ஜனத்தின் கையிலே பணத்தை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளாமலும், ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராமலும் இருக்கிறதற்குச் சம்மதித்தார்கள்.

8. So the priests made an agreement to take no more money from the people, and not to make good what was damaged in the house.

9. ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா ஒரு பெட்டியை எடுத்து, அதின் மூடியிலே ஒரு துவாரமிட்டு, அதைப் பலிபீடத்தண்டையிலே கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் ஜனங்கள் உட்பிரவேசிக்கும் வலதுபக்கத்தில் வைத்தான்; வாசற்படியைக் காக்கிற ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட பணத்தையெல்லாம் அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

9. But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and making a hole in the cover of it, put it by the altar, on the right side when one comes into the house of the Lord; and the priests who kept the door put in it regularly all the money which was taken into the house of the Lord.

10. பெட்டியிலே மிகுந்த பணம் உண்டென்று அவர்கள் காணும்போது, ராஜாவின் சம்பிரதியும் பிரதான ஆசாரியனும் வந்து: கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட பணத்தை எண்ணி முடிப்புக்கட்டி,

10. And when they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king's scribe and the high priest came and put it in bags, noting the amount of all the money there was in the house of the Lord.

11. எண்ணின பணத்தைக் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே விசாரிப்புக்காரர் கையிலே கொடுப்பார்கள்; அதை அவர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிற தச்சருக்கும், சிற்பாசாரிகளுக்கும்,

11. And the money which was measured out they gave regularly to those who were responsible for overseeing the work, and these gave it in payment to the woodworkers and the builders who were working on the house of the Lord,

12. கொற்றருக்கும், கல்தச்சருக்கும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கத் தேவையான மரங்களையும் வெட்டின கற்களையும் கொள்ளுகிறதற்கும், ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிறதற்குச் செல்லும் எல்லாச் செலவுக்கும் கொடுப்பார்கள்.

12. And to the wall-builders and the stone-cutters, and to get wood and cut stone for building up the broken parts of the house of the Lord, and for everything needed to put the house in good order.

13. கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட பணத்தினாலே வெள்ளிக்கிண்ணங்களும், கீதவாத்தியங்களும், கலங்களும், எக்காளங்களும், பொற்பாத்திரங்களும், வெள்ளிப் பாத்திரங்களும் பண்ணப்படாமல்,

13. But the money was not used for making silver cups or scissors or basins or wind-instruments or any vessels of gold or silver for the house of the Lord;

14. கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுது பார்க்கும்படிக்கு வேலை செய்கிறவர்களுக்கே அதைக் கொடுத்தார்கள்.

14. But it was all given to the workmen who were building up the house.

15. வேலைசெய்கிறவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கும்படிக்கு, பணத்தை வரப்பற்றிக்கொண்ட மனுஷர் கையிலே கணக்குக் கேளாதிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் உண்மையாய் அதை நடப்பித்தார்கள்.

15. And they did not get any statement of accounts from the men to whom the money was given for the workmen, for they made use of it with good faith.

16. குற்றப்பிராயசித்தப் பணமும் பாவபிராயசித்தப் பணமும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்காகக் கொண்டுவரப்படவில்லை; அது ஆசாரியரைச் சேர்ந்தது.

16. The money of the offerings for error and the sin-offerings was not taken into the house of the Lord; it was the priests'.

17. அதற்குப் பின்பு சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேல் வந்து, காத்தூரின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி அதைப் பிடித்தான்; அதின் பின்பு எருசலேமுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போக ஆசகேல் தன் முகத்தைத் திருப்பினான்.

17. Then Hazael, king of Aram, went up against Gath and took it; and his purpose was to go up to Jerusalem.

18. அப்பொழுது யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாஸ், தன் பிதாக்களாகிய யோசபாத் யோராம் அகசியா என்னும் யூதாவின் ராஜாக்கள் பரிசுத்தம்பண்ணிவைத்த எல்லாவற்றையும், தான் பரிசுத்தம் பண்ணிவைத்ததையும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலும் ராஜாவின் அரமனையிலுமுள்ள பொக்கிஷங்களில் அகப்பட்ட பொன் யாவையும் எடுத்து சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேலுக்கு அனுப்பினான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் எருசலேமை விட்டுத் திரும்பிப்போனான்.

18. Then Jehoash, king of Judah, took all the holy things which Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah his fathers, the kings of Judah, had given to the Lord, together with the things he himself had given, and all the gold in the Temple store and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael, king of Aram; and he went away from Jerusalem.

19. யோவாசின் மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்களும், அவன் செய்தவை யாவும் யூதாவுடைய ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் அல்லவோ எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

19. Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all he did, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Israel?

20. யோவாசின் ஊழியக்காரர் எழும்பி கட்டுப்பாடு பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, சில்லாவுக்குப் போகிற வழியிலிருக்கிற மில்லோ வீட்டிலே அவனைக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

20. And his servants made a secret design and put Joash to death at the house of Millo on the way down to Silla.

21. சிமியாதின் குமாரன், யோசகார் சோமேரின் குமாரன் யோசபாத் என்னும் அவனுடைய ஊழியக்காரர் அவனைக் கொன்றார்கள்; இறந்துபோன அவனைத் தாவீதின் நகரத்தில் அவனுடைய பிதாக்களண்டையிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அவன் குமாரனாகிய அமத்சியா அவன் ஸ்தானத்தில் ராஜாவானான்.

21. And Jozacar, the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, the son of Shomer, his servants, came to him and put him to death; and they put him into the earth with his fathers in the town of David; and Amaziah his son became king in his place.
