1. யெகூவின் ஏழாம் வருஷத்தில் யோவாஸ் ராஜாவாகி, எருசலேமிலே நாற்பது வருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம் பண்ணினான்; பெயெர்செபா ஊராளாகிய அவனுடைய தாயின் பேர் சிபியாள்.

1. In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash became king. He ruled for forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2. ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா யோவாசைப் போதகம்பண்ணின நாளெல்லாம் அவன் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குச் செம்மையானதைச் செய்தான்.

2. Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days, because Jehoiada the religious leader taught him.

3. மேடைகளை மாத்திரம் அகற்றவில்லை; ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் மேடைகள்மேல் பலியிட்டுத் தூபங்காட்டி வந்தார்கள்.

3. But the high places were not taken away. The people still gave gifts and burned special perfume on the high places.

4. யோவாஸ் ஆசாரியரை நோக்கி: பிரதிஷ்டையாக்கப்பட்ட பொருள்களாகிய கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்படுகிற எல்லாப் பணங்களையும், இலக்கத்திற்குட்படுகிறவர்களின் பணத்தையும், மீட்புக்காக மதிக்கப்படுகிற ஆட்களின் பணத்தையும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரும்படி, அவரவர் தம்தம் மனதிலே நியமித்திருக்கும் எல்லாப் பணத்தையும்,

4. Then Joash said to the religious leaders, 'All the money of the holy things brought into the house of the Lord, money for which each man is taxed, and money that is brought in because a man wants in his heart to bring it into the house of the Lord,

5. ஆசாரியர்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமானவர்கள் கையில் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு, ஆலயத்தில் எங்கெங்கே பழுது காண்கிறதோ, அங்கேயெல்லாம் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

5. the religious leaders may take this money. Each leader should take it from those whom he knows. And they should use it to build the house again in the places where it has been broken and destroyed.

6. ஆனாலும் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாசின் இருபத்துமூன்றாம் வருஷமட்டும் ஆசாரியர்கள் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராதேபோனபடியினால்,

6. But by the twenty-third year of King Joash, the religious leaders had not put together the broken places of the house.

7. ராஜாவாகிய யோவாஸ் ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தாவையும் மற்ற ஆசாரியர்களையும் அழைப்பித்து: நீங்கள் ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராதேபோனதென்ன? இனி நீங்கள் உங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமானவர்கள் கையிலே பணத்தை வாங்காமல், அதை ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிறதற்காக விட்டுவிடுங்கள் என்றான்.

7. So King Joash called for Jehoiada the religious leader and the other religious leaders. He said to them, 'Why do you not put together the broken places of the house? Do not take any more money from those you know, but give it for the work that is needed on the house.'

8. அப்பொழுது ஆசாரியர்கள் ஜனத்தின் கையிலே பணத்தை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளாமலும், ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபாராமலும் இருக்கிறதற்குச் சம்மதித்தார்கள்.

8. So the religious leaders agreed that they should take no more money from the people. And they agreed that they should not do the work that was needed on the house.

9. ஆசாரியனாகிய யோய்தா ஒரு பெட்டியை எடுத்து, அதின் மூடியிலே ஒரு துவாரமிட்டு, அதைப் பலிபீடத்தண்டையிலே கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் ஜனங்கள் உட்பிரவேசிக்கும் வலதுபக்கத்தில் வைத்தான்; வாசற்படியைக் காக்கிற ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட பணத்தையெல்லாம் அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

9. Then Jehoiada the religious leader took a box and cut a hole in its cover. He put it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the Lord. And the religious leaders who watched the door put all the money into it that was brought into the house of the Lord.

10. பெட்டியிலே மிகுந்த பணம் உண்டென்று அவர்கள் காணும்போது, ராஜாவின் சம்பிரதியும் பிரதான ஆசாரியனும் வந்து: கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட பணத்தை எண்ணி முடிப்புக்கட்டி,

10. When they saw that there was much money in the box, the king's writer and the head religious leader came up to the house of the Lord. They found out how much money was there, and tied it up in bags.

11. எண்ணின பணத்தைக் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலே விசாரிப்புக்காரர் கையிலே கொடுப்பார்கள்; அதை அவர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிற தச்சருக்கும், சிற்பாசாரிகளுக்கும்,

11. After weighing it, they gave the money to those who watched over the work that was being done on the house of the Lord. Then these men paid the wood-workers and the builders who worked on the house of the Lord.

12. கொற்றருக்கும், கல்தச்சருக்கும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கத் தேவையான மரங்களையும் வெட்டின கற்களையும் கொள்ளுகிறதற்கும், ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிறதற்குச் செல்லும் எல்லாச் செலவுக்கும் கொடுப்பார்கள்.

12. They paid the stonecutters and those who laid the stones in place. And they bought the cut wood and stone and all that was needed for the work on the house of the Lord.

13. கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட பணத்தினாலே வெள்ளிக்கிண்ணங்களும், கீதவாத்தியங்களும், கலங்களும், எக்காளங்களும், பொற்பாத்திரங்களும், வெள்ளிப் பாத்திரங்களும் பண்ணப்படாமல்,

13. But there were no silver cups, objects to put out the lights, pots, horns, or dishes of gold or silver made for the house of the Lord. None of these were made from the money brought into the house of the Lord.

14. கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுது பார்க்கும்படிக்கு வேலை செய்கிறவர்களுக்கே அதைக் கொடுத்தார்கள்.

14. For they gave that to those who did the work. It was used to put together the broken places of the house of the Lord.

15. வேலைசெய்கிறவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கும்படிக்கு, பணத்தை வரப்பற்றிக்கொண்ட மனுஷர் கையிலே கணக்குக் கேளாதிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் உண்மையாய் அதை நடப்பித்தார்கள்.

15. And they did not ask the men who paid those who did the work how the money was spent. For they were men of honor.

16. குற்றப்பிராயசித்தப் பணமும் பாவபிராயசித்தப் பணமும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்காகக் கொண்டுவரப்படவில்லை; அது ஆசாரியரைச் சேர்ந்தது.

16. The money from the guilt gifts and sin gifts was not brought into the house of the Lord. It was for the religious leaders.

17. அதற்குப் பின்பு சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேல் வந்து, காத்தூரின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி அதைப் பிடித்தான்; அதின் பின்பு எருசலேமுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போக ஆசகேல் தன் முகத்தைத் திருப்பினான்.

17. At that time King Hazael of Syria went up and fought against Gath, and took it. Then he turned to go up to Jerusalem.

18. அப்பொழுது யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாஸ், தன் பிதாக்களாகிய யோசபாத் யோராம் அகசியா என்னும் யூதாவின் ராஜாக்கள் பரிசுத்தம்பண்ணிவைத்த எல்லாவற்றையும், தான் பரிசுத்தம் பண்ணிவைத்ததையும், கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திலும் ராஜாவின் அரமனையிலுமுள்ள பொக்கிஷங்களில் அகப்பட்ட பொன் யாவையும் எடுத்து சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேலுக்கு அனுப்பினான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் எருசலேமை விட்டுத் திரும்பிப்போனான்.

18. But Joash king of Judah took all the holy things that had been set apart by his fathers, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, kings of Judah. He took his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the storehouses of the house of the Lord and the king's house. And he sent it to Hazael king of Syria. Then Hazael went away from Jerusalem.

19. யோவாசின் மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்களும், அவன் செய்தவை யாவும் யூதாவுடைய ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் அல்லவோ எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

19. The rest of the acts of Joash and all he did are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

20. யோவாசின் ஊழியக்காரர் எழும்பி கட்டுப்பாடு பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, சில்லாவுக்குப் போகிற வழியிலிருக்கிற மில்லோ வீட்டிலே அவனைக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

20. His servants made plans against Joash, and killed him at the house of Millo on the way down to Silla.

21. சிமியாதின் குமாரன், யோசகார் சோமேரின் குமாரன் யோசபாத் என்னும் அவனுடைய ஊழியக்காரர் அவனைக் கொன்றார்கள்; இறந்துபோன அவனைத் தாவீதின் நகரத்தில் அவனுடைய பிதாக்களண்டையிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அவன் குமாரனாகிய அமத்சியா அவன் ஸ்தானத்தில் ராஜாவானான்.

21. He was killed by Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants. They buried him in the city of David. His son Amaziah became king in his place.
