1. பின்பு தாவீது கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: நான் யூதாவின் பட்டணங்கள் ஒன்றிலே போய் இருக்கலாமா என்று விசாரித்தான். அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: போ என்றார்; எவ்விடத்திற்குப் போகலாம் என்று தாவீது கேட்டதற்கு, அவர்: எப்ரோனுக்குப் போ என்றார்.

1. And it came to pass, after this, that David enquired of Yahweh, saying Shall I go up into one of the cities of Judah? And Yahweh said unto him, Go up. And David said Whither shall I go up? And he said Unto Hebron.

2. அப்படியே தாவீது தன் இரண்டு மனைவிகளாகிய யெஸ்ரயேல் ஊராளான அகினோவாமோடும், நாபாலின் மனைவியாயிருந்த கர்மேல் ஊராளான அபிகாயிலோடும் கூட அவ்விடத்திற்குப் போனான்.

2. So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess, and Abigail, wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

3. அன்றியும் தன்னோடிருந்த மனுஷரையும், அவர்கள் குடும்பங்களையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனான்; அவர்கள் எப்ரோனின் சுற்றூர்களிலே குடியேறினார்கள்.

3. His men also who were with him, did David bring up, every man with his household, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

4. அப்பொழுது யூதாவின் மனுஷர் வந்து, அங்கே தாவீதை யூதா வம்சத்தாரின்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணினார்கள். கீலேயாத்தேசத்து யாபேசின் மனுஷர் சவுலை அடக்கம்பண்ணினவர்கள் என்று அவர்கள் தாவீதுக்கு அறிவித்தபோது,

4. Then came the men of Judah, and anointed David there, to be king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, Men of Jabesh-gilead, were they who buried Saul.

5. தாவீது கீலேயாத்தேசத்து யாபேசின் மனுஷரிடத்தில் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி, நீங்கள் உங்கள் ஆண்டவனாகிய சவுலுக்கு இந்தத் தயவைச் செய்து, அவரை அடக்கம்பண்ணினபடியினாலே, கர்த்தர் உங்களை ஆசீர்வதிப்பாராக.

5. So David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said unto them Blessed, be ye of Yahweh, that ye did this lovingkindness unto your lord, unto Saul, and buried him.

6. கர்த்தர் உங்களைக் கிருபையும் உண்மையுமாய் நடத்துவாராக; நீங்கள் இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தபடியினால், நானும் இந்த நன்மைக்குத்தக்கதாக உங்களை நடத்துவேன்.

6. Now, therefore, Yahweh requite you with lovingkindness and truth, moreover also, I, will requite you, for this noble deed, in that ye did this thing.

7. இப்பொழுதும் நீங்கள் உங்கள் கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு நல்ல சேவகராயிருங்கள்; உங்கள் ஆண்டவனாகிய சவுல் மரித்தபின்பு, யூதா வம்சத்தார் என்னைத் தங்கள்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம் பண்ணினார்கள் என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

7. Now, therefore, let your hands be made firm, and become ye sons of valour, for your lord Saul is dead, and, me, moreover have the house of Judah anointed, to be king over them.

8. சவுலின் படைத்தலைவனான நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தை மகனாயீமுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்,

8. But, Abner son of Ner, prince of the host that pertained unto Saul, took Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

9. அவனைக் கீலேயாத்தின் மேலும், அஷூரியர் மேலும், யெஸ்ரயேலின் மேலும், எப்பிராயீமின் மேலும், பென்யமீனின் மேலும், இஸ்ரவேலனைத்தின் மேலும் ராஜாவாக்கினான்.

9. and made him king for Gilead, and for the Ashurites, and for Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over, all Israel.

10. சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாகிறபோது, நாற்பது வயதாயிருந்தான்; அவன் இரண்டுவருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணினான்; யூதா கோத்திரத்தார் மாத்திரம் தாவீதைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

10. Forty years old, was Ish-bosheth son of Saul, when he began to reign over Israel, and, two years, reigned he, but, the house of Judah, followed David.

11. தாவீது எப்ரோனிலே யூதா கோத்திரத்தின்மேல் ராஜாவாயிருந்த நாட்களின் இலக்கம் ஏழு வருஷமும் ஆறு மாதமுமாம்.

11. And it came to pass, that, the number of the days that David was king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, was seven years and six months.

12. நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தின் சேவகரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, மகனாயீமிலிருந்து கிபியோனுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

12. And Abner son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, came out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13. அப்பொழுது செருயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாபும் தாவீதின் சேவகரும் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், கிபியோனின் குளத்தண்டையில் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் எதிர்ப்பட்டு, குளத்திற்கு அந்தப்பக்கத்தில் அவர்களும், குளத்திற்கு இந்தப்பக்கத்தில் இவர்களும் இறங்கினார்கள்.

13. And, Joab son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out from Hebron and met, by the pool of Gibeon, together, and they sat down, these, by the pool, on the one side, and, those, by the pool, on the other side.

14. அப்னேர் யோவாபை நோக்கி: வாலிபர் எழுந்து, நமக்கு முன்பாகச் சிலம்பம்பண்ணட்டும் என்றான். அதற்கு யோவாப்: அவர்கள் எழுந்து, அப்படிச் செய்யட்டும் என்றான்.

14. Then said Abner unto Joab, Let the young men arise, I pray thee, and make sport before us. And Joab said Let them arise.

15. அப்பொழுது சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தின் பக்கத்திற்குப் பென்யமீன் மனுஷரில் பன்னிரண்டுபேரும், தாவீதுடைய சேவகரிலே பன்னிரண்டுபேரும், எழுந்து ஒரு பக்கமாய்ப் போய்,

15. Then there arose, and went over by number, twelve of Benjamin, pertaining to Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, and twelve, of the servants of David.

16. ஒருவர் தலையை ஒருவர் பிடித்து, ஒருவருடைய விலாவிலே ஒருவர் பட்டயத்தினாலே குத்தி, ஒருமிக்க விழுந்தார்கள்; அதினாலே கிபியோனிலிருக்கிற அந்த ஸ்தலம் எல்காத்அசூரிம் என்னப்பட்டது.

16. And they caught every one his fellow by the head, with his sword in his fellow's side, so they fell, together, and that place was called Helkath-hazzadim, which is in Gideon.

17. அன்றையதினம் மிகவும் கடினமான யுத்தமாகி, அப்னேரும் இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷரும் தாவீதின் சேவகரால் முறிய அடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.

17. So the battle became exceeding obstinate, on that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated before the servants of David.

18. அங்கே செருயாவின் மூன்று குமாரராகிய யோவாபும் அபிசாயும் ஆசகேலும் இருந்தார்கள்; ஆசகேல் வெளியிலிருக்கிற கலைமான்களில் ஒன்றைப்போல வேகமாய் ஓடுகிறவனாயிருந்தான்.

18. Now there were there, three sons of Zeruiah, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel, and, Asahel, was light of foot as a wild gazelle.

19. அவன் அப்னேரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து, வலதுபுறத்திலாகிலும் இடதுபுறத்திலாகிலும், அவனை விட்டு விலகாமல் துரத்திக்கொண்டுபோனான்.

19. And Asahel pursued Abner, and turned not, in going, to the right hand or to the left, from pursuing Abner.

20. அப்னேர் திரும்பிப் பார்த்து: நீ ஆசகேல் அல்லவா என்றான். அவன்: நான்தான் என்றான்.

20. Then Abner looked behind him, and said Art thou Asahel? And he said I am.

21. அப்பொழுது அப்னேர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ வலதுபக்கத்திற்காகிலும் இடதுபக்கத்திற்காகிலும் விலகி, வாலிபரில் ஒருவனைப் பிடித்து, அவனை உரிந்துகொள் என்றான்; ஆசகேலோ விடமாட்டேன் என்று தொடர்ந்துபோனான்.

21. Then Abner said to him Turn thee aside, to thy right hand, or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from pursuing him.

22. பின்னும் அப்னேர் ஆசகேலை நோக்கி: நீ என்னை விட்டுப்போ; நான் உன்னைத் தரையோடே ஏன் வெட்டவேண்டும்? பிற்பாடு உன் சகோதரனாகிய யோவாபின் முகத்திலே எப்படி விழிப்பேன் என்றான்.

22. And Abner said, yet again, unto Asahel, Turn thee aside from pursuing me, wherefore should I smite thee to the earth? how then should I lift up my face unto Joab, thy brother?

23. ஆனாலும் அவன் விலகிப்போகமாட்டேன் என்றபடியினால், அப்னேர் அவனை ஈட்டியின் பின்புற அலகினால் அவன் வயிற்றிலே குத்தினான்; ஈட்டி முதுகிலே புறப்பட்டது; அவன் அங்கேதானே விழுந்து செத்தான்; ஆசகேல் விழுந்துகிடக்கிற இடத்திலே வந்தவர்களெல்லாரும் தரித்து நின்றார்கள்.

23. Howbeit he refused to turn aside, wherefore Abner smote him with the hinder end of the spear, in the belly, that the spear came out behind him, and he fell there, and died on the spot, and so it was, that, as many as came up to the place where Asahel fell and died, stood still.

24. யோவாபும் அபிசாயும் சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்குமட்டும் அப்னேரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்; கிபியோன் வனாந்தர வழிக்கு அருகான கீயாவுக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிற அம்மா மேடுமட்டும் வந்தார்கள்.

24. Then Joab and Abishai pursued Abner, but, the sun, had gone in by the time, they, had come as far as the hill of Ammah, that overlooketh Giah, by way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

25. அப்பொழுது அப்னேரைப் பின்சென்ற பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் ஒரே படையாகக் கூடி, ஒரு மலையின் உச்சியிலே நின்றார்கள்.

25. And, when the sons of Benjamin had gathered themselves together after Abner, and become one band, and had taken their stand on the top of a certain hill,

26. அப்பொழுது அப்னேர் யோவாபைப் பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, பட்டயம் எப்போதும் சங்காரம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டுமோ, முடிவிலே கசப்புண்டாகும் என்று அறியீரோ, தங்கள் சகோதரரை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கும்படிக்கு எந்தமட்டும் ஜனங்களுக்குச் சொல்லாதிருப்பீர் என்றான்.

26. then Abner cried aloud unto Joab, and said To the uttermost, must the sword devour? Dost thou not well know that, bitter, shall it be, in the latter end? How long, then, wilt thou not bid the people turn back from pursuing their own brethren?

27. அதற்கு யோவாப்: இன்று காலமே நீர் பேசாதிருந்தீரானால் ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் சகோதரரைப் பின்தொடராமல், அப்போதே திரும்பி விடுவார்கள் என்று தேவனுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

27. Then said Joab As God liveth, surely, if thou hadst not spoken, then in the morning, the people would of themselves have gone up, every man from pursuing his brother.

28. யோவாப் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் இஸ்ரவேலைத் தொடராமலும், யுத்தம்பண்ணாமலும் நின்றுவிட்டார்கள்.

28. So Joab blew with the horn, and all the people stood still, and they neither pursued Israel further, nor fought any more.

29. அன்று ராமுழுதும் அப்னேரும் அவன் மனுஷரும் அந்தரவெளி வழியாய்ப் போய், யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, பித்ரோனை உருவநடந்து தாண்டி, மகனாயீமுக்குப் போனார்கள்.

29. And, Abner and his men, journeyed through the waste plain all that night, and crossed the Jordan, and went through all the Bithron, and entered Mahanaim.

30. யோவாப் அப்னேரைத் தொடராமல் ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் கூடிவரச்செய்தான்; தாவீதின் சேவகரில் பத்தொன்பதுபேரும் ஆசகேலும் குறைந்திருந்தார்கள்.

30. And, Joab, returned from pursuing Abner, and, when he had gathered together all the people, there were missing of the servants of David nineteen men, and Asahel;

31. தாவீதின் சேவகரோ பென்யமீனரிலும், அப்னேரின் மனுஷரிலும், முந்நூற்றறுபதுபேரை மடங்கடித்தார்கள்.

31. but, the servants of David, had smitten of Benjamin, of the men of Abner, so that three hundred and sixty men, had died.

32. அவர்கள் ஆசகேலை எடுத்து, பெத்லெகேமிலுள்ள அவனுடைய தகப்பன் கல்லறையிலே அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; யோவாபும் அவன் மனுஷரும் இராமுழுவதும் நடந்து, பொழுது விடியும்போது எப்ரோனிலே சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

32. And they carried Asahel, and buried him in the grave of his father, which was in Bethlehem, and Joab and his men journeyed all the night, and had daylight in Hebron.
