1. Some time later, David inquired of the LORD: 'Should I go to one of the towns of Judah?' The LORD answered him, 'Go.' Then David asked, 'Where should I go?' 'To Hebron,' the LORD replied.

2. So David went there with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail, the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

3. அன்றியும் தன்னோடிருந்த மனுஷரையும், அவர்கள் குடும்பங்களையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனான்; அவர்கள் எப்ரோனின் சுற்றூர்களிலே குடியேறினார்கள்.

3. In addition, David brought the men who were with him, each one with his household, and they settled in the towns near Hebron.

4. அப்பொழுது யூதாவின் மனுஷர் வந்து, அங்கே தாவீதை யூதா வம்சத்தாரின்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணினார்கள். கீலேயாத்தேசத்து யாபேசின் மனுஷர் சவுலை அடக்கம்பண்ணினவர்கள் என்று அவர்கள் தாவீதுக்கு அறிவித்தபோது,

4. Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David: 'It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.'

5. David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead and said to them, 'The LORD bless you, because you have shown this special kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.

6. Now, may the LORD show special kindness and faithfulness to you, and I will also show the same goodness to you because you have done this deed.

7. இப்பொழுதும் நீங்கள் உங்கள் கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு நல்ல சேவகராயிருங்கள்; உங்கள் ஆண்டவனாகிய சவுல் மரித்தபின்பு, யூதா வம்சத்தார் என்னைத் தங்கள்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம் பண்ணினார்கள் என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

7. Therefore, be strong and courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.'

8. சவுலின் படைத்தலைவனான நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தை மகனாயீமுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்,

8. Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Saul's son Ish-boshethand moved him to Mahanaim.

9. அவனைக் கீலேயாத்தின் மேலும், அஷூரியர் மேலும், யெஸ்ரயேலின் மேலும், எப்பிராயீமின் மேலும், பென்யமீனின் மேலும், இஸ்ரவேலனைத்தின் மேலும் ராஜாவாக்கினான்.

9. He made him king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin-- over all Israel.

10. சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாகிறபோது, நாற்பது வயதாயிருந்தான்; அவன் இரண்டுவருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணினான்; யூதா கோத்திரத்தார் மாத்திரம் தாவீதைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

10. Saul's son Ish-bosheth was 40 years old when he began his reign over Israel; he ruled for two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.

11. தாவீது எப்ரோனிலே யூதா கோத்திரத்தின்மேல் ராஜாவாயிருந்த நாட்களின் இலக்கம் ஏழு வருஷமும் ஆறு மாதமுமாம்.

11. The length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12. நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தின் சேவகரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, மகனாயீமிலிருந்து கிபியோனுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

12. Abner son of Ner and soldiers of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13. அப்பொழுது செருயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாபும் தாவீதின் சேவகரும் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், கிபியோனின் குளத்தண்டையில் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் எதிர்ப்பட்டு, குளத்திற்கு அந்தப்பக்கத்தில் அவர்களும், குளத்திற்கு இந்தப்பக்கத்தில் இவர்களும் இறங்கினார்கள்.

13. So Joab son of Zeruiah and David's soldiers marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. The two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.

14. அப்னேர் யோவாபை நோக்கி: வாலிபர் எழுந்து, நமக்கு முன்பாகச் சிலம்பம்பண்ணட்டும் என்றான். அதற்கு யோவாப்: அவர்கள் எழுந்து, அப்படிச் செய்யட்டும் என்றான்.

14. Then Abner said to Joab, 'Let's have the young men get up and compete in front of us.' 'Let them get up,' Joab replied.

15. அப்பொழுது சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தின் பக்கத்திற்குப் பென்யமீன் மனுஷரில் பன்னிரண்டுபேரும், தாவீதுடைய சேவகரிலே பன்னிரண்டுபேரும், எழுந்து ஒரு பக்கமாய்ப் போய்,

15. So they got up and were counted off-- 12 for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and 12 from David's soldiers.

16. ஒருவர் தலையை ஒருவர் பிடித்து, ஒருவருடைய விலாவிலே ஒருவர் பட்டயத்தினாலே குத்தி, ஒருமிக்க விழுந்தார்கள்; அதினாலே கிபியோனிலிருக்கிற அந்த ஸ்தலம் எல்காத்அசூரிம் என்னப்பட்டது.

16. Then each man grabbed his opponent by the head and [thrust] his sword into his opponent's side so that they all died together. So this place, which is in Gibeon, is named Field of Blades.

17. அன்றையதினம் மிகவும் கடினமான யுத்தமாகி, அப்னேரும் இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷரும் தாவீதின் சேவகரால் முறிய அடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.

17. The battle that day was extremely fierce, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by David's soldiers.

18. அங்கே செருயாவின் மூன்று குமாரராகிய யோவாபும் அபிசாயும் ஆசகேலும் இருந்தார்கள்; ஆசகேல் வெளியிலிருக்கிற கலைமான்களில் ஒன்றைப்போல வேகமாய் ஓடுகிறவனாயிருந்தான்.

18. The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was a fast runner, like one of the wild gazelles.

19. அவன் அப்னேரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து, வலதுபுறத்திலாகிலும் இடதுபுறத்திலாகிலும், அவனை விட்டு விலகாமல் துரத்திக்கொண்டுபோனான்.

19. He chased Abner and did not turn to the right or the left in his pursuit of him.

20. அப்னேர் திரும்பிப் பார்த்து: நீ ஆசகேல் அல்லவா என்றான். அவன்: நான்தான் என்றான்.

20. Abner glanced back and said, 'Is that you, Asahel?' 'Yes it is,' Asahel replied.

21. அப்பொழுது அப்னேர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ வலதுபக்கத்திற்காகிலும் இடதுபக்கத்திற்காகிலும் விலகி, வாலிபரில் ஒருவனைப் பிடித்து, அவனை உரிந்துகொள் என்றான்; ஆசகேலோ விடமாட்டேன் என்று தொடர்ந்துபோனான்.

21. Abner said to him, 'Turn to your right or left, seize one of the young soldiers, and take whatever you can get from him.' But Asahel would not stop chasing him.

22. பின்னும் அப்னேர் ஆசகேலை நோக்கி: நீ என்னை விட்டுப்போ; நான் உன்னைத் தரையோடே ஏன் வெட்டவேண்டும்? பிற்பாடு உன் சகோதரனாகிய யோவாபின் முகத்திலே எப்படி விழிப்பேன் என்றான்.

22. Once again, Abner warned Asahel, 'Stop chasing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How could I ever look your brother Joab in the face?'

23. ஆனாலும் அவன் விலகிப்போகமாட்டேன் என்றபடியினால், அப்னேர் அவனை ஈட்டியின் பின்புற அலகினால் அவன் வயிற்றிலே குத்தினான்; ஈட்டி முதுகிலே புறப்பட்டது; அவன் அங்கேதானே விழுந்து செத்தான்; ஆசகேல் விழுந்துகிடக்கிற இடத்திலே வந்தவர்களெல்லாரும் தரித்து நின்றார்கள்.

23. But Asahel refused to turn away, so Abner hit him in the stomach with the end of his spear. The spear went through his body, and he fell and died right there. When all who came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died, they stopped,

24. யோவாபும் அபிசாயும் சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்குமட்டும் அப்னேரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்; கிபியோன் வனாந்தர வழிக்கு அருகான கீயாவுக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிற அம்மா மேடுமட்டும் வந்தார்கள்.

24. but Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. By sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah, which is opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

25. அப்பொழுது அப்னேரைப் பின்சென்ற பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் ஒரே படையாகக் கூடி, ஒரு மலையின் உச்சியிலே நின்றார்கள்.

25. The Benjaminites rallied to Abner; they formed a single unit and took their stand on top of a hill.

26. அப்பொழுது அப்னேர் யோவாபைப் பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, பட்டயம் எப்போதும் சங்காரம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டுமோ, முடிவிலே கசப்புண்டாகும் என்று அறியீரோ, தங்கள் சகோதரரை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கும்படிக்கு எந்தமட்டும் ஜனங்களுக்குச் சொல்லாதிருப்பீர் என்றான்.

26. Then Abner called out to Joab: 'Must the sword devour forever? Don't you realize this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?'

27. அதற்கு யோவாப்: இன்று காலமே நீர் பேசாதிருந்தீரானால் ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் சகோதரரைப் பின்தொடராமல், அப்போதே திரும்பி விடுவார்கள் என்று தேவனுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

27. As God lives,' Joab replied, 'if you had not spoken up, the troops wouldn't have stopped pursuing their brothers until morning.'

28. யோவாப் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் இஸ்ரவேலைத் தொடராமலும், யுத்தம்பண்ணாமலும் நின்றுவிட்டார்கள்.

28. Then Joab blew the ram's horn, and all the troops stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or continued to fight.

29. அன்று ராமுழுதும் அப்னேரும் அவன் மனுஷரும் அந்தரவெளி வழியாய்ப் போய், யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, பித்ரோனை உருவநடந்து தாண்டி, மகனாயீமுக்குப் போனார்கள்.

29. So Abner and his men marched through the Arabah all that night. They crossed the Jordan, marched all morning, and arrived at Mahanaim.

30. யோவாப் அப்னேரைத் தொடராமல் ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் கூடிவரச்செய்தான்; தாவீதின் சேவகரில் பத்தொன்பதுபேரும் ஆசகேலும் குறைந்திருந்தார்கள்.

30. When Joab had turned back from pursuing Abner, he gathered all the troops. In addition to Asahel, 19 of David's soldiers were missing,

31. தாவீதின் சேவகரோ பென்யமீனரிலும், அப்னேரின் மனுஷரிலும், முந்நூற்றறுபதுபேரை மடங்கடித்தார்கள்.

31. but they had killed 360 of the Benjaminites and Abner's men.

32. அவர்கள் ஆசகேலை எடுத்து, பெத்லெகேமிலுள்ள அவனுடைய தகப்பன் கல்லறையிலே அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; யோவாபும் அவன் மனுஷரும் இராமுழுவதும் நடந்து, பொழுது விடியும்போது எப்ரோனிலே சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

32. Afterwards, they carried Asahel to his father's tomb in Bethlehem and buried him. Then Joab and his men marched all night and reached Hebron at dawn.
