1. பின்பு சீப் ஊரார் கிபியாவிலிருக்கிற சவுலிடத்தில் வந்து: தாவீது எஷிமோனுக்கு எதிரான ஆகிலாமேட்டில் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான் என்றார்கள்.

1. And Zipheis camen to Saul in to Gabaa, and seiden, Lo! Dauid is hidde in the hille of Achille, which is `euene ayens the wildirnesse.

2. அப்பொழுது சவுல்: சீப் வனாந்தரத்திலே தாவீதைத் தேடும்படி எழுந்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட மூவாயிரம்பேரோடுங்கூட, சீப் வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

2. And Saul roos, and yede doun in to deseert of Ziph, and with hym thre thousynde of men of the chosun of Israel, that he schulde seke Dauid in the desert of Ziph.

3. சவுல் எஷிமோனுக்கு எதிரே வழியண்டையிலிருக்கிற ஆகிலாமேட்டிலே பாளயமிறங்கினான்; தாவீது வனாந்தரத்தில் தங்கி, சவுல் தன்னைத் தொடர்ந்து வனாந்தரத்திற்கு வருகிறதைக் கண்டு,

3. And Saul settide tentis in Gabaa of Achille, that was euen ayens the wildirnesse in the weie. Sotheli Dauid dwellide in deseert. Forsothe Dauid siy that Saul hadde come aftir hym in to deseert;

4. தாவீது வேவுகாரரை அனுப்பி, சவுல் வந்தது நிச்சயம் என்று அறிந்துகொண்டான்.

4. and Dauid sente aspieris, and lernede moost certeynli, that Saul hadde come thidur.

5. பின்பு தாவீது எழுந்து, சவுல் பாளயமிறங்கின இடத்திற்குப் போய், சவுலும் நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் என்னும் அவன் படைத்தலைவனும் படுத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிற இடத்தைப் பார்த்தான்; சவுல் இரதங்களிருக்கிற இடத்திலே படுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; ஜனங்கள் அவனைச் சுற்றிலும் பாளயமிறங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.

5. And Dauid roos priueli, and cam to the place where Saul was. And whanne Dauid hadde seyn the place, wher ynne Saul slepte, and Abner, the sone of Ner, the prince of his chyualrye, and Saul slepynge in the tente, and the tother comyn puple bi his cumpas, Dauid seide to Achymelech,

6. தாவீது ஏத்தியனாகிய அகிமெலேக்கையும், செருயாவின் குமாரனும் யோவாபின் சகோதரனுமாகிய அபிசாயையும் பார்த்து: என்னோடேகூடச் சவுலிடத்திற்குப் பாளயத்தில் இறங்கிவருகிறவன் யார் என்றதற்கு, அபிசாய்: நான் உம்மோடேகூட வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

6. Ethey, and to Abisai, sone of Saruye, the brother of Joab, `and seide, Who schal go doun with me to Saul in to `the castels? And Abisai seide, Y schal go doun with thee.

7. அப்படியே தாவீதும் அபிசாயும் இராத்திரியிலே அந்த ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே வந்தார்கள்; இதோ, சவுல் இரதங்களிருக்கிற இடத்திலே படுத்து நித்திரைபண்ணினான்; அவன் தலைமாட்டில் அவனுடைய ஈட்டி நிலத்திலே குத்தியிருந்தது; அவனைச் சுற்றிலும் அப்னேரும் ஜனங்களும் படுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

7. Therfor Dauid and Abisai camen to the puple in the nyyt, and thei founden Saul lyggynge and slepynge in `the tente, and a spere sette faste in the erthe at his heed; `forsothe thei founden Abner and the puple slepynge in his cumpas.

8. அப்பொழுது அபிசாய் தாவீதைப் பார்த்து: இன்று தேவன் உம்முடைய சத்துருவை உம்முடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; இப்போதும் நான் அவனை ஈட்டியினால் இரண்டு குத்தாகக் குத்தாமல், ஒரே குத்தாக நிலத்தில் உருவக் குத்தட்டுமா என்றான்.

8. And Abisay seide to Dauid, God hath closid to dai thin enemy in to thin hondis; now therfor Y schal peerse hym with a spere onys in the erthe, and `no nede schal be the secounde tyme.

9. தாவீது அபிசாயைப் பார்த்து: அவரைக் கொல்லாதே; கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணுவித்தவர்மேல் தன் கையைப் போட்டு, குற்றமில்லாமற்போகிறவன் யார்? என்று சொன்னான்.

9. And Dauid seide to Abysai, Sle thou not hym, for who schal holde forth his hond into the crist of the Lord, and schal be innocent?

10. பின்னும் தாவீது: கர்த்தர் அவரை அடித்து, அல்லது அவருடைய காலம் வந்து, அவர் மரித்து, அல்லது அவர் யுத்தத்திற்குப் போய் மாண்டாலொழிய,

10. And Dauid seide, The Lord lyueth, for no but the Lord smyte hym, ether his dai come that he die, ether he go doun in to batel and perische;

11. நான் என் கையைக் கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணுவித்தவர்மேல் போடாதபடிக்கு, கர்த்தர் என்னைக் காக்கக்கடவர் என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; இப்போதும் அவர் தலைமாட்டில் இருக்கிற ஈட்டியையும், தண்ணீர்ச்செம்பையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போவோம் என்றான்.

11. the Lord be merciful to me, that Y holde not forth myn hond in to the crist of the Lord; now therfor take thou the spere, which is at his heed, and `take thou the cuppe of watir, and go we awei.

12. தாவீது சவுலின் தலைமாட்டில் இருந்த ஈட்டியையும், தண்ணீர்ச்செம்பையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டபின்பு, புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; அதை ஒருவரும் காணவில்லை, அறியவுமில்லை, ஒருவரும் விழித்துக்கொள்ளவுமில்லை; கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்கு அயர்ந்த நித்திரை வருவித்ததினால், அவர்களெல்லாரும் தூங்கினார்கள்.

12. Dauid took the spere, and the cuppe of watir, that was at the heed of Saul, and thei yeden forth, and no man was that siy, and vndirstood, and wakide, but alle men slepten; for the sleep of the Lord `hadde feld on hem.

13. தாவீது கடந்து, அந்தப் பக்கத்திற்குப் போய், தங்களுக்கும் அவர்களுக்கும் நடுவே போந்த இடமுண்டாக, தூரத்திலிருக்கிற மலையின் கொடுமுடியிலே,

13. And whanne Dauid hadde passid euene ayens, and hadde stonde on the cop of the hil afer, and a greet space was bitwixe hem,

14. ஜனங்களுக்கும் நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேருக்கும் நேராக நின்று கூப்பிட்டு: அப்னேரே, உத்தரவு சொல்லமாட்டீரா என்றான்; அதற்கு அப்னேர்: ராஜாவுக்கு நேராகக் கூக்குரலிடுகிற நீ யார் என்றான்.

14. Dauid criede to the puple, and to Abner, the sone of Ner, and seide, Abner, whether thou schalt not answere? And Abner answeride, and seide, Who art thou, that criest, and disesist the kyng?

15. அப்பொழுது தாவீது அப்னேரை நோக்கி: நீர் வீரன் அல்லவா? இஸ்ரவேலில் உமக்குச் சரியானவன் யார்? பின்னை நீர் உம்முடைய ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவைக் காக்காமற்போனதென்ன? ஜனத்தில் ஒருவன் உம்முடைய ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவைக் கொல்லும்படி வந்திருந்தானே.

15. And Dauith seide to Abner, Whether thou art not a man, and what other man is lijk thee in Israel? whi therfor `kepist thou not thi lord the kyng? `For o man of the cumpanye entride, that he schulde sle thi lord the kyng;

16. நீர் செய்த இந்தக் காரியம் நல்லதல்ல; கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணின உங்கள் ஆண்டவனை நீங்கள் காக்காமற்போனபடியினால், நீங்கள் மரணத்திற்குப் பாத்திரவான்கள்; இப்போதும் ராஜாவின் தலைமாட்டில் இருந்த அவருடைய ஈட்டியும் தண்ணீர்ச்செம்பும் எங்கே என்று பாரும் என்றான்.

16. this that thou hast doon, is not good; the Lord lyueth, for ye ben sones of deeth, that kepten not youre lord, the crist of the Lord. Now therfor se thou, where is the spere of the kyng, and where is the cuppe of watir, that weren at his heed.

17. அப்பொழுது சவுல்: தாவீதின் சத்தத்தை அறிந்து, என் குமாரனாகிய தாவீதே, இது உன் சத்தமல்லவா என்றான். அதற்குத் தாவீது: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, இது என் சத்தந்தான் என்று சொல்லி,

17. Forsothe Saul knew the vois of Dauid, and seide, Whether this vois is thin, my sone Dauid? And Dauid seide, My lord the kyng, it is my vois.

18. பின்னும்: என் ஆண்டவனாகிய நீர் உம்முடைய அடியானை இப்படிப் பின் தொடருகிறது என்ன? நான் என்ன செய்தேன்? என்னிடத்தில் என்ன பொல்லாப்பு இருக்கிறது?

18. And Dauid seide, For what cause pursueth my lord his seruaunt? What haue Y do, ether what yuel is in myn hond? Now therfor,

19. இப்பொழுது ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் தம்முடைய அடியானுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்பாராக; கர்த்தர் உம்மை எனக்கு விரோதமாக எடுத்துவிட்டதுண்டானால், அதற்கு அவர் காணிக்கையை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வாராக; மனுப்புத்திரர் அதைச் செய்தார்களேயாகில், அவர்கள் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாகச் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள்; அவர்கள்: நீ போய்; அந்நிய தேவர்களைச் சேவி என்று சொல்லி, அவர்கள் இன்று என்னைக் கர்த்தருடைய சுதந்தரத்திற்கு அடுத்தவனாயிராதபடிக்கு துரத்திவிட்டார்களே.

19. my lord the kyng, Y preye, here the wordis of thi seruaunt; if the Lord stirith thee ayens me, the sacrifice be smellid; forsothe if sones of men stiren thee, thei ben cursid in the siyt of the Lord, whiche han cast me out `to dai, that Y dwelle not in the erytage of the Lord, and seien, Go thou, serue thou alien goddis.

20. இப்போதும் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் என் இரத்தம் தரையில் விழாதிருப்பதாக; மலைகளில் ஒரு கவுதாரியை வேட்டையாடுகிறதுபோல, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா ஒரு தெள்ளுப்பூச்சியைத் தேடவந்தாரோ என்றான்.

20. And now my blood be not sched out in the erthe bifor the Lord; for the kyng of Israel yede out, that he seke a quike fle, as a partrich is pursuede in hillis.

21. அப்பொழுது சவுல்: நான் பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; என் குமாரனாகிய தாவீதே, திரும்பி வா; என் ஜீவன் இன்றையதினம் உன் பார்வைக்கு அருமையாயிருந்தபடியால், இனி உனக்கு ஒரு பொல்லாப்புஞ் செய்யேன்; இதோ, நான் மதியற்றவனாய் மகா பெரிய தப்பிதஞ்செய்தேன் என்றான்.

21. And Saul seide, Y synnede; turne ayen, my sone Dauid, for Y schal no more do yuel to thee, for my lijf was precious to day in thin iyen; for it semeth, that Y dide folili, and Y vnknew ful many thingis.

22. அதற்குத் தாவீது: இதோ, ராஜாவின் ஈட்டி இங்கே இருக்கிறது; வாலிபரில் ஒருவன் இப்புறம் வந்து, அதை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு போகட்டும்.

22. And Dauid answeride and seide, Lo! the spere of the kyng, oon of the `children of the kyng passe, and take it; forsothe the Lord schal yelde to ech man bi his riytfulnesse and feith;

23. கர்த்தர் அவனவனுக்கு அவனவன் நீதிக்கும் உண்மைக்கும் தக்கதாகப் பலன் அளிப்பாராக; இன்று கர்த்தர் உம்மை என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்திருந்தும், கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணினவர்மேல், என் கையை நீட்ட மனதில்லாதிருந்தேன்.

23. for the Lord bitook thee to dai in to myn hond, and Y nolde holde forth myn hond in to the crist of the Lord;

24. இதோ, உம்முடைய ஜீவன் இன்றையதினம் என் பார்வைக்கு எப்படி அருமையாயிருந்ததோ, அப்படியே என் ஜீவனும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்கு அருமையாயிருப்பதினால், அவர் என்னை எல்லா உபத்திரவத்திற்கும் நீங்கலாக்கி விடுவாராக என்றான்.

24. and as thi lijf is magnified to dai in myn iyen, so my lijf be magnyfied in the iyen of the Lord, and delyuere he me fro al angwisch.

25. அப்பொழுது சவுல் தாவீதை நோக்கி: என் குமாரனாகிய தாவீதே, நீ ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவன்; நீ பெரிய காரியங்களைச் செய்வாய், மேன்மேலும் பலப்படுவாய் என்றான்; அப்படியே தாவீது தன் வழியே போனான்; சவுலும் தன் ஸ்தானத்திற்குத் திரும்பினான்.

25. Therfor Saul seide to Dauid, Blessid be thou, my sone Dauid; and sotheli thou doynge schalt do, and thou myyti schalt be myyti. Therfor Dauid yede in to his weie, and Saul turnede ayen in to his place.
