1. சவுல் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணி, ஒரு வருஷமாயிற்று; அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை இரண்டாம் வருஷம் அரசாண்டபோது,

1. Saul was thirty years old when he began to reign; and, when he had reigned two years over Israel,

2. இஸ்ரவேலில் மூவாயிரம்பேரைத் தனக்குத் தெரிந்துகொண்டான்; அவர்களில் இரண்டாயிரம்பேர் சவுலோடேகூட மிக்மாசிலும் பெத்தேல் மலையிலும், ஆயிரம்பேர் யோனத்தானோடேகூடப் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவிலும் இருந்தார்கள்; மற்ற ஜனங்களை அவரவர் கூடாரங்களுக்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

2. Saul chose him three thousand men out of Israel, of whom there were with Saul, two thousand in Michmash and in the hill-country of Bethel, and, a thousand, were with Jonathan, in Gibeah of Benjamin, but, the rest of the people, he let go, every man to his own home.

3. யோனத்தான் கேபாவிலே தாணையம் இருந்த பெலிஸ்தரை முறிய அடித்தான்; பெலிஸ்தர் அதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள்; ஆகையினால் இதை எபிரெயர் கேட்கக்கடவர்கள் என்று சவுல் தேசமெங்கும் எக்காளம் ஊதுவித்தான்.

3. Then did Jonathan smite the garrison of Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it, and, Saul, blew with a horn throughout all the land saying, Let the Hebrews hear!

4. தாணையம் இருந்த பெலிஸ்தரைச் சவுல் முறிய அடித்தான் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலர் பெலிஸ்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானார்கள் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலெல்லாம் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, ஜனங்கள் சவுலுக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி கில்காலுக்கு வரவழைக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.

4. And, all Israel, heard say Saul hath smitten the garrison of the Philistines, Moreover, also, Israel have made themselves odious among the Philistines, so the people were called together to follow Saul, to Gilgal.

5. பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணும்படி முப்பதினாயிரம் இரதங்களோடும், ஆறாயிரம் குதிரைவீரரோடும், கடற்கரை மணலத்தனை ஜனங்களோடும் கூடிக்கொண்டுவந்து, பெத்தாவேலுக்குக் கிழக்கான மிக்மாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

5. And, the Philistines, gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, a people also like the sand that is on the sea-shore for multitude, and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, east of Beth-aven.

6. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் தங்களுக்கு உண்டான இக்கட்டைக் கண்டபோது, ஜனங்கள் தங்களுக்கு உண்டான நெருக்கத்தினாலே கெபிகளிலும், முட்காடுகளிலும், கன்மலைகளிலும், துருக்கங்களிலும், குகைகளிலும் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

6. So, the men of Israel, saw they were in a strait, for the people had been harassed, and the people had hidden themselves in caves, and in thickets, and among cliffs, and in holes, and in pits.

7. எபிரெயரில் சிலர் யோர்தானையும் கடந்து, காத் நாட்டிற்கும் கீலேயாத் தேசத்திற்கும் போனார்கள்; சவுலோ இன்னும் கில்காலில் இருந்தான்; சகல ஜனங்களும் பயந்துகொண்டு அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

7. And, Hebrews, had passed over the Jordan, to the land of Gad, and Gilead, but, Saul, was yet in Gilgal, and all the people, trembled after him.

8. அவன் தனக்குச் சாமுவேல் குறித்தகாலத்தின்படி ஏழுநாள்மட்டும் காத்திருந்தான்; சாமுவேல் கில்காலுக்கு வரவில்லை, ஜனங்கள் அவனை விட்டுச் சிதறிப்போனார்கள்.

8. And he waited seven days, by the set time that Samuel had named, but Samuel came not to Gilgal, and the people were scattered from him.

9. அப்பொழுது சவுல்: சர்வாங்கதகனபலியையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலியைச் செலுத்தினான்.

9. Then said Saul, Bring near unto me, the ascending-sacrifice and the peace-offerings. And he offered up the ascending-sacrifice.

10. அவன் சர்வாங்கதகனபலியிட்டு முடிகிறபோது, இதோ, சாமுவேல் வந்தான்; சவுல் அவனைச் சந்தித்து வந்தனஞ்செய்ய அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு போனான்.

10. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of offering up the ascending-sacrifice, lo! Samuel, had come, and Saul went out to meet him, that he might bless him.

11. நீர் செய்தது என்ன என்று சாமுவேல் கேட்டதற்கு, சவுல்: ஜனங்கள் என்னைவிட்டுச் சிதறிப்போகிறதையும், குறித்த நாட்களின் திட்டத்திலே நீர் வராததையும், பெலிஸ்தர் மிக்மாசிலே கூடிவந்திருக்கிறதையும், நான் கண்டபடியினாலே,

11. Then said Samuel What hast thou done? And Saul said Because I saw that the people had been scattered from me, and, thou, hadst not come within the appointed days, and, the Philistines, had gathered themselves together to Michmash,

12. கில்காலில் பெலிஸ்தர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் வந்துவிடுவார்கள் என்றும், நான் இன்னும் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணவில்லை என்றும், எண்ணித் துணிந்து, சர்வாங்க தகனபலியைச் செலுத்தினேன் என்றான்.

12. therefore I said Now, will the Philistines come down against me, at Gilgal, but, the face of Yahweh, have I not appeased: So I forced myself, and offered up the ascending-sacrifice.

13. சாமுவேல் சவுலைப் பார்த்து: புத்தியீனமாய்ச் செய்தீர்; உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விதித்த கட்டளையைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமற்போனீர்; மற்றப்படி கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் உம்முடைய ராஜ்யபாரத்தை என்றைக்கும் ஸ்திரப்படுத்துவார்.

13. And Samuel said unto Saul Thou hast shewn thyself foolish, thou hast not kept the commandment of Yahweh thy God, which he commanded thee, for, now, would Yahweh have established thy kingdom unto Israel until times age-abiding;

14. இப்போதோ உம்முடைய ராஜ்யபாரம் நிலைநிற்காது; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய இருதயத்திற்கு ஏற்ற ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தமக்குத் தேடி, அவனைக் கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஜனங்கள்மேல் தலைவனாயிருக்கக் கட்டளையிட்டார்; கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விதித்த கட்டளையை நீர் கைக்கொள்ளவில்லையே என்று சொன்னான்.

14. Whereas, now, shall thy kingdom not be established, Yahweh hath sought out for him a man after his own heart, and Yahweh hath commanded him to be leader over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Yahweh commanded thee.

15. சாமுவேல் எழுந்திருந்து, கில்காலைவிட்டு, பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவுக்குப் போனான்; சவுல் தன்னோடேகூட இருக்கிற ஜனத்தைத் தொகை பார்க்கிறபோது, ஏறக்குறைய அறுநூறுபேர் இருந்தார்கள்.

15. And Samuel arose, and ascended from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people who were found with him, about six hundred men.

16. சவுலும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானும் அவர்களோடேகூட இருக்கிற ஜனங்களும் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவில் இருந்துவிட்டார்கள்; பெலிஸ்தரோ மிக்மாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.

16. Now, Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were found with him, were abiding in Geba of Benjamin, but, the Philistines, had encamped in Michmash.

17. கொள்ளைக்காரர் பெலிஸ்தரின் பாளயத்திலிருந்து மூன்று படையாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தார்கள்; ஒரு படை ஒப்ரா வழியாய்ச் சூவால் நாட்டிற்கு நேராகப்போயிற்று.

17. And the spoilers came forth out of the camp of the Philistines, in three companies, the first company, turned unto the way of Ophrah, unto the land of Shual;

18. வேறொரு படை பெத்தொரோன் வழியாய்ப் போயிற்று; வேறொரு படை வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற செபோயீமின் பள்ளத்தாக்குக்கு எதிரான எல்லைவழியாய்ப் போயிற்று.

18. and, the second company, turned unto the way of Beth-horon, and, the third company, turned unto the way of the boundary that overlooketh the valley of Zeboim, towards the wilderness.

19. எபிரெயர் பட்டயங்களையாகிலும் ஈட்டிகளையாகிலும் உண்டுபண்ணாதபடிக்குப் பார்த்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று பெலிஸ்தர் சொல்லியிருந்தபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்தில் எங்கும் ஒரு கொல்லன் அகப்படவில்லை.

19. Now, a smith, could not be found, throughout all the land of Israel for the Philistines had said, Lest the Hebrews make sword or spear.

20. இஸ்ரவேலர் யாவரும் அவரவர் தங்கள் கொழுவிரும்புகளையும், தங்கள் மண்வெட்டிகளையும், தங்கள் கோடரிகளையும், தங்கள் கடப்பாரைகளையும் தீட்டிக் கூர்மையாக்குகிறதற்கு, பெலிஸ்தரிடத்துக்குப் போகவேண்டியதாயிருந்தது.

20. So all Israel went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his mattock, and his axe, and his sickle.

21. கடப்பாரைகளையும், மண்வெட்டிகளையும், முக்கூருள்ள ஆயுதங்களையும், கோடரிகளையும், தாற்றுக்கோல்களையும் கூர்மையாக்குகிறதற்கு அரங்கள் மாத்திரம் அவர்களிடத்தில் இருந்தது.

21. Howbeit they had a file for the sickles, and the mattocks, and the three-pronged forks, and the axes, and for setting the goads.

22. யுத்தநாள் வந்தபோது, சவுலுக்கும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானுக்குமேயன்றி, சவுலோடும் யோனத்தானோடும் இருக்கிற ஜனங்களில் ஒருவர் கையிலும் பட்டயமும் ஈட்டியும் இல்லாதிருந்தது.

22. Thus would it come to pass, in the day of battle, that there was found neither sword nor spear, in the hand of any of the people, that were with Saul and Jonathan, but such were found belonging to Saul and to Jonathan his son.

23. பெலிஸ்தரின் பாளயம் மிக்மாசிலிருந்து போகிற வழிமட்டும் பரம்பியிருந்தது.

23. Now the garrison of the Philistines had come out to the pass of Michmash.
