1. சவுல் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணி, ஒரு வருஷமாயிற்று; அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை இரண்டாம் வருஷம் அரசாண்டபோது,

1. Sha'ul was forty years old when he began to reign; and when he had reigned two years over Yisra'el,

2. இஸ்ரவேலில் மூவாயிரம்பேரைத் தனக்குத் தெரிந்துகொண்டான்; அவர்களில் இரண்டாயிரம்பேர் சவுலோடேகூட மிக்மாசிலும் பெத்தேல் மலையிலும், ஆயிரம்பேர் யோனத்தானோடேகூடப் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவிலும் இருந்தார்கள்; மற்ற ஜனங்களை அவரவர் கூடாரங்களுக்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

2. Sha'ul chose him three thousand men of Yisra'el, whereof two thousand were with Sha'ul in Mikhmash and in the Mount of Beit-El, and one thousand were with Yonatan in Gevah of Binyamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

3. யோனத்தான் கேபாவிலே தாணையம் இருந்த பெலிஸ்தரை முறிய அடித்தான்; பெலிஸ்தர் அதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள்; ஆகையினால் இதை எபிரெயர் கேட்கக்கடவர்கள் என்று சவுல் தேசமெங்கும் எக்காளம் ஊதுவித்தான்.

3. Yonatan struck the garrison of the Pelishtim that was in Geva: and the Pelishtim heard of it. Sha'ul blew the shofar throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

4. தாணையம் இருந்த பெலிஸ்தரைச் சவுல் முறிய அடித்தான் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலர் பெலிஸ்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானார்கள் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலெல்லாம் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, ஜனங்கள் சவுலுக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி கில்காலுக்கு வரவழைக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.

4. All Yisra'el heard say that Sha'ul had struck the garrison of the Pelishtim, and also that Yisra'el was had in abomination with the Pelishtim. The people were gathered together after Sha'ul to Gilgal.

5. பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணும்படி முப்பதினாயிரம் இரதங்களோடும், ஆறாயிரம் குதிரைவீரரோடும், கடற்கரை மணலத்தனை ஜனங்களோடும் கூடிக்கொண்டுவந்து, பெத்தாவேலுக்குக் கிழக்கான மிக்மாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

5. The Pelishtim assembled themselves together to fight with Yisra'el, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Mikhmash, eastward of Beit-Aven.

6. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் தங்களுக்கு உண்டான இக்கட்டைக் கண்டபோது, ஜனங்கள் தங்களுக்கு உண்டான நெருக்கத்தினாலே கெபிகளிலும், முட்காடுகளிலும், கன்மலைகளிலும், துருக்கங்களிலும், குகைகளிலும் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

6. When the men of Yisra'el saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits.

7. எபிரெயரில் சிலர் யோர்தானையும் கடந்து, காத் நாட்டிற்கும் கீலேயாத் தேசத்திற்கும் போனார்கள்; சவுலோ இன்னும் கில்காலில் இருந்தான்; சகல ஜனங்களும் பயந்துகொண்டு அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

7. Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Yarden to the land of Gad and Gil`ad; but as for Sha'ul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

8. அவன் தனக்குச் சாமுவேல் குறித்தகாலத்தின்படி ஏழுநாள்மட்டும் காத்திருந்தான்; சாமுவேல் கில்காலுக்கு வரவில்லை, ஜனங்கள் அவனை விட்டுச் சிதறிப்போனார்கள்.

8. He stayed seven days, according to the set time that Shemu'el had appointed: but Shemu'el didn't come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

9. அப்பொழுது சவுல்: சர்வாங்கதகனபலியையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலியைச் செலுத்தினான்.

9. Sha'ul said, Bring here the burnt offering to me, and the peace-offerings. He offered the burnt offering.

10. அவன் சர்வாங்கதகனபலியிட்டு முடிகிறபோது, இதோ, சாமுவேல் வந்தான்; சவுல் அவனைச் சந்தித்து வந்தனஞ்செய்ய அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு போனான்.

10. It came to pass that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Shemu'el came; and Sha'ul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.

11. நீர் செய்தது என்ன என்று சாமுவேல் கேட்டதற்கு, சவுல்: ஜனங்கள் என்னைவிட்டுச் சிதறிப்போகிறதையும், குறித்த நாட்களின் திட்டத்திலே நீர் வராததையும், பெலிஸ்தர் மிக்மாசிலே கூடிவந்திருக்கிறதையும், நான் கண்டபடியினாலே,

11. Shemu'el said, What have you done? Sha'ul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you didn't come within the days appointed, and that the Pelishtim assembled themselves together at Mikhmash;

12. கில்காலில் பெலிஸ்தர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் வந்துவிடுவார்கள் என்றும், நான் இன்னும் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணவில்லை என்றும், எண்ணித் துணிந்து, சர்வாங்க தகனபலியைச் செலுத்தினேன் என்றான்.

12. therefore said I, Now will the Pelishtim come down on me to Gilgal, and I haven't entreated the favor of the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt offering.

13. சாமுவேல் சவுலைப் பார்த்து: புத்தியீனமாய்ச் செய்தீர்; உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விதித்த கட்டளையைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமற்போனீர்; மற்றப்படி கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் உம்முடைய ராஜ்யபாரத்தை என்றைக்கும் ஸ்திரப்படுத்துவார்.

13. Shemu'el said to Sha'ul, You have done foolishly; you have not kept the mitzvah of the LORD your God, which he commanded you: for now would the LORD have established your kingdom on Yisra'el forever.

14. இப்போதோ உம்முடைய ராஜ்யபாரம் நிலைநிற்காது; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய இருதயத்திற்கு ஏற்ற ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தமக்குத் தேடி, அவனைக் கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஜனங்கள்மேல் தலைவனாயிருக்கக் கட்டளையிட்டார்; கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விதித்த கட்டளையை நீர் கைக்கொள்ளவில்லையே என்று சொன்னான்.

14. But now your kingdom shall not continue: the LORD has sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept that which the LORD commanded you.

15. சாமுவேல் எழுந்திருந்து, கில்காலைவிட்டு, பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவுக்குப் போனான்; சவுல் தன்னோடேகூட இருக்கிற ஜனத்தைத் தொகை பார்க்கிறபோது, ஏறக்குறைய அறுநூறுபேர் இருந்தார்கள்.

15. Shemu'el arose, and got him up from Gilgal to Gevah of Binyamin. Sha'ul numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men.

16. சவுலும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானும் அவர்களோடேகூட இருக்கிற ஜனங்களும் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவில் இருந்துவிட்டார்கள்; பெலிஸ்தரோ மிக்மாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.

16. Sha'ul, and Yonatan his son, and the people who were present with them, abode in Geva of Binyamin: but the Pelishtim encamped in Mikhmash.

17. கொள்ளைக்காரர் பெலிஸ்தரின் பாளயத்திலிருந்து மூன்று படையாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தார்கள்; ஒரு படை ஒப்ரா வழியாய்ச் சூவால் நாட்டிற்கு நேராகப்போயிற்று.

17. The spoilers came out of the camp of the Pelishtim in three companies: one company turned to the way that leads to Ofrat, to the land of Shual;

18. வேறொரு படை பெத்தொரோன் வழியாய்ப் போயிற்று; வேறொரு படை வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற செபோயீமின் பள்ளத்தாக்குக்கு எதிரான எல்லைவழியாய்ப் போயிற்று.

18. and another company turned the way to Beit-Horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looks down on the valley of Tzevo`im toward the wilderness.

19. எபிரெயர் பட்டயங்களையாகிலும் ஈட்டிகளையாகிலும் உண்டுபண்ணாதபடிக்குப் பார்த்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று பெலிஸ்தர் சொல்லியிருந்தபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்தில் எங்கும் ஒரு கொல்லன் அகப்படவில்லை.

19. Now there was no smith found throughout all Eretz-Yisra'el; for the Pelishtim said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:

20. இஸ்ரவேலர் யாவரும் அவரவர் தங்கள் கொழுவிரும்புகளையும், தங்கள் மண்வெட்டிகளையும், தங்கள் கோடரிகளையும், தங்கள் கடப்பாரைகளையும் தீட்டிக் கூர்மையாக்குகிறதற்கு, பெலிஸ்தரிடத்துக்குப் போகவேண்டியதாயிருந்தது.

20. but all the Yisra'elites went down to the Pelishtim, to sharpen every man his plowshare, mattock, axe, and sickle;

21. கடப்பாரைகளையும், மண்வெட்டிகளையும், முக்கூருள்ள ஆயுதங்களையும், கோடரிகளையும், தாற்றுக்கோல்களையும் கூர்மையாக்குகிறதற்கு அரங்கள் மாத்திரம் அவர்களிடத்தில் இருந்தது.

21. yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the plowshares, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads.

22. யுத்தநாள் வந்தபோது, சவுலுக்கும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானுக்குமேயன்றி, சவுலோடும் யோனத்தானோடும் இருக்கிற ஜனங்களில் ஒருவர் கையிலும் பட்டயமும் ஈட்டியும் இல்லாதிருந்தது.

22. So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Sha'ul and Yonatan: but with Sha'ul and with Yonatan his son was there found.

23. பெலிஸ்தரின் பாளயம் மிக்மாசிலிருந்து போகிற வழிமட்டும் பரம்பியிருந்தது.

23. The garrison of the Pelishtim went out to the pass of Mikhmash.
