1. கானான் தேசத்தில் நடந்த சகல யுத்தங்களையும் அறியாதிருந்த இஸ்ரவேலராகிய அனைவரையும் சோதிப்பதற்காகவும்,

1. These are the nations that GOD left there, using them to test the Israelites who had no experience in the Canaanite wars.

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சந்ததியாரும் அதற்குமுன் யுத்தஞ்செய்ய அறியாதிருந்தவர்களும் அவைகளை அறியும்படி பழக்குவிப்பதற்காகவும் கர்த்தர் விட்டுவைத்த ஜாதிகள் யாரென்றால்:

2. He did it to train the descendants of Israel, the ones who had no battle experience, in the art of war.

3. பெலிஸ்தரின் ஐந்து அதிபதிகளும், சகல கானானியரும், சீதோனியரும், பாகால்எர்மோன் துவக்கி ஆமாத்திற்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்வரைக்கும் லீபனோனின் மலைகளிலே குடியிருக்கிற ஏவியருமே.

3. He left the five Philistine tyrants, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon from Mount Baal Hermon to Hamath's Pass.

4. கர்த்தர் மோசேயைக்கொண்டு தங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு விதித்த கற்பனைகளுக்கு இஸ்ரவேலர் கீழ்ப்படிவார்களோ என்று அறியும்படி, இஸ்ரவேலரை அவர்களாலே சோதிப்பதற்காக அவர்கள் விடப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

4. They were there to test Israel and see whether they would obey GOD's commands that were given to their parents through Moses.

5. But the People of Israel made themselves at home among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

6. அவர்களுடைய குமாரத்திகளை விவாகம்பண்ணி, தங்களுடைய குமாரத்திகளை அவர்கள் குமாரருக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவர்கள் தேவர்களைச் சேவித்தார்கள்.

6. They married their daughters and gave their own daughters to their sons in marriage. And they worshiped their gods.

7. The People of Israel did evil in GOD's sight. They forgot their GOD and worshiped the Baal gods and Asherah goddesses.

8. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபமூண்டவராகி, அவர்களை மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின் கையிலே விற்றுப்போட்டார்; இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை எட்டு வருஷம் சேவித்தார்கள்.

8. GOD's hot anger blazed against Israel. He sold them off to Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim. The People of Israel were in servitude to Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years.

9. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை இரட்சிக்கும்படி காலேபின் தம்பியான கேனாசுடைய குமாரனாகிய ஒத்னியேல் என்னும் ஒரு இரட்சகனை அவர்களுக்கு எழும்பப்பண்ணினார்.

9. The People of Israel cried out to GOD and GOD raised up a savior who rescued them: Caleb's nephew Othniel, son of his younger brother Kenaz.

10. அவன்மேல் கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி வந்திருந்ததினால், அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்பட்டான்; கர்த்தர் மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; ஆகையால் அவன் கை கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின்மேல் பலங்கொண்டது.

10. The Spirit of GOD came on him and he rallied Israel. He went out to war and GOD gave him Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim. Othniel made short work of him.

11. தேசம் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது. கேனாசின் குமாரனாகிய ஒத்னியேல் மரணமடைந்தான்.

11. The land was quiet for forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.

12. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மறுபடியும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தபடியால், கர்த்தர் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவை இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பலக்கப்பண்ணினார்.

12. But the People of Israel went back to doing evil in GOD's sight. So GOD made Eglon king of Moab a power against Israel because they did evil in GOD's sight.

13. அவன் அம்மோன் புத்திரரையும் அமலேக்கியரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலை முறிய அடித்தான்; பேரீச்சமரங்களின் பட்டணத்தையும் பிடித்தான்.

13. He recruited the Ammonites and Amalekites and went out and struck Israel. They took the City of Palms.

14. இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவைப் பதினெட்டு வருஷம் சேவித்தார்கள்.

14. The People of Israel were in servitude to Eglon fourteen years.

15. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்குப் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தானாகிய கேராவின் மகன் ஏகூத் என்னும் இரட்சகனை எழும்பப்பண்ணினார்; அவன் இடதுகைப் பழக்கமுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான்; அவன் கையிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குக் காணிக்கை அனுப்பினார்கள்.

15. The People of Israel cried out to GOD and GOD raised up for them a savior, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjaminite. He was left-handed. The People of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon king of Moab.

16. ஏகூத், இருபுறமும் கருக்கும் ஒரு முழ நீளமுமான ஒரு கத்தியை உண்டுபண்ணி, அதைத் தன் வஸ்திரத்துக்குள்ளே தன் வலதுபுறத்து இடுப்பிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டு,

16. Ehud made himself a short two-edged sword and strapped it on his right thigh under his clothes.

17. காணிக்கையை மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குச் செலுத்தினான்; எக்லோன் மிகவும் ஸ்தூலித்த மனுஷனாயிருந்தான்.

17. He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Eglon was grossly fat.

18. அவன் காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்தித் தீர்ந்தபின்பு, காணிக்கையைச் சுமந்து வந்த ஜனங்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

18. After Ehud finished presenting the tribute, he went a little way with the men who had carried it.

19. அவனோ கில்காலிலுள்ள சிலைகள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவந்து: ராஜாவே, உம்மிடத்தில் சொல்லவேண்டிய இரகசியமான ஒரு வார்த்தை உண்டு என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: பொறு என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்தில் நின்ற யாவரும் அவனை விட்டு வெளியே போய்விட்டார்கள்.

19. But when he got as far as the stone images near Gilgal, he went back and said, 'I have a private message for you, O king.' The king told his servants, 'Leave.' They all left.

20. ஏகூத் அவன் கிட்டே போனான்; அவனோ தனக்குத் தனிப்புறம் இருந்த குளிர்ச்சியான அறைவீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏகூத்: உம்மிடத்திலே சொல்லவேண்டிய தேவவாக்கு எனக்கு உண்டு என்றான்; அவன் தன் ஆசனத்திலிருந்து எழுந்திருந்தான்.

20. Ehud approached him--the king was now quite alone in his cool rooftop room--and said, 'I have a word of God for you.' Eglon stood up from his throne.

21. உடனே ஏகூத் தன் இடதுகையை நீட்டி, தன் வலதுபுறத்து இடுப்பிலே கட்டியிருந்த கத்தியை உருவி, அதை அவன் வயிற்றிற்குள் பாய்ச்சினான்.

21. Ehud reached with his left hand and took his sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king's big belly.

22. அலகோடேகூடக் கைப்பிடியும் உள்ளே புகுந்தது; அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் போன கத்தியை இவன் இழுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, நிணம் அலகைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டடைத்தது; அது பின்புறத்திலே புறப்பட்டது.

22. Not only the blade but the hilt went in. The fat closed in over it so he couldn't pull it out.

23. ஏகூத் புறப்பட்டு, அறைவீட்டின் கதவைச் சாத்திப் பூட்டிப்போட்டு, கொலுக்கூடத்தின் வழியாய்ப் போய்விட்டான்.

23. Ehud slipped out by way of the porch and shut and locked the doors of the rooftop room behind him.

24. Then he was gone. When the servants came, they saw with surprise that the doors to the rooftop room were locked. They said, 'He's probably relieving himself in the restroom.'

25. அவர்கள் சலித்துப்போகுமட்டும் காத்திருந்தார்கள்; அவன் அறைவீட்டின் கதவைத் திறக்கவில்லை; ஆகையால் ஒரு திறவுகோலை எடுத்துத் திறந்தார்கள்; இதோ, அவர்கள் ஆண்டவன் தரையிலே செத்துக்கிடந்தான்.

25. They waited. And then they worried--no one was coming out of those locked doors. Finally, they got a key and unlocked them. There was their master, fallen on the floor, dead!

26. அவர்கள் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, ஏகூத் ஓடிப்போய், சிலைகளுள்ள இடத்தைக் கடந்து, சேயிராத்தைச் சேர்ந்து தப்பினான்.

26. While they were standing around wondering what to do, Ehud was long gone. He got past the stone images and escaped to Seirah.

27. When he got there, he sounded the trumpet on Mount Ephraim. The People of Israel came down from the hills and joined him. He took his place at their head.

28. என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வாருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் பகைஞராகிய மோவாபியரை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான். அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், மோவாபுக்கு எதிரான யோர்தான் துறைகளைப் பிடித்து, ஒருவனையும் கடந்துபோகவொட்டாமல்,

28. He said, 'Follow me, for GOD has given your enemies--yes, Moab!--to you.' They went down after him and secured the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites. They let no one cross over.

29. அக்காலத்திலே மோவாபியரில் ஏறக்குறையப் பதினாயிரம் பேரை வெட்டினார்கள்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் புஷ்டியுள்ளவர்களும் பராக்கிரமசாலிகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களில் ஒருவனும் தப்பவில்லை.

29. At that time, they struck down about ten companies of Moabites, all of them well-fed and robust. Not one escaped.

30. இப்படியே அந்நாளிலே மோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய கையின்கீழ்த் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டது; அதனாலே தேசம் எண்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

30. That day Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel. The land was quiet for eighty years.

31. அவனுக்குப்பிற்பாடு ஆனாத்தின் குமாரன் சம்கார் எழும்பினான்; அவன் பெலிஸ்தரில் அறுநூறு பேரை ஒரு தாற்றுக்கோலால் முறிய அடித்தான்; அவனும் இஸ்ரவேலை இரட்சித்தான்.

31. Shamgar son of Anath came after Ehud. Using a cattle prod, he killed six hundred Philistines single-handed. He too saved Israel.
