1. கானான் தேசத்தில் நடந்த சகல யுத்தங்களையும் அறியாதிருந்த இஸ்ரவேலராகிய அனைவரையும் சோதிப்பதற்காகவும்,

1. Now these [are] the Gentiles which the LORD left, to prove Israel with them, [even] as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சந்ததியாரும் அதற்குமுன் யுத்தஞ்செய்ய அறியாதிருந்தவர்களும் அவைகளை அறியும்படி பழக்குவிப்பதற்காகவும் கர்த்தர் விட்டுவைத்த ஜாதிகள் யாரென்றால்:

2. [he left them] only that the generations of the sons of Israel might know, [and] to teach them war, only [for those] that had known nothing before:

3. பெலிஸ்தரின் ஐந்து அதிபதிகளும், சகல கானானியரும், சீதோனியரும், பாகால்எர்மோன் துவக்கி ஆமாத்திற்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்வரைக்கும் லீபனோனின் மலைகளிலே குடியிருக்கிற ஏவியருமே.

3. [namely], five cardinals of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites that dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

4. கர்த்தர் மோசேயைக்கொண்டு தங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு விதித்த கற்பனைகளுக்கு இஸ்ரவேலர் கீழ்ப்படிவார்களோ என்று அறியும்படி, இஸ்ரவேலரை அவர்களாலே சோதிப்பதற்காக அவர்கள் விடப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

4. These, therefore, were [left] to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5. இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர், கானானியர், ஏத்தியர், எமோரியர், பெரிசியர், ஏவியர், எபூசியராகிய இவர்கள் நடுவே குடியிருந்து,

5. And as the sons of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites,

6. அவர்களுடைய குமாரத்திகளை விவாகம்பண்ணி, தங்களுடைய குமாரத்திகளை அவர்கள் குமாரருக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவர்கள் தேவர்களைச் சேவித்தார்கள்.

6. they took their daughters to be their wives and gave their daughters to their sons and served their gods.

7. இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்து, தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை மறந்து, பாகால்களையும் தோப்பு விக்கிரகங்களையும் சேவிக்கிறபோது,

7. And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and forgot the LORD their God and served the Baalim and the groves.

8. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபமூண்டவராகி, அவர்களை மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின் கையிலே விற்றுப்போட்டார்; இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை எட்டு வருஷம் சேவித்தார்கள்.

8. Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia, and the sons of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

9. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை இரட்சிக்கும்படி காலேபின் தம்பியான கேனாசுடைய குமாரனாகிய ஒத்னியேல் என்னும் ஒரு இரட்சகனை அவர்களுக்கு எழும்பப்பண்ணினார்.

9. And when the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a saviour to the sons of Israel, who saved them, [even] Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

10. அவன்மேல் கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி வந்திருந்ததினால், அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்பட்டான்; கர்த்தர் மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; ஆகையால் அவன் கை கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின்மேல் பலங்கொண்டது.

10. And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel and went out to war; and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

11. தேசம் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது. கேனாசின் குமாரனாகிய ஒத்னியேல் மரணமடைந்தான்.

11. And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, died.

12. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மறுபடியும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தபடியால், கர்த்தர் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவை இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பலக்கப்பண்ணினார்.

12. And the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD strengthened Eglon, the king of Moab, against Israel because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

13. அவன் அம்மோன் புத்திரரையும் அமலேக்கியரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலை முறிய அடித்தான்; பேரீச்சமரங்களின் பட்டணத்தையும் பிடித்தான்.

13. And he gathered unto him the sons of Ammon and of Amalek and went and smote Israel and took the city of palm trees.

14. இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவைப் பதினெட்டு வருஷம் சேவித்தார்கள்.

14. So the sons of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

15. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்குப் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தானாகிய கேராவின் மகன் ஏகூத் என்னும் இரட்சகனை எழும்பப்பண்ணினார்; அவன் இடதுகைப் பழக்கமுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான்; அவன் கையிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குக் காணிக்கை அனுப்பினார்கள்.

15. But when the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a saviour, Ehud, the son of Gera, a son of Jemini, a man, who had his right hand impeded, and by him the sons of Israel sent a present unto Eglon, the king of Moab.

16. ஏகூத், இருபுறமும் கருக்கும் ஒரு முழ நீளமுமான ஒரு கத்தியை உண்டுபண்ணி, அதைத் தன் வஸ்திரத்துக்குள்ளே தன் வலதுபுறத்து இடுப்பிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டு,

16. But Ehud had made himself a two-edged sword of a cubit length, and he girded it under his clothing upon his right thigh.

17. காணிக்கையை மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குச் செலுத்தினான்; எக்லோன் மிகவும் ஸ்தூலித்த மனுஷனாயிருந்தான்.

17. And he brought the present unto Eglon, king of Moab, and Eglon [was] a very fat man.

18. அவன் காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்தித் தீர்ந்தபின்பு, காணிக்கையைச் சுமந்து வந்த ஜனங்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

18. And when he had offered the present, he sent away the people that had brought the present.

19. அவனோ கில்காலிலுள்ள சிலைகள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவந்து: ராஜாவே, உம்மிடத்தில் சொல்லவேண்டிய இரகசியமான ஒரு வார்த்தை உண்டு என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: பொறு என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்தில் நின்ற யாவரும் அவனை விட்டு வெளியே போய்விட்டார்கள்.

19. But he, himself turned again from the graven images that [were] by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret word for thee, O king, who then said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

20. ஏகூத் அவன் கிட்டே போனான்; அவனோ தனக்குத் தனிப்புறம் இருந்த குளிர்ச்சியான அறைவீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏகூத்: உம்மிடத்திலே சொல்லவேண்டிய தேவவாக்கு எனக்கு உண்டு என்றான்; அவன் தன் ஆசனத்திலிருந்து எழுந்திருந்தான்.

20. And Ehud came unto him, and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a word from God unto thee. Then he arose out of [his] seat.

21. உடனே ஏகூத் தன் இடதுகையை நீட்டி, தன் வலதுபுறத்து இடுப்பிலே கட்டியிருந்த கத்தியை உருவி, அதை அவன் வயிற்றிற்குள் பாய்ச்சினான்.

21. But Ehud put forth his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into Eglon's belly;

22. அலகோடேகூடக் கைப்பிடியும் உள்ளே புகுந்தது; அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் போன கத்தியை இவன் இழுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, நிணம் அலகைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டடைத்தது; அது பின்புறத்திலே புறப்பட்டது.

22. in such a manner that the haft also went in after the blade, and the fat closed upon the blade so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly, and the excrement came out.

23. ஏகூத் புறப்பட்டு, அறைவீட்டின் கதவைச் சாத்திப் பூட்டிப்போட்டு, கொலுக்கூடத்தின் வழியாய்ப் போய்விட்டான்.

23. Then Ehud went forth through the porch and shut the doors of the parlour upon him and locked them.

24. அவன் போனபின்பு ஊழியக்காரர் வந்து பார்த்தார்கள்; இதோ, அறைவீட்டின் கதவு பூட்டியிருந்தது; ஆகையால் அவர் அந்தக் குளிர்ச்சியான அறையிலே மலஜலாதிக்கிருக்கிறாராக்கும் என்றார்கள்.

24. When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that the doors of the parlour [were] locked, they said, Peradventure he covers his feet in his summer chamber.

25. அவர்கள் சலித்துப்போகுமட்டும் காத்திருந்தார்கள்; அவன் அறைவீட்டின் கதவைத் திறக்கவில்லை; ஆகையால் ஒரு திறவுகோலை எடுத்துத் திறந்தார்கள்; இதோ, அவர்கள் ஆண்டவன் தரையிலே செத்துக்கிடந்தான்.

25. And having waited until they were confounded and he [had] not opened the doors of the parlour; therefore, they took a key and opened [them]; and, behold, their lord [was] fallen down dead on the earth.

26. அவர்கள் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, ஏகூத் ஓடிப்போய், சிலைகளுள்ள இடத்தைக் கடந்து, சேயிராத்தைச் சேர்ந்து தப்பினான்.

26. But while they had waited, Ehud escaped and passed beyond the graven images and escaped unto Seirath.

27. அங்கே வந்தபோது எப்பிராயீம் மலையில் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அவனோடேகூட மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கினார்கள்; அவன் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக நடந்து:

27. And as he entered in, he blew the shofar in the mountain of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

28. என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வாருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் பகைஞராகிய மோவாபியரை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான். அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், மோவாபுக்கு எதிரான யோர்தான் துறைகளைப் பிடித்து, ஒருவனையும் கடந்துபோகவொட்டாமல்,

28. Then he said unto them, Follow after me, for the LORD has delivered your enemies, the Moabites, into your hands. And they went down after him and took the fords of the Jordan towards Moab and did not let anyone pass.

29. அக்காலத்திலே மோவாபியரில் ஏறக்குறையப் பதினாயிரம் பேரை வெட்டினார்கள்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் புஷ்டியுள்ளவர்களும் பராக்கிரமசாலிகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களில் ஒருவனும் தப்பவில்லை.

29. And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all fat, and all men of war, and there escaped not a man.

30. இப்படியே அந்நாளிலே மோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய கையின்கீழ்த் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டது; அதனாலே தேசம் எண்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

30. So Moab was subjected that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest eighty years.

31. அவனுக்குப்பிற்பாடு ஆனாத்தின் குமாரன் சம்கார் எழும்பினான்; அவன் பெலிஸ்தரில் அறுநூறு பேரை ஒரு தாற்றுக்கோலால் முறிய அடித்தான்; அவனும் இஸ்ரவேலை இரட்சித்தான்.

31. And after him was Shamgar, the son of Anath, who slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad, and he also saved Israel.:
