1. வேவுகாரர் காண்பித்த வழியாக இஸ்ரவேலர் வருகிறார்கள் என்று தெற்கே வாசம்பண்ணுகிற கானானியனாகிய ஆராத் ராஜா கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவன் இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம் பண்ணி, அவர்களில் சிலரைச் சிறைபிடித்துக்கொண்டுபோனான்.

1. And the Canaanite, the king of Arad who dwelt in the South, heard that Israel had entered by the way of Atharim, so he made war with Israel, and took some of them captive.

2. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: தேவரீர் இந்த ஜனங்களை எங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தால், அவர்களுடைய பட்டணங்களைச் சங்காரம்பண்ணுவோம் என்று பிரதிக்கினை பண்ணினார்கள்.

2. Then Israel vowed vow unto Yahweh, and said, If thou wilt, surely deliver up, this people into my band, then will I utterly destroy their cities.

3. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின் சத்தத்துக்குச் செவிகொடுத்து, அவர்களுக்குக் கானானியரை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவர்களையும் அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களையும் சங்காரம்பண்ணி, அவ்விடத்திற்கு ஓர்மா என்று பேரிட்டார்கள்.

3. And Yahweh hearkened unto the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanite into his hand, so he utterly destroyed them, and their cities, and called the name of the place Hormah that is, Utter Destruction.

4. அவர்கள் ஏதோம் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்போகும்படிக்கு, ஓர் என்னும் மலையைவிட்டு, சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்தின் வழியாய்ப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணினார்கள்; வழியினிமித்தம் ஜனங்கள் மனமடிவடைந்தார்கள்.

4. Then brake they up from Mount Hor, by way of the Red Sea, to go round the land of Edom, and the soul of the people became impatient because of the way,

5. ஜனங்கள் தேவனுக்கும் மோசேக்கும் விரோதமாகப் பேசி: நாங்கள் வனாந்தரத்திலே சாகும்படி நீங்கள் எங்களை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து வரப்பண்ணினதென்ன? இங்கே அப்பமும் இல்லை, தண்ணீரும் இல்லை; இந்த அற்பமான உணவு எங்கள் மனதுக்கு வெறுப்பாயிருக்கிறது என்றார்கள்.

5. So then the people spake against God and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt, to die in the desert? for there is neither bread nor water, and our soul, doth loathe this contemptible bread!

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பங்களை ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்; அவைகள் ஜனங்களைக் கடித்ததினால் இஸ்ரவேலருக்குள்ளே அநேக ஜனங்கள் செத்தார்கள்.

6. And Yahweh sent among the people the poisonous serpents, and they bit the people, and much people out of Israel died.

7. அதினால் ஜனங்கள் மோசேயினிடத்தில் போய்: நாங்கள் கர்த்தருக்கும் உமக்கும் விரோதமாய்ப் பேசினதினால் பாவஞ்செய்தோம்; சர்ப்பங்கள் எங்களைவிட்டு நீங்கும்படி கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம் பண்ணவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்; மோசே ஜனங்களுக்காக விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினான்.

7. Then tame the people of Israel unto Moses and said We have sinned in that we spake against Yahweh and against thee, Pray thou unto Yahweh, that he may take from us the serpent. So Moses prayed for the people.

8. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீ ஒரு கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பத்தின் உருவத்தைச் செய்து, அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தின்மேல் தூக்கிவை; கடிக்கப்பட்டவன் எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப்பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான் என்றார்.

8. Then said Yahweh unto Moses Make thee a like serpent, and put it upon standard, and it shall come to pass, that, any one who is bitten, as soon as he seeth it, shall live.

9. அப்படியே மோசே ஒரு வெண்கலச்சர்ப்பத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தின்மேல் தூக்கிவைத்தான்; சர்ப்பம் ஒருவனைக் கடித்தபோது, அவன் அந்த வெண்கலச் சர்ப்பத்தை நோக்கிப்பார்த்துப் பிழைப்பான்.

9. So Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon the standard, and it came to pass that if the serpent had bitten any man, as soon as he directed his look unto the serpent of bronze, he lived.

10. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பிராயணப்பட்டுப்போய், ஓபோத்தில் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

10. And the sons of Israel brake up, and encamped in Oboth.

11. ஓபோத்திலிருந்து பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, சூரியோதயத்திற்கு நேராய் மோவாபுக்கு எதிரான வனாந்தரத்திலுள்ள அபாரீமின் மேடுகளில் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

11. And they brake up from Oboth, and encamped in Ije-Abarim, in the desert which is over against Moab, towards the rising of the sun.

12. அங்கேயிருந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போய், சாரேத் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

12. From thence, brake they up, and encamped in the ravine of Zered.

13. அங்கேயிருந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போய், எமோரியரின் எல்லையிலிருந்து வருகிறதும் வனாந்தரத்தில் ஓடுகிறதுமான அர்னோன் ஆற்றுக்கு இப்புறம் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; அந்த அர்னோன் மோவாபுக்கும் எமோரியருக்கும் நடுவே இருக்கிற மோவாபின் எல்லை.

13. From thence, brake they up, and encamped on the other side of Arnon which is in the desert, that cometh forth out of the boundary of the Amorites, for, Arnon, is the boundary of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

14. அதினால் சூப்பாவிலுள்ள வாகேபும், அர்னோனின் ஆற்றுக்கால்களும்,

14. For this cause is it said, in the Book of the Wars of Yahweh, Waheb with a hurricane, And the ravines of Arnon;

15. ஆர் என்னும் ஸ்தலத்துக்குப் பாயும் நீரோடையும் மோவாபின் எல்லையைச் சார்ந்திருக்கிறது என்னும் வசனம் கர்த்தருடைய யுத்த புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

15. And the bottom of the ravines, that extendeth toward the dwelling of Ar, And adjoineth to the boundary of Moab,

16. அங்கேயிருந்து பேயேருக்குப் போனார்கள்; ஜனங்களைக் கூடிவரச்செய், அவர்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் கொடுப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தர் மோசேக்குச் சொன்ன ஊற்று இருக்கிற இடம் அதுதான்.

16. And from thence, towards Beer, the same, is the well whereof Yahweh said unto Moses, Gather together the people, that I may give them water.

17. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் பாடின பாட்டாவது: ஊற்றுத் தண்ணீரே, பொங்கிவா; அதைக்குறித்துப் பாடுவோம் வாருங்கள்.

17. Then, sang Israel this song, Spring thou up, O well! Respond ye thereunto;

18. நியாயப்பிரமாணிக்கனின் ஏவுதலால் அதிபதிகள் கிணற்றைத் தோண்டினார்கள்; ஜனத்தின் மேன்மக்கள் தங்கள் தண்டாயுதங்களைக்கொண்டு தோண்டினார்கள் என்று பாடினார்கள்.

18. A well! princes digged it, Nobles of the people, delved it, With a sceptre, With their staves. And, from the desert, to Mattanah;

19. அந்த வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து மாத்தனாவுக்கும், மாத்தனாவிலிருந்து நகாலியேலுக்கும், நகாலியேலிலிருந்து பாமோத்துக்கும்,

19. and from Mattanah, to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel, to Bamoth;

20. பள்ளத்தாக்கிலுள்ள மோவாபின் வெளியில் இருக்கிற பாமோத்திலிருந்து எஷிமோனை நோக்கும் பிஸ்காவின் உச்சிக்கும் போனார்கள்.

20. and, from Bamoth of the valley, which is in the field-country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which over-looketh Jeshimon.

21. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனிடத்தில் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி:

21. Then sent Israel messengers, unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying:

22. உமது தேசத்தின் வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோகும்படி உத்தவு கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; நாங்கள் வயல்களிலும், திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலும் போகாமலும், துரவுகளின் தண்ணீரைக் குடியாமலும், உமது எல்லையைக் கடந்துபோகுமட்டும் ராஜபாதையில் நடந்துபோவோம் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்.

22. Let me pass through thy land we will not turn aside into field or into vineyard, nor will we drink the water of a well, by the kings road, will we go, until we get through thy boundary.

23. சீகோன் தன் எல்லை வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோக இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு உத்தரவு கொடாமல், தன் ஜனங்களெல்லாரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு விரோதமாக வனாந்தரத்திலே புறப்பட்டு, யாகாசுக்கு வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலரோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்.

23. And Sihon suffered not Israel to pass through his boundary, but Sihon gathered together all his people, and came forth to meet Israel, towards the desert, and entered Jahaz, and fought with Israel.

24. இஸ்ரவேலர் அவனைப் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி, அர்னோன் தொடங்கி அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் தேசத்தைச்சார்ந்த யாப்போக்குவரைக்குமுள்ள அவனுடைய தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்; அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் எல்லை அரணிப்பானதாயிருந்தது.

24. And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land, from Arnon unto Jabbok, unto the sons of Ammon, for strong, was the boundary of the sons of Ammon.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர் அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் யாவையும் பிடித்து, எஸ்போனிலும் அதைச் சார்ந்த எல்லாக் கிராமங்களிலும் எமோரியருடைய எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களிலும் குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

25. So Israel took all these cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all her villages;

26. எஸ்போனானது எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனின் பட்டணமாயிருந்தது; அவன் மோவாபியரின் முந்தின ராஜாவுக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ணி, அர்னோன் வரைக்கும் இருந்த அவன் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் அவன் கையிலிருந்து பறித்துக்கொண்டான்.

26. for, as for Heshbon, the city of Sihon king of the Amorites, it was, he, having fought with the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, unto Arnon.

27. அதினாலே கவிகட்டுகிறவர்கள்: எஸ்போனுக்கு வாருங்கள்; சீகோனின் பட்டணம் ஸ்திரமாய்க் கட்டப்படுவதாக.

27. For this cause, say the poets Enter ye Heshbon, Built and prepared be the city of Sihon;

28. எஸ்போனிலிருந்து அக்கினியும் சீகோனுடைய பட்டணத்திலிருந்து ஜூவாலையும் புறப்பட்டு, மோவாபுடைய ஆர் என்னும் ஊரையும், அர்னோனுடைய மேடுகளிலுள்ள ஆண்டவமார்களையும் பட்சித்தது.

28. For, a fire, hath come forth out of Heshbon, A flame, out of the stronghold of Sihon; It hath consumed Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of Arnon.

29. ஐயோ, மோவாபே, கேமோஷ் தேவனின் ஜனமே, நீ நாசமானாய்; தப்பி ஓடின தன் குமாரரையும் தன் குமாரத்திகளையும் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனுக்குச் சிறைகளாக ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தான்.

29. Woe to thee, Moab, Thou art lost, O people of Chemosh, He hath given up his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, Unto the king of the Amorites, Sihon.

30. அவர்களை எய்துபோட்டோம்; எஸ்போன் பட்டணம் தீபோன் ஊர்வரைக்கும் நாசமாயிற்று; மேதோபாவுக்குச் சமீபமான நோப்பா பட்டணபரியந்தம் அவர்களைப் பாழாக்கினோம் என்று பாடினார்கள்.

30. Then we shot them Heshbon is destroyed, as far as Dibon, Then laid we waste as far as Nophah, A fire reacheth unto Medeba.

31. இஸ்ரவேலர் இப்படியே எமோரியரின் தேசத்திலே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

31. So then Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.

32. பின்பு, மோசே யாசேர் பட்டணத்துக்கு வேவுபார்க்கிறவர்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் அதைச்சேர்ந்த கிராமங்களைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு, அங்கே இருந்த எமோரியரைத் துரத்திவிட்டார்கள்.

32. And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured the villages thereof, and dispossessed the Amorites that were there.

33. பின்பு பாசானுக்குப் போகிற வழியாய்த் திரும்பிவிட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது பாசான் ராஜாவாகிய ஓக் என்பவன் தன் சமஸ்த ஜனங்களோடும் அவர்களை எதிர்த்து யுத்தம்பண்ணும்படிக்கு, எத்ரேயுக்குப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தான்.

33. Then turned they, and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og, king of Bashan, came forth to meet them he and all his people, to give battle at Edrei.

34. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: அவனுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டாம்; அவனையும் அவன் ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரையும், அவன் தேசத்தையும் உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்; எஸ்போனிலே வாசமாயிருந்த எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனுக்கு நீ செய்தபடியே இவனுக்கும் செய்வாய் என்றார்.

34. Then said Yahweh unto Moses Do not fear him, for into thy hand, have I delivered him and all his people, and his land, Therefore shalt thou do unto him, as thou didst unto Sihon king of he Amorites, who was dwelling in Heshbon.

35. அப்படியே ஒருவரும் உயிருடன் மீதியாயிராதபடிக்கு அவனையும், அவன் குமாரரையும், அவனுடைய சகல ஜனங்களையும் வெட்டிப்போட்டு, அவன் தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

35. So then they smote him and his sons and all his people, until there was not left him a remnant, and took possession of his land.
