1. வேவுகாரர் காண்பித்த வழியாக இஸ்ரவேலர் வருகிறார்கள் என்று தெற்கே வாசம்பண்ணுகிற கானானியனாகிய ஆராத் ராஜா கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவன் இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம் பண்ணி, அவர்களில் சிலரைச் சிறைபிடித்துக்கொண்டுபோனான்.

1. The Canaanite king of Arad lived in the Southern Desert of Canaan, and when he heard that the Israelites were on their way to the village of Atharim, he attacked and took some of them hostage.

2. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: தேவரீர் இந்த ஜனங்களை எங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தால், அவர்களுடைய பட்டணங்களைச் சங்காரம்பண்ணுவோம் என்று பிரதிக்கினை பண்ணினார்கள்.

2. The Israelites prayed, 'Our LORD, if you will help us defeat these Canaanites, we will completely destroy their towns and everything in them, to show that they belong to you.'

3. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின் சத்தத்துக்குச் செவிகொடுத்து, அவர்களுக்குக் கானானியரை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவர்களையும் அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களையும் சங்காரம்பண்ணி, அவ்விடத்திற்கு ஓர்மா என்று பேரிட்டார்கள்.

3. The LORD answered their prayer and helped them wipe out the Canaanite army and completely destroy their towns. That's why one of the towns is named Hormah, which means 'Destroyed Place.'

4. அவர்கள் ஏதோம் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்போகும்படிக்கு, ஓர் என்னும் மலையைவிட்டு, சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்தின் வழியாய்ப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணினார்கள்; வழியினிமித்தம் ஜனங்கள் மனமடிவடைந்தார்கள்.

4. The Israelites had to go around the territory of Edom, so when they left Mount Hor, they headed south toward the Red Sea. But along the way, the people became so impatient

5. ஜனங்கள் தேவனுக்கும் மோசேக்கும் விரோதமாகப் பேசி: நாங்கள் வனாந்தரத்திலே சாகும்படி நீங்கள் எங்களை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து வரப்பண்ணினதென்ன? இங்கே அப்பமும் இல்லை, தண்ணீரும் இல்லை; இந்த அற்பமான உணவு எங்கள் மனதுக்கு வெறுப்பாயிருக்கிறது என்றார்கள்.

5. that they complained against God and said to Moses, 'Did you bring us out of Egypt, just to let us die in the desert? There's no water out here, and we can't stand this awful food!'

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பங்களை ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்; அவைகள் ஜனங்களைக் கடித்ததினால் இஸ்ரவேலருக்குள்ளே அநேக ஜனங்கள் செத்தார்கள்.

6. Then the LORD sent poisonous snakes that bit and killed many of them.

7. அதினால் ஜனங்கள் மோசேயினிடத்தில் போய்: நாங்கள் கர்த்தருக்கும் உமக்கும் விரோதமாய்ப் பேசினதினால் பாவஞ்செய்தோம்; சர்ப்பங்கள் எங்களைவிட்டு நீங்கும்படி கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம் பண்ணவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்; மோசே ஜனங்களுக்காக விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினான்.

7. Some of the people went to Moses and admitted, 'It was wrong of us to insult you and the LORD. Now please ask him to make these snakes go away.' Moses prayed,

8. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீ ஒரு கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பத்தின் உருவத்தைச் செய்து, அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தின்மேல் தூக்கிவை; கடிக்கப்பட்டவன் எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப்பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான் என்றார்.

8. and the LORD answered, 'Make a snake out of bronze and place it on top of a pole. Anyone who gets bitten can look at the snake and won't die.'

9. Moses obeyed the LORD. And all of those who looked at the bronze snake lived, even though they had been bitten by the poisonous snakes.

10. As the Israelites continued their journey to Canaan, they camped at Oboth,

11. then at Iye-Abarim in the desert east of Moab,

12. அங்கேயிருந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போய், சாரேத் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

12. and then in the Zered Gorge.

13. அங்கேயிருந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போய், எமோரியரின் எல்லையிலிருந்து வருகிறதும் வனாந்தரத்தில் ஓடுகிறதுமான அர்னோன் ஆற்றுக்கு இப்புறம் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; அந்த அர்னோன் மோவாபுக்கும் எமோரியருக்கும் நடுவே இருக்கிற மோவாபின் எல்லை.

13. After that, they crossed the Arnon River gorge and camped in the Moabite desert bordering Amorite territory. The Arnon was the border between the Moabites and the Amorites.

14. அதினால் சூப்பாவிலுள்ள வாகேபும், அர்னோனின் ஆற்றுக்கால்களும்,

14. A song in The Book of the LORD's Battles mentions the town of Waheb with its creeks in the territory of Suphah. It also mentions the Arnon River,

15. ஆர் என்னும் ஸ்தலத்துக்குப் பாயும் நீரோடையும் மோவாபின் எல்லையைச் சார்ந்திருக்கிறது என்னும் வசனம் கர்த்தருடைய யுத்த புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

15. with its valleys that lie alongside the Moabite border and extend to the town of Ar.

16. அங்கேயிருந்து பேயேருக்குப் போனார்கள்; ஜனங்களைக் கூடிவரச்செய், அவர்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் கொடுப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தர் மோசேக்குச் சொன்ன ஊற்று இருக்கிற இடம் அதுதான்.

16. From the Arnon, the Israelites went to the well near the town of Beer, where the LORD had said to Moses, 'Call the people together, and I will give them water to drink.'

17. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் பாடின பாட்டாவது: ஊற்றுத் தண்ணீரே, பொங்கிவா; அதைக்குறித்துப் பாடுவோம் வாருங்கள்.

17. That's also the same well the Israelites sang about in this song: Let's celebrate! The well has given us water.

18. நியாயப்பிரமாணிக்கனின் ஏவுதலால் அதிபதிகள் கிணற்றைத் தோண்டினார்கள்; ஜனத்தின் மேன்மக்கள் தங்கள் தண்டாயுதங்களைக்கொண்டு தோண்டினார்கள் என்று பாடினார்கள்.

18. With their royal scepters, our leaders pointed out where to dig the well. The Israelites left the desert and camped near the town of Mattanah,

19. அந்த வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து மாத்தனாவுக்கும், மாத்தனாவிலிருந்து நகாலியேலுக்கும், நகாலியேலிலிருந்து பாமோத்துக்கும்,

19. then at Nahaliel, and then at Bamoth.

20. Finally, they reached Moabite territory, where they camped near Mount Pisgah in a valley overlooking the desert north of the Dead Sea.

21. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனிடத்தில் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி:

21. The Israelites sent this message to King Sihon of the Amorites:

22. உமது தேசத்தின் வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோகும்படி உத்தவு கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; நாங்கள் வயல்களிலும், திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலும் போகாமலும், துரவுகளின் தண்ணீரைக் குடியாமலும், உமது எல்லையைக் கடந்துபோகுமட்டும் ராஜபாதையில் நடந்துபோவோம் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்.

22. Please let us pass through your territory. We promise to stay away from your fields and vineyards, and we won't drink any water from your wells. As long as we're in your land, we won't get off the main road.

23. சீகோன் தன் எல்லை வழியாய்க் கடந்துபோக இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு உத்தரவு கொடாமல், தன் ஜனங்களெல்லாரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு விரோதமாக வனாந்தரத்திலே புறப்பட்டு, யாகாசுக்கு வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலரோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்.

23. But Sihon refused to let Israel travel through his land. Instead, he called together his entire army and marched into the desert to attack Israel near the town of Jahaz.

24. இஸ்ரவேலர் அவனைப் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி, அர்னோன் தொடங்கி அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் தேசத்தைச்சார்ந்த யாப்போக்குவரைக்குமுள்ள அவனுடைய தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்; அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் எல்லை அரணிப்பானதாயிருந்தது.

24. Israel defeated them and took over the Amorite territory from the Arnon River gorge in the south to the Jabbok River gorge in the north. Beyond the Jabbok was the territory of the Ammonites, who were much stronger than Israel.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர் அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் யாவையும் பிடித்து, எஸ்போனிலும் அதைச் சார்ந்த எல்லாக் கிராமங்களிலும் எமோரியருடைய எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களிலும் குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

25. The Israelites settled in the Amorite towns, including the capital city of Heshbon with its surrounding villages.

26. எஸ்போனானது எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனின் பட்டணமாயிருந்தது; அவன் மோவாபியரின் முந்தின ராஜாவுக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ணி, அர்னோன் வரைக்கும் இருந்த அவன் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் அவன் கையிலிருந்து பறித்துக்கொண்டான்.

26. King Sihon had ruled from Heshbon, after defeating the Moabites and taking over their land north of the Arnon River gorge.

27. அதினாலே கவிகட்டுகிறவர்கள்: எஸ்போனுக்கு வாருங்கள்; சீகோனின் பட்டணம் ஸ்திரமாய்க் கட்டப்படுவதாக.

27. That's why the Amorites had written this poem about Heshbon: Come and rebuild Heshbon, King Sihon's capital city!

28. எஸ்போனிலிருந்து அக்கினியும் சீகோனுடைய பட்டணத்திலிருந்து ஜூவாலையும் புறப்பட்டு, மோவாபுடைய ஆர் என்னும் ஊரையும், அர்னோனுடைய மேடுகளிலுள்ள ஆண்டவமார்களையும் பட்சித்தது.

28. His armies marched out like fiery flames, burning down the town of Ar and destroying the hills along the Arnon River.

29. ஐயோ, மோவாபே, கேமோஷ் தேவனின் ஜனமே, நீ நாசமானாய்; தப்பி ஓடின தன் குமாரரையும் தன் குமாரத்திகளையும் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனுக்குச் சிறைகளாக ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தான்.

29. You Moabites are done for! Your god Chemosh deserted your people; they were captured, taken away by King Sihon the Amorite.

30. அவர்களை எய்துபோட்டோம்; எஸ்போன் பட்டணம் தீபோன் ஊர்வரைக்கும் நாசமாயிற்று; மேதோபாவுக்குச் சமீபமான நோப்பா பட்டணபரியந்தம் அவர்களைப் பாழாக்கினோம் என்று பாடினார்கள்.

30. We completely defeated Moab. The towns of Heshbon and Dibon, of Nophah and Medeba are ruined and gone.

31. இஸ்ரவேலர் இப்படியே எமோரியரின் தேசத்திலே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

31. After the Israelites had settled in the Amorite territory,

32. பின்பு, மோசே யாசேர் பட்டணத்துக்கு வேவுபார்க்கிறவர்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் அதைச்சேர்ந்த கிராமங்களைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு, அங்கே இருந்த எமோரியரைத் துரத்திவிட்டார்கள்.

32. Moses sent some men to explore the town of Jazer. Later, the Israelites captured the villages surrounding it and forced out the Amorites who lived there.

33. பின்பு பாசானுக்குப் போகிற வழியாய்த் திரும்பிவிட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது பாசான் ராஜாவாகிய ஓக் என்பவன் தன் சமஸ்த ஜனங்களோடும் அவர்களை எதிர்த்து யுத்தம்பண்ணும்படிக்கு, எத்ரேயுக்குப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தான்.

33. The Israelites headed toward the region of Bashan, where King Og ruled, and he led his entire army to Edrei to meet Israel in battle.

34. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: அவனுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டாம்; அவனையும் அவன் ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரையும், அவன் தேசத்தையும் உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்; எஸ்போனிலே வாசமாயிருந்த எமோரியரின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனுக்கு நீ செய்தபடியே இவனுக்கும் செய்வாய் என்றார்.

34. The LORD said to Moses, 'Don't be afraid of Og. I will help you defeat him and his army, just as you did King Sihon who ruled in Heshbon. Og's territory will be yours.'

35. அப்படியே ஒருவரும் உயிருடன் மீதியாயிராதபடிக்கு அவனையும், அவன் குமாரரையும், அவனுடைய சகல ஜனங்களையும் வெட்டிப்போட்டு, அவன் தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

35. So the Israelites wiped out Og, his family, and his entire army--there were no survivors. Then Israel took over the land of Bashan.
