1. அப்பொழுது சூகியனான பில்தாத் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

1. And Bildad the Shuhite answereth and saith: --

2. நீங்கள் எந்தமட்டும் பேச்சுகளை முடிக்காதிருப்பீர்கள்? புத்திமான்களாயிருங்கள்; நாங்களும் பேசட்டும்.

2. When do ye set an end to words? Consider ye, and afterwards do we speak.

3. நாங்கள் மிருகங்களைப்போல எண்ணப்பட்டு, உங்கள் பார்வைக்குத் தீழ்ப்பானவர்களாயிருப்பானேன்?

3. Wherefore have we been reckoned as cattle? We have been defiled in your eyes!

4. கோபத்தினால் உம்மைத்தானே பீறுகிற உமதுநிமித்தம் பூமி பாழாய்ப்போகுமோ? கன்மலை தன்னிடத்தைவிட்டுப் பேருமோ?

4. (He is tearing himself in his anger.) For thy sake is earth forsaken? And removed is a rock from its place?

5. துன்மார்க்கனுடைய விளக்கு அணைந்துபோகும்; அவன் அடுப்பின் நெருப்பும் அவிந்துபோகும்.

5. Also, the light of the wicked is extinguished. And there doth not shine a spark of his fire.

6. அவன் கூடாரத்தில் வெளிச்சம் அந்தகாரப்படும்; அவன் விளக்கு அவனுடனே அணைந்துபோகும்.

6. The light hath been dark in his tent, And his lamp over him is extinguished.

7. அவன் பெலனாய் நடந்த நடைகள் குறைந்துபோகும் அவன் ஆலோசனை அவனை விழப்பண்ணும்.

7. Straitened are the steps of his strength, And cast him down doth his own counsel.

8. அவன் தன் கால்களினால் வலையில் அகப்பட்டு, வலைச்சிக்கலிலே நடக்கிறான்.

8. For he is sent into a net by his own feet, And on a snare he doth walk habitually.

9. கண்ணி அவன் குதிகாலைப் பிடிக்கும்; பறிகாரர் அவனை மேற்கொள்வார்கள்.

9. Seize on the heel doth a gin, Prevail over him do the designing.

10. அவனுக்காகச் சுருக்கு தரையிலும், அவனுக்காகக் கண்ணி வழியிலும் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

10. Hidden in the earth is his cord, And his trap on the path.

11. சுற்றிலுமிருந்துண்டாகும் பயங்கரங்கள் அவனைத் திடுக்கிடப்பண்ணி, அவன் கால்களைத் திசைதெரியாமல் அலையப்பண்ணும்.

11. Round about terrified him have terrors, And they have scattered him -- at his feet.

12. அவன் பெலனைப் பட்டினி தின்றுபோடும்; அவன் பக்கத்தில் கேடு ஆயத்தப்பட்டு நிற்கும்.

12. Hungry is his sorrow, And calamity is ready at his side.

13. அது அவன் அங்கத்தின் பலத்தைப் பட்சிக்கும்; பயங்கரமான மரணமே அவன் அவயவங்களைப் பட்சிக்கும்.

13. It consumeth the parts of his skin, Consume his parts doth death's first-born.

14. அவன் நம்பிக்கை அவன் கூடாரத்திலிருந்து வேரோடே பிடுங்கப்படும்; அது அவனைப் பயங்கர ராஜாவினிடத்தில் துரத்தும்.

14. Drawn from his tent is his confidence, And it causeth him to step to the king of terrors.

15. அவனுக்கு ஒன்றுமில்லாமற் போனதினால், பயங்கரம் அவன் கூடாரத்தில் குடியிருக்கும்; கந்தகம் அவன் வாசஸ்தலத்தின்மேல் தெளிக்கப்படும்.

15. It dwelleth in his tent -- out of his provender, Scattered over his habitation is sulphur.

16. கீழே இருக்கிற அவன் வேர்கள் அழிந்துபோகும்; மேலே இருக்கிற அவன் கிளைகள் பட்டுப்போகும்.

16. From beneath his roots are dried up, And from above cut off is his crop.

17. அவனை நினைக்கும் நினைப்புப் பூமியிலிருந்தழியும், வீதிகளில் அவன் பேரில்லாமற்போகும்.

17. His memorial hath perished from the land, And he hath no name on the street.

18. அவன் வெளிச்சத்திலிருந்து இருளில் துரத்திவிடப்பட்டு, பூலோகத்திலிருந்து தள்ளுண்டுபோவான்.

18. They thrust him from light unto darkness, And from the habitable earth cast him out.

19. அவன் ஜனத்துக்குள்ளே அவனுக்குப் புத்திரனும் இல்லை பெளத்திரனும் இல்லை; அவன் வீட்டில் மீதியாயிருக்கத்தக்கவன் ஒருவனும் இல்லை.

19. He hath no continuator, Nor successor among his people, And none is remaining in his dwellings.

20. அவன் காலத்தோர் அவன் நாளுக்காகத் திடுக்கிட்டதுபோல, பின்னடியாரும் பிரமிப்பார்கள்.

20. At this day westerns have been astonished And easterns have taken fright.

21. அக்கிரமக்காரன் குடியிருந்த ஸ்தானங்கள் இவைகள்தான்; தேவனை அறியாமற்போனவனுடைய ஸ்தலம் இதுவே என்பார்கள் என்றான்.

21. Only these [are] tabernacles of the perverse, And this the place God hath not known.
