1. ஊத்ஸ் தேசத்திலே யோபு என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அந்த மனுஷன் உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாயிருந்தான்.
1 தெசலோனிக்கேயர் 5:22

1. In the land of Hus, there was a man called Job: an innocent and virtuous man, such one as feared God, and eschewed evil.

2. அவனுக்கு ஏழு குமாரரும், மூன்று குமாரத்திகளும் பிறந்தார்கள்.

2. This man had seven sons, and three daughters.

3. அவனுக்கு ஏழாயிரம் ஆடுகளும், மூவாயிரம் ஒட்டகங்களும், ஐந்நூறு ஏர்மாடுகளும், ஐந்நூறு கழுதைகளுமாகிய மிருகஜீவன்கள் இருந்ததுமன்றி, திரளான பணிவிடைக்காரரும் இருந்தார்கள்; அதினால் அந்த மனுஷன் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் எல்லாரிலும் பெரியவனாயிருந்தான்.

3. His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundredth yoke of oxen, five hundredth she asses, and a very great household: so that he was one of the most principal men among all them of the east country.

4. அவன் குமாரர், அவனவன் தன்தன் நாளிலே தன்தன் வீட்டிலே விருந்துசெய்து, தங்கள் மூன்று சகோதரிகளையும் தங்களோடே போஜனம்பண்ணும்படி அழைப்பார்கள்.

4. And his sons went,(His sonnes now wente on every man) and made banquets: one day in one house, another day in another, and sent for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5. விருந்துசெய்கிற அவரவருடைய நாள்முறை முடிகிறபோது, யோபு: ஒருவேளை என் குமாரர் பாவஞ்செய்து, தேவனைத் தங்கள் இருதயத்திலே தூஷித்திருப்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை அழைத்தனுப்பி, பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தி, அதிகாலமே எழுந்து, அவர்கள் எல்லாருடைய இலக்கத்தின்படியேயும் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்துவான்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக யோபு அந்நாட்களிலெல்லாம் செய்துவருவான்.

5. So when they had passed over the time of their banqueting round about, Job sent for them, and cleansed them again, and gat(stode) up early, and offered for everyone a brentoffering. For Job thought thus: peradventure my sons have done some offense, and have been unthankful to God in their hearts. And thus did Job everyday.

6. ஒருநாள் தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே வந்து நின்றான்.

6. Now upon a time, when the servants of God came and stood before the LORD, Sathan came also among them.

7. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார். சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

7. And the LORD said unto Sathan: From whence comest thou? Sathan answered the LORD, and said: I have gone about the land and walked thorow it.

8. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனும் இல்லை என்றார்.

8. Then said the LORD unto Sathan: hast thou not considered my servant Job, and how that he is an innocent and virtuous man: such one as feareth God, and escheweth evil, and that there is none like him in the land?

9. அதற்குச் சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: யோபு விருதாவாகவா தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து நடக்கிறான்?

9. Sathan answered, and said unto the LORD: Doth Job fear God for naught?

10. நீர் அவனையும் அவன் வீட்டையும் அவனுக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும் சுற்றி வேலியடைக்கவில்லையோ? அவன் கைகளின் கிரியையை ஆசீர்வதித்தீர்; அவனுடைய சம்பத்து தேசத்தில் பெருகிற்று.

10. hast thou not preserved him, his house, and all his substance on every side? hast thou not blessed the work of his hands? Is not his possession increased(encreased) in the land?

11. ஆனாலும் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான்.

11. But lay thine hand upon him a little, touch once all that he hath, and (I hold) he shall curse thee to thy face.

12. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: இதோ, அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் உன் கையிலிருக்கிறது; அவன்மேல் மாத்திரம் உன் கையை நீட்டாதே என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

12. And the LORD said unto Sathan: lo all that he hath, be in thy power: only upon him self see that thou lay not thine hand. Then went Sathan forth from the LORD.

13. பின்பு ஒருநாள் யோபுடைய குமாரரும், அவன் குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்து, திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது,

13. Now upon a certain day when his sons and daughters were eating, and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,

14. ஒரு ஆள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து: எருதுகள் உழுகிறபோது, கழுதைகள் அவைகளின் பக்கத்திலே மேய்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கையில்,

14. there came a messenger unto Job, and said: While the oxen were a plowing, and the Asses going in the pasture beside them:

15. சபேயர் அவைகள்மேல் விழுந்து, அவைகளைச் சாய்த்துக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்; வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

15. the Sabees came in violently, and took them all away: yea they have slain thy(the) servants with the sword, and I only ran my way, to tell thee.

16. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: வானத்திலிருந்து தேவனுடைய அக்கினி விழுந்து, ஆடுகளையும் வேலையாட்களையும் சுட்டெரித்துப்போட்டது; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

16. And while he was yet speaking, there came another, and said: The fire of God is fallen from heaven, it hath consumed, and brent up all thy sheep and servants: and I only ran my way, to tell thee.

17. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: கல்தேயர் மூன்று பவுஞ்சாய் வந்து, ஒட்டகங்கள்மேல் விழுந்து, அவைகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள், வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

17. In the mean season while he was yet speaking, there came another, and said: The Caldees made three armies, and fell upon thy(the) camels, which they have carried away, yea and slain thy servants with the sword: and I only am gotten away, to tell thee:

18. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: உம்முடைய குமாரரும் உம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்துத் திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது,

18. While he was speaking, there came yet another, and said: Thy sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,

19. வனாந்தரவழியாய்ப் பெருங்காற்று வந்து, அந்த வீட்டின் நாலு மூலையிலும் அடிக்க, அது பிள்ளைகளின்மேல் விழுந்ததினால் அவர்கள் இறந்து போனார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

19. and suddenly there came a mighty great wind out of the South, and smote the four corners of the house: which fell upon thy children, so that they are dead: and I am gotten away alone, to tell thee.

20. அப்பொழுது யோபு எழுந்திருந்து, தன் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, தன் தலையைச் சிரைத்து, தரையிலே விழுந்து பணிந்து:

20. Then Job stood up, and rent his clothes, shaved his head, fell down upon the ground, worshipped,

21. நிர்வாணியாய் என் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நிர்வாணியாய் அவ்விடத்துக்குத் திரும்புவேன்; கர்த்தர் கொடுத்தார், கர்த்தர் எடுத்தார்; கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்துக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் என்றான்.
1 தீமோத்தேயு 6:7

21. and said: Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I turn thither again. The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away, (The Greek and Origen add herunto: As it hath pleased the LORD so is it done.) now blessed be the name of the LORD.

22. இவையெல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு பாவஞ்செய்யவுமில்லை, தேவனைப்பற்றிக் குறைசொல்லவுமில்லை.

22. In all these things did Job not offend, nor murmured foolishly against God.
