1. ஊத்ஸ் தேசத்திலே யோபு என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அந்த மனுஷன் உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாயிருந்தான்.
1 தெசலோனிக்கேயர் 5:22

1. There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. That man was without blame. He was right and good, he feared God, and turned away from sin.

2. அவனுக்கு ஏழு குமாரரும், மூன்று குமாரத்திகளும் பிறந்தார்கள்.

2. Seven sons and three daughters were born to him.

3. அவனுக்கு ஏழாயிரம் ஆடுகளும், மூவாயிரம் ஒட்டகங்களும், ஐந்நூறு ஏர்மாடுகளும், ஐந்நூறு கழுதைகளுமாகிய மிருகஜீவன்கள் இருந்ததுமன்றி, திரளான பணிவிடைக்காரரும் இருந்தார்கள்; அதினால் அந்த மனுஷன் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் எல்லாரிலும் பெரியவனாயிருந்தான்.

3. He had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 500 female donkeys, and many servants. He was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4. அவன் குமாரர், அவனவன் தன்தன் நாளிலே தன்தன் வீட்டிலே விருந்துசெய்து, தங்கள் மூன்று சகோதரிகளையும் தங்களோடே போஜனம்பண்ணும்படி அழைப்பார்கள்.

4. His sons used to go and make a special supper in each one's house on a special day. And they would send for their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5. விருந்துசெய்கிற அவரவருடைய நாள்முறை முடிகிறபோது, யோபு: ஒருவேளை என் குமாரர் பாவஞ்செய்து, தேவனைத் தங்கள் இருதயத்திலே தூஷித்திருப்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை அழைத்தனுப்பி, பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தி, அதிகாலமே எழுந்து, அவர்கள் எல்லாருடைய இலக்கத்தின்படியேயும் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்துவான்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக யோபு அந்நாட்களிலெல்லாம் செய்துவருவான்.

5. When the days of their special supper were over, Job would get up early in the morning and send for them. Then he would give burnt gifts for each of them so that they would be pure. For Job said, 'It might be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.' Job always did this.

6. ஒருநாள் தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே வந்து நின்றான்.

6. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to show themselves before the Lord. Satan came with them also.

7. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார். சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

7. And the Lord said to Satan, 'Where have you come from?' Satan answered the Lord and said, 'From traveling around on the earth and walking around on it.'

8. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனும் இல்லை என்றார்.

8. The Lord said to Satan, 'Have you thought about My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth. He is without blame, a man who is right and good. He honors God with fear and turns away from sin.'

9. அதற்குச் சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: யோபு விருதாவாகவா தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து நடக்கிறான்?

9. Then Satan answered the Lord, 'Does Job fear God for nothing?

10. நீர் அவனையும் அவன் வீட்டையும் அவனுக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும் சுற்றி வேலியடைக்கவில்லையோ? அவன் கைகளின் கிரியையை ஆசீர்வதித்தீர்; அவனுடைய சம்பத்து தேசத்தில் பெருகிற்று.

10. Have You not made a wall around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have brought good to the work of his hands, and he has received more and more in the land.

11. ஆனாலும் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான்.

11. But put out Your hand now and touch all that he has. And for sure he will curse You to Your face.'

12. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: இதோ, அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் உன் கையிலிருக்கிறது; அவன்மேல் மாத்திரம் உன் கையை நீட்டாதே என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

12. Then the Lord said to Satan, 'See, all that he has is in your power. Only do not put your hand on him.' So Satan went out from the Lord.

13. பின்பு ஒருநாள் யோபுடைய குமாரரும், அவன் குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்து, திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது,

13. On a day when Job's sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,

14. ஒரு ஆள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து: எருதுகள் உழுகிறபோது, கழுதைகள் அவைகளின் பக்கத்திலே மேய்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கையில்,

14. a man came to Job with news, saying, 'The oxen were pulling the plow and the donkeys were eating beside them.

15. சபேயர் அவைகள்மேல் விழுந்து, அவைகளைச் சாய்த்துக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்; வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

15. And the Sabeans came and took them. They also killed the servants with the sword. I alone have run away from them to tell you.'

16. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: வானத்திலிருந்து தேவனுடைய அக்கினி விழுந்து, ஆடுகளையும் வேலையாட்களையும் சுட்டெரித்துப்போட்டது; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

16. While he was still speaking, another man came and said, 'The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and destroyed them. I alone have gotten away to tell you.'

17. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: கல்தேயர் மூன்று பவுஞ்சாய் வந்து, ஒட்டகங்கள்மேல் விழுந்து, அவைகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள், வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

17. While he was still speaking, another came and said, 'The Babylonians divided into three groups and came to fight. They took the camels and killed the servants with the sword. I alone have gotten away to tell you.'

18. இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: உம்முடைய குமாரரும் உம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்துத் திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது,

18. While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.

19. வனாந்தரவழியாய்ப் பெருங்காற்று வந்து, அந்த வீட்டின் நாலு மூலையிலும் அடிக்க, அது பிள்ளைகளின்மேல் விழுந்ததினால் அவர்கள் இறந்து போனார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான்.

19. And see, a strong wind came from the desert and hit the four corners of the house. It fell on the young people and they are dead. I alone have gotten away to tell you.'

20. அப்பொழுது யோபு எழுந்திருந்து, தன் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, தன் தலையைச் சிரைத்து, தரையிலே விழுந்து பணிந்து:

20. Then Job stood up and tore his clothing and cut the hair from his head. And he fell to the ground and worshiped.

21. நிர்வாணியாய் என் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நிர்வாணியாய் அவ்விடத்துக்குத் திரும்புவேன்; கர்த்தர் கொடுத்தார், கர்த்தர் எடுத்தார்; கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்துக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் என்றான்.
1 தீமோத்தேயு 6:7

21. He said, 'Without clothing I was born from my mother, and without clothing I will return. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Praise the name of the Lord.'

22. இவையெல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு பாவஞ்செய்யவுமில்லை, தேவனைப்பற்றிக் குறைசொல்லவுமில்லை.

22. In all this Job did not sin or blame God.
