1. கர்த்தர் எலியாவைச் சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப் போகிறபோது, எலியா எலிசாவோடேகூடக் கில்காலிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

1. And it cometh to pass, at Jehovah's taking up Elijah in a whirlwind to the heavens, that Elijah goeth, and Elisha, from Gilgal,

2. எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னைப் பெத்தேல்மட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனார்கள்.

2. and Elijah saith unto Elisha, 'Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me unto Beth-El;' and Elisha saith, 'Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go down to Beth-El.

3. அப்பொழுது பெத்தேலிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

3. And sons of the prophets who [are] in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, 'Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, 'I also have known -- keep silent.'

4. பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: எலிசாவே, நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை எரிகோமட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் எரிகோவுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

4. And Elijah saith to him, 'Elisha, abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho;' and he saith, 'Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they come in to Jericho.

5. எரிகோவிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்று அவனைக் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

5. And sons of the prophets who [are] in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, 'Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, 'I also have known -- keep silent.'

6. பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை யோர்தானுக்கு அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் போனார்கள்.

6. And Elijah saith to him, 'Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan;' and he saith, 'Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go on both of them,

7. தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரரில் ஐம்பதுபேர் போய், தூரத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்றார்கள்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் யோர்தான் கரையிலே நின்றார்கள்.

7. -- and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off -- and both of them have stood by the Jordan.

8. அப்பொழுது எலியா, தன் சால்வையை எடுத்து முறுக்கித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்தது; அவர்கள் இருவரும் உலர்ந்த தரைவழியாய் அக்கரைக்குப் போனார்கள்.

8. And Elijah taketh his robe, and wrappeth [it] together, and smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and they pass over both of them on dry land.

9. அவர்கள் அக்கரைப்பட்டபின்பு, எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நான் உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுமுன்னே நான் உனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன, கேள் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: உம்மிடத்திலுள்ள ஆவியின்வரம் எனக்கு இரட்டிப்பாய்க் கிடைக்கும்படி வேண்டுகிறேன் என்றான்.

9. And it cometh to pass, at their passing over, that Elijah hath said unto Elisha, 'Ask, what do I do for thee before I am taken from thee?' and Elisha saith, 'Then let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit unto me;'

10. அதற்கு அவன்: அரிதான காரியத்தைக் கேட்டாய்; உன்னைவிட்டு நான் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுகையில் என்னை நீ கண்டால் உனக்குக் கிடைக்கும்; இல்லாவிட்டால் கிடையாது என்றான்.

10. and he saith, 'Thou hast asked a hard thing; if thou dost see me taken from thee, it is to thee so; and if not, it is not.'

11. அவர்கள் பேசிக்கொண்டு நடந்துபோகையில், இதோ, அக்கினிரதமும் அக்கினிக்குதிரைகளும் அவர்கள் நடுவாக வந்து இருவரையும் பிரித்தது; எலியா சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போனான்.

11. And it cometh to pass, they are going, going on and speaking, and lo, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and they separate between them both, and Elijah goeth up in a whirlwind, to the heavens.

12. அதை எலிசா கண்டு: என் தகப்பனே, என் தகப்பனே, இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு இரதமும் குதிரைவீரருமாய் இருந்தவரே என்று புலம்பினான்; அவனை அப்புறம் காணாமல், தன் வஸ்திரத்தைப் பிடித்து இரண்டு துண்டாகக் கிழித்தான்.

12. And Elisha is seeing, and he is crying, 'My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen;' and he hath not seen him again; and he taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them into two pieces.

13. பின்பு அவன் எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையை எடுத்துத் திரும்பிப்போய், யோர்தானின் கரையிலே நின்று,

13. And he taketh up the robe of Elijah, that fell from off him, and turneth back and standeth on the edge of the Jordan,

14. எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையைப் பிடித்து: எலியாவின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்கே என்று சொல்லித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; தண்ணீரை அடித்தவுடனே அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்ததினால் எலிசா இக்கரைப்பட்டான்.

14. and he taketh the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smiteth the waters, and saith, 'Where [is] Jehovah, God of Elijah -- even He?' and he smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passeth over.

15. எரிகோவில் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்ற தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் அவனைக் கண்டவுடனே, எலியாவின் ஆவி எலிசாவின்மேல் இறங்கியிருக்கிறது என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோய்த் தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து அவனை வணங்கி:

15. And they see him -- the sons of the prophets who [are] in Jericho -- over-against, and they say, 'Rested hath the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;' and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,

16. இதோ, உமது அடியாரோடே ஐம்பது பலவான்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் போய் உம்முடைய எஜமானைத் தேடும்படி உத்தரவு கொடும்; ஒருவேளை கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் அவரை எடுத்து, பர்வதங்களில் ஒன்றின் மேலாகிலும் பள்ளத்தாக்குகளில் ஒன்றிலாகிலும் கொண்டுபோய் வைத்திருப்பார் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: அவர்களை அனுப்பவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

16. and say unto him, 'Lo, we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour: let them go, we pray thee, and they seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Jehovah hath taken him up, and doth cast him on one of the hills, or into one of the valleys;' and he saith, 'Ye do not send.'

17. அவன் சலித்துப்போகுமட்டும் அவர்கள் அவனை அலட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தபடியால் அனுப்புங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே ஐம்பதுபேரை அனுப்பினார்கள்; அவர்கள் மூன்று நாள் அவனைத் தேடியும் காணாமல்,

17. And they press upon him, till he is ashamed, and he saith, 'Send ye;' and they send fifty men, and they seek three days, and have not found him;

18. எரிகோவிலிருந்த அவனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, அவன் இவர்களைப் பார்த்து: போகவேண்டாம் என்று நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லவில்லையா என்றான்.

18. and they turn back unto him -- and he is abiding in Jericho -- and he saith unto them, 'Did I not say unto you, Do not go?'

19. பின்பு அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் மனுஷர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, எங்கள் ஆண்டவன் காண்கிறபடி இந்தப் பட்டணம் குடியிருப்புக்கு நல்லது; தண்ணீரோ கெட்டது, நிலமும் பாழ்நிலம் என்றார்கள்.

19. And the men of the city say unto Elisha, 'Lo, we pray thee, the site of the city [is] good, as my lord seeth, and the waters [are] bad, and the earth sterile.'

20. அப்பொழுது அவன்: ஒரு புதுத்தோண்டியை எடுத்து, அதிலே உப்புப் போட்டுக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றான்; அதை அவனிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தபோது,

20. And he saith, 'Bring to me a new dish, and place there salt;' and they bring [it] unto him,

21. அவன் நீரூற்றண்டைக்குப் போய், உப்பை அதிலே போட்டு: இந்தத் தண்ணீரை ஆரோக்கியமாக்கினேன்; இனி இதினால் சாவும் வராது, நிலப்பாழும் இராது என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

21. and he goeth out unto the source of the waters, and casteth there salt, and saith, 'Thus said Jehovah, I have given healing to these waters; there is not thence any more death and sterility.'

22. எலிசா சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே அந்தத் தண்ணீர் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிறபடி ஆரோக்கியமாயிற்று.

22. And the waters are healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha, that he spake.

23. அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுப் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனான்; அவன் வழிநடந்துபோகையில் பிள்ளைகள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து வந்து, அவனைப் பார்த்து: மொட்டைத்தலையா ஏறிப்போ என்று சொல்லி நிந்தித்தார்கள்.

23. And he goeth up thence to Beth-El, and he is going up in the way, and little youths have come out from the city, and scoff at him, and say to him, 'Go up, bald-head! go up, bald-head!'

24. அப்பொழுது அவன் திரும்பி அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தரின் நாமத்திலே அவர்களைச் சபித்தான்; உடனே காட்டிலிருந்து இரண்டு கரடிகள் புறப்பட்டு வந்து, அவர்களில் நாற்பத்திரண்டு பிள்ளைகளைப் பீறிப்போட்டது.

24. And he looketh behind him, and seeth them, and declareth them vile in the name of Jehovah, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.

25. அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுக் கர்மேல் பர்வதத்திற்குப்போய், அங்கேயிருந்து சமாரியாவுக்குத் திரும்பினான்.

25. And he goeth thence unto the hill of Carmel, and thence he hath turned back to Samaria.
