1. கர்த்தர் எலியாவைச் சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப் போகிறபோது, எலியா எலிசாவோடேகூடக் கில்காலிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

1. And it came to pass, when Yahweh was about to take up Elijah in a storm into the heavens, that Elijah departed, with Elisha, from Gilgal.

2. எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னைப் பெத்தேல்மட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனார்கள்.

2. Then said Elijah unto Elisha Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.

3. அப்பொழுது பெத்தேலிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

3. And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came forth unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord, from thy head? And he said I also, know, be silent.

4. பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: எலிசாவே, நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை எரிகோமட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் எரிகோவுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

4. Then Elijah said to him Elisha, I pray thee, tarry here, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to Jericho. And he said By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.

5. எரிகோவிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்று அவனைக் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

5. Then drew near the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord from thy head? And he said I also, know; be silent.

6. பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை யோர்தானுக்கு அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் போனார்கள்.

6. And Elijah said to him Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to the Jordan. And he said By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they two, went on.

7. தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரரில் ஐம்பதுபேர் போய், தூரத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்றார்கள்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் யோர்தான் கரையிலே நின்றார்கள்.

7. But, fifty men of the sons of the prophets, came, and stood over against them, afar off, and, they two, stood by the Jordan.

8. அப்பொழுது எலியா, தன் சால்வையை எடுத்து முறுக்கித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்தது; அவர்கள் இருவரும் உலர்ந்த தரைவழியாய் அக்கரைக்குப் போனார்கள்.

8. Then Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided, hither and thither, so that they two, passed over, on dry ground.

9. அவர்கள் அக்கரைப்பட்டபின்பு, எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நான் உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுமுன்னே நான் உனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன, கேள் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: உம்மிடத்திலுள்ள ஆவியின்வரம் எனக்கு இரட்டிப்பாய்க் கிடைக்கும்படி வேண்டுகிறேன் என்றான்.

9. And it came to pass, as they went over, that, Elijah, said unto Elisha Ask, what I shall do for thee, ere yet I be taken from thee. And Elisha said, Let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit upon me.

10. அதற்கு அவன்: அரிதான காரியத்தைக் கேட்டாய்; உன்னைவிட்டு நான் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுகையில் என்னை நீ கண்டால் உனக்குக் கிடைக்கும்; இல்லாவிட்டால் கிடையாது என்றான்.

10. And he said Thou hast asked a hard thing, if thou see me when taken from thee, thou shall have it, so, but, if not, thou shalt not have it.

11. அவர்கள் பேசிக்கொண்டு நடந்துபோகையில், இதோ, அக்கினிரதமும் அக்கினிக்குதிரைகளும் அவர்கள் நடுவாக வந்து இருவரையும் பிரித்தது; எலியா சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போனான்.

11. And it came to pass, as they were going on and on and talking, that lo! there was a chariot of fire, with horses of fire, which parted, those two, asunder, and Elijah went up in a storm, into the heavens.

12. அதை எலிசா கண்டு: என் தகப்பனே, என் தகப்பனே, இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு இரதமும் குதிரைவீரருமாய் இருந்தவரே என்று புலம்பினான்; அவனை அப்புறம் காணாமல், தன் வஸ்திரத்தைப் பிடித்து இரண்டு துண்டாகக் கிழித்தான்.

12. And, as soon as Elisha saw it, he, began crying out My father! my father! The chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof! But, when he could see him no longer, he took hold of his clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

13. பின்பு அவன் எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையை எடுத்துத் திரும்பிப்போய், யோர்தானின் கரையிலே நின்று,

13. Then took he up the mantle of Elijah, which had fallen from him, and returned and stood, on the brink of the Jordan;

14. எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையைப் பிடித்து: எலியாவின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்கே என்று சொல்லித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; தண்ணீரை அடித்தவுடனே அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்ததினால் எலிசா இக்கரைப்பட்டான்.

14. and took the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah? And, when, he also, smote the waters, they were divided, hither and thither, and Elisha, passed over.

15. எரிகோவில் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்ற தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் அவனைக் கண்டவுடனே, எலியாவின் ஆவி எலிசாவின்மேல் இறங்கியிருக்கிறது என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோய்த் தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து அவனை வணங்கி:

15. And, when the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, over against him, saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah, resteth, on Elisha. So they came to meet him, and bowed themselves down to him, to the ground.

16. இதோ, உமது அடியாரோடே ஐம்பது பலவான்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் போய் உம்முடைய எஜமானைத் தேடும்படி உத்தரவு கொடும்; ஒருவேளை கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் அவரை எடுத்து, பர்வதங்களில் ஒன்றின் மேலாகிலும் பள்ளத்தாக்குகளில் ஒன்றிலாகிலும் கொண்டுபோய் வைத்திருப்பார் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: அவர்களை அனுப்பவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

16. Then said they unto him Lo! we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Yahweh have borne him away, and cast him on one of the mountains, or into one of the valleys. And he said Ye shall not send.

17. அவன் சலித்துப்போகுமட்டும் அவர்கள் அவனை அலட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தபடியால் அனுப்புங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே ஐம்பதுபேரை அனுப்பினார்கள்; அவர்கள் மூன்று நாள் அவனைத் தேடியும் காணாமல்,

17. But, when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said Send. So they sent fifty men, and made search three days, but found him not.

18. எரிகோவிலிருந்த அவனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, அவன் இவர்களைப் பார்த்து: போகவேண்டாம் என்று நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லவில்லையா என்றான்.

18. And, when they came back unto him, he, having tarried at Jericho, he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Do not go?

19. பின்பு அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் மனுஷர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, எங்கள் ஆண்டவன் காண்கிறபடி இந்தப் பட்டணம் குடியிருப்புக்கு நல்லது; தண்ணீரோ கெட்டது, நிலமும் பாழ்நிலம் என்றார்கள்.

19. And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Lo! we pray thee, the situation of the city, is good, as, my lord, seeth, but, the waters, are bad, and, the land, apt to miscarry.

20. அப்பொழுது அவன்: ஒரு புதுத்தோண்டியை எடுத்து, அதிலே உப்புப் போட்டுக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றான்; அதை அவனிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தபோது,

20. And he said Bring me a new bowl, and put therein, salt. So they brought it unto him;

21. அவன் நீரூற்றண்டைக்குப் போய், உப்பை அதிலே போட்டு: இந்தத் தண்ணீரை ஆரோக்கியமாக்கினேன்; இனி இதினால் சாவும் வராது, நிலப்பாழும் இராது என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

21. and he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast therein, saith, and said Thus, saith Yahweh, I have healed these waters; there shall come from thence, no longer, death or aptness to miscarry.

22. எலிசா சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே அந்தத் தண்ணீர் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிறபடி ஆரோக்கியமாயிற்று.

22. So the waters were healed, as they remain unto this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spake.

23. அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுப் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனான்; அவன் வழிநடந்துபோகையில் பிள்ளைகள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து வந்து, அவனைப் பார்த்து: மொட்டைத்தலையா ஏறிப்போ என்று சொல்லி நிந்தித்தார்கள்.

23. And he went up from thence, to Bethel, and, as he was going up on the way, some lads, came forth, out of the city, and made mockery of him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head!

24. அப்பொழுது அவன் திரும்பி அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தரின் நாமத்திலே அவர்களைச் சபித்தான்; உடனே காட்டிலிருந்து இரண்டு கரடிகள் புறப்பட்டு வந்து, அவர்களில் நாற்பத்திரண்டு பிள்ளைகளைப் பீறிப்போட்டது.

24. And, when he turned round and saw them, he cursed them, in the name of Yahweh, and there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tare, of them, forty-two youths.

25. அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுக் கர்மேல் பர்வதத்திற்குப்போய், அங்கேயிருந்து சமாரியாவுக்குத் திரும்பினான்.

25. And he went from thence, unto Mount Carmel, and, from thence, he returned, to Samaria.
