1. ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் உண்டான பஞ்சத்தை அல்லாமல், பின்னும் ஒரு பஞ்சம் தேசத்தில் உண்டாயிற்று; அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு பெலிஸ்தருக்கு ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கினிடத்தில் கேராருக்குப் போனான்.

1. And there fell a dearth in the land, passing the first dearth that fell in the days of Abraham. Wherefore Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

2. கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: நீ எகிப்துக்குப் போகாமல், நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லும் தேசத்திலே குடியிரு.

2. Then the LORD appeared unto him and said: go not down into Egypt, but bide in the land which I say unto thee:

3. இந்தத் தேசத்திலே வாசம்பண்ணு; நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருந்து, உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிப்பேன்; நான் உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் இந்தத் தேசங்கள் யாவையும் தந்து, உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமுக்கு நான் இட்ட ஆணையை நிறைவேற்றுவேன்.

3. Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee: for unto thee and unto thy seed I will give all these countries. And I will perform the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father,

4. ஆபிரகாம் என் சொல்லுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து, என் விதிகளையும், என் கற்பனைகளையும், என் நியமங்களையும், என் பிரமாணங்களையும் கைக்கொண்டபடியினால்,

4. and will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries. And thorow thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed,

5. நான் உன் சந்ததியை வானத்தின் நட்சத்திரங்களைப்போலப் பெருகப்பண்ணி, உன் சந்ததிக்கு இந்தத் தேசங்கள் யாவையும் தருவேன்; உன் சந்ததிக்குள் பூமியிலுள்ள சகல ஜாதிகளும் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படும் என்றார்.

5. because that Abraham hearkened unto my voice and kept mine ordinances, commandments, statutes and laws.

6. ஈசாக்கு கேராரிலே குடியிருந்தான்.

6. And Isaac dwelled in Gerar.

7. அவ்விடத்து மனிதர்கள் அவன் மனைவியைக்குறித்து விசாரித்தபோது: இவள் என் சகோதரி என்றான். ரெபெக்காள் பார்வைக்கு அழகுள்ளவளானபடியால், அவ்விடத்து மனிதர்கள் அவள்நிமித்தம் தன்னைக் கொல்லுவார்கள் என்று எண்ணி, அவளைத் தன் மனைவி என்று சொல்லப் பயந்தான்.

7. And the men of the place asked him of his wife, and he said that she was his sister: for he feared to call her his wife lest the men of the place should have killed him for her sake, because she was beautiful to the eye.

8. அவன் அங்கே நெடுநாள் தங்கியிருக்கையில், பெலிஸ்தருக்கு ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு ஜன்னல் வழியாய்ப் பார்க்கும்போது, ஈசாக்கு தன் மனைவியாகிய ரெபெக்காளோடே விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறதைக் கண்டான்.

8. And it happened after he had been there long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw Isaac sporting with Rebecca his wife.

9. அபிமெலேக்கு ஈசாக்கை அழைத்து: அவள் உன் மனைவியாயிருக்கிறாளே! பின்னை ஏன் அவளை உன் சகோதரி என்று சொன்னாய் என்றான். அதற்கு ஈசாக்கு: அவள் நிமித்தம் நான் சாகாதபடிக்கு, இப்படிச் சொன்னேன் என்றான்.

9. And Abimelech sent for Isaac and said: see, she is of a surety thy wife, and why saidest thou that she was thy sister? And Isaac said unto him: I thought that I might peradventure have died for her sake.

10. அதற்கு அபிமெலேக்கு: எங்களிடத்தில் ஏன் இப்படிச் செய்தாய்? ஜனங்களுக்குள் யாராகிலும் உன் மனைவியோடே சயனிக்கவும், எங்கள்மேல் பழி சுமரவும் நீ இடமுண்டாக்கினாயே என்றான்.

10. Then said Abimelech: why hast thou done this unto us? one of the people might lightly have lain by thy wife and so shouldest thou have brought sin upon us.

11. பின்பு, அபிமெலேக்கு: இந்தப் புருஷனையாகிலும் இவன் மனைவியையாகிலும் தொடுகிறவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படுவான் என்று எல்லா ஜனங்களும் அறியச் சொன்னான்.

11. Then Abimelech charged all his people saying: he that toucheth this man or his wife, shall surely die for it.

12. ஈசாக்கு அந்தத் தேசத்தில் விதைவிதைத்தான்; கர்த்தர் அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்ததினால் அந்த வருஷத்தில் நூறுமடங்கு பலன் அடைந்தான்;

12. And Isaac sowed in the land, and found in the same year an hundred bushels: for the LORD blessed him,

13. அவன் ஐசுவரியவானாகி, வரவர விருத்தியடைந்து, மகா பெரியவனானான்.

13. and the man waxed mighty, and went forth and grew till he was exceeding great,

14. அவனுக்கு ஆட்டு மந்தையும், மாட்டு மந்தையும், அநேக பணிவிடைக்காரரும் இருந்தபடியினாலே பெலிஸ்தர் அவன் பேரில் பொறாமைகொண்டு,

14. that he had possession of sheep, of oxen and a mighty household: so that the Philistines had envy at him:

15. அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் அவனுடைய வேலைக்காரர் வெட்டின துரவுகளையெல்லாம் தூர்த்து மண்ணினால் நிரப்பிப்போட்டார்கள்.

15. Insomuch that they stopped and filled up with earth, all the wells which his father's servants digged in his father Abraham's time.

16. அபிமெலேக்கு ஈசாக்கை நோக்கி: நீ எங்களை விட்டுப் போய்விடு; எங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும் மிகவும் பலத்தவனானாய் என்றான்.

16. Then said Abimelech unto Isaac: get thee from me, for thou art mightier than we a great deal.

17. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு அவ்விடம் விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, கேராரின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே கூடாரம் போட்டு, அங்கே குடியிருந்து,

17. Then Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley Gerar and dwelt there.

18. தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் வெட்டினவைகளும், ஆபிரகாம் மரித்தபின் பெலிஸ்தர் தூர்த்துப்போட்டவைகளுமான துரவுகளை மறுபடியும் தோண்டி, தன் தகப்பன் அவைகளுக்கு இட்டிருந்த பேர்களின்படியே அவைகளுக்குப் பேரிட்டான்.

18. And Isaac digged again, the wells of water which they digged in the days of Abraham his father which the Philistines had stopped after the death of Abraham, and gave them the same names which his father gave them.

19. ஈசாக்குடைய வேலைக்காரர் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே வெட்டி, அங்கே சுரக்கும் நீரூற்றைக் கண்டார்கள்.

19. As Isaac's servants digged in the valley, they found a well of springing(living) water.

20. கேராரூர் மேய்ப்பர் இந்தத் தண்ணீர் தங்களுடையது என்று சொல்லி, ஈசாக்குடைய மேய்ப்பருடனே வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அவர்கள் தன்னோடே வாக்குவாதம் பண்ணினபடியால், அந்தத் துரவுக்கு ஏசேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

20. And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen saying: the water is ours. Then called he the well Eseck because they strove with him.

21. வேறொரு துரவை வெட்டினார்கள்; அதைக்குறித்தும் வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள்; ஆகையால் அதற்கு சித்னா என்று பேரிட்டான்.

21. Then digged they another well, and they strove for that also. Therefore called he it Sitena.

22. பின்பு அவ்விடம்விட்டுப் பெயர்ந்துபோய், வேறொரு துரவை வெட்டினான்; அதைக்குறித்து அவர்கள் வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணவில்லை; அப்பொழுது அவன்: நாம் தேசத்தில் பலுகும்படிக்கு, இப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் நமக்கு இடம் உண்டாக்கினார் என்று சொல்லி, அதற்கு ரெகொபோத் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

22. And then he departed thence, and digged another well for the which they strove not: therefore called he it Rehoboth, saying: the LORD hath now made us room, and we are increased upon the earth.

23. அங்கேயிருந்து பெயெர்செபாவுக்குப் போனான்.

23. Afterward departed he thence and came to Berseba.

24. அன்று ராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: நான் உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமுடைய தேவன், பயப்படாதே, நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருந்து, என் ஊழியக்காரனாகிய ஆபிரகாமினிமித்தம் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து, உன் சந்ததியைப் பெருகப்பண்ணுவேன் என்றார்.

24. And the LORD appeared unto him the same night and said: I am the God of Abraham thy father, fear not for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

25. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தைத் தொழுதுகொண்டு, அங்கே தன் கூடாரத்தைப் போட்டான். அவ்விடத்தில் ஈசாக்கின் வேலைக்காரர் ஒரு துரவை வெட்டினார்கள்.

25. And then he builded an altar there and called upon the name of the LORD, and there pitched his tent. And there Isaac's servants digged a well.

26. அபிமெலேக்கும் அவன் சிநேகிதனாகிய அகுசாத்தும் அவன் சேனாபதியாகிய பிகோலும், கேராரிலிருந்து அவனிடத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

26. Then came Abimelech to him from Gerar and Ahusath his friend and Phicoll his chief captain.

27. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு அவர்களை நோக்கி: ஏன் என்னிடத்தில் வந்தீர்கள்? நீங்கள் என்னைப் பகைத்து, என்னை உங்களிடத்தில் இராதபடிக்குத் துரத்திவிட்டீர்களே என்றான்.

27. And Isaac said unto them: wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me and have put me away from you?

28. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நிச்சயமாய் கர்த்தர் உம்மோடேகூட இருக்கிறார் என்று கண்டோம்; ஆகையால் எங்களுக்கும் உமக்கும் ஒரு ஆணை ஏற்பாடு உண்டாகவேண்டும் என்று நாங்கள் நிர்ணயம் பண்ணினோம்.

28. Then said they: we saw that the LORD was with thee, and therefore we said that there should be an oath betwixt us and thee, and that we would make a bond with thee:

29. நாங்கள் உம்மைத் தொடாமல், நன்மையையே உமக்குச் செய்து, உம்மைச் சமாதானத்தோடே அனுப்பிவிட்டதுபோல, நீரும் எங்களுக்குத் தீங்குசெய்யாதபடிக்கு உம்மோடே உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொள்ள வந்தோம்; நீர் கர்த்தரால் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவராமே என்றார்கள்.

29. that thou shouldest do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and have done unto thee nothing but good, and send thee away in peace: for thou art now the blessed of the LORD.

30. அவன் அவர்களுக்கு விருந்துபண்ணினான், அவர்கள் புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்.

30. And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

31. அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள். பின்பு ஈசாக்கு அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் அவனிடத்திலிருந்து சமாதானத்தோடே போய்விட்டார்கள்.

31. And they rose up by times in the morning and sware one to another. And Isaac sent them away. And they departed from him in peace.

32. அந்நாளில்தானே ஈசாக்கின் வேலைக்காரர் வந்து, தாங்கள் துரவு வெட்டின செய்தியை அவனுக்கு அறிவித்து, தண்ணீர் கண்டோம் என்றார்கள்.

32. And the same day came Isaac's servants, and told him of a well which they had digged: and said unto him, that they had found water.

33. அதற்கு சேபா என்று பேரிட்டான்; ஆகையால் அந்த ஊரின் பேர் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் பெயெர்செபா என்னப்படுகிறது.

33. And he called it Seba, wherefore the name of the city is called Berseba unto this day.

34. ஏசா நாற்பது வயதானபோது, ஏத்தியனான பெயேரியினுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய யூதீத்தையும், ஏத்தியனான ஏலோனுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய பஸ்மாத்தையும் விவாகம்பண்ணினான்.

34. When Esau was forty year old, he took to wife Judith the daughter of Bery an Hethite, and Basmath the daughter of Elon an Hethite

35. அவர்கள் ஈசாக்குக்கும் ரெபெக்காளுக்கும் மனநோவாயிருந்தார்கள்.

35. also, which were disobedient unto Isaac and Rebecca.
