1. ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் உண்டான பஞ்சத்தை அல்லாமல், பின்னும் ஒரு பஞ்சம் தேசத்தில் உண்டாயிற்று; அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு பெலிஸ்தருக்கு ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கினிடத்தில் கேராருக்குப் போனான்.

1. Once during Abraham's lifetime, the fields had not produced enough grain, and now the same thing happened. So Isaac went to King Abimelech of the Philistines in the land of Gerar,

2. கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: நீ எகிப்துக்குப் போகாமல், நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லும் தேசத்திலே குடியிரு.

2. because the LORD had appeared to Isaac and said: Isaac, stay away from Egypt! I will show you where I want you to go.

3. இந்தத் தேசத்திலே வாசம்பண்ணு; நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருந்து, உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிப்பேன்; நான் உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் இந்தத் தேசங்கள் யாவையும் தந்து, உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமுக்கு நான் இட்ட ஆணையை நிறைவேற்றுவேன்.

3. You will live there as a foreigner, but I will be with you and bless you. I will keep my promise to your father Abraham by giving this land to you and your descendants.

4. I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky, and I will give your descendants all of this land. They will be a blessing to every nation on earth,

5. because Abraham did everything I told him to do.

6. Isaac moved to Gerar

7. அவ்விடத்து மனிதர்கள் அவன் மனைவியைக்குறித்து விசாரித்தபோது: இவள் என் சகோதரி என்றான். ரெபெக்காள் பார்வைக்கு அழகுள்ளவளானபடியால், அவ்விடத்து மனிதர்கள் அவள்நிமித்தம் தன்னைக் கொல்லுவார்கள் என்று எண்ணி, அவளைத் தன் மனைவி என்று சொல்லப் பயந்தான்.

7. with his beautiful wife Rebekah. He was afraid that someone might kill him to get her, and so he told everyone that Rebekah was his sister.

8. அவன் அங்கே நெடுநாள் தங்கியிருக்கையில், பெலிஸ்தருக்கு ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு ஜன்னல் வழியாய்ப் பார்க்கும்போது, ஈசாக்கு தன் மனைவியாகிய ரெபெக்காளோடே விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறதைக் கண்டான்.

8. After Isaac had been there a long time, King Abimelech looked out a window and saw Isaac hugging and kissing Rebekah.

9. அபிமெலேக்கு ஈசாக்கை அழைத்து: அவள் உன் மனைவியாயிருக்கிறாளே! பின்னை ஏன் அவளை உன் சகோதரி என்று சொன்னாய் என்றான். அதற்கு ஈசாக்கு: அவள் நிமித்தம் நான் சாகாதபடிக்கு, இப்படிச் சொன்னேன் என்றான்.

9. Abimelech called him in and said, 'Rebekah must be your wife! Why did you say she is your sister?' 'Because I thought someone would kill me,' Isaac answered.

10. அதற்கு அபிமெலேக்கு: எங்களிடத்தில் ஏன் இப்படிச் செய்தாய்? ஜனங்களுக்குள் யாராகிலும் உன் மனைவியோடே சயனிக்கவும், எங்கள்மேல் பழி சுமரவும் நீ இடமுண்டாக்கினாயே என்றான்.

10. Don't you know what you've done?' Abimelech exclaimed. 'If someone had slept with her, you would have made our whole nation guilty!'

11. பின்பு, அபிமெலேக்கு: இந்தப் புருஷனையாகிலும் இவன் மனைவியையாகிலும் தொடுகிறவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படுவான் என்று எல்லா ஜனங்களும் அறியச் சொன்னான்.

11. Then Abimelech warned his people that anyone who even touched Isaac or Rebekah would be put to death.

12. ஈசாக்கு அந்தத் தேசத்தில் விதைவிதைத்தான்; கர்த்தர் அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்ததினால் அந்த வருஷத்தில் நூறுமடங்கு பலன் அடைந்தான்;

12. Isaac planted grain and had a good harvest that same year. The LORD blessed him,

13. அவன் ஐசுவரியவானாகி, வரவர விருத்தியடைந்து, மகா பெரியவனானான்.

13. and Isaac was so successful that he became very rich.

14. அவனுக்கு ஆட்டு மந்தையும், மாட்டு மந்தையும், அநேக பணிவிடைக்காரரும் இருந்தபடியினாலே பெலிஸ்தர் அவன் பேரில் பொறாமைகொண்டு,

14. In fact, the Philistines were jealous of the large number of sheep, goats, and slaves that Isaac owned,

15. அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் அவனுடைய வேலைக்காரர் வெட்டின துரவுகளையெல்லாம் தூர்த்து மண்ணினால் நிரப்பிப்போட்டார்கள்.

15. and they stopped up the wells that Abraham's servants had dug before his death.

16. அபிமெலேக்கு ஈசாக்கை நோக்கி: நீ எங்களை விட்டுப் போய்விடு; எங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும் மிகவும் பலத்தவனானாய் என்றான்.

16. Finally, Abimelech said, 'Isaac, I want you to leave our country. You have become too powerful to stay here.'

17. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு அவ்விடம் விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, கேராரின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே கூடாரம் போட்டு, அங்கே குடியிருந்து,

17. Isaac left and settled in Gerar Valley,

18. தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் நாட்களில் வெட்டினவைகளும், ஆபிரகாம் மரித்தபின் பெலிஸ்தர் தூர்த்துப்போட்டவைகளுமான துரவுகளை மறுபடியும் தோண்டி, தன் தகப்பன் அவைகளுக்கு இட்டிருந்த பேர்களின்படியே அவைகளுக்குப் பேரிட்டான்.

18. where he cleaned out those wells that the Philistines had stopped up. Isaac also gave each of the wells the same name that Abraham had given to them.

19. ஈசாக்குடைய வேலைக்காரர் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே வெட்டி, அங்கே சுரக்கும் நீரூற்றைக் கண்டார்கள்.

19. While his servants were digging in the valley, they found a spring-fed well.

20. கேராரூர் மேய்ப்பர் இந்தத் தண்ணீர் தங்களுடையது என்று சொல்லி, ஈசாக்குடைய மேய்ப்பருடனே வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அவர்கள் தன்னோடே வாக்குவாதம் பண்ணினபடியால், அந்தத் துரவுக்கு ஏசேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

20. But the shepherds of Gerar Valley quarreled with Isaac's shepherds and claimed the water belonged to them. So the well was named 'Quarrel,' because they had quarreled with Isaac.

21. வேறொரு துரவை வெட்டினார்கள்; அதைக்குறித்தும் வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள்; ஆகையால் அதற்கு சித்னா என்று பேரிட்டான்.

21. Isaac's servants dug another well, and the shepherds also quarreled about it. So that well was named 'Jealous.'

22. பின்பு அவ்விடம்விட்டுப் பெயர்ந்துபோய், வேறொரு துரவை வெட்டினான்; அதைக்குறித்து அவர்கள் வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணவில்லை; அப்பொழுது அவன்: நாம் தேசத்தில் பலுகும்படிக்கு, இப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் நமக்கு இடம் உண்டாக்கினார் என்று சொல்லி, அதற்கு ரெகொபோத் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

22. Finally, they dug one more well. There was no quarreling this time, and the well was named 'Lots of Room,' because the LORD had given them room and would make them very successful.

23. அங்கேயிருந்து பெயெர்செபாவுக்குப் போனான்.

23. Isaac went on to Beersheba,

24. அன்று ராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: நான் உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமுடைய தேவன், பயப்படாதே, நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருந்து, என் ஊழியக்காரனாகிய ஆபிரகாமினிமித்தம் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து, உன் சந்ததியைப் பெருகப்பண்ணுவேன் என்றார்.

24. where the LORD appeared to him that night and told him, 'Don't be afraid! I am the God who was worshiped by your father Abraham, my servant. I will be with you and bless you, and because of Abraham I will give you many descendants.'

25. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தைத் தொழுதுகொண்டு, அங்கே தன் கூடாரத்தைப் போட்டான். அவ்விடத்தில் ஈசாக்கின் வேலைக்காரர் ஒரு துரவை வெட்டினார்கள்.

25. Isaac built an altar there and worshiped the LORD. Then he set up camp, and his servants started digging a well.

26. அபிமெலேக்கும் அவன் சிநேகிதனாகிய அகுசாத்தும் அவன் சேனாபதியாகிய பிகோலும், கேராரிலிருந்து அவனிடத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

26. Meanwhile, Abimelech had left Gerar and was taking his advisor Ahuzzath and his army commander Phicol to see Isaac.

27. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு அவர்களை நோக்கி: ஏன் என்னிடத்தில் வந்தீர்கள்? நீங்கள் என்னைப் பகைத்து, என்னை உங்களிடத்தில் இராதபடிக்குத் துரத்திவிட்டீர்களே என்றான்.

27. When they arrived, Isaac asked, 'Why are you here? Didn't you send me away because you hated me?'

28. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நிச்சயமாய் கர்த்தர் உம்மோடேகூட இருக்கிறார் என்று கண்டோம்; ஆகையால் எங்களுக்கும் உமக்கும் ஒரு ஆணை ஏற்பாடு உண்டாகவேண்டும் என்று நாங்கள் நிர்ணயம் பண்ணினோம்.

28. They answered, 'We now know for certain that the LORD is with you, and we have decided there needs to be a peace treaty between you and us. So let's make a solemn agreement

29. நாங்கள் உம்மைத் தொடாமல், நன்மையையே உமக்குச் செய்து, உம்மைச் சமாதானத்தோடே அனுப்பிவிட்டதுபோல, நீரும் எங்களுக்குத் தீங்குசெய்யாதபடிக்கு உம்மோடே உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொள்ள வந்தோம்; நீர் கர்த்தரால் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவராமே என்றார்கள்.

29. not to harm each other. Remember, we have never hurt you, and when we sent you away, we let you go in peace. The LORD has truly blessed you.'

30. அவன் அவர்களுக்கு விருந்துபண்ணினான், அவர்கள் புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்.

30. Isaac gave a big feast for them, and everyone ate and drank.

31. அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள். பின்பு ஈசாக்கு அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் அவனிடத்திலிருந்து சமாதானத்தோடே போய்விட்டார்கள்.

31. Early the next morning Isaac and the others made a solemn agreement, then he let them go in peace.

32. அந்நாளில்தானே ஈசாக்கின் வேலைக்காரர் வந்து, தாங்கள் துரவு வெட்டின செய்தியை அவனுக்கு அறிவித்து, தண்ணீர் கண்டோம் என்றார்கள்.

32. Later that same day Isaac's servants came and said, 'We've struck water!'

33. அதற்கு சேபா என்று பேரிட்டான்; ஆகையால் அந்த ஊரின் பேர் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் பெயெர்செபா என்னப்படுகிறது.

33. So Isaac named the well Shibah, and the town is still called Beersheba.

34. ஏசா நாற்பது வயதானபோது, ஏத்தியனான பெயேரியினுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய யூதீத்தையும், ஏத்தியனான ஏலோனுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய பஸ்மாத்தையும் விவாகம்பண்ணினான்.

34. When Esau was forty, he married Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

35. அவர்கள் ஈசாக்குக்கும் ரெபெக்காளுக்கும் மனநோவாயிருந்தார்கள்.

35. But these two women brought a lot of grief to his parents Isaac and Rebekah.
