1. அப்பொழுது கிதியோனாகிய யெருபாகாலும் அவனோடிருந்த ஜனங்கள் யாவரும் காலமே எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, ஆரோத் என்னும் நீருற்றின் கிட்டப் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; மீதியானியரின் பாளயம் அவனுக்கு வடக்கே மோரே மேட்டிற்குப் பின்னான பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே இருந்தது.

1. Then Jerubbaal, that is, Gideon, and all the people with him, got up early and put up their tents by the side of the water-spring of Harod; the tents of Midian were on the north side of him, under the hill of Moreh in the valley.

2. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நான் மீதியானியரை உன்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்தின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கிறதற்கு அவர்கள் மிகுதியாயிருக்கிறார்கள்; என் கை என்னை இரட்சித்தது என்று இஸ்ரவேல் எனக்கு விரோதமாக வீம்பு பேசுகிறதற்கு இடமாகும்.

2. And the Lord said to Gideon, So great is the number of your people, that if I give the Midianites into their hands they will be uplifted in pride over me and will say, I myself have been my saviour.

3. ஆகையால் பயமும் திகிலும் உள்ளவன் எவனோ அவன் திரும்பி, கீலேயாத் மலைகளிலிருந்து விரைவாய் ஓடிப்போகக்கடவன் என்று, நீ ஜனங்களின் செவிகள் கேட்கப் பிரசித்தப்படுத்து என்றார்; அப்பொழுது ஜனத்தில் இருபத்தீராயிரம்பேர் திரும்பிப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; பதினாயிரம்பேர் மீதியாயிருந்தார்கள்.

3. So now, let it be given out to the people that anyone who is shaking with fear is to go back from Mount Galud. So twenty-two thousand of the people went back, but there were still ten thousand.

4. கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் அதிகம், அவர்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணு; அங்கே அவர்களைப் பரீட்சித்துக்காட்டுவேன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாம் என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வரக்கடவன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாகாது என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வராதிருக்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

4. Then the Lord said to Gideon, There are still more people than is necessary; take them down to the water so that I may put them to the test for you there; then whoever I say is to go with you will go, and whoever I say is not to go will not go.

5. அப்படியே அவன் ஜனங்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணினான்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: தண்ணீரை ஒரு நாய் நக்கும்பிரகாரமாக அதைத் தன் நாவினாலே நக்குகிறவன் எவனோ அவனைத் தனியேயும், குடிக்கிறதற்கு முழங்கால் ஊன்றிக்குனிகிறவன் எவனோ, அவனைத் தனியேயும் நிறுத்து என்றார்.

5. So he took the people down to the water; and the Lord said to Gideon, Put on one side by themselves all those drinking up the water with their tongues like a dog; and in the same way, all those who go down on their knees to the water while drinking.

6. தங்கள் கையால் அள்ளி, தங்கள் வாய்க்கெடுத்து, நக்கிக்கொண்டவர்களின் இலக்கம் முந்நூறுபேர்; மற்ற ஜனங்களெல்லாம் தண்ணீர் குடிக்கிறதற்கு முழங்கால் ஊன்றிக் குனிந்தார்கள்.

6. Now the number of those who took up the water with their tongues was three hundred; all the rest of the people went down on their knees to the water.

7. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நக்கிக்குடித்த அந்த முந்நூறுபேராலே நான் உங்களை இரட்சித்து, மீதியானியரை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன், மற்ற ஜனங்களெல்லாரும் தங்கள் தங்கள் இடத்திற்குப் போகக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

7. And the Lord said to Gideon, By those three hundred who were drinking with their tongues I will give you salvation and give the Midianites into your hands; let the rest of the people go away, every man to his place.

8. அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் தங்கள் கையில் தின்பண்டங்களையும் எக்காளங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்; மற்ற இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரையும் தங்கள்தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டு, அந்த முந்நூறுபேரை மாத்திரம் வைத்துக்கொண்டான்; மீதியானியரின் சேனை அவனுக்குத் தாழ்விடமான பள்ளத்தாக்கில் இருந்தது.

8. So they took the vessels of the people, and their horns from their hands, and he sent them away, every man to his tent, keeping only the three hundred; and the tents of Midian were lower down in the valley.

9. அன்று இராத்திரி கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, அந்தச் சேனையினிடத்திற்குப் போ; அதை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

9. The same night the Lord said to him, Up! go down now against their army, for I have given them into your hands.

10. போகப் பயப்பட்டாயானால், முதல் நீயும் உன் வேலைக்காரனாகிய பூராவும் சேனையினிடத்திற்குப் போய்,

10. But if you have fear of going down, take your servant Purah with you and go down to the tents;

11. அங்கே என்ன பேசுகிறார்கள் என்று கேள்; பின்பு சேனையினிடத்திற்குப் போக, உன் கைகள் திடப்படும் என்றார்; அப்படியே அவனும் அவன் வேலைக்காரனாகிய பூராவும் சேனையின் முன்னணியிலே ஜாமம் காக்கிறவர்களின் இடமட்டும் போனார்கள்.

11. And after hearing what they are saying, you will get strength to go down against the army. So he went down with his servant Purah to the outer line of the tents of the armed men.

12. மீதியானியரும், அமலேக்கியரும், சகல கிழக்கத்திய புத்திரரும், வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போலத் திரளாய்ப் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே படுத்துக்கிடந்தார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களுக்கும் கணக்கில்லை, கடற்கரை மணலைப்போலத் திரளாயிருந்தது.

12. Now the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the people of the east were covering the valley like locusts; and their camels were like the sand by the seaside, without number.

13. கிதியோன் வந்தபோது, ஒருவன் மற்றொருவனுக்கு ஒரு சொப்பனத்தைச் சொன்னான். அதாவது இதோ ஒரு சொப்பனத்தைக் கண்டேன்; சுட்டிருந்த ஒரு வாற்கோதுமை அப்பம் மீதியானியரின் பாளயத்திற்கு உருண்டுவந்தது, அது கூடாரமட்டும் வந்தபோது, அதை விழத்தள்ளிக் கவிழ்த்துப்போட்டது, கூடாரம் விழுந்துகிடந்தது என்றான்.

13. When Gideon came there, a man was giving his friend an account of his dream, saying, See, I had a dream about a cake of barley bread which, falling into the tents of Midian, came on to the tent, overturning it so that it was stretched out flat on the earth.

14. அப்பொழுது மற்றவன்; இது யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் என்னும் இஸ்ரவேலனுடைய பட்டயமே அல்லாமல் வேறல்ல; தேவன் மீதியானியரையும், இந்தச் சேனை அனைத்தையும், அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான்.

14. And his friend in answer said, This is certainly the sword of Gideon, the son of Joash, the men of Israel: into their hands God has given up all the army of Midian.

15. கிதியோன் அந்தச் சொப்பனத்தையும் அதின் வியார்த்தியையும் கேட்டபோது, அவன் பணிந்துகொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலின் பாளயத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்து: எழுந்திருங்கள், கர்த்தர் மீதியானியரின் பாளயத்தை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்று சொல்லி,

15. Then Gideon, hearing the story of the dream and the sense in which they took it, gave worship; then he went back to the tents of Israel, and said, Up! for the Lord has given the army of Midian into your hands.

16. அந்த முந்நூறுபேரை மூன்று படையாக வகுத்து, அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவன் கையிலும் ஒரு எக்காளத்தையும், வெறும் பானையையும், அந்தப் பானைக்குள் வைக்கும் தீவட்டியையும் கொடுத்து,

16. Then separating the three hundred men into three bands, he gave every man a horn, and a vessel in which was a flaming branch.

17. அவர்களை நோக்கி: நான் செய்வதைப் பார்த்து, அப்படியே நீங்களும் செய்யுங்கள். இதோ, நான் பாளயத்தின் முன்னணியில் வந்திருக்கும்போது, நான் எப்படிச் செய்கிறேனோ அப்படியே நீங்களும் செய்யவேண்டும்.

17. And he said to them, Keep your eyes on me, and do what I do; when I come to the outer line of tents, whatever I do, you are to do the same.

18. நானும் என்னோடே இருக்கும் சகலமானபேரும் எக்காளம் ஊதும்போது, நீங்களும் பாளயத்தைச் சுற்றி எங்கும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதி, கர்த்தருடைய பட்டயம் கிதியோனுடைய பட்டயம் என்பீர்களாக என்று சொன்னான்.

18. At the sound of my horn, and the horns of those who are with me, let your horns be sounded all round the tents, and say, For the Lord and for Gideon.

19. நடுஜாமத்தின் துவக்கத்தில், ஜாமக்காரரை மாற்றிவைத்தபின்பு, கிதியோனும் அவனோடிருந்த நூறுபேரும் அந்த ஜாமத்தின் துவக்கத்திலே பாளயத்தின் முன்னணியில் வந்து, எக்காளங்களை ஊதி, தங்கள் கையிலிருந்த பானைகளை உடைத்தார்கள்.

19. So Gideon and the three hundred men who were with him came to the outer line of tents, at the start of the middle watch, when the watchmen had only then taken their stations; and the horns were sounded and the vessels broken.

20. மூன்று படைகளின் மனுஷரும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதி, பானைகளை உடைத்து, தீவட்டிகளைத் தங்கள் இடதுகைகளிலும், ஊதும் எக்காளங்களைத் தங்கள் வலது கைகளிலும் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, கர்த்தருடைய பட்டயம் கிதியோனுடைய பட்டயம் என்று சத்தமிட்டு,

20. So the three bands all gave a loud note on their horns, and when the vessels had been broken, they took the flaming branches in their left hands, and the horns in their right hands ready for blowing, crying out, For the Lord and for Gideon.

21. பாளயத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் அவரவர் தங்கள் நிலையிலே நின்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது பாளயத்தில் இருந்தவர்கள் எல்லாரும் சிதறிக் கூக்குரலிட்டு, ஓடிப்போனார்கள்.

21. Then they made a line round the tents, every man in his place; and all the army, awaking from sleep, came running out, and with loud cries went in flight.

22. முந்நூறுபேரும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், கர்த்தர் பாளயமெங்கும் ஒருவர் பட்டயத்தை ஒருவருக்கு விரோதமாய் ஓங்கப்பண்ணினார்; சேனையானது சேரோத்திலுள்ள பெத்சித்தாமட்டும், தாபாத்திற்குச் சமீபமான ஆபேல்மேகொலாவின் எல்லைமட்டும் ஓடிப்போயிற்று.

22. And the three hundred gave a loud note on their horns, and every man's sword was turned by the Lord against his brother all through the army; and the army went in flight as far as Beth-shittah in the direction of Zeredah, to the edge of Abel-meholah by Tabbath.

23. அப்பொழுது நப்தலி மனுஷரும், ஆசேர் மனுஷரும், மனாசேயின் சகல மனுஷருமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலர் கூடிவந்து, மீதியானியரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து போனார்கள்.

23. And the men of Israel came together from Naphtali and from Asher and all Manasseh, and went after Midian.

24. கிதியோன் எப்பிராயீம் மலைகளெங்கும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: மீதியானியருக்கு விரோதமாயிறங்கி, பெத்தாபரா இருக்கும் யோர்தான் மட்டும் வந்து, அவர்களுக்கு முந்தித் துறைகளைக் கட்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னான்; அப்படியே எப்பிராயீமின் மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் கூடி, பெத்தாபரா இருக்கும் யோர்தான் மட்டும் வந்து, துறைகளைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு,

24. Then Gideon sent through all the hill-country of Ephraim saying, Come down against Midian, and keep the ways across Jordan before they come. So all the men of Ephraim, massing themselves together, kept the ways across Jordan.

25. மீதியானியரின் இரண்டு அதிபதிகளாகிய ஓரேபையும் சேபையும் பிடித்து, ஓரேபை ஓரேப் என்னப்பட்ட கன்மலையிலும், சேபை சேப் என்னப்பட்ட ஆலையிலும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, மீதியானியரைத் துரத்தி, ஓரேப் சேப் என்பவர்களின் தலைகளை யோர்தானுக்கு இக்கரையிலிருந்த கிதியோனிடத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

25. And they took the two chiefs of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and they put Oreb to death at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they put to death at the place of the grape-crushing in Zeeb, and they went after Midian; but the heads of Oreb and Zeeb they took across Jordan to Gideon.
