1. The Israelites offended the LORD, who therefore delivered them into the power of Midian for seven years,

2. மீதியானியரின் கை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் பலத்துக்கொண்டபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் தங்களுக்கு மலைகளிலுள்ள கெபிகளையும் குகைகளையும் அரணான ஸ்தலங்களையும் அடைக்கலங்களாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

2. so that Midian held Israel subject. For fear of Midian the Israelites established the fire signals on the mountains, the caves for refuge, and the strongholds.

3. இஸ்ரவேலர் விதை விதைத்திருக்கும்போது, மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரும் அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி வந்து;

3. And it used to be that when the Israelites had completed their sowing, Midian, Amalek and the Kedemites would come up,

4. அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே பாளயமிறங்கி, காசாவின் எல்லைமட்டும் நிலத்தின் விளைச்சலைக் கெடுத்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே ஆகாரத்தையாகிலும், ஆடுமாடுகள் கழுதைகளையாகிலும் வைக்காதே போவார்கள்.

4. encamp opposite them, and destroy the produce of the land as far as the outskirts of Gaza, leaving no sustenance in Israel, nor sheep, oxen or asses.

5. அவர்கள் தங்கள் மிருகஜீவன்களோடும், தங்கள் கூடாரங்களோடும், வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் திரளாய் வருவார்கள்; அவர்களும் அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களும் எண்ணிமுடியாததாயிருக்கும்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக தேசத்தைக் கெடுத்துவிட அதிலே வருவார்கள்.

5. For they would come up with their livestock, and their tents would become as numerous as locusts; and neither they nor their camels could be numbered, when they came into the land to lay it waste.

6. இப்படி மீதியானியராலே இஸ்ரவேலர் மிகவும் சிறுமைப்பட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டார்கள்.

6. Thus was Israel reduced to misery by Midian, and so the Israelites cried out to the LORD.

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டபோது,

7. When Israel cried out to the LORD because of Midian,

8. கர்த்தர் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசியை அவர்களிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினார்; அவன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்: நான் உங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து வரவும், அடிமைத்தன வீட்டிலிருந்து புறப்படவும் செய்து,

8. he sent a prophet to the Israelites who said to them, 'The LORD, the God of Israel, says: I led you up from Egypt; I brought you out of the place of slavery.

9. எகிப்தியர் கையினின்றும், உங்களை ஒடுக்கின யாவருடைய கையினின்றும் உங்களை இரட்சித்து, அவர்களை உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்தி, அவர்கள் தேசத்தை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து,

9. I rescued you from the power of Egypt and of all your other oppressors. I drove them out before you and gave you their land.

10. And I said to you: I, the LORD, am your God; you shall not venerate the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are dwelling. But you did not obey me.'

11. அதற்குப்பின்பு கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வந்து, அபியேஸ்ரியனான யோவாசின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கும் ஒரு கர்வாலிமரத்தின்கீழ் உட்கார்ந்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய குமாரன் கிதியோன் கோதுமையை மீதியானியரின் கைக்குத் தப்புவிக்கிறதற்காக, ஆலைக்குச் சமீபமாய் அதைப் போரடித்தான்.

11. Then the angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. While his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press to save it from the Midianites,

12. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: பராக்கிரமசாலியே கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார் என்றார்.

12. the angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, 'The LORD is with you, O champion!'

13. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவரை நோக்கி: ஆ என் ஆண்டவனே, கர்த்தர் எங்களோடே இருந்தால், இவையெல்லாம் எங்களுக்கு நேரிடுவானேன்? கர்த்தர் எங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து கொண்டுவரவில்லையா என்று எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் எங்களுக்கு விவரித்துச்சொன்ன அவருடைய அற்புதங்களெல்லாம் எங்கே? இப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் எங்களைக் கைவிட்டு, மீதியானியர் கையில் எங்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே என்றான்.

13. 'My Lord,' Gideon said to him, 'if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are his wondrous deeds of which our fathers told us when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' For now the LORD has abandoned us and has delivered us into the power of Midian.'

14. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கிப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு இருக்கிற இந்தப் பலத்தோடே போ; நீ இஸ்ரவேலை மீதியானியரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிப்பாய்; உன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர் நான் அல்லவா என்றார்.

14. The LORD turned to him and said, 'Go with the strength you have and save Israel from the power of Midian. It is I who send you.'

15. அதற்கு அவன்: ஆ என் ஆண்டவரே, நான் இஸ்ரவேலை எதினாலே இரட்சிப்பேன்; இதோ, மனாசேயில் என் குடும்பம் மிகவும் எளியது; என் தகப்பன் வீட்டில் நான் எல்லாரிலும் சிறியவன் என்றான்.

15. But he answered him, 'Please, my lord, how can I save Israel? My family is the meanest in Manasseh, and I am the most insignificant in my father's house.'

16. அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருப்பேன்; ஒரே மனுஷனை முறிய அடிப்பதுபோல நீ மீதியானியரை முறிய அடிப்பாய் என்றார்.

16. 'I shall be with you,' the LORD said to him, 'and you will cut down Midian to the last man.'

17. அப்பொழுது அவன்: உம்முடைய கண்களில் இப்பொழுதும் எனக்குத் தயை கிடைத்ததானால் என்னோடே பேசுகிறவர் தேவரீர்தான் என்று எனக்கு ஒரு அடையாளத்தைக் காட்டவேண்டும்.

17. He answered him, 'If I find favor with you, give me a sign that you are speaking with me.

18. நான் உம்மிடத்திற்கு என் காணிக்கையைக் கொண்டுவந்து, உமக்கு முன்பாக வைக்குமளவும், இவ்விடம் விட்டுப்போகாதிருப்பீராக என்றான்; அதற்கு அவர்: நீ திரும்பிவருமட்டும் நான் இருப்பேன் என்றார்.

18. Do not depart from here, I pray you, until I come back to you and bring out my offering and set it before you.' He answered, 'I will await your return.'

19. உடனே கிதியோன் உள்ளே போய், ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியையும் ஒரு மரக்கால் மாவிலே புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, இறைச்சியை ஒரு கூடையில் வைத்து, ஆணத்தை ஒரு கிண்ணத்தில் வார்த்து, அதை வெளியே கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழிருக்கிற அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து வைத்தான்.

19. So Gideon went off and prepared a kid and an ephah of flour in the form of unleavened cakes. Putting the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, he brought them out to him under the terebinth and presented them.

20. அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய தூதனானவர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் எடுத்து, இந்தக் கற்பாறையின்மேல் வைத்து ஆணத்தை ஊற்று என்றார்; அவன் அப்படியே செய்தான்.

20. The angel of God said to him, 'Take the meat and unleavened cakes and lay them on this rock; then pour out the broth.' When he had done so,

21. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் தமது கையிலிருந்த கோலின் நுனியை நீட்டி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் தொட்டார்; அப்பொழுது அக்கினி கற்பாறையிலிருந்து எழும்பி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் பட்சித்தது; கர்த்தரின் தூதனோவென்றால். அவன் கண்களுக்கு மறைந்துபோனார்.

21. the angel of the LORD stretched out the tip of the staff he held, and touched the meat and unleavened cakes. Thereupon a fire came up from the rock which consumed the meat and unleavened cakes, and the angel of the LORD disappeared from sight.

22. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், அவர் கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் என்று கண்டு: ஐயோ, கர்த்தரான ஆண்டவரே, நான் கர்த்தருடைய தூதனை முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேனே என்றான்.

22. Gideon, now aware that it had been the angel of the LORD, said, 'Alas, Lord GOD, that I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!'

23. அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: உனக்குச் சமாதானம்; பயப்படாதே, நீ சாவதில்லை என்று சொன்னார்.

23. The LORD answered him, 'Be calm, do not fear. You shall not die.'

24. அங்கே கிதியோன் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அதற்கு யெகோவா ஷாலோம் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் அபியேஸ்ரியரின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவில் இருக்கிறது.

24. So Gideon built there an altar to the LORD and called it Yahweh-shalom. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25. அன்று ராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற காளைகளில் ஏழு வயதான இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டுபோய், உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருக்கிற தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டு,

25. That same night the LORD said to him, 'Take the seven-year-old spare bullock and destroy your father's altar to Baal and cut down the sacred pole that is by it.

26. இந்தக் கற்பாறை உச்சியிலே பாங்கான ஒரு இடத்தில் உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அந்த இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டு வந்து, அதை நீ வெட்டிப்போட்ட தோப்பினுடைய கட்டை விறகுகளின் மேல் சர்வாங்கதகனமாகப் பலியிடக்கடவாய் என்றார்.

26. You shall build, instead, the proper kind of altar to the LORD, your God, on top of this stronghold. Then take the spare bullock and offer it as a holocaust on the wood from the sacred pole you have cut down.'

27. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், தன் வேலையாட்களில் பத்துப்பேரைச் சேர்த்து, கர்த்தர் தனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தான்; அவன் தன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தாருக்கும் அந்த ஊர் மனுஷருக்கும் பயப்பட்டபடியினாலே, அதைப் பகலிலே செய்யாமல், இரவிலே செய்தான்.

27. So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD had commanded him. But through fear of his family and of the townspeople, he would not do it by day, but did it at night.

28. Early the next morning the townspeople found that the altar of Baal had been destroyed, the sacred pole near it cut down, and the spare bullock offered on the altar that was built.

29. ஒருவரையொருவர் நோக்கி: இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தவன் யார் என்றார்கள்; கேட்டு விசாரிக்கிறபோது, யோவாசின் மகன் கிதியோன் இதைச் செய்தான் என்றார்கள்.

29. They asked one another, 'Who did this?' Their inquiry led them to the conclusion that Gideon, son of Joash, had done it.

30. அப்பொழுது ஊரார் யோவாசை நோக்கி: உன் மகனை வெளியே கொண்டுவா; அவன் பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருந்த தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டான், அவன் சாகவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

30. So the townspeople said to Joash, 'Bring out your son that he may die, for he has destroyed the altar of Baal and has cut down the sacred pole that was near it.'

31. யோவாஸ் தனக்கு விரோதமாக நிற்கிற அனைவரையும் பார்த்து: நீங்களா பாகாலுக்காக வழக்காடுவீர்கள்? நீங்களா அதை இரட்சிப்பீர்கள்? அதற்காக வழக்காடுகிறவன் இன்று காலையிலே தானே சாகக்கடவன்; அது தேவனானால் தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம், அதுதானே தனக்காக வழக்காடட்டும் என்றான்.

31. But Joash replied to all who were standing around him, 'Do you intend to act in Baal's stead, or be his champion? If anyone acts for him, he shall be put to death by morning. If he whose altar has been destroyed is a god, let him act for himself!'

32. தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம் பாகால் அவனோடே வழக்காடட்டும் என்று சொல்லி, அந்நாளிலே அவனுக்கு யெருபாகால் என்று பேரிடப்பட்டது.

32. So on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, because of the words, 'Let Baal take action against him, since he destroyed his altar.'

33. மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் யாவரும் ஏகமாய்க்கூடி, ஆற்றைக் கடந்துவந்து, யெஸ்ரயேல் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

33. Then all Midian and Amalek and the Kedemites mustered and crossed over into the valley of Jezreel, where they encamped.

34. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் கிதியோன்மேல் இறங்கினார்; அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி, அபியேஸ்ரியரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து,

34. The spirit of the LORD enveloped Gideon; he blew the horn that summoned Abiezer to follow him.

35. மனாசே நாடெங்கும் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி, அவர்களையும் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து, ஆசேர், செபுலோன், நப்தலி நாடுகளிலும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்களும் அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள்.

35. He sent messengers, too, throughout Manasseh, which also obeyed his summons; through Asher, Zebulun and Naphtali, likewise, he sent messengers and these tribes advanced to meet the others.

36. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி என் கையினாலே இஸ்ரவேலை இரட்சிக்கவேண்டுமானால்,

36. Gideon said to God, 'If indeed you are going to save Israel through me, as you promised,

37. இதோ, நான் மயிருள்ள ஒரு தோலைக் களத்திலே போடுகிறேன்; பனி தோலின் மேல் மாத்திரம் பெய்து, பூமியெல்லாம் காய்ந்திருந்தால், அப்பொழுது தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி இஸ்ரவேலை என்கையினால் இரட்சிப்பீர் என்று அதினாலே அறிவேன் என்றான்.

37. I am putting this woolen fleece on the threshing floor. If dew comes on the fleece alone, while all the ground is dry, I shall know that you will save Israel through me, as you promised.'

38. அப்படியே ஆயிற்று. அவன் மறுநாள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து, தோலைக்கசக்கி, அதிலிருந்த பனிநீரை ஒரு கிண்ணம் நிறையப் பிழிந்தான்.

38. That is what took place. Early the next morning he wrung the dew from the fleece, squeezing out of it a bowlful of water.

39. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: நான் இன்னும் ஒரு விசை மாத்திரம் பேசுகிறேன், உமது கோபம் என்மேல் மூளாதிருப்பதாக; தோலினாலே நான் இன்னும் ஒரே விசை சோதனைபண்ணட்டும்; தோல் மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருக்கவும் பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருக்கவும் கட்டளையிடும் என்றான்.

39. Gideon then said to God, 'Do not be angry with me if I speak once more. Let me make just one more test with the fleece. Let the fleece alone be dry, but let there be dew on all the ground.'

40. அப்படியே தேவன் அன்று இராத்திரி செய்தார்; தோல்மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருந்து, பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருந்தது.

40. That night God did so; the fleece alone was dry, but there was dew on all the ground.
