1. பின்னும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவர்களை ஏழு வருஷம் மீதியானியரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

1. And the sons of Israel did the thing that was wicked, in the sight of Yahweh, so Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years;

2. மீதியானியரின் கை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் பலத்துக்கொண்டபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் தங்களுக்கு மலைகளிலுள்ள கெபிகளையும் குகைகளையும் அரணான ஸ்தலங்களையும் அடைக்கலங்களாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

2. and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel, because of Midian, did the sons of Israel prepare for themselves the hollows which were in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.

3. இஸ்ரவேலர் விதை விதைத்திருக்கும்போது, மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரும் அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி வந்து;

3. And so it used to be, if Israel had sown, then came up Midian and Amalek and the sons of the east, yea came up against them,

4. அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே பாளயமிறங்கி, காசாவின் எல்லைமட்டும் நிலத்தின் விளைச்சலைக் கெடுத்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே ஆகாரத்தையாகிலும், ஆடுமாடுகள் கழுதைகளையாகிலும் வைக்காதே போவார்கள்.

4. and encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the land, until thou comest unto Gaza, neither left they sustenance in Israel, nor sheep nor ox, nor ass;

5. அவர்கள் தங்கள் மிருகஜீவன்களோடும், தங்கள் கூடாரங்களோடும், வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் திரளாய் வருவார்கள்; அவர்களும் அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களும் எண்ணிமுடியாததாயிருக்கும்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக தேசத்தைக் கெடுத்துவிட அதிலே வருவார்கள்.

5. for, they with their cattle, used to come up, with their tents yea they used to come like locusts, for multitude, both they and their cattle, were without number, so they came into the land, to lay it waste.

6. இப்படி மீதியானியராலே இஸ்ரவேலர் மிகவும் சிறுமைப்பட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டார்கள்.

6. Thus was Israel greatly impoverished, because of Midian, and the sons of Israel made outcry unto Yahweh.

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டபோது,

7. And it came to pass, when the sons of Israel cried unto Yahweh, on account of Midian,

8. கர்த்தர் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசியை அவர்களிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினார்; அவன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்: நான் உங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து வரவும், அடிமைத்தன வீட்டிலிருந்து புறப்படவும் செய்து,

8. then sent Yahweh a prophet unto the sons of Israel, who said unto them Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, I, led you up out of Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of servants;

9. எகிப்தியர் கையினின்றும், உங்களை ஒடுக்கின யாவருடைய கையினின்றும் உங்களை இரட்சித்து, அவர்களை உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்தி, அவர்கள் தேசத்தை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து,

9. Yea I rescued you out of the hand of Egypt, and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, that I might drive them out from before you, and I gave unto you their land;

10. நான் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் என்றும், நீங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் அவர்கள் தேசத்திலுள்ள எமோரியருடைய தேவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படாதிருங்கள் என்றும், உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னேன்; நீங்களோ என் சொல்லைக் கேளாதேபோனீர்கள் என்கிறார் என்று சொன்னான்.

10. Yea and I said to you, I, Yahweh, am your God, Ye must not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are about to dwell, But ye have not hearkened unto my voice.

11. அதற்குப்பின்பு கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வந்து, அபியேஸ்ரியனான யோவாசின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கும் ஒரு கர்வாலிமரத்தின்கீழ் உட்கார்ந்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய குமாரன் கிதியோன் கோதுமையை மீதியானியரின் கைக்குத் தப்புவிக்கிறதற்காக, ஆலைக்குச் சமீபமாய் அதைப் போரடித்தான்.

11. Then came the messenger of Yahweh, and sat down under the oak which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the Abiezrite; and, Gideon his son, was beating out wheat in the winepress, to escape the notice of the Midianites;

12. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: பராக்கிரமசாலியே கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார் என்றார்.

12. so the messenger of Yahweh appeared unto him, and said unto him, Yahweh, is with thee, thou mighty man of valour!

13. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவரை நோக்கி: ஆ என் ஆண்டவனே, கர்த்தர் எங்களோடே இருந்தால், இவையெல்லாம் எங்களுக்கு நேரிடுவானேன்? கர்த்தர் எங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து கொண்டுவரவில்லையா என்று எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் எங்களுக்கு விவரித்துச்சொன்ன அவருடைய அற்புதங்களெல்லாம் எங்கே? இப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் எங்களைக் கைவிட்டு, மீதியானியர் கையில் எங்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே என்றான்.

13. And Gideon said unto him Pardon, my lord! if Yahweh be with us, then wherefore hath all this befallen us? and where are all his wonders, which our fathers have recounted to us saying, Was it not, out of Egypt, that Yahweh brought us up? But, now, hath Yahweh abandoned us, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.

14. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கிப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு இருக்கிற இந்தப் பலத்தோடே போ; நீ இஸ்ரவேலை மீதியானியரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிப்பாய்; உன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர் நான் அல்லவா என்றார்.

14. And Yahweh, turned unto him, and said Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel, out of the hand of Midian, have I not sent thee?

15. அதற்கு அவன்: ஆ என் ஆண்டவரே, நான் இஸ்ரவேலை எதினாலே இரட்சிப்பேன்; இதோ, மனாசேயில் என் குடும்பம் மிகவும் எளியது; என் தகப்பன் வீட்டில் நான் எல்லாரிலும் சிறியவன் என்றான்.

15. And he said unto him Pardon, O my Lord! How, shall I save Israel? Lo! my thousand, is the poorest in Manasseh, and, I, am the youngest in the house of my father.

16. அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருப்பேன்; ஒரே மனுஷனை முறிய அடிப்பதுபோல நீ மீதியானியரை முறிய அடிப்பாய் என்றார்.

16. And Yahweh said unto him I will be with thee, so shalt thou smite the Midianites, as one man.

17. அப்பொழுது அவன்: உம்முடைய கண்களில் இப்பொழுதும் எனக்குத் தயை கிடைத்ததானால் என்னோடே பேசுகிறவர் தேவரீர்தான் என்று எனக்கு ஒரு அடையாளத்தைக் காட்டவேண்டும்.

17. And he said unto him, If, I beseech thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, then wilt thou work for me a sign, that it is, thou, who art speaking with me.

18. நான் உம்மிடத்திற்கு என் காணிக்கையைக் கொண்டுவந்து, உமக்கு முன்பாக வைக்குமளவும், இவ்விடம் விட்டுப்போகாதிருப்பீராக என்றான்; அதற்கு அவர்: நீ திரும்பிவருமட்டும் நான் இருப்பேன் என்றார்.

18. Do not, I beseech thee, withdraw from hence, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said: I, will tarry until thou return.

19. உடனே கிதியோன் உள்ளே போய், ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியையும் ஒரு மரக்கால் மாவிலே புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, இறைச்சியை ஒரு கூடையில் வைத்து, ஆணத்தை ஒரு கிண்ணத்தில் வார்த்து, அதை வெளியே கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழிருக்கிற அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து வைத்தான்.

19. So, Gideon, went in, and made ready a kid of the goats, and, of an ephah of meal, unleavened cakes, the flesh, he put in a basket, and, the broth, he put in a pot, and brought them forth unto him, under the oak, and presented them.

20. அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய தூதனானவர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் எடுத்து, இந்தக் கற்பாறையின்மேல் வைத்து ஆணத்தை ஊற்று என்றார்; அவன் அப்படியே செய்தான்.

20. And the messenger of God said unto him Take the flesh and the cakes, and set them on this crag, and, the broth, do thou pour out. And he did so.

21. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் தமது கையிலிருந்த கோலின் நுனியை நீட்டி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் தொட்டார்; அப்பொழுது அக்கினி கற்பாறையிலிருந்து எழும்பி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் பட்சித்தது; கர்த்தரின் தூதனோவென்றால். அவன் கண்களுக்கு மறைந்துபோனார்.

21. Then the messenger of Yahweh put forth the end of the staff, that was in his hand, and touched the flesh, and the cakes, and there came up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh, and the cakes, and, the messenger of Yahweh, had departed out of his sight.

22. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், அவர் கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் என்று கண்டு: ஐயோ, கர்த்தரான ஆண்டவரே, நான் கர்த்தருடைய தூதனை முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேனே என்றான்.

22. Then saw Gideon that, the messenger of Yahweh, it was, so Gideon said Alas, My Lord Yahweh! forasmuch as I have seen the messenger of Yahweh, face to face!

23. அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: உனக்குச் சமாதானம்; பயப்படாதே, நீ சாவதில்லை என்று சொன்னார்.

23. And Yahweh said unto him Peace be unto thee! Do not fear, thou shalt not die.

24. அங்கே கிதியோன் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அதற்கு யெகோவா ஷாலோம் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் அபியேஸ்ரியரின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவில் இருக்கிறது.

24. So Gideon built there an altar unto Yahweh, and called it, Yahweh-shalom. Unto this day, it remaineth, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25. அன்று ராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற காளைகளில் ஏழு வயதான இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டுபோய், உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருக்கிற தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டு,

25. And it came to pass, on that night, that Yahweh said unto him Take the young bullock that belongeth to thy father, even the second bullock of seven years, and throw thou down the altar of Baal, that belongeth to thy father, and, the sacred stem that is by it, shalt thou cut down.

26. இந்தக் கற்பாறை உச்சியிலே பாங்கான ஒரு இடத்தில் உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அந்த இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டு வந்து, அதை நீ வெட்டிப்போட்ட தோப்பினுடைய கட்டை விறகுகளின் மேல் சர்வாங்கதகனமாகப் பலியிடக்கடவாய் என்றார்.

26. Then shalt thou build an altar, unto Yahweh thy God, on the top of this fort, with the pile, and shalt take the second bullock, and cause it to go up as an ascending-sacrifice, with the wood of the sacred stem which thou shalt cut down.

27. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், தன் வேலையாட்களில் பத்துப்பேரைச் சேர்த்து, கர்த்தர் தனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தான்; அவன் தன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தாருக்கும் அந்த ஊர் மனுஷருக்கும் பயப்பட்டபடியினாலே, அதைப் பகலிலே செய்யாமல், இரவிலே செய்தான்.

27. So Gideon took ten men from among his servants, and did as Yahweh had spoken unto him, and so it was that, as he too much feared the house of his father, and the men of the city, to do it by day, he did it by night.

28. அந்த ஊர் மனுஷர் காலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, இதோ, பாகாலின் பலிபீடம் தகர்க்கப்பட்டதும், அதின் அருகேயிருந்த தோப்பு வெட்டிப்போடப்பட்டதும், கட்டப்பட்டிருந்த பலிபீடத்தின் மேல் அந்த இரண்டாம் காளை பலியிடப்பட்டதுமாயிருக்க அவர்கள் கண்டு;

28. And the men of the city rose up early in the morning, and lo! the altar of Baal, had been overthrown, and, the sacred stem that was by it, had been cut down, and the second bullock had been caused to ascend upon the altar that had been built.

29. ஒருவரையொருவர் நோக்கி: இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தவன் யார் என்றார்கள்; கேட்டு விசாரிக்கிறபோது, யோவாசின் மகன் கிதியோன் இதைச் செய்தான் என்றார்கள்.

29. So they said, one to another, Who hath done this thing? And they inquired, and made search, and it was said, Gideon son of Joash, hath done this thing.

30. அப்பொழுது ஊரார் யோவாசை நோக்கி: உன் மகனை வெளியே கொண்டுவா; அவன் பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருந்த தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டான், அவன் சாகவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

30. So the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring forth thy son, that he may die, because he hath overthrown the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the sacred stem that was by it.

31. யோவாஸ் தனக்கு விரோதமாக நிற்கிற அனைவரையும் பார்த்து: நீங்களா பாகாலுக்காக வழக்காடுவீர்கள்? நீங்களா அதை இரட்சிப்பீர்கள்? அதற்காக வழக்காடுகிறவன் இன்று காலையிலே தானே சாகக்கடவன்; அது தேவனானால் தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம், அதுதானே தனக்காக வழக்காடட்டும் என்றான்.

31. And Joash said unto all who stood by him Will, ye, plead for Baal, or will, ye, save him? Whoso pleadeth for him, let him be put to death while it is yet morning, if, a god, he be let him plead for himself, because one hath overthrown his altar.

32. தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம் பாகால் அவனோடே வழக்காடட்டும் என்று சொல்லி, அந்நாளிலே அவனுக்கு யெருபாகால் என்று பேரிடப்பட்டது.

32. So he was called on that day, Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal, plead against him. Because he had overthrown his altar.

33. மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் யாவரும் ஏகமாய்க்கூடி, ஆற்றைக் கடந்துவந்து, யெஸ்ரயேல் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

33. Now, all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east, were gathered together, and they crossed over and pitched in the vale of Jezreel.

34. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் கிதியோன்மேல் இறங்கினார்; அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி, அபியேஸ்ரியரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து,

34. But, the spirit of Yahweh, clothed Gideon, so he blew with a horn, and Abiezer was gathered after him.

35. மனாசே நாடெங்கும் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி, அவர்களையும் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து, ஆசேர், செபுலோன், நப்தலி நாடுகளிலும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்களும் அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள்.

35. Messengers also, sent he throughout all Manasseh, and, they also, were gathered after him, messengers also, sent he throughout Asher, and throughout Zebulun, and throughout Naphtali, and they came up to meet them.

36. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி என் கையினாலே இஸ்ரவேலை இரட்சிக்கவேண்டுமானால்,

36. And Gideon said unto God, If thou art about to bring salvation, by my hand, unto Israel, as thou hast spoken,

37. இதோ, நான் மயிருள்ள ஒரு தோலைக் களத்திலே போடுகிறேன்; பனி தோலின் மேல் மாத்திரம் பெய்து, பூமியெல்லாம் காய்ந்திருந்தால், அப்பொழுது தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி இஸ்ரவேலை என்கையினால் இரட்சிப்பீர் என்று அதினாலே அறிவேன் என்றான்.

37. lo! I am placing a woollen fleece, on the threshing-floor, if, dew, be on the fleece alone and, on all the ground, it be dry, then shall I know that thou wilt bring salvation, by my hand, unto Israel, as thou hast spoken.

38. அப்படியே ஆயிற்று. அவன் மறுநாள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து, தோலைக்கசக்கி, அதிலிருந்த பனிநீரை ஒரு கிண்ணம் நிறையப் பிழிந்தான்.

38. And it was so, and he rose up early, on the morrow, and pressed together the fleece, and wrung out the dew from the fleece, a small bowl full of water.

39. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: நான் இன்னும் ஒரு விசை மாத்திரம் பேசுகிறேன், உமது கோபம் என்மேல் மூளாதிருப்பதாக; தோலினாலே நான் இன்னும் ஒரே விசை சோதனைபண்ணட்டும்; தோல் மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருக்கவும் பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருக்கவும் கட்டளையிடும் என்றான்.

39. Then said Gideon unto God, Let not thine anger kindle upon me, but let me speak, only this once, Let me, I pray thee, put to the proof, only this once, with the fleece, I pray thee, let it be dry on the fleece alone, while, on all the ground, there be dew.

40. அப்படியே தேவன் அன்று இராத்திரி செய்தார்; தோல்மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருந்து, பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருந்தது.

40. And God did so on that night, and it was dry on the fleece alone, while, on all the ground, there was dew.
