1. நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா சித்தீமிலிருந்து வேவுகாரராகிய இரண்டு மனுஷரை இரகசியமாய் வேவுபார்க்கும்படி அனுப்பி: நீங்கள் போய் தேசத்தையும் எரிகோவையும் பார்த்துவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் போய், ராகாப் என்னும் பெயர்கொண்ட வேசியின் வீட்டுக்குள் பிரவேசித்து, அங்கே தங்கினார்கள்.

1. Then Joshua, son of Nun, secretly sent out two spies from Shittim, saying, 'Go, reconnoiter the land and Jericho.' When the two reached Jericho, they went into the house of a harlot named Rahab, where they lodged.

2. தேசத்தை வேவுபார்க்கும்படி, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் சில மனுஷர் இந்த ராத்திரியிலே இங்கே வந்தார்கள் என்று எரிகோவின் ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்டது.

2. But a report was brought to the king of Jericho that some Israelites had come there that night to spy out the land.

3. அப்பொழுது எரிகோவின் ராஜா ராகாபண்டைக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பி: உன்னிடத்தில் வந்து, உன் வீட்டுக்குள் பிரவேசித்த மனுஷரை வெளியே கொண்டுவா; அவர்கள் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் வேவுபார்க்கும்படி வந்தார்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

3. So the king of Jericho sent Rahab the order, 'Put out the visitors who have entered your house, for they have come to spy out the entire land.'

4. அந்த ஸ்திரீ அவ்விரண்டு மனுஷரையும் கொண்டுபோய் அவர்களை ஒளித்துவைத்து: மெய்தான், என்னிடத்தில் மனுஷர் வந்திருந்தார்கள்; ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் எவ்விடத்தாரோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது.

4. The woman had taken the two men and hidden them, so she said, 'True, the men you speak of came to me, but I did not know where they came from.

5. வாசலை அடைக்கும் நேரத்தில் இருட்டுவேளையிலே, அந்த மனுஷர் புறப்பட்டுப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; அவர்கள் எங்கே போனார்களோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது; அவர்களைச் சீக்கிரமாய்ப் போய்த் தேடுங்கள்; நீங்கள் அவர்களைப் பிடித்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என்றாள்.

5. At dark, when it was time for the gate to be shut, they left, and I do not know where they went. You will have to pursue them immediately to overtake them.'

6. அவள் அவர்களை வீட்டின்மேல் ஏறப்பண்ணி, வீட்டின்மேல் பரப்பப்பட்ட சணல் தட்டைகளுக்குள்ளே மறைத்து வைத்திருந்தாள்.

6. Now, she had led them to the roof, and hidden them among her stalks of flax spread out there.

7. அந்த மனுஷர் யோர்தானுக்குப் போகிற வழியில் துறைகள்மட்டும் அவர்களைத் தேடப்போனார்கள்; அவர்களைத் தேடுகிறவர்கள் புறப்பட்டவுடனே வாசல் அடைக்கப்பட்டது.

7. But the pursuers set out along the way to the fords of the Jordan, and once they had left, the gate was shut.

8. அந்த மனுஷர் படுத்துக்கொள்ளுமுன்னே அவள் வீட்டின்மேல் அவர்களிடத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போய்,

8. Before the spies fell asleep, Rahab came to them on the roof

9. கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு தேசத்தை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரென்றும், உங்களைப்பற்றி எங்களுக்குத் திகில் பிடித்திருக்கிறதென்றும், உங்களைக்குறித்து தேசத்துக் குடிகள் எல்லாரும் சோர்ந்துபோனார்களென்றும் அறிவேன்.

9. and said: 'I know that the LORD has given you the land, that a dread of you has come upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are overcome with fear of you.

10. நீங்கள் எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு முன்பாக சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்தின் தண்ணீரை வற்றிப்போகப்பண்ணினதையும், நீங்கள் யோர்தானுக்கு அப்புறத்தில் சங்காரம்பண்ணின எமோரியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களாகிய சீகோனுக்கும் ஓகுக்கும் செய்ததையும் கேள்விப்பட்டோம்.

10. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and how you dealt with Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan, whom you doomed to destruction.

11. கேள்விப்பட்டபோது எங்கள் இருதயம் கரைந்துபோயிற்று, உங்களாலே எல்லாருடைய தைரியமும் அற்றுப்போயிற்று; உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரே உயர வானத்திலும் கீழே பூமியிலும் தேவனானவர்.

11. At these reports, we are disheartened; everyone is discouraged because of you, since the LORD, your God, is God in heaven above and on earth below.

12. இப்போதும், நான் உங்களுக்குத் தயவுசெய்தபடியினால், நீங்களும் என் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்துக்குத் தயவுசெய்வோம் என்று கர்த்தர்பேரில் எனக்கு ஆணையிட்டு,

12. Now then, swear to me by the LORD that, since I am showing kindness to you, you in turn will show kindness to my family; and give me an unmistakable token

13. நீங்கள் என் தகப்பனையும் என் தாயையும் என் சகோதரரையும் என் சகோதரிகளையும் அவர்களுக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும் உயிரோடே வைத்து, எங்கள் ஜீவனைச் சாவுக்குத் தப்புவிக்கும்படி, எனக்கு நிச்சயமான அடையாளத்தைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

13. that you are to spare my father and mother, brothers and sisters, and all their kin, and save us from death.'

14. அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷர் அவளை நோக்கி: எங்கள் ஜீவனே உங்கள் ஜீவனுக்கு ஈடு; நீங்கள் எங்கள் காரியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தாதிருந்தால், கர்த்தர் எங்களுக்கு தேசத்தைக் கொடுக்கும்போது, நாங்கள் தயையும் சத்தியமும் பாராட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

14. 'We pledge our lives for yours,' the men answered her. 'If you do not betray this errand of ours, we will be faithful in showing kindness to you when the LORD gives us the land.'

15. அப்பொழுது அவர்களைக் கயிற்றினாலே ஜன்னல்வழியாய் இறக்கிவிட்டாள்; அவள் வீடு அலங்கத்தின் மதிலில் இருந்தது; அலங்கத்திலே அவள் குடியிருந்தாள்.

15. Then she let them down through the window with a rope; for she lived in a house built into the city wall.

16. அப்பொழுது அவள் அவர்களை நோக்கி: தேடுகிறவர்கள் உங்களைக் காணாதபடிக்கு, நீங்கள் மலையிலே போய், அவர்கள் திரும்பிவருமட்டும் அங்கே மூன்றுநாள் ஒளித்திருந்து, பின்பு உங்கள் வழியே போங்கள் என்றாள்.

16. 'Go up into the hill country,' she suggested to them, 'that your pursuers may not find you. Hide there for three days, until they return; then you may proceed on your way.'

17. அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷர் அவளை நோக்கி: இதோ, நாங்கள் தேசத்துக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, நீ இந்தச் சிவப்பு நூல் கயிற்றை எங்களை இறக்கிவிட்ட ஜன்னலிலே கட்டி, உன் தகப்பனையும் உன் தாயையும் உன் சகோதரர்களையும் உன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தார் அனைவரையும் உன்னிடத்தில் உன் வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொள்.

17. The men answered her, 'This is how we will fulfill the oath you made us take:

18. When we come into the land, tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you are letting us down; and gather your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house.

19. எவனாகிலும் உன் வீட்டு வாசல்களிலிருந்து வெளியே புறப்பட்டால், அவனுடைய இரத்தப்பழி அவன் தலையின்மேல் இருக்கும்; எங்கள்மேல் குற்றம் இல்லை; உன்னோடே வீட்டில் இருக்கிற எவன்மேலாகிலும் கைபோடப்பட்டதேயாகில், அவனுடைய இரத்தப்பழி எங்கள் தலையின்மேல் இருக்கும்.

19. Should any of them pass outside the doors of your house, he will be responsible for his own death, and we shall be guiltless. But we shall be responsible if anyone in the house with you is harmed.

20. நீ எங்கள் காரியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தினாயேயானால், நீ எங்கள் கையில் வாங்கின ஆணைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

20. If, however, you betray this errand of ours, we shall be quit of the oath you have made us take.'

21. அதற்கு அவள்: உங்கள் வார்த்தையின்படியே ஆகக்கடவது என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டாள்; அவர்கள் போய்விட்டார்கள்; பின்பு அவள் அந்தச் சிவப்புக்கயிற்றை ஜன்னலிலே கட்டிவைத்தாள்.

21. 'Let it be as you say,' she replied, and bade them farewell. When they were gone, she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

22. அவர்கள் போய், மலையிலே சேர்ந்து, தேடுகிறவர்கள் திரும்பிவருமட்டும், மூன்றுநாள் அங்கே தரித்திருந்தார்கள்; தேடுகிறவர்கள் வழியிலெல்லாம் அவர்களைத் தேடியும் காணாதேபோனார்கள்.

22. They went up into the hills, where they stayed three days until their pursuers, who had sought them all along the road without finding them, returned.

23. அந்த இரண்டு மனுஷரும் திரும்பி, மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி, ஆற்றைக்கடந்து, நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, தங்களுக்குச் சம்பவித்த யாவையும் அவனுக்குத் தெரிவித்து;

23. Then the two came back down from the hills, crossed the Jordan to Joshua, son of Nun, and reported all that had befallen them.

24. கர்த்தர் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் நம்முடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; தேசத்தின் குடிகளெல்லாம் நமக்கு முன்பாகச் சோர்ந்து போனார்கள் என்று அவனோடே சொன்னார்கள்.

24. They assured Joshua, 'The LORD has delivered all this land into our power; indeed, all the inhabitants of the land are overcome with fear of us.'
