1. நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா சித்தீமிலிருந்து வேவுகாரராகிய இரண்டு மனுஷரை இரகசியமாய் வேவுபார்க்கும்படி அனுப்பி: நீங்கள் போய் தேசத்தையும் எரிகோவையும் பார்த்துவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் போய், ராகாப் என்னும் பெயர்கொண்ட வேசியின் வீட்டுக்குள் பிரவேசித்து, அங்கே தங்கினார்கள்.

1. Joshua, the son of Nun, sent two spies from Shittim. He sent them in secret. He said to them, 'Go. Look the land over. Most of all, check out Jericho.' So they went to Jericho. They stayed at the house of a prostitute. Her name was Rahab.

2. தேசத்தை வேவுபார்க்கும்படி, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் சில மனுஷர் இந்த ராத்திரியிலே இங்கே வந்தார்கள் என்று எரிகோவின் ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்டது.

2. The king of Jericho was told, 'Look! Some of the people of Israel have come here tonight. They've come to check out the land.'

3. அப்பொழுது எரிகோவின் ராஜா ராகாபண்டைக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பி: உன்னிடத்தில் வந்து, உன் வீட்டுக்குள் பிரவேசித்த மனுஷரை வெளியே கொண்டுவா; அவர்கள் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் வேவுபார்க்கும்படி வந்தார்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

3. So the king sent a message to Rahab. It said, 'Bring out the men who came into your house. They've come to check out the whole land.'

4. அந்த ஸ்திரீ அவ்விரண்டு மனுஷரையும் கொண்டுபோய் அவர்களை ஒளித்துவைத்து: மெய்தான், என்னிடத்தில் மனுஷர் வந்திருந்தார்கள்; ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் எவ்விடத்தாரோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது.

4. But the woman had hidden the two men. She said, 'It's true that the men came here. But I didn't know where they had come from.

5. வாசலை அடைக்கும் நேரத்தில் இருட்டுவேளையிலே, அந்த மனுஷர் புறப்பட்டுப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; அவர்கள் எங்கே போனார்களோ எனக்குத் தெரியாது; அவர்களைச் சீக்கிரமாய்ப் போய்த் தேடுங்கள்; நீங்கள் அவர்களைப் பிடித்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என்றாள்.

5. They left at sunset, when it was time to close the city gate. I don't know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You might catch up with them.'

6. அவள் அவர்களை வீட்டின்மேல் ஏறப்பண்ணி, வீட்டின்மேல் பரப்பப்பட்ட சணல் தட்டைகளுக்குள்ளே மறைத்து வைத்திருந்தாள்.

6. But in fact she had taken them up on the roof. There she had hidden them under some flax she had piled up.

7. அந்த மனுஷர் யோர்தானுக்குப் போகிற வழியில் துறைகள்மட்டும் அவர்களைத் தேடப்போனார்கள்; அவர்களைத் தேடுகிறவர்கள் புறப்பட்டவுடனே வாசல் அடைக்கப்பட்டது.

7. The king's men left to hunt down the spies. They took the road that leads to where the Jordan River can be crossed. As soon as they had gone out of the city, the gate was shut.

8. அந்த மனுஷர் படுத்துக்கொள்ளுமுன்னே அவள் வீட்டின்மேல் அவர்களிடத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போய்,

8. Rahab went up on the roof before the spies settled down for the night.

9. கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு தேசத்தை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரென்றும், உங்களைப்பற்றி எங்களுக்குத் திகில் பிடித்திருக்கிறதென்றும், உங்களைக்குறித்து தேசத்துக் குடிகள் எல்லாரும் சோர்ந்துபோனார்களென்றும் அறிவேன்.

9. She said to them, 'I know that the Lord has given this land to you. We are very much afraid of you. Everyone who lives in this country is weak with fear because of you.

10. நீங்கள் எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு முன்பாக சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்தின் தண்ணீரை வற்றிப்போகப்பண்ணினதையும், நீங்கள் யோர்தானுக்கு அப்புறத்தில் சங்காரம்பண்ணின எமோரியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களாகிய சீகோனுக்கும் ஓகுக்கும் செய்ததையும் கேள்விப்பட்டோம்.

10. 'We've heard how the Lord dried up the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt. We've heard what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings. They ruled east of the Jordan River. You completely destroyed them.

11. கேள்விப்பட்டபோது எங்கள் இருதயம் கரைந்துபோயிற்று, உங்களாலே எல்லாருடைய தைரியமும் அற்றுப்போயிற்று; உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரே உயர வானத்திலும் கீழே பூமியிலும் தேவனானவர்.

11. 'When we heard about it, our hearts melted away in fear. Because of you, we aren't brave anymore. The Lord your God is the God who rules over heaven above and earth below.

12. இப்போதும், நான் உங்களுக்குத் தயவுசெய்தபடியினால், நீங்களும் என் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்துக்குத் தயவுசெய்வோம் என்று கர்த்தர்பேரில் எனக்கு ஆணையிட்டு,

12. 'Now then, please take an oath. Promise me in the name of the Lord that you will be kind to my family. I've been kind to you. Promise me

13. நீங்கள் என் தகப்பனையும் என் தாயையும் என் சகோதரரையும் என் சகோதரிகளையும் அவர்களுக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும் உயிரோடே வைத்து, எங்கள் ஜீவனைச் சாவுக்குத் தப்புவிக்கும்படி, எனக்கு நிச்சயமான அடையாளத்தைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

13. that you will spare the lives of my father and mother. Spare my brothers and sisters. Also spare everyone in their families. Promise that you won't put any of us to death.'

14. அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷர் அவளை நோக்கி: எங்கள் ஜீவனே உங்கள் ஜீவனுக்கு ஈடு; நீங்கள் எங்கள் காரியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தாதிருந்தால், கர்த்தர் எங்களுக்கு தேசத்தைக் கொடுக்கும்போது, நாங்கள் தயையும் சத்தியமும் பாராட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

14. So the men made a promise to her. 'We'll give up our lives to save yours,' they said. 'But don't tell anyone what we're doing. Then we'll be kind and faithful to you when the Lord gives us the land.'

15. அப்பொழுது அவர்களைக் கயிற்றினாலே ஜன்னல்வழியாய் இறக்கிவிட்டாள்; அவள் வீடு அலங்கத்தின் மதிலில் இருந்தது; அலங்கத்திலே அவள் குடியிருந்தாள்.

15. The house Rahab lived in was part of the city wall. So she let the spies down by a rope through the window.

16. அப்பொழுது அவள் அவர்களை நோக்கி: தேடுகிறவர்கள் உங்களைக் காணாதபடிக்கு, நீங்கள் மலையிலே போய், அவர்கள் திரும்பிவருமட்டும் அங்கே மூன்றுநாள் ஒளித்திருந்து, பின்பு உங்கள் வழியே போங்கள் என்றாள்.

16. She had said to them, 'Go up into the hills. The men who are chasing you won't be able to find you. Hide yourselves there for three days until they return. Then you can go on your way.'

17. அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷர் அவளை நோக்கி: இதோ, நாங்கள் தேசத்துக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, நீ இந்தச் சிவப்பு நூல் கயிற்றை எங்களை இறக்கிவிட்ட ஜன்னலிலே கட்டி, உன் தகப்பனையும் உன் தாயையும் உன் சகோதரர்களையும் உன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தார் அனைவரையும் உன்னிடத்தில் உன் வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொள்.

17. The men said to her, 'You made us take an oath and make a promise. But we won't keep it

18. இல்லாவிட்டால் நீ எங்கள் கையில் வாங்கின ஆணைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருப்போம்.

18. unless you do what we say. When we enter the land, you must tie this bright red rope in the window. Tie it in the window you let us down through. 'Bring your father and mother into your house. Also bring your brothers and everyone else in your family into your house.

19. எவனாகிலும் உன் வீட்டு வாசல்களிலிருந்து வெளியே புறப்பட்டால், அவனுடைய இரத்தப்பழி அவன் தலையின்மேல் இருக்கும்; எங்கள்மேல் குற்றம் இல்லை; உன்னோடே வீட்டில் இருக்கிற எவன்மேலாகிலும் கைபோடப்பட்டதேயாகில், அவனுடைய இரத்தப்பழி எங்கள் தலையின்மேல் இருக்கும்.

19. None of you must go out into the street. If you do, anything that happens to you will be your own fault. Don't hold us accountable. 'But if anyone hurts someone who is inside the house with you, it will be our fault. And you can hold us accountable.

20. நீ எங்கள் காரியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தினாயேயானால், நீ எங்கள் கையில் வாங்கின ஆணைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

20. 'Don't tell anyone what we're doing. If you do, we won't have to keep the promise you asked us to make.'

21. அதற்கு அவள்: உங்கள் வார்த்தையின்படியே ஆகக்கடவது என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டாள்; அவர்கள் போய்விட்டார்கள்; பின்பு அவள் அந்தச் சிவப்புக்கயிற்றை ஜன்னலிலே கட்டிவைத்தாள்.

21. 'I agree,' Rahab replied. 'I'll do as you say.' So she sent them away, and they left. Then she tied the bright red rope in the window.

22. அவர்கள் போய், மலையிலே சேர்ந்து, தேடுகிறவர்கள் திரும்பிவருமட்டும், மூன்றுநாள் அங்கே தரித்திருந்தார்கள்; தேடுகிறவர்கள் வழியிலெல்லாம் அவர்களைத் தேடியும் காணாதேபோனார்கள்.

22. When the spies left, they went up into the hills. They stayed there for three days. By that time the men who were chasing them had searched all along the road. They couldn't find them. So they returned.

23. அந்த இரண்டு மனுஷரும் திரும்பி, மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி, ஆற்றைக்கடந்து, நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, தங்களுக்குச் சம்பவித்த யாவையும் அவனுக்குத் தெரிவித்து;

23. Then the two spies started back. They went down out of the hills. They went across the Jordan River. They came to Joshua, the son of Nun. They told him everything that had happened to them.

24. கர்த்தர் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் நம்முடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; தேசத்தின் குடிகளெல்லாம் நமக்கு முன்பாகச் சோர்ந்து போனார்கள் என்று அவனோடே சொன்னார்கள்.

24. They said, 'We're sure the Lord has given the whole land over to us. All of the people there are weak with fear because of us.'
