1. என் மகனே, நீ என் வார்த்தைகளைக்காத்து, என் கட்டளைகளை உன்னிடத்தில் பத்திரப்படுத்து.

1. My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2. என் கட்டளைகளையும் என் போதகத்தையும் உன் கண்மணியைப்போல் காத்துக்கொள், அப்பொழுது பிழைப்பாய்.

2. Keep my commandments and live, and my law as the apple of thine eye.

3. அவைகளை உன் விரல்களில் கட்டி, அவைகளை உன் இருதயபலகையில் எழுதிக்கொள்.

3. Bind them upon thy fingers; write them upon the tablet of thine heart.

4. இச்சகவார்த்தைகளைப் பேசும் அந்நியப் பெண்ணாகிய பரஸ்திரீக்கு உன்னை விலக்கிக் காப்பதற்காக,

4. Say unto wisdom, 'Thou art my sister,' and call understanding thy kinswoman,

5. ஞானத்தை நோக்கி, நீ என் சகோதரி என்றும், புத்தியைப்பார்த்து, நீ என் இனத்தாள் என்றும் சொல்வாயாக.

5. that they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the harlot who flattereth with her words.

6. நான் என் வீட்டின் ஜன்னலருகே நின்று, பலகணி வழியாய்ப் பார்த்தபோது,

6. For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

7. பேதையர்களாகிய வாலிபருக்குள்ளே ஒரு புத்தியீன வாலிபனைக்கண்டு அவனைக் கவனித்தேன்.

7. and I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youth, a young man void of understanding,

8. அவன் மாலைமயங்கும் அஸ்தமன நேரத்திலும், இரவின் இருண்ட அந்தகாரத்திலும்.

8. passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9. அவள் இருக்கும் சந்துக்கடுத்த தெருவில் சென்று, அவள் வீட்டுவழியாய் நடந்துபோனான்.

9. in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.

10. அப்பொழுது இதோ, வேசியின் ஆடையாபரணந்தரித்த தந்திரமனமுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவனுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டாள்.

10. And behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot and subtle of heart.

11. அவள் வாயாடியும் அடங்காதவளுமானவள்; அவள் கால்கள் வீட்டிலே தரிக்கிறதில்லை.

11. (She is loud and stubborn, her feet abide not in her house;

12. சிலவேளை வெளியிலிருப்பாள், சிலவேளை வீதியிலிருப்பாள், சந்துகள்தோறும் பதிவிருப்பாள்.

12. now is she outside, now in the streets and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13. அவள் அவனைப் பிடித்து முத்தஞ்செய்து, முகம் நாணாமல் அவனைப் பார்த்து:

13. So she caught him and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him:

14. சமாதான பலிகள் என்மேல் சுமந்திருந்தது, இன்றைக்குத்தான் என் பொருத்தனைகளை நிறைவேற்றினேன்.

14. I have peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows.

15. ஆதலால், நான் உன்னைச் சந்திக்கப்புறப்பட்டு, உன் முகத்தை ஆவலோடு தேடினேன்; இப்பொழுது உன்னைக் கண்டுபிடித்தேன்.

15. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently seeking thy face, and I have found thee.

16. என் மஞ்சத்தை இரத்தின கம்பளங்களாலும், எகிப்து தேசத்து விசித்திரமான மெல்லிய வஸ்திரங்களாலும் சிங்காரித்தேன்.

16. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17. என் படுக்கையை வெள்ளைப்போளத்தாலும் சந்தனத்தாலும் இலவங்கப்பட்டையாலும் வாசனை கட்டினேன்.

17. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18. வா, விடியற்காலம்வரைக்கும் சம்போகமாயிருப்போம், இன்பங்களினால் பூரிப்போம்.

18. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with love.

19. புருஷன் வீட்டிலே இல்லை, தூரப்பிரயாணம் போனான்.

19. For the master is not at home; he is gone on a long journey.

20. பணப்பையைத் தன் கையிலே கொண்டுபோனான், குறிக்கப்பட்ட நாளிலே வீட்டுக்கு வருவான் என்று சொல்லி,

20. He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.'

21. தன் மிகுதியான இனிய சொற்களால் அவனை வசப்படுத்தி, தன் உதடுகளின் மதுரவாக்கினால் அவனை இணங்கப்பண்ணினாள்.

21. With her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22. உடனே அவன் அவள் பின்னே சென்றான்; ஒரு மாடு அடிக்கப்படும்படி செல்வதுபோலும், ஒரு மூடன் விலங்கிடப்பட்டு தண்டனைக்குப் போவதுபோலும்,

22. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,

23. ஒரு குருவி தன் பிராணனை வாங்கும் கண்ணியை அறியாமல் அதில் விழத்தீவிரிக்கிறதுபோலும், அவளுக்குப் பின்னே போனான்; அம்பு அவன் ஈரலைப் பிளந்தது.

23. until a dart strike through his liver, as a bird hasteneth to the snare and knoweth not that it is for his life.

24. ஆதலால் பிள்ளைகளே, எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கவனியுங்கள்.

24. Hearken unto me now, therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25. உன் இருதயம் அவள் வழியிலே சாயவேண்டாம்; அவள் பாதையிலே மயங்கித் திரியாதே.

25. Let not thine heart decline to her ways; go not astray in her paths.

26. அவள் அநேகரைக் காயப்படுத்தி, விழப்பண்ணினாள்; பலவான்கள் அநேகரைக் கொலைசெய்தாள்.

26. For she hath cast down many wounded; yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

27. அவள் வீடு பாதாளத்துக்குப்போகும் வழி; அது மரண அறைகளுக்குக் கொண்டுபோய்விடும்.

27. Her house is the way to hell, leading down to the chambers of death.
