1. என் மகனே, நீ என் வார்த்தைகளைக்காத்து, என் கட்டளைகளை உன்னிடத்தில் பத்திரப்படுத்து.

1. Mi sone, kepe thou my wordis; and kepe myn heestis to thee. Sone, onoure thou the Lord, and thou schalt be `myyti; but outakun hym drede thou not an alien.

2. என் கட்டளைகளையும் என் போதகத்தையும் உன் கண்மணியைப்போல் காத்துக்கொள், அப்பொழுது பிழைப்பாய்.

2. Kepe thou myn heestis, and thou schalt lyue; and my lawe as the appil of thin iyen.

3. அவைகளை உன் விரல்களில் கட்டி, அவைகளை உன் இருதயபலகையில் எழுதிக்கொள்.

3. Bynde thou it in thi fyngris; write thou it in the tablis of thin herte.

4. இச்சகவார்த்தைகளைப் பேசும் அந்நியப் பெண்ணாகிய பரஸ்திரீக்கு உன்னை விலக்கிக் காப்பதற்காக,

4. Seie thou to wisdom, Thou art my sistir; and clepe thou prudence thi frendesse.

5. ஞானத்தை நோக்கி, நீ என் சகோதரி என்றும், புத்தியைப்பார்த்து, நீ என் இனத்தாள் என்றும் சொல்வாயாக.

5. That it kepe thee fro a straunge womman; and fro an alien womman, that makith hir wordis swete.

6. நான் என் வீட்டின் ஜன்னலருகே நின்று, பலகணி வழியாய்ப் பார்த்தபோது,

6. For whi fro the wyndow of myn hous bi the latijs Y bihelde; and Y se litle children.

7. பேதையர்களாகிய வாலிபருக்குள்ளே ஒரு புத்தியீன வாலிபனைக்கண்டு அவனைக் கவனித்தேன்.

7. I biholde a yong man coward,

8. அவன் மாலைமயங்கும் அஸ்தமன நேரத்திலும், இரவின் இருண்ட அந்தகாரத்திலும்.

8. that passith bi the stretis, bisidis the corner; and he

9. அவள் இருக்கும் சந்துக்கடுத்த தெருவில் சென்று, அவள் வீட்டுவழியாய் நடந்துபோனான்.

9. goith niy the weie of hir hous in derk tyme, whanne the dai drawith to niyt, in the derknessis and myst of the nyyt.

10. அப்பொழுது இதோ, வேசியின் ஆடையாபரணந்தரித்த தந்திரமனமுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவனுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டாள்.

10. And lo! a womman, maad redi with ournement of an hoore to disseyue soulis, meetith hym, and sche is a ianglere, and goynge about,

11. அவள் வாயாடியும் அடங்காதவளுமானவள்; அவள் கால்கள் வீட்டிலே தரிக்கிறதில்லை.

11. and vnpacient of reste, and mai not stonde in the hous with hir feet;

12. சிலவேளை வெளியிலிருப்பாள், சிலவேளை வீதியிலிருப்பாள், சந்துகள்தோறும் பதிவிருப்பாள்.

12. and now without forth, now in stretis, now bisidis corneris sche `aspieth.

13. அவள் அவனைப் பிடித்து முத்தஞ்செய்து, முகம் நாணாமல் அவனைப் பார்த்து:

13. And sche takith, and kissith the yong man; and flaterith with wowynge cheer, and seith, Y ouyte sacrifices for heelthe;

14. சமாதான பலிகள் என்மேல் சுமந்திருந்தது, இன்றைக்குத்தான் என் பொருத்தனைகளை நிறைவேற்றினேன்.

14. to dai Y haue yolde my vowis.

15. ஆதலால், நான் உன்னைச் சந்திக்கப்புறப்பட்டு, உன் முகத்தை ஆவலோடு தேடினேன்; இப்பொழுது உன்னைக் கண்டுபிடித்தேன்.

15. Therfor Y yede out in to thi meetyng, and Y desiride to se thee; and Y haue founde thee.

16. என் மஞ்சத்தை இரத்தின கம்பளங்களாலும், எகிப்து தேசத்து விசித்திரமான மெல்லிய வஸ்திரங்களாலும் சிங்காரித்தேன்.

16. Y haue maad my bed with coordis, Y haue arayed with tapetis peyntid of Egipt;

17. என் படுக்கையை வெள்ளைப்போளத்தாலும் சந்தனத்தாலும் இலவங்கப்பட்டையாலும் வாசனை கட்டினேன்.

17. Y haue bispreynt my bed with myrre, and aloes, and canel.

18. வா, விடியற்காலம்வரைக்கும் சம்போகமாயிருப்போம், இன்பங்களினால் பூரிப்போம்.

18. Come thou, be we fillid with tetis, and vse we collyngis that ben coueitid; til the dai bigynne to be cleer.

19. புருஷன் வீட்டிலே இல்லை, தூரப்பிரயாணம் போனான்.

19. For myn hosebonde is not in his hows; he is goon a ful long weie.

20. பணப்பையைத் தன் கையிலே கொண்டுபோனான், குறிக்கப்பட்ட நாளிலே வீட்டுக்கு வருவான் என்று சொல்லி,

20. He took with hym a bagge of money; he schal turne ayen in to his hous in the dai of ful moone.

21. தன் மிகுதியான இனிய சொற்களால் அவனை வசப்படுத்தி, தன் உதடுகளின் மதுரவாக்கினால் அவனை இணங்கப்பண்ணினாள்.

21. Sche boonde hym with many wordis; and sche drow forth hym with flateryngis of lippis.

22. உடனே அவன் அவள் பின்னே சென்றான்; ஒரு மாடு அடிக்கப்படும்படி செல்வதுபோலும், ஒரு மூடன் விலங்கிடப்பட்டு தண்டனைக்குப் போவதுபோலும்,

22. Anoon he as an oxe led to slayn sacrifice sueth hir, and as a ioli lomb and vnkunnynge; and the fool woot not, that he is drawun to bondys,

23. ஒரு குருவி தன் பிராணனை வாங்கும் கண்ணியை அறியாமல் அதில் விழத்தீவிரிக்கிறதுபோலும், அவளுக்குப் பின்னே போனான்; அம்பு அவன் ஈரலைப் பிளந்தது.

23. til an arowe perse his mawe. As if a brid hastith to the snare; and woot not, that it is don of the perel of his lijf.

24. ஆதலால் பிள்ளைகளே, எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கவனியுங்கள்.

24. Now therfor, my sone, here thou me; and perseyue the wordis of my mouth.

25. உன் இருதயம் அவள் வழியிலே சாயவேண்டாம்; அவள் பாதையிலே மயங்கித் திரியாதே.

25. Lest thi soule be drawun awei in the weies of hir; nether be thou disseyued in the pathis of hir.

26. அவள் அநேகரைக் காயப்படுத்தி, விழப்பண்ணினாள்; பலவான்கள் அநேகரைக் கொலைசெய்தாள்.

26. For sche castide doun many woundid men; and alle strongeste men weren slayn of hir.

27. அவள் வீடு பாதாளத்துக்குப்போகும் வழி; அது மரண அறைகளுக்குக் கொண்டுபோய்விடும்.

27. The weies of helle is hir hous; and persen in to ynnere thingis of deeth.
