1. என் மகனே, என் ஞானத்தைக் கவனித்து, என் புத்திக்கு உன் செவியைச் சாய்;

1. My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my intelligence;

2. அப்பொழுது நீ விவேகத்தைப் பேணிக்கொள்வாய், உன் உதடுகள் அறிவைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும்.

2. that thou may keep council and [that] thy lips may conserve knowledge.

3. பரஸ்திரீயின் உதடுகள் தேன்கூடுபோல் ஒழுகும்; அவள் வாய் எண்ணெயிலும் மிருதுவாயிருக்கும்.

3. For the lips of the strange [woman] drop [as] a honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil,

4. அவள் செய்கையின் முடிவோ எட்டியைப்போலக் கசப்பும், இருபுறமும் கருக்குள்ள பட்டயம்போல் கூர்மையுமாயிருக்கும்.

4. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

5. அவள் காலடிகள் மரணத்துக்கு இறங்கும்; அவள் நடைகள் பாதாளத்தைப் பற்றிப்போகும்.

5. Her feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol,

6. நீ ஜீவமார்க்கத்தைச் சிந்தித்துக் கொள்ளாதபடிக்கு, அவளுடைய நடைகள் மாறிமாறி விகாரப்படும்; அவைகளை அறியமுடி.யாது.

6. lest thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them.

7. ஆதலால் பிள்ளைகளே; இப்பொழுது எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வசனங்களை விட்டு நீங்காதிருங்கள்.

7. Hear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.

8. உன் வழியை அவளுக்குத் தூரப்படுத்து; அவளுடைய வீட்டின் வாசலைக் கிட்டிச் சேராதே.

8. Remove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house,

9. சேர்ந்தால் உன் மேன்மையை அந்நியர்களுக்கும், உன் ஆயுசின் காலத்தைக் கொடூரருக்கும் கொடுத்துவிடுவாய்.

9. lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel,

10. அந்நியர் உன் செல்வத்தினால் திருப்தியடைவார்கள்; உன் பிரயாசத்தின்பலன் புறத்தியாருடைய வீட்டில் சேரும்.

10. lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours [be] in the house of a stranger,

11. முடிவிலே உன் மாம்சமும் உன் சரீரமும் உருவழியும்போது நீ துக்கித்து:

11. and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed

12. ஐயோ, போதகத்தை நான் வெறுத்தேனே, கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை என் மனம் அலட்சியம் பண்ணினதே!

12. and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof

13. என் போதகரின் சொல்லை நான் கேளாமலும், எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணினவர்களுக்கு என் செவியைச் சாயாமலும் போனேனே!

13. and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

14. சபைக்குள்ளும் சங்கத்துக்குள்ளும் கொஞ்சங்குறைய எல்லாத் தீமைக்குமுள்ளானேனே! என்று முறையிடுவாய்.

14. I have been in almost every [kind of] evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation.

15. உன் கிணற்றிலுள்ள தண்ணீரையும், உன் துரவில் ஊறுகிற ஜலத்தையும் பானம்பண்ணு.

15. Drink waters out of thine own cistern and running waters out of thine own well.

16. உன் ஊற்றுகள் வெளியிலும் உன் வாய்க்கால்கள் வீதிகளிலும் பாய்வதாக.

16. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of [thy] waters in the streets.

17. அவைகள் அந்நியருக்கும் உரியவைகளாயிராமல், உனக்கே உரியவைகளாயிருப்பதாக.

17. Let them be only thine own and not for strangers with thee.

18. உன் ஊற்றுக்கண் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவதாக; உன் இளவயதின் மனைவியோடே மகிழ்ந்திரு.

18. Thy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19. அவளே நேசிக்கப்படத்தக்க பெண்மானும், அழகான வரையாடும் போலிருப்பாளாக; அவளுடைய ஸ்தனங்களே எப்பொழுதும் உன்னைத் திருப்திசெய்வதாக; அவளுடைய நேசத்தால் நீ எப்பொழுதும் மயங்கியிருப்பாயாக.

19. [Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love, [without eyes for anyone else].

20. என் மகனே, நீ பரஸ்திரீயின் மேல் மயங்கித் திரிந்து, அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயின் மார்பைத் தழுவவேண்டியதென்ன?

20. And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21. மனுஷனுடைய வழிகள் கர்த்தரின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; அவனுடைய வழிகளெல்லாவற்றையும் அவர் சீர்தூக்கிப்பார்க்கிறார்.

21. For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

22. துன்மார்க்கனை அவனுடைய அக்கிரமங்களே பிடித்துக்கொள்ளும்; தன் பாவக்கயிறுகளால் கட்டப்படுவான்.

22. His [own] iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

23. அவன் புத்தியைக் கேளாததினால் மடிந்து, தன் மதிகேட்டின் மிகுதியினால் மயங்கிப்போவான்.

23. He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.:
