1. பூமியிலே போராட மனுஷனுக்குக் குறிக்கப்பட்ட காலம் உண்டல்லவோ? அவன் நாட்கள் ஒரு கூலிக்காரன் நாட்களைப்போல் இருக்கிறதல்லவோ?

1. Is ther not an appoynted time to man vpon earth? Are not his dayes also like the dayes of an hired seruaunt?

2. ஒரு வேலையாள் நிழலை வாஞ்சித்து, ஒரு கூலிக்காரன் தன் கூலியை வரப்பார்த்திருக்கிறதுபோல,

2. For like as a bonde seruaunt desireth the shadowe, and as an hyreling woulde fayne haue the rewarde of his worke:

3. மாயையான மாதங்கள் என்னுடைய சுதந்தரமாகி, சஞ்சலமான இராத்திரிகள் எனக்குக் குறிக்கப்பட்டது.

3. Euen so haue I laboured whole monethes long in vayne, and many a carefull night haue I tolde.

4. நான் படுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறபோது, எப்பொழுது எழுந்திருப்பேன்? இராக்காலம் எப்பொழுது முடியும் என்று சொல்லி, கிழக்கு வெளுக்குமட்டும் அரண்டு புரளுகிறதினால் எனக்குப் போதுமென்றுபோகிறது.

4. When I layde me downe to sleepe, I sayde, O when shall I arise? and measuring the euening, I am euen full with tossing to and fro vnto the dawning of the day.

5. என் மாம்சம் பூச்சிகளினாலும், அடைபற்றின புழுதியினாலும் மூடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது; என் தோல் வெடித்து அருவருப்பாயிற்று.

5. My fleshe is clothed with wormes and dust of the earth: my skinne is withered and become horrible.

6. என் நாட்கள் நெய்கிறவன் எறிகிற நாடாவிலும் தீவிரமாய் ஓடுகிறது; அவைகள் நம்பிக்கையில்லாமல் முடிந்துபோகும்.

6. My dayes passe ouer more spedyly then a weauers shuttle, and are spent without hope.

7. என் பிராணன் காற்றைப்போலிருக்கிறதென்றும், என் கண்கள் இனி நன்மையைக் காணப்போகிறதில்லையென்றும் நினைத்தருளும்.

7. O remember that my lyfe is but a winde, and that myne eye shall no more see pleasures:

8. இப்போது என்னைக் காண்கிறவர்களின் கண்கள் இனி என்னைக் காண்பதில்லை; உம்முடைய கண்கள் என்மேல் நோக்கமாயிருக்கிறது; நானோ இல்லாமற்போகிறேன்.

8. Yea and the eye that hath seene me, shal see me no more: for yer thou fasten thyne eye vpon me, I come to naught.

9. மேகம் பறந்துபோகிறதுபோல, பாதாளத்தில் இறங்குகிறவன் இனி ஏறிவரான்.

9. The cloude is consumed and vanished away: so he that goeth downe to the graue shall come no more vp,

10. இனி தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பான், அவன் ஸ்தலம் இனி அவனை அறியாது.

10. Nor turne againe into his house, neither shall his place knowe him any more.

11. ஆகையால் நான் என் வாயை அடக்காமல், என் ஆவியின் வேதனையினால் பேசி, என் ஆத்துமத்தின் கசப்பினால் அங்கலாய்ப்பேன்.

11. Therfore I wil not spare my mouth, but I will speake in the trouble of my spirite, and muse in the bitternesse of my mynde.

12. தேவரீர் என்மேல் காவல் வைக்கிறதற்கு நான் சமுத்திரமோ? நான் ஒரு திமிங்கிலமோ?

12. Am I a sea or a whale fish, that thou kepest me [so] in prison?

13. என் கட்டில் எனக்கு ஆறுதல் கொடுக்கும் என்றும், என் படுக்கை என் தவிப்பை ஆற்றும் என்றும் நான் சொல்வேனாகில்,

13. When I say, My bed shal comfort me, I shall haue some refreshing by talking to my selfe vpon my couch:

14. நீர் சொப்பனங்களால் என்னைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணி, தரிசனங்களால் எனக்குத் திகிலுண்டாக்குகிறீர்.

14. Then fearest thou me with dreames, & makest me so afrayde through visions,

15. அதினால் என் ஆத்துமா, நெருக்குண்டு சாகிறதையும், என் எலும்புகளோடே உயிரோடிருக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், மரணத்தையும் விரும்புகிறது.

15. That my soule wisheth rather to perishe and die, then my bones to remayne.

16. இப்படியிருக்கிறதை அரோசிக்கிறேன்; எந்நாளும் உயிரோடிருக்க விரும்பேன், என்னை விட்டுவிடும்; என் நாட்கள் மாயைதானே.

16. I can see no remedy, I shall liue no more: O spare me then, for my dayes are but vanitie.

17. மனுஷனை நீர் ஒரு பொருட்டாக எண்ணுகிறதற்கும், அவன்மேல் சிந்தை வைக்கிறதற்கும்,

17. What is man that thou doest magnifie him? and that thou settest thy heart vpon him?

18. காலைதோறும் அவனை விசாரிக்கிறதற்கும், நிமிஷந்தோறும் அவனைச் சோதிக்கிறதற்கும், அவன் எம்மாத்திரம்?

18. Thou visitest him early and euery day, euery moment doest thou trie him.

19. நான் என் உமிழ்நீரை விழுங்காதபடி எத்தனைகாலம் என்னை நெகிழாமலும், என்னை விடாமலும் இருப்பீர்.

19. Why goest thou not fro me, nor lettest me alone, so long till I may swalowe downe my spyttle?

20. மன்னுயிரைக்காப்பவரே, பாவஞ்செய்தேனானால் உமக்கு நான் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன? நான் எனக்குத்தானே பாரமாயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, நீர் என்னை உமக்கு இலக்காக வைத்தது என்ன?

20. I haue offended, what shall I do vnto the, O thou preseruer of men? Why hast thou set me [as a marke] against thee, so that I am a burden to my selfe?

21. என் மீறுதலை நீர் மன்னியாமலும், என் அக்கிரமத்தை நீக்காமலும் இருக்கிறது என்ன? இப்பொழுதே மண்ணில் படுத்துக்கொள்வேன்; விடியற்காலத்திலே என்னைத் தேடுவீரானால் நான் இரேன் என்றான்.

21. Why doest thou not pardon my trespasses, and take away myne iniquitie? Behold, nowe must I sleepe in the dust, and if thou sekest me to morowe in the morning, I shal not be.
