1. ஸ்திரீயினிடத்தில் பிறந்த மனுஷன் வாழ்நாள் குறுகினவனும் சஞ்சலம் நிறைந்தவனுமாயிருக்கிறான்.

1. Man that is borne of woman, is of short continuance, and full of trouble.

2. அவன் பூவைப்போலப் பூத்து அறுப்புண்கிறான்; நிழலைப்போல நிலைநிற்காமல் ஓடிப்போகிறான்.

2. He shooteth foorth as a flowre, and is cut downe: he vanisheth also as a shadowe, and continueth not.

3. ஆகிலும் இப்படிப்பட்டவன்மேல் நீர் உம்முடைய கண்களைத் திறந்துவைத்து, உம்முடைய நியாயத்துக்கு என்னைக் கொண்டுபோவீரோ?

3. And yet thou openest thine eyes vpon such one, and causest me to enter into iudgement with thee.

4. அசுத்தமானதிலிருந்து சுத்தமானதைப் பிறப்பிக்கத்தக்கவன் உண்டோ? ஒருவனுமில்லை.

4. Who can bring a cleane thing out of filthinesse? there is not one.

5. அவனுடைய நாட்கள் இம்மாத்திரம் என்று குறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கையால், அவனுடைய மாதங்களின் தொகை உம்மிடத்தில் இருக்கிறது; அவன் கடந்துபோகக்கூடாத எல்லையை அவனுக்கு ஏற்படுத்தினீர்.

5. Are not his dayes determined? the nober of his moneths are with thee: thou hast appointed his boundes, which he can not passe.

6. அவன் ஒரு கூலிக்காரனைப்போல் தன் நாளின் வேலையாயிற்று என்று ரம்மியப்படுமட்டும் அவன் ஓய்ந்திருக்கும்படி உமது பார்வையை அவனைவிட்டு விலக்கும்.

6. Turne from him that he may cease vntill his desired day, as an hyreling.

7. ஒரு மரத்தைக்குறித்தாவது நம்பிக்கையுண்டு; அது வெட்டிப்போடப்பட்டாலும் திரும்பத் தழைக்கும், அதின் இளங்கிளைகள் துளிர்க்கும்;

7. For there is hope of a tree, if it bee cut downe, that it will yet sproute, and the branches thereof will not cease.

8. அதின் வேர் தரையிலே பழையதாகி, அதின் அடிக்கட்டை மண்ணிலே செத்தாலும்,

8. Though the roote of it waxe olde in the earth, and the stocke thereof be dead in ye ground,

9. தண்ணீரின் வாசனையினால் அது துளிர்த்து, இளமரம்போலக் கிளைவிடும்.

9. Yet by the sent of water it will bud, and bring foorth boughes like a plant.

10. மனுஷனோவென்றால் செத்தபின் ஒழிந்துபோகிறான், மனுபுத்திரன் ஜீவித்துப்போனபின் அவன் எங்கே?

10. But man is sicke, and dyeth, and man perisheth, and where is he?

11. தண்ணீர் ஏரியிலிருந்து வடிந்து, வெள்ளம் வற்றிச் சுவறிப்போகிறதுபோல,

11. As the waters passe from the sea, and as the flood decayeth and dryeth vp,

12. மனுஷன் படுத்துக்கிடக்கிறான், வானங்கள் ஒழிந்துபோகுமளவும் எழுந்திருக்கிறதும் இல்லை, நித்திரை தெளிந்து விழிக்கிறதும் இல்லை.

12. So man sleepeth and riseth not: for hee shall not wake againe, nor be raised from his sleepe till the heauen be no more.

13. நீர் என்னைப் பாதாளத்தில் ஒளித்து, உமது கோபம் தீருமட்டும் என்னை மறைத்து, என்னைத் திரும்ப நினைக்கும்படிக்கு எனக்கு ஒரு காலத்தைக் குறித்தால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

13. Oh that thou wouldest hide me in the graue, and keepe me secret, vntill thy wrath were past, and wouldest giue me terme, and remember me.

14. மனுஷன் செத்தபின் பிழைப்பானோ? எனக்கு மாறுதல் எப்போது வருமென்று எனக்குக் குறிக்கப்பட்ட போராட்டத்தின் நாளெல்லாம் நான் காத்திருக்கிறேன்.

14. If a man die, shall he liue againe? All the dayes of mine appointed time will I waite, till my changing shall come.

15. என்னைக் கூப்பிடும், அப்பொழுது நான் உமக்கு உத்தரவு சொல்லுவேன்; உமது கைகளின் கிரியையின்மேல் விருப்பம் வைப்பீராக.

15. Thou shalt call me, and I shall answere thee: thou louest the worke of thine own hands.

16. இப்பொழுது என் நடைகளை எண்ணுகிறீர்; என் பாவத்தின்மேலல்லவோ கவனமாயிருக்கிறீர்.

16. But nowe thou nombrest my steppes, and doest not delay my sinnes.

17. என் மீறுதல் ஒரு கட்டாகக் கட்டப்பட்டு முத்திரைபோடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது, என் அக்கிரமத்தை ஒருமிக்கச் சேர்த்தீர்.

17. Mine iniquitie is sealed vp, as in a bagge, and thou addest vnto my wickednesse.

18. மலைமுதலாய் விழுந்து கரைந்துபோகும்; கன்மலை தன் இடத்தைவிட்டுப்பேர்ந்துபோகும்.

18. And surely as the mountaine that falleth, commeth to nought, and the rocke that is remooued from his place:

19. தண்ணீர் கற்களைக் குடையும்; ஜலப்பிரவாகம் பூமியின் தூளில் முளைத்ததை மூடும்; அப்படியே மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கையை அழிக்கிறீர்.

19. As the water breaketh the stones, when thou ouerflowest the things which growe in the dust of ye earth: so thou destroyest ye hope of man.

20. நீர் என்றைக்கும் அவனைப் பெலனாய் நெருக்குகிறதினால் அவன் போய்விடுகிறான்; அவன் முகரூபத்தை மாறப்பண்ணி அவனை அனுப்பிவிடுகிறீர்.

20. Thou preuailest alway against him, so that he passeth away: he changeth his face when thou castest him away.

21. அவன் பிள்ளைகள் கனமடைந்தாலும் அவன் உணரான்; அவர்கள் சிறுமைப்பட்டாலும் அவர்களைக் கவனியான்.

21. And he knoweth not if his sonnes shall be honourable, neither shall he vnderstand concerning them, whether they shalbe of lowe degree,

22. அவன் மாம்சம் அவனிலிருக்குமளவும் அதற்கு நோவிருக்கும்; அவன் ஆத்துமா அவனுக்குள்ளிருக்குமட்டும் அதற்குத் துக்கமுண்டு என்றான்.

22. But while his flesh is vpon him, he shall be sorowfull, and while his soule is in him, it shall mourne.
