1. என் ஆத்துமா ஜீவனை அரோசிக்கிறது, நான் என் துயரத்துக்கு எனக்குள்ளே இடங்கொடுத்து, என் மனச்சஞ்சலத்தினாலே பேசுவேன்.

1. it grieveth my soul to live. Nevertheless, now will I put forth my words: I will speak out of the very heaviness of my soul,

2. நான் தேவனை நோக்கி: என்னைக் குற்றவாளியென்று தீர்க்காதிரும்; நீர் எதினிமித்தம் என்னோடே வழக்காடுகிறீர், அதை எனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்தும் என்பேன்.

2. and will say unto God: O do not condemn me: but shew me the cause, wherefore thou judgest me on this manner.

3. நீர் என்னை ஒடுக்கி, உம்முடைய கைகளின் கிரியையை வெறுத்து, துன்மார்க்கரின் யோசனையைக் கிருபையாய்ப் பார்க்கிறது உமக்கு நன்றாயிருக்குமோ?

3. Thinkest thou it well done, to oppress me, to cast me off (being a work of thine hands) and to maintain the counsel of the ungodly?

4. மாம்சக்கண்கள் உமக்கு உண்டோ? மனுஷன் பார்க்கிறபிரகாரமாய்ப் பார்க்கிறீரோ?

4. Hast thou fleshly eyes then, or doest thou look as a man looketh?

5. நீர் என் அக்கிரமத்தைக் கிண்டிக்கிளப்பி, என் பாவத்தை ஆராய்ந்து விசாரிக்கிறதற்கு,

5. Are thy days as the days of man, and thy years as man's years?

6. உம்முடைய நாட்கள் ஒரு மனுஷனுடைய நாட்களைப்போலவும், உம்முடைய வருஷங்கள் ஒரு புருஷனுடைய ஜீவகாலத்தைப்போலவும் இருக்கிறதோ?

6. That thou makest such inquisition for my wickedness, and searchest out my sin?

7. நான் துன்மார்க்கன் அல்ல என்பது உமக்குத் தெரியும்; உம்முடைய கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவிக்கிறவன் இல்லை.

7. Whereas (notwithstanding) thou knowest that I am no wicked person, and that there is no man able to deliver me out of thine hand.

8. உம்முடைய கரங்கள் என்னையும் எனக்குரிய எல்லாவற்றையும் உருவாக்கிப் படைத்திருந்தும், என்னை நிர்மூலமாக்குகிறீர்.

8. Thy hands have made me, and fashioned me altogether round about, wilt thou then destroy me suddenly?

9. களிமண்போல என்னை உருவாக்கினீர் என்பதையும், என்னைத் திரும்பத் தூளாகப்போகப்பண்ணுவீர் என்பதையும் நினைத்தருளும்.

9. O remember (I beseek thee) how that thou madest me of the mould of the earth, and shalt bring me to earth again.

10. நீர் என்னைப் பால்போல் வார்த்து, தயிர்போல் உறையப்பண்ணினீர் அல்லவோ?

10. Hast thou not milked me, as it were milk: and turned me to curdles like cheese?

11. தோலையும் சதையையும் எனக்குத் தரித்து, எலும்புகளாலும் நரம்புகளாலும் என்னை இசைத்தீர்.

11. Thou hast covered me with skin and flesh, and joined me together with bones and sinews.

12. எனக்கு ஜீவனைத் தந்ததும் அல்லாமல், தயவையும் எனக்குப் பாராட்டினீர்; உம்முடைய பராமரிப்பு என் ஆவியைக் காப்பாற்றினது.

12. Thou hast granted me life, and done me good: and the diligent heed that thou tookest upon me, hath preserved my spirit.

13. இவைகள் உம்முடைய உள்ளத்தில் மறைந்திருந்தாலும், இது உமக்குள் இருக்கிறது என்று அறிவேன்.

13. Though thou hidest these things in thine heart, yet am I sure, that thou rememberest them all.

14. நான் பாவஞ்செய்தால், அதை நீர் என்னிடத்தில் விசாரித்து, என் அக்கிரமத்தை என்மேல் சுமத்தாமல் விடீர்.

14. Wherefore didst thou keep me, when I sinned, and hast not cleansed me from mine offense?

15. நான் துன்மார்க்கனாயிருந்தால் எனக்கு ஐயோ! நான் நீதிமானாயிருந்தாலும் என் தலையை நான் எடுக்கமாட்டேன்; அவமானத்தால் நிரப்பப்பட்டேன்; நீர் என் சிறுமையைப் பார்த்தருளும், அது அதிகரிக்கிறது.

15. If I do wickedly, woe is me therefore: If I be righteous, yet dare I not lift up my head: so full am I of confusion, and see mine own misery.

16. சிங்கத்தைப்போல என்னை வேட்டையாடி, எனக்கு விரோதமாய் உமது அதிசய வல்லமையை விளங்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்.

16. Thou huntest me out (being in heaviness) as it were a Lion, and troublest me out of measure.

17. நீர் உம்முடைய சாட்சிகளை எனக்கு விரோதமாய் இரட்டிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; என்மேல் உம்முடைய கோபத்தை அதிகரிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; போராட்டத்தின்மேல் போராட்டம் அதிகரிக்கிறது.

17. Thou bringest fresh witnesses against me, thy wrath increasest thou upon me, very many are the plagues that I am in.

18. நீர் என்னைக் கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணினது என்ன? ஒரு கண்ணும் என்னைக் காணாதபடி, நான் அப்பொழுதே ஜீவித்துப்போனால் நலமாமே.

18. Wherefore hast thou brought me out of my mother's womb? O that I had perished, and that no eye had seen me.

19. நான் ஒருக்காலும் இல்லாதது போலிருந்து, கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து பிரேதக்குழிக்குக் கொண்டுபோகப்பட்டிருப்பேன்.

19. If they had carried me to my grave, as soon as I was born, then should I be now, as though I had never been.

20. என் நாட்கள் கொஞ்சமல்லவோ?

20. Shall not my short life come so soon to an end? O hold thee from me, let me alone, that I may ease myself a little

21. காரிருளும் மரணாந்தகாரமுமான இருண்ட தேசமும், இருள்சூழ்ந்த ஒழுங்கில்லாத மரணாந்தகாரமுள்ள தேசமும், ஒளியும் இருளாகும் தேசமுமாகிய, போனால் திரும்பிவராத தேசத்துக்கு, நான் போகுமுன்னே,

21. afore I go thither, from whence I shall not turn again. Namely, to that land of darkness and shadow of death:

22. நான் சற்று இளைப்பாறும்படி நீர் என்னைவிட்டு ஓய்ந்திரும் என்றான்.

22. yea into that dark cloudy land and deadly shadow, where as is no order, but terrible fear as in the darkness.
