1. என் ஆத்துமா ஜீவனை அரோசிக்கிறது, நான் என் துயரத்துக்கு எனக்குள்ளே இடங்கொடுத்து, என் மனச்சஞ்சலத்தினாலே பேசுவேன்.

1. My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

2. நான் தேவனை நோக்கி: என்னைக் குற்றவாளியென்று தீர்க்காதிரும்; நீர் எதினிமித்தம் என்னோடே வழக்காடுகிறீர், அதை எனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்தும் என்பேன்.

2. I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why thou contendest with me.

3. நீர் என்னை ஒடுக்கி, உம்முடைய கைகளின் கிரியையை வெறுத்து, துன்மார்க்கரின் யோசனையைக் கிருபையாய்ப் பார்க்கிறது உமக்கு நன்றாயிருக்குமோ?

3. {Is it} good to thee that thou shouldst oppress, that thou shouldst despise the work of thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

4. மாம்சக்கண்கள் உமக்கு உண்டோ? மனுஷன் பார்க்கிறபிரகாரமாய்ப் பார்க்கிறீரோ?

4. Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?

5. நீர் என் அக்கிரமத்தைக் கிண்டிக்கிளப்பி, என் பாவத்தை ஆராய்ந்து விசாரிக்கிறதற்கு,

5. {Are} thy days as the days of man? {are} thy years as man's days,

6. உம்முடைய நாட்கள் ஒரு மனுஷனுடைய நாட்களைப்போலவும், உம்முடைய வருஷங்கள் ஒரு புருஷனுடைய ஜீவகாலத்தைப்போலவும் இருக்கிறதோ?

6. That thou inquirest after my iniquity, and searchest after my sin?

7. நான் துன்மார்க்கன் அல்ல என்பது உமக்குத் தெரியும்; உம்முடைய கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவிக்கிறவன் இல்லை.

7. Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and {there is} none that can deliver out of thy hand.

8. உம்முடைய கரங்கள் என்னையும் எனக்குரிய எல்லாவற்றையும் உருவாக்கிப் படைத்திருந்தும், என்னை நிர்மூலமாக்குகிறீர்.

8. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me in all my parts; yet thou dost destroy me.

9. களிமண்போல என்னை உருவாக்கினீர் என்பதையும், என்னைத் திரும்பத் தூளாகப்போகப்பண்ணுவீர் என்பதையும் நினைத்தருளும்.

9. Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?

10. நீர் என்னைப் பால்போல் வார்த்து, தயிர்போல் உறையப்பண்ணினீர் அல்லவோ?

10. Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?

11. தோலையும் சதையையும் எனக்குத் தரித்து, எலும்புகளாலும் நரம்புகளாலும் என்னை இசைத்தீர்.

11. Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.

12. எனக்கு ஜீவனைத் தந்ததும் அல்லாமல், தயவையும் எனக்குப் பாராட்டினீர்; உம்முடைய பராமரிப்பு என் ஆவியைக் காப்பாற்றினது.

12. Thou hast granted me life and favor, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

13. இவைகள் உம்முடைய உள்ளத்தில் மறைந்திருந்தாலும், இது உமக்குள் இருக்கிறது என்று அறிவேன்.

13. And these {things} hast thou hid in thy heart: I know that this {is} with thee.

14. நான் பாவஞ்செய்தால், அதை நீர் என்னிடத்தில் விசாரித்து, என் அக்கிரமத்தை என்மேல் சுமத்தாமல் விடீர்.

14. If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from my iniquity.

15. நான் துன்மார்க்கனாயிருந்தால் எனக்கு ஐயோ! நான் நீதிமானாயிருந்தாலும் என் தலையை நான் எடுக்கமாட்டேன்; அவமானத்தால் நிரப்பப்பட்டேன்; நீர் என் சிறுமையைப் பார்த்தருளும், அது அதிகரிக்கிறது.

15. If I be wicked, woe to me; and {if} I be righteous, {yet} will I not lift up my head. {I am} full of confusion; therefore see thou my affliction;

16. சிங்கத்தைப்போல என்னை வேட்டையாடி, எனக்கு விரோதமாய் உமது அதிசய வல்லமையை விளங்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்.

16. For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou showest thyself wonderful upon me.

17. நீர் உம்முடைய சாட்சிகளை எனக்கு விரோதமாய் இரட்டிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; என்மேல் உம்முடைய கோபத்தை அதிகரிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; போராட்டத்தின்மேல் போராட்டம் அதிகரிக்கிறது.

17. Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thy indignation upon me; changes and war {are} against me.

18. நீர் என்னைக் கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணினது என்ன? ஒரு கண்ணும் என்னைக் காணாதபடி, நான் அப்பொழுதே ஜீவித்துப்போனால் நலமாமே.

18. Why then hast thou brought me forth from the womb? O that I had expired, and no eye had seen me!

19. நான் ஒருக்காலும் இல்லாதது போலிருந்து, கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து பிரேதக்குழிக்குக் கொண்டுபோகப்பட்டிருப்பேன்.

19. I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

20. என் நாட்கள் கொஞ்சமல்லவோ?

20. {Are} not my days few? cease {then}, {and} let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,

21. காரிருளும் மரணாந்தகாரமுமான இருண்ட தேசமும், இருள்சூழ்ந்த ஒழுங்கில்லாத மரணாந்தகாரமுள்ள தேசமும், ஒளியும் இருளாகும் தேசமுமாகிய, போனால் திரும்பிவராத தேசத்துக்கு, நான் போகுமுன்னே,

21. Before I go {whence} I shall not return, {even} to the land of darkness, and the shades of death;

22. நான் சற்று இளைப்பாறும்படி நீர் என்னைவிட்டு ஓய்ந்திரும் என்றான்.

22. A land of darkness, as darkness {itself}; {and} of the shades of death, without any order, and {where} the light {is} as darkness.
