1. And David mustered the people who were with him, and appointed commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds over them.

2. And David sent out one third of the people under the hand of Joab, one third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one third under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I shall proceed to go out with you myself also.

3. But the people answered, You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us; for you are like ten thousand of us now. You are now more help to us in the city.

4. And the king said to them, I will do what is good in your eyes. So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.

5. ராஜா யோவாபையும், அபிசாயையும், ஈத்தாயையும் நோக்கி: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோமை என்னிமித்தம் மெதுவாய் நடப்பியுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்; இப்படி ராஜா அப்சலோமைக் குறித்து அதிபதிகளுக்கெல்லாம் கட்டளையிட்டதை ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் கேட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

5. And the king commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom. And all the people heard when the king charged the commanders concerning Absalom.

6. ஜனங்கள் வெளியே இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டபிற்பாடு, எப்பிராயீம் காட்டிலே யுத்தம் நடந்தது.

6. So the people went out into the field to meet Israel. And the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.

7. அங்கே இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்கள் தாவீதின் சேவகருக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள்; அங்கே அன்றையதினம் இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் மடியத்தக்கதாக பெரிய சங்காரம் உண்டாயிற்று.

7. The people of Israel were smitten there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand.

8. யுத்தம் அந்த தேசம் எங்கும் பரந்தது; அன்றையதினம் பட்டயம் பட்சித்த ஜனங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும், காடு பட்சித்த ஜனம் அதிகம்.

8. And the battle was scattered over the face of all the land, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword had devoured.

9. And Absalom was encountered before the servants of David. Absalom was riding on a mule, the mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between the heavens and earth; and the mule which was under him went on.

10. அதை ஒருவன் கண்டு, யோவாபுக்கு அறிவித்து: இதோ, அப்சலோமை ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்திலே தொங்கக் கண்டேன் என்றான்.

10. And a certain man saw it and reported to Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in a terebinth tree!

11. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் தனக்கு அதை அறிவித்தவனை நோக்கி: நீ அதைக்கண்டாயே; பின்னை ஏன் அவனை அங்கே வெட்டி, தரையிலே தள்ளிப்போடவில்லை? நான் உனக்குப் பத்து வெள்ளிக்காசையும் ஒரு கச்சையையும் கொடுக்கக் கடமையுள்ளவனாயிருப்பேனே என்றான்.

11. And Joab said to the man who reported to him, Behold, you have seen; and why did you not strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt.

12. அந்த மனுஷன் யோவாபை நோக்கி: என் கைகளில் ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு நிறுத்துக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டாலும், நான் ராஜாவுடைய குமாரன்மேல் என் கையை நீட்டமாட்டேன்; பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோமை நீங்கள் அவரவர் காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்று ராஜா உமக்கும் அபிசாய்க்கும் ஈத்தாய்க்கும் எங்கள் காதுகள் கேட்கக் கட்டளையிட்டாரே.

12. And the man said to Joab, Though I were to receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, I would not put forth my hand against the king's son. For in our ears the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take heed that no one touches the young man Absalom!

13. ராஜாவுக்கு ஒரு காரியமும் மறைவாயிருக்கமாட்டாது; ஆதலால், நான் அதைச் செய்வேனாகில், என் பிராணனுக்கே விரோதமாகச் செய்பவனாவேன், நீரும் எனக்கு விரோதமாயிருப்பீர் என்றான்.

13. Otherwise I would have dealt falsely against my own soul. For there is nothing hidden from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against me.

14. ஆதலால் யோவாப்: நான் இப்படி உன்னோடே பேசி, தாமதிக்கமாட்டேன் என்று சொல்லி, தன் கையிலே மூன்று வல்லயங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அப்சலோம் இன்னும் கர்வாலி மரத்தின் நடுவிலே உயிரோடே தொங்குகையில், அவைகளை அவன் நெஞ்சிலே குத்தினான்.

14. And Joab said, I cannot wait before you. And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom's heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.

15. அப்பொழுது யோவாபின் ஆயுததாரிகளாகிய பத்து சேவகர் அப்சலோமைச் சூழ்ந்து அவனை அடித்துக்கொன்று போட்டார்கள்.

15. And ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded Absalom, and struck and killed him.

16. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் எக்காளம் ஊதி ஜனங்களை நிறுத்திப்போட்டபடியினால், ஜனங்கள் இஸ்ரவேலைப் பின்தொடருகிறதை விட்டுத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

16. And Joab blew the shofar, and the people returned from pursuing Israel. For Joab had held back the people.

17. அவர்கள் அப்சலோமை எடுத்து, அவனைக் காட்டிலுள்ள ஒரு பெரிய குழியிலே போட்டு, அவன்மேல் மகா பெரிய கற்குவியலைக் குவித்தார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அவரவர் தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்கு ஓடிப்போனார்கள்.

17. And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the forest, and laid a very large heap of stones over him. And all Israel fled, everyone to his tent.

18. அப்சலோம் உயிரோடே இருக்கையில்: என் பேரை நினைக்கப்பண்ணும்படியாக எனக்குக் குமாரன் இல்லை என்று சொல்லி, ராஜாவின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே தனக்கென்று ஒரு தூணை நிறுத்தி, அந்தத் தூணுக்குத் தன் பேரைத் தரித்திருந்தான்; அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் அப்சலோமின் அடையாளம் என்று சொல்லப்படும்.

18. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a pillar for himself, which is in the King's Valley; for he thought, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance. He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom's Monument.

19. சாதோக்கின் குமாரனாகிய அகிமாஸ்: கர்த்தர் ராஜாவை அவர் சத்துருக்களின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி நியாயஞ்செய்தார் என்னும் செய்தியை அவருக்குக் கொண்டுபோக, நான் ஓடட்டுமே என்றான்.

19. Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, Let me run now and bear good news to the king, how Jehovah has avenged him of his enemies.

20. யோவாப் அவனை நோக்கி: இன்னைறயதினம் நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டு போகக்கூடாது; இன்னொரு நாளிலே நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டு போகலாம்; ராஜாவின் குமாரன் செத்தபடியினால், இன்றைக்கு நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டுபோகவேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லி,

20. And Joab said to him, You are not the man for tidings this day, but you shall bear good news another day. But today you shall not bear good news, because the king's son is dead.

21. யோவாப் கூஷியை நோக்கி: நீ போய், கண்டதை ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவி என்றான்; கூஷி யோவாபை வணங்கி ஓடினான்.

21. Then Joab said to Cushi, Go, tell the king what you have seen. So Cushi bowed himself to Joab and ran.

22. சாதோக்கின் குமாரனாகிய அகிமாஸ் இன்னும் யோவாபை நோக்கி: எப்படியானாலும் கூஷியின் பிறகாலே நானும் ஓடட்டுமே என்று திரும்பக் கேட்டதற்கு, யோவாப்: என் மகனே, சொல்லும்படி உனக்கு நல்ல செய்தி இல்லாதிருக்கையில், நீ ஓடவேண்டியது என்ன என்றான்.

22. And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, But whatever happens, please let me also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why will you run, my son, since you have no news ready?

23. அதற்கு அவன்: எப்படியானாலும் நான் ஓடுவேன் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது யோவாப்: ஓடு என்றான்; அப்படியே அகிமாஸ் சமனான பூமிவழியாயோடி கூஷிக்கு முந்திக்கொண்டான்.

23. But whatever the case, he said, Let me run. So he said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain, and outran Cushi.

24. தாவீது இரண்டு ஒலிமுகக் கெவுனிவாசலுக்கு நடுவாக உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; ஜாமங்காக்கிறவன் அலங்கத்திலிருக்கிற கெவுனியின்மேல் நடந்து, தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்து, இதோ, ஒரு மனுஷன் தனியே ஓடிவருகிறதைக் கண்டு,

24. Now David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall, lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was running alone.

25. கூப்பிட்டு ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவித்தான். அப்பொழுது ராஜா: அவன் ஒருவனாய் வந்தால், அவன் வாயிலே நல்ல செய்தி இருக்கும் என்றான்; அவன் ஓடிகிட்டவரும்போது,

25. And the watchman cried out and reported to the king. And the king said, If he is alone, there is news in his mouth. And he proceeded to come and drew near.

26. ஜாமங்காக்கிறவன், வேறொருவன் ஓடிவருகிறதைக் கண்டு: அதோ பின்னொருவன் தனியே ஓடிவருகிறான் என்று வாசல் காக்கிறவனோடே கூப்பிட்டுச் சொன்னான்; அப்பொழுது ராஜா: அவனும் நல்ல செய்தி கொண்டுவருகிறவன் என்றான்.

26. Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, There is another man running alone! And the king said, He also brings news.

27. மேலும் ஜாமங்காக்கிறவன்; முந்தினவனுடைய ஓட்டம் சாதோக்கின் குமாரன் அகிமாசுடைய ஓட்டம்போலிருக்கிறது என்று எனக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது என்றான்; அப்பொழுது ராஜா: அவன் நல்ல மனுஷன்; அவன் நல்ல செய்தி சொல்ல வருகிறான் என்றான்.

27. And the watchman said, It looks like the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and comes with good news.

28. அகிமாஸ் வந்து ராஜாவை நோக்கி: சமாதானம் என்று சொல்லி, முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து, ராஜாவை வணங்கி, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தங்கள் கைகளை எடுத்த மனுஷரை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்திருக்கிற உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் உண்டாவதாக என்றான்.

28. And Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, Peace! And he bowed down with his face to the earth to the king, and said, Blessed is Jehovah your God, who has delivered up the men who had lifted up their hand against my lord the king!

29. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோம் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா என்று கேட்டதற்கு, அகிமாஸ் யோவாப் ராஜாவின் வேலைக்காரனையும் உம்முடைய அடியானையும் அனுப்புகிறபோது, ஒரு பெரிய சந்தடியிருந்தது; ஆனாலும் அது இன்னதென்று தெரியாது என்றான்.

29. And king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about.

30. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: நீ அங்கே போய் நில் என்றான்; அவன் ஒரு பக்கத்தில் போய் நின்றான்.

30. And the king said, Turn aside and stand here. So he turned aside and remained standing.

31. இதோ, கூஷி வந்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, நற்செய்தி, இன்று கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விரோதமாயெழும்பின எல்லாரின் கைக்கும் உம்மை நீங்கலாக்கி நியாயஞ்செய்தார் என்றான்.

31. And then Cushi came, and Cushi said, Good news, my lord the king! For Jehovah has avenged you this day of all those who were rising up against you.

32. அப்பொழுது ராஜா கூஷியைப் பார்த்து: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோம் சுகமாயிருக்கிறனா என்று கேட்டதற்கு, கூஷி என்பவன்: அந்தப் பிள்ளையாண்டானுக்கு நடந்ததுபோல, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய சத்துருக்களுக்கும், பொல்லாப்புச் செய்ய உமக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்புகிற யாவருக்கும் நடக்கக்கடவது என்றான்.

32. And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who have risen up against you to do harm, be like that young man!

33. அப்பொழுது ராஜா மிகவும் கலங்கி, கெவுனிவாசலின் மேல்வீட்டிற்குள் ஏறிப்போய் அழுதான்; அவன் ஏறிப்போகையில்: என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, நான் உனக்குப் பதிலாகச் செத்தேனானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனே, என்று சொல்லி அழுதான்.

33. And the king was disquieted, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: O my son Absalom; my son, my son Absalom; O that I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!
