1. தேவன் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்து, நீ உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் முகத்திற்கு விலகி ஓடிப்போகிறபோது, உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கு என்றார்.

1. And God said unto Jacob, arise and get thee up to Bethel, and dwell there. And make there an altar unto God that appeared unto thee, when thou fleddest from Esau thy brother.

2. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் வீட்டாரையும் தன்னோடேகூட இருந்த மற்ற அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கிற அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை விலக்கிப்போட்டு, உங்களைச் சுத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களை மாற்றுங்கள்.

2. Then said Jacob unto his household and to all that were with him, put away the strange gods that are among you and make your selves clean, and change your garments,

3. நாம் எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள்; எனக்கு ஆபத்து நேரிட்ட நாளில் என் விண்ணப்பத்துக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்து, நான் நடந்த வழியிலே என்னோடேகூட இருந்த தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்குவேன் என்றான்.

3. and let us arise and go up to Bethel, that I may make an altar there, unto God which heard me in the day of my tribulation and was with me in the way which I went.

4. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தங்கள் கையில் இருந்த எல்லா அந்நிய தெய்வங்களையும், தங்கள் காதணிகளையும் யாக்கோபிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்கள்; யாக்கோபு அவைகளைச் சீகேம் ஊர் அருகே இருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழே புதைத்துப்போட்டான்.

4. And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were under their hands, and all their earings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under an oak at Sichem.

5. பின்பு பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருந்த பட்டணத்தாருக்குத் தேவனாலே பயங்கரம் உண்டானதினால், அவர்கள் யாக்கோபின் குமாரரைப் பின்தொடராதிருந்தார்கள்.

5. And they departed. And the fear of God fell upon the cities that were round about them, that they durst not follow after the sons of Jacob.

6. யாக்கோபும் அவனோடேகூட இருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களும் கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்தேல் என்னும் லூசுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

6. So came Jacob to Lus in the land of Canaan, otherwise called Bethel, with all the people that was with him.

7. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக்கட்டி, தன் சகோதரனுடைய முகத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினபோது, அங்கே தனக்கு தேவன் தரிசனமானபடியால், அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு ஏல்பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

7. And he builded there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because that God(the LORDe) appeared unto him there, when he fled from his brother.

8. ரெபெக்காளின் தாதியாகிய தெபொராள் மரித்து, பெத்தேலுக்குச் சமீபமாயிருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழ் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டாள்; அதற்கு அல்லோன்பாகூத் என்னும் பேர் உண்டாயிற்று.

8. Then died Debora Rebecca's nurse, and was buried beneath Bethel under an oak. And the name of it was called the oak of lamentation.

9. யாக்கோபு பதான் அராமிலிருந்து வந்தபின்பு தேவன் அவனுக்கு மறுபடியும் தரிசனமாகி, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து:

9. And God appeared unto Jacob again after he came out of Mesopotamia, and blessed him

10. இப்பொழுது உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு, இனி உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு என்னப்படாமல், இஸ்ரவேல் என்று உனக்குப் பேர் வழங்கும் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் என்று பேரிட்டார்.

10. and said unto him: Thy name is Jacob. Notwithstanding thou shalt be no more called Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And so was his name called Israel.

11. பின்னும் தேவன் அவனை நோக்கி: நான் சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன், நீ பலுகிப் பெருகுவாயாக; ஒரு ஜாதியும் பற்பல ஜாதிகளின் கூட்டங்களும் உன்னிலிருந்து உண்டாகும்; ராஜாக்களும் உன் சந்ததியில் பிறப்பார்கள்.

11. And God said unto him: I am God allmighty, grow and multiply: for people and a multitude of people shall spring of thee, yea and kings shall come out of thy loins.

12. நான் ஆபிரகாமுக்கும் ஈசாக்குக்கும் கொடுத்த தேசத்தை உனக்குக் கொடுப்பேன்; உனக்குப்பின் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் இந்த தேசத்தைக் கொடுப்பேன் என்று சொல்லி,
எபிரேயர் 11:9

12. And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, will I give unto thee, and unto thy seed after thee will I give it also.

13. தேவன் அவனோடே பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து அவனைவிட்டு எழுந்தருளிப்போனார்.

13. And God departed from him in the place where he talked with him.

14. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன்னோடே அவர் பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலே ஒரு கற்றூணை நிறுத்தி, அதின்மேல் பானபலியை ஊற்றி, எண்ணையையும் வார்த்தான்.

14. And Jacob set up a mark in the place where he talked with him: even a pillar of stone, and poured drink offering thereon and poured also oil thereon,

15. தேவன் தன்னோடே பேசின அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு யாக்கோபு பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

15. and called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.

16. பின்பு, பெத்தேலை விட்டுப் பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள். எப்பிராத்தாவுக்கு வர இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் தூரமிருக்கும்போது, ராகேல் பிள்ளைபெற்றாள்; பிரசவத்தில் அவளுக்குக் கடும்வேதனை உண்டாயிற்று.

16. And they departed from Bethel, and when he was but a field brede from Ephrath, Rahel began to travail. And in travailing she was in peril.

17. பிரசவிக்கும்போது, அவளுக்குக் கடும் வேதனையாயிருக்கையில், மருத்துவச்சி அவளைப் பார்த்து: பயப்படாதே, இந்த முறையும் புத்திரனைப் பெறுவாய் என்றாள்.

17. And as she was in pains of her labour, the midwife said unto her: fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.

18. மரணகாலத்தில் அவள் ஆத்துமா பிரியும்போது, அவள் அவனுக்கு பெனொனி என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் தகப்பனோ, அவனுக்கு பென்யமீன் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

18. Then as her soul was departing, that she must die: she called his name Ben Oni. But his father called him Ben Jamin.

19. ராகேல் மரித்து, பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம் பண்ணப்பட்டாள்.

19. And thus died Rahel and was buried in the way to Ephrath which now is called Bethlehem.

20. அவள் கல்லறையின்மேல் யாக்கோபு ஒரு தூணை நிறுத்தினான்; அதுவே இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற ராகேலுடைய கல்லறையின் தூண்.

20. And Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave, which is called Rahel's grave pillar unto this day.

21. இஸ்ரவேல் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, ஏதேர் என்கிற கோபுரத்திற்கு அப்புறத்தில் கூடாரம் போட்டான்.

21. And Israel went thence and pitched up his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

22. இஸ்ரவேல் அந்தத் தேசத்தில் தங்கிக் குடியிருக்கும்போது, ரூபன் போய், தன் தகப்பனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய பில்காளோடே சயனித்தான்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் கேள்விப்பட்டான்.

22. And it chanced as Israel dwelt in that land, that Ruben went and lay with Bilha his father's concubine, and it came to Israel's ear. The sons of Jacob were twelve in number.

23. யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் பன்னிரண்டு பேர். யாக்கோபின் மூத்தமகனாகிய ரூபன், சிமியோன், லேவி, யூதா, இசக்கார், செபுலோன் என்பவர்கள் லேயாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

23. The sons of Lea: Ruben, Jacob's eldest son, and Simeon, Levi, Juda, Isachar, and Zabulon.

24. யோசேப்பு, பென்யமீன் என்பவர்கள் ராகேல் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

24. The sons of Rahel: Joseph and Ben Jamin.

25. தாண், நப்தலி என்பவர்கள் ராகேலுடைய பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய பில்காள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

25. The sons of Bilha Rahel's maid: Dan and Nephtali.

26. காத், ஆசேர் என்பவர்கள் லேயாளின் பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்; இவர்களே யாக்கோபுக்குப் பதான் அராமிலே பிறந்த குமாரர்.

26. The sons of Zilpha Lea's maid Gad and Asser. These are the sons which were born him in Mesopotamia.

27. பின்பு, யாக்கோபு அர்பாவின் ஊராகிய மம்ரேக்கு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கினிடத்தில் வந்தான்; அது ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் தங்கியிருந்த எபிரோன் என்னும் ஊர்.

27. Then Jacob went unto Isaac his father to Mamre a principal city, otherwise called Hebron: where Abraham and Isaac sojourned as strangers.

28. ஈசாக்கு விருத்தாப்பியமும் பூரண ஆயுசுமுள்ளவனாகி, நூற்றெண்பது வருஷம் ஜீவித்திருந்து,

28. And the days of Isaac were an hundred and eighty years:

29. பிராணன்போய் மரித்து, தன் ஜனத்தாரோடே சேர்க்கப்பட்டான். அவன் குமாரராகிய ஏசாவும் யாக்கோபும் அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

29. and then fell he sick and died, and was put unto his people being old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
