1. தேவன் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்து, நீ உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் முகத்திற்கு விலகி ஓடிப்போகிறபோது, உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கு என்றார்.

1. God said to Ya`akov, 'Arise, go up to Beit-El, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esav your brother.'

2. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் வீட்டாரையும் தன்னோடேகூட இருந்த மற்ற அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கிற அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை விலக்கிப்போட்டு, உங்களைச் சுத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களை மாற்றுங்கள்.

2. Then Ya`akov said to his household, and to all who were with him, 'Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.

3. நாம் எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள்; எனக்கு ஆபத்து நேரிட்ட நாளில் என் விண்ணப்பத்துக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்து, நான் நடந்த வழியிலே என்னோடேகூட இருந்த தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்குவேன் என்றான்.

3. Let us arise, and go up to Beit-El. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.'

4. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தங்கள் கையில் இருந்த எல்லா அந்நிய தெய்வங்களையும், தங்கள் காதணிகளையும் யாக்கோபிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்கள்; யாக்கோபு அவைகளைச் சீகேம் ஊர் அருகே இருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழே புதைத்துப்போட்டான்.

4. They gave to Ya`akov all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Ya`akov hid them under the oak which was by Shekhem.

5. பின்பு பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருந்த பட்டணத்தாருக்குத் தேவனாலே பயங்கரம் உண்டானதினால், அவர்கள் யாக்கோபின் குமாரரைப் பின்தொடராதிருந்தார்கள்.

5. They traveled: and a terror of God was on the cities that were round about them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Ya`akov.

6. யாக்கோபும் அவனோடேகூட இருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களும் கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்தேல் என்னும் லூசுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

6. So Ya`akov came to Luz, which is in the land of Kana`an (the same is Beit-El), he and all the people who were with him.

7. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக்கட்டி, தன் சகோதரனுடைய முகத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினபோது, அங்கே தனக்கு தேவன் தரிசனமானபடியால், அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு ஏல்பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

7. He built an altar there, and called the place El-Beit-El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8. ரெபெக்காளின் தாதியாகிய தெபொராள் மரித்து, பெத்தேலுக்குச் சமீபமாயிருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழ் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டாள்; அதற்கு அல்லோன்பாகூத் என்னும் பேர் உண்டாயிற்று.

8. Devorah, Rivka's nurse, died, and she was buried below Beit-El under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon-Bakhut.

9. யாக்கோபு பதான் அராமிலிருந்து வந்தபின்பு தேவன் அவனுக்கு மறுபடியும் தரிசனமாகி, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து:

9. God appeared to Ya`akov again, when he came from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.

10. இப்பொழுது உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு, இனி உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு என்னப்படாமல், இஸ்ரவேல் என்று உனக்குப் பேர் வழங்கும் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் என்று பேரிட்டார்.

10. God said to him, 'Your name is Ya`akov. Your name shall not be Ya`akov any more, but your name will be Yisra'el.' He named him Yisra'el.

11. பின்னும் தேவன் அவனை நோக்கி: நான் சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன், நீ பலுகிப் பெருகுவாயாக; ஒரு ஜாதியும் பற்பல ஜாதிகளின் கூட்டங்களும் உன்னிலிருந்து உண்டாகும்; ராஜாக்களும் உன் சந்ததியில் பிறப்பார்கள்.

11. God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your loins.

12. நான் ஆபிரகாமுக்கும் ஈசாக்குக்கும் கொடுத்த தேசத்தை உனக்குக் கொடுப்பேன்; உனக்குப்பின் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் இந்த தேசத்தைக் கொடுப்பேன் என்று சொல்லி,

12. The land which I gave to Avraham and Yitzchak, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land.'

13. தேவன் அவனோடே பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து அவனைவிட்டு எழுந்தருளிப்போனார்.

13. God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

14. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன்னோடே அவர் பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலே ஒரு கற்றூணை நிறுத்தி, அதின்மேல் பானபலியை ஊற்றி, எண்ணையையும் வார்த்தான்.

14. Ya`akov set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink-offering on it, and poured oil on it.

15. தேவன் தன்னோடே பேசின அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு யாக்கோபு பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

15. Ya`akov called the name of the place where God spoke with him 'Beit-El.'

16. பின்பு, பெத்தேலை விட்டுப் பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள். எப்பிராத்தாவுக்கு வர இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் தூரமிருக்கும்போது, ராகேல் பிள்ளைபெற்றாள்; பிரசவத்தில் அவளுக்குக் கடும்வேதனை உண்டாயிற்று.

16. They traveled from Beit-El. There was still some distance to come to Efrat, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.

17. பிரசவிக்கும்போது, அவளுக்குக் கடும் வேதனையாயிருக்கையில், மருத்துவச்சி அவளைப் பார்த்து: பயப்படாதே, இந்த முறையும் புத்திரனைப் பெறுவாய் என்றாள்.

17. It happened that, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, 'Don't be afraid, for now you will have another son.'

18. மரணகாலத்தில் அவள் ஆத்துமா பிரியும்போது, அவள் அவனுக்கு பெனொனி என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் தகப்பனோ, அவனுக்கு பென்யமீன் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

18. It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni, but his father named him Binyamin.

19. ராகேல் மரித்து, பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம் பண்ணப்பட்டாள்.

19. Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Efrat (the same is Beit-Lechem).

20. அவள் கல்லறையின்மேல் யாக்கோபு ஒரு தூணை நிறுத்தினான்; அதுவே இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற ராகேலுடைய கல்லறையின் தூண்.

20. Ya`akov set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.

21. இஸ்ரவேல் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, ஏதேர் என்கிற கோபுரத்திற்கு அப்புறத்தில் கூடாரம் போட்டான்.

21. Yisra'el traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of `Eder.

22. இஸ்ரவேல் அந்தத் தேசத்தில் தங்கிக் குடியிருக்கும்போது, ரூபன் போய், தன் தகப்பனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய பில்காளோடே சயனித்தான்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் கேள்விப்பட்டான்.

22. It happened, while Yisra'el lived in that land, that Re'uven went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Yisra'el heard of it. Now the sons of Ya`akov were twelve.

23. யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் பன்னிரண்டு பேர். யாக்கோபின் மூத்தமகனாகிய ரூபன், சிமியோன், லேவி, யூதா, இசக்கார், செபுலோன் என்பவர்கள் லேயாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

23. The sons of Le'ah: Re'uven (Ya`akov's firstborn), Shim`on, Levi, Yehudah, Yissakhar, and Zevulun.

24. யோசேப்பு, பென்யமீன் என்பவர்கள் ராகேல் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

24. The sons of Rachel: Yosef and Binyamin.

25. தாண், நப்தலி என்பவர்கள் ராகேலுடைய பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய பில்காள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

25. The sons of Bilhah (Rachel's handmaid): Dan and Naftali.

26. காத், ஆசேர் என்பவர்கள் லேயாளின் பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்; இவர்களே யாக்கோபுக்குப் பதான் அராமிலே பிறந்த குமாரர்.

26. The sons of Zilpah (Le'ah's handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Ya`akov, who were born to him in Paddan-Aram.

27. பின்பு, யாக்கோபு அர்பாவின் ஊராகிய மம்ரேக்கு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கினிடத்தில் வந்தான்; அது ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் தங்கியிருந்த எபிரோன் என்னும் ஊர்.

27. Ya`akov came to Yitzchak his father, to Mamre, to Kiryat-Arba (the same is Hevron), where Avraham and Yitzchak lived as foreigners.

28. ஈசாக்கு விருத்தாப்பியமும் பூரண ஆயுசுமுள்ளவனாகி, நூற்றெண்பது வருஷம் ஜீவித்திருந்து,

28. The days of Yitzchak were one hundred eighty years.

29. பிராணன்போய் மரித்து, தன் ஜனத்தாரோடே சேர்க்கப்பட்டான். அவன் குமாரராகிய ஏசாவும் யாக்கோபும் அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

29. Yitzchak gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esav and Ya`akov, his sons, buried him.
