1. பெலிஸ்தர் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அதை எபெனேசரிலிருந்து அஸ்தோத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.

1. And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

2. பெலிஸ்தர் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியைப் பிடித்து, தாகோனின் கோவிலிலே கொண்டுவந்து, தாகோனண்டையிலே வைத்தார்கள்.

2. And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon, and set it near Dagon.

3. அஸ்தோத் ஊரார் மறுநாள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து வந்தபோது, இதோ, தாகோன் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாகத் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்துகிடந்தது; அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தாகோனை எடுத்து, அதை அதின் ஸ்தானத்திலே திரும்பவும் நிறுத்தினார்கள்.

3. And the men of Ashdod rose early on the next day. And, behold! Dagon had fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah! And they took Dagon and put it back in its place.

4. அவர்கள் மறுநாள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து வந்தபோது, இதோ, தாகோன் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாகத் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து கிடந்ததுமல்லாமல், தாகோனின் தலையும் அதின் இரண்டு கைகளும் வாசற்படியின்மேல் உடைபட்டுக் கிடந்தது; தாகோனுக்கு உடல்மாத்திரம் மீதியாயிருந்தது.

4. And they rose early in the morning on the next day; and, behold! Dagon had fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands, were cut off at the threshold. Only the flat part had been left to him.

5. ஆதலால் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் தாகோனின் பூஜாசாரிகளும் தாகோனின் கோவிலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கிற யாவரும் அஸ்தோத்திலிருக்கிற தாகோனுடைய வாசற்படியை மிதிக்கிறதில்லை.

5. On account of this the priests of Dagon, and all those coming into the house of Dagon, do not step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod until this day.

6. அஸ்தோத் ஊராரைப் பாழாக்கும்படிக்கு கர்த்தருடைய கை அவர்கள்மேல் பாரமாயிருந்தது; அவர் அஸ்தோத்தின் ஜனங்களையும், அதின் எல்லைகளுக்குள் இருக்கிறவர்களையும் மூலவியாதியினால் வாதித்தார்.

6. And the hand of Jehovah was heavy on the men of Ashdod. And He wasted them, and struck them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and its borders.

7. இப்படி நடந்ததை அஸ்தோத்தின் ஜனங்கள் கண்டபோது: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனுடைய கை நமதுமேலும், நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய தாகோனின்மேலும் கடினமாயிருக்கிறபடியால், அவருடைய பெட்டி நம்மிடத்தில் இருக்கலாகாது என்று சொல்லி;

7. And the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, and said, The ark of God of Israel shall not remain with us, for His hand has been hard on us, and on our god Dagon.

8. பெலிஸ்தரின் அதிபதிகளையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து, தங்களண்டையிலே கூடிவரச் செய்து: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை நாம் என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர்கள்: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை காத் பட்டணமட்டும் எடுத்துச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு போகவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்; அப்படியே இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை எடுத்துச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு போனார்கள்.

8. And they sent and gathered all the rulers of the Philistines to them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said, Let the ark of the God of Israel go around to Gath. And they brought around the ark of the God of Israel.

9. அதை எடுத்துச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு போனபின்பு, கர்த்தருடைய கை அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின்மேல் மகா உக்கிரமாக இறங்கிற்று; அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் மனுஷருக்குள், சிறியவர் துவக்கிப் பெரியவர்மட்டும், மூலவியாதியை உண்டாக்கி, அவர்களை வாதித்தார்.

9. And it happened after they had brought it around, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great destruction. And He struck the men of the city, from the least to the greatest; and hemorrhoids broke forth in them.

10. அதினால் அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை எக்ரோனுக்கு அனுப்பினார்கள்; தேவனுடைய பெட்டி எக்ரோனுக்கு வருகிறபோது, எக்ரோன் ஊரார்: எங்களையும் எங்கள் ஜனங்களையும் கொன்றுபோட, இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை எடுத்து, எங்களண்டைக்குச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள் என்று கூக்குரலிட்டார்கள்.

10. And they sent the ark of God around to Ekron. And it happened as the ark of God came into Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought around the ark of the God of Israel to me to cause me and my people to die.

11. அவர்கள் பெலிஸ்தரின் அதிபதிகளையெல்லாம் கூடிவரும்படி அழைத்து: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவன் எங்களையும் எங்கள் ஜனங்களையும் கொன்றுபோடாதபடிக்கு, அவருடைய பெட்டியை அதின் ஸ்தானத்திற்குத் திரும்ப அனுப்பிவிடுங்கள் என்றார்கள்; அந்தப் பட்டணமெங்கும் சாவு மும்முரமாயிருந்தது; தேவனுடைய கை அங்கே மகா பாரமாயிருந்தது.

11. And they sent and gathered all the rulers of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its place, and it may not cause me and my people to die. For there had been a great destruction throughout all the city. The hand of God had been very heavy there.

12. செத்துப்போகாதிருந்தவர்கள் மூலவியாதியினால் வாதிக்கப்பட்டதினால், அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் கூக்குரல் வானபரியந்தம் எழும்பிற்று.

12. And the men who had not died were stricken with hemorrhoids. And the cry of the city went up to the heavens.
