1. அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீம் மனுஷர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ மீதியானியர்மேல் யுத்தம் பண்ணப்போகிறபோது, எங்களை அழைப்பிக்கவில்லையே, இப்படி நீ எங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்ன என்று, அவனோடே பலத்த வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்.

1. And the men of Ephraim said vnto him: Why hast thou serued vs thus, that thou calledst vs not, when thou wentest to fyght with the Madianites? And they chode with him sharpely.

2. அதற்கு அவன்: நீங்கள் செய்ததற்கு நான் செய்தது எம்மாத்திரம்? அபியேஸ்ரியரின் திராட்சப்பழத்தின் முழு அறுப்பைப்பார்க்கிலும், எப்பிராயீமரின் மீதியான அறுப்பு அதிகம் அல்லவா?

2. And he sayde vnto them: What deede haue I done lyke vnto yours? Is not the gleaning of grapes of Ephraim, better then the vinetage of Abiezer?

3. தேவன் உங்கள் கையிலே மீதியானியரின் அதிபதிகளாகிய ஓரேபையும் சேபையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே; நீங்கள் செய்ததிலும் நான் செய்யக்கூடியது எம்மாத்திரம் என்றான்; இந்த வார்த்தையை அவன் சொன்னபோது, அவன் மேலிருந்த அவர்களுடைய கோபம் ஆறிற்று.

3. God hath delyuered into your handes the lordes of Madian, Oreb and Zeb: And what was I able to do lyke as you haue done? And then their spirites abated from of him, when he had sayde that.

4. கிதியோன் யோர்தானுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவனும் அவனோடிருந்த முந்நூறுபேரும் அதைக் கடந்துபோய், விடாய்த்திருந்தும் (சத்துருவை) பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.

4. And Gedeon came to Iordane to passe ouer, he & the three hundred men that were with him weery, and yet folowed the chase.

5. அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரை நோக்கி: என்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்திற்குச் சில அப்பங்களைக் கொடுங்கள்; அவர்கள் விடாய்த்திருக்கிறார்கள், நான் மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்களாகிய சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் பின்தொடருகிறேன் என்றான்.

5. And he sayd vnto ye men of Sucoth: Geue I pray you, takes of bread vnto ye people that folow me, for they be fayntie, that I may folowe after Zebah, and Zalmana, kynges of Madian.

6. அதற்குச் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்கள்: உன் சேனைக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்றார்கள்.

6. And the lordes of Sucoth sayde: Are the handes of Zebah and Zalmana now in thyne handes, that we should geue bread vnto thyne armie?

7. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: கர்த்தர் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, உங்கள் மாம்சத்தை வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளாலும் நெரிஞ்சில்களாலும் கிழித்துவிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி,

7. Gedeon sayde: Therfore when the Lord hath deliuered Zebah and Zalmana into mine hande, I will teare the fleshe of you with the thornes of the wildernes, and with bryers.

8. அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப் போய், அவ்வூராரிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷர் பிரதியுத்தரமாகச் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

8. And he went vp thence to Phanuel, & spake vnto them lykewyse: And ye men of Phanuel aunswered him, as did the men of Sucoth.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன், பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: நான் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரும்போது, இந்தக் கோபுரத்தை இடித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றான்.

9. And he sayd also vnto the men of Phanuel: When I come agayne in peace, I will breake downe this towre.

10. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடேகூட அவர்களுடைய சேனைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய பதினையாயிரம்பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க லட்சத்து இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்கத்தியாரின் சகல சேனையிலும் இவர்கள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருந்தார்கள்.

10. Zebah & Zalmana were in Carcor, and their hoastes with them, vpon a fifteene thousande men, which were all that were left of all the hoastes of them of the east: For there was slaine an hundred and twentie thousande men that drewe swordes.

11. கிதியோன் கூடாரங்களிலே குடியிருக்கிறவர்கள் வழியாய் நோபாகுக்கும், யொகிபெயாவுக்கும் கிழக்கே போய், அந்தச் சேனை பயமில்லை என்றிருந்தபோது, அதை முறிய அடித்தான்.

11. And Gedeon went thorowe them that dwelt in tabernacles on the east syde of Nobah and Iegbahah, and smote the hoaste: for the hoaste dyd cast no perylles.

12. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவனோ அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, சேபா சல்முனா என்னும் மீதியானியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் பிடித்து, சேனை முழுவதையும் கலங்கடித்தான்.

12. And whan Zebah and Zalmana fled, he folowed after them, and toke ye two kynges of Madian, Zebah and Zalmana, and discomfited all the hoaste.

13. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, சூரியன் உதிக்கும் முன்னே திரும்பிவந்தபோது,

13. And Gedeon the sonne of Ioas, returned from battel afore the sunne was vp,

14. சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பருமாகிய எழுபத்தேழு மனுஷரின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

14. And caught a ladde of the men of Sucoth, & enquired of him: And he wrote him of the lordes and elders of Sucoth threescore and seuenteene men.

15. அவன் சுக்கோத்து ஊராரிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, விடாய்த்திருக்கிற உன் மனுஷருக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்று நீங்கள் என்னை நிந்தித்துச் சொன்ன சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் இங்கே இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

15. And he came vnto the men of Sucoth, and sayd: Beholde Zebah and Zalmana, with which ye dyd cast me in the teeth, saying: Are the handes of Zebah and Zalmana alredy in thyne hande, that we should geue bread vnto thy fayntie men?

16. பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளையும் நெரிஞ்சில்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷருக்குப் புத்திவரப்பண்ணி,

16. And he toke the elders of the citie, and thornes of the wildernesse, and bryers, and dyd teare the men of Sucoth with them.

17. பெனூவேலின் கோபுரத்தை இடித்து, அவ்வூர் மனுஷரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

17. And he brake downe the towre of Phanuel, & slue the men of the citie.

18. பின்பு அவன் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் தாபோரிலே கொன்றுபோட்ட அந்த மனுஷர் எப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நீர் எப்படிப்பட்டவரோ அவர்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களே; ஒவ்வொருவனும் பார்வைக்கு ராஜகுமாரனைப்போலிருந்தான் என்றார்கள்.

18. And then sayde he vnto Zebah and Zalmana: What maner of men were they whom ye slue at Thabor? And they aunswered: The lykenesse of thee and them is al one, eue after the fashion of the children of a kyng.

19. அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் என் சகோதரரும் என் தாயின் பிள்ளைகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை உயிரோடே வைத்திருந்தீர்களானால். உங்களைக் கொல்லாதிருப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

19. And he sayd, They were my brethren, euen my mothers children: As truly as the Lord liueth, if ye had saued their lyues, I would not slay you.

20. தன் மூத்தகுமாரனாகிய யெத்தேரை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, இவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடு என்றான்; அந்த வாலிபன் இளைஞனானபடியால் பயந்து தன் பட்டயத்தை உருவாதிருந்தான்.

20. And he sayde vnto Iether his eldest sonne, Up and slay them. But the ladde drue not his sworde: for he feared, because he was yet young.

21. அப்பொழுது சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும்: நீரே எழுந்து எங்கள்மேல் விழும்; மனுஷன் எப்படியோ அப்படியே அவன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்றார்கள்; கிதியோன் எழுந்து, சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளில் இருந்த சாந்துக்காறைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

21. Then Zebah and Zalmana sayde: Ryse thou, and fall vpon vs: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gedeon arose, and slue Zebah and Zalmana, and toke away the ornamentes that were on their camels neckes.

22. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை மீதியானியர் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிட்டபடியினால் நீரும் உம்முடைய குமாரனும், உம்முடைய குமாரனின் குமாரனும், எங்களை ஆளக்கடவீர்கள் என்றார்கள்.

22. Then the men of Israel sayde vnto Gedeon: Raigne thou ouer vs, both thou, thy sonne, and thy sonnes sonne, for thou hast deliuered vs out of ye hand of Madian.

23. அதற்குக் கிதியோன்: நான் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டேன்; என் குமாரனும் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டான்; கர்த்தரே உங்களை ஆளுவாராக என்றான்.

23. And Gedeon sayd vnto them: I wyll not raigne ouer you, neither shall my childe raigne ouer you: but the Lorde shall raigne ouer you.

24. பின்பு கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் ஒரு காரியத்தைக் கேட்கிறேன்; நீங்கள் அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் இஸ்மவேலராயிருந்தபடியினால் அவர்களிடத்தில் பொன்கடுக்கன்கள் இருந்தது.

24. And agayne Gedeon said vnto them: I would desire a request of you, euen that you would geue me euery man the earinges of his pray. For they had golden earinges, because they were Israelites.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர்: சந்தோஷமாய்க் கொடுப்போம் என்று சொல்லி, ஒரு வஸ்திரத்தை விரித்து, அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

25. And they aunswered: We will gyue them. And they spread a mantell, and dyd cast therin euery man the earynges of his pray.

26. பிறைச்சிந்தாக்குகளும், ஆரங்களும், மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்கள் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த இரத்தாம்பரங்களும், அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளிலிருந்த சரப்பணிகளும் அல்லாமல், அவன் கேட்டு வாங்கின பொன்கடுக்கன்களின் நிறை ஆயிரத்து எழுநூறு பொன் சேக்கலின் நிறையாயிருந்தது.

26. And the wayght of ye golden earinges that he required, was a thousand and seuen hundred sicles of golde, besyde chaynes and iewelles, and purple rayment that was on the kynges of Madian, and besyde the chaynes that were about their camels neckes.

27. அதினால் கிதியோன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன் ஊரான ஒப்ராவிலே வைத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் அதைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போனார்கள்; அது கிதியோனுக்கும் அவன் வீட்டாருக்கும் கண்ணியாயிற்று.

27. And Gedeon made an Ephod therof, and put it in his citie Ephrah: And all Israel went a whoryng after it in the same place, which thing became a ruyne vnto Gedeon and to his house.

28. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மீதியானியர் திரும்ப தலையெடுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; தேசமானது கிதியோனின் நாட்களில் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

28. Thus was Madian brought lowe before the children of Israel, so that they lyft vp their heades no more: And the countrey was in quietnes fourtie yeres in the dayes of Gedeon.

29. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய யெருபாகால் போய், தன் வீட்டிலே வாசமாயிருந்தான்.

29. And Ierobaal ye sonne of Ioas, went and dwelt in his owne house.

30. கிதியோனுக்கு அநேகம் ஸ்திரீகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவனுடைய கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பான குமாரர் எழுபதுபேர்.

30. And Gedeon had threescore and ten sonnes of his body begotten: for he had many wyues.

31. சீகேமிலிருந்த அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு அபிமெலேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

31. And his cocubine that was in Sichem bare him a sonne also, whose name he called Abimelech.

32. பின்பு யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் நல்ல விருத்தாப்பியத்திலே மரித்து, ஒப்ராவிலே தன் தகப்பனாகிய யோவாஸ் என்னும் அபியேஸ்ரியனுடைய கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

32. And Gedeon the sonne of Ioas dyed in a good age, and was buryed in the sepulchre of Ioas his father, euen in Ephrah, that parteyned vnto the father of the Esrites.

33. கிதியோன் மரித்தபின் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் திரும்பவும் பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போய், பாகால்பேரீத்தைத் தங்களுக்கு தேவனாக வைத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

33. But assoone as Gedeon was dead, the children of Israel turned away, & went a whoryng after Baalim, and made a couenaunt with Baal to be their God.

34. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் சத்துருக்களின் கையினின்றும் தங்களை இரட்சித்த தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினையாமலும்,

34. And the children of Israel thought not on the Lorde their God, which had deliuered them out of the handes of all their enemies on euery syde:

35. கிதியோன் என்னும் யெருபாகால் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த சகல நன்மைக்குத்தக்க தயவை அவன் வீட்டாருக்குப் பாராட்டாமலும் போனார்கள்.

35. Neither shewed they mercy on the house of Ierobaal [otherwyse called] Gedeon, according to all the goodnes which he had shewed vnto Israel.
